“Drew's Brother” (November 19, 1997) We finally did it! We not only found the perfect guest for this episode — writer, performer and UCB alum Joan Ford — but we also got the chance to tell the world that The Drew Carey Show deserves to live it. It's not only the most successful Friends clone but also the only one that sustained a whole series about working class young people. And in its third season, it introduced Drew's brother Steve (John Caroll Lynch) who is a cross-dresser who might just be a transwoman. What's more, the show pairs Steve off with Mimi Bobeck (Kathy Kinney), who is dragtastic and deserving of queer icon status in her own right. Follow: GEE on Facebook • GEE's Facebook Group • GEE on Twitter • GEE on Instagram • Drew on Twitter • Glen on Twitter Listen: Apple Podcasts • Spotify • Google Podcasts • Himalaya • TuneIn And yes, we do have an official website! We even have episode transcripts courtesy of Sarah Neal. Our logo was designed by Rob Wilson. This episode's art was designed by Ian O'Phelan. This is a TableCakes podcast.

Writer and performer Joan Ford returns to the podcast to discuss Mama Needs a Boo-vie's final spooky October selection, Paul Schrader's CAT PEOPLE (1982) starring Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell and John Heard. This loose remake of Jacques Tourneur's 1942 supernatural classic follows Irina (Kinski) traveling to New Orleans to meet her brother, Paul (McDowell). As incestuous undertones rage between the two, Irina is drawn into an investigation of serial murders, befriending a hotshot zoologist (Heard). This probe eventually leads to a shocking discovery about Irina's family lineage. Upon release, CAT PEOPLE received decent reviews, but proved a box office failure with only later reappraisals fully appreciating its sexy atmosphere and moody Giorgio Moroder synth score. Join us as the claws come out for this discussion of CAT PEOPLE, along with diversions into Five Nights at Freddy's, Doctor Detroit, Body Heat, Deep Blue Sea, Swiss Family Robinson, Mark Wahlberg, Las Vegas zoos, Scorsese on Letterboxd, and much, much more!
Writer and animation connoisseur Joan Ford, (DC Super Hero Girls, Tiny Toons Looniversity), joins to discuss Pixar's new release, LIGHTYEAR starring Chris Evans, Keke Palmer, and Peter Sohn. The Angus MacLane-directed animated science fiction film is a (sort of) prequel to the Toy Story franchise, presented as a 1995 adventure movie that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy. But does the movie-within-a-movie live up to the saga's gold standard? We get to the bottom of this question, stopping along the way for some trusty MNAM diversions into Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Child's Play 3, Ain't It Cool News, the lost roles of Tom Cruise, real life Tim Allen encounters, and of course, the AMC Stubs A-List. So buckle up, Star Command rookies, for a podcast that goes to infinity... and beyond!

Kicking off 31 Days To Scare Dave, Mark David Christenson and Connie Shin are joined with "friend of the podcast" Joan Ford to watch 2017's IT at Arclight Hollywood and discuss the elements that make this film more of a good kids adventure movie with a great monster than a straight forward horror film.IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1396484/?ref_=nv_sr_1Directed by: Andy MuschiettiWritten by: Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga, and Gary DaubermanStarring: Bill Skarsgård as PennywiseMovie Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAUTdjf9rkoWikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_(2017_film)Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/it_2017Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Blu-ray-DVD-Digital-Combo-Pack/dp/B074ZMJZ6P/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1507056553&sr=8-3&keywords=It+2017Support all the Artists at Boardwalk Audio: http://www.amazon.com/?tag=iwillwatchanythingonce-20If you are enjoying I Will Watch Anything Once, please subscribe, rate and review on iTunes, like it on Facebook and follow IWWAO on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr. Joan Ford is super smart and thoughtful. That's what I liked the most about this conversation. We talked about the trap that many writers fall in to - especially when writing about something that bothers them or makes them angry. Joan spoke to the idea of writing characters that you don't like in real life and broke down a challenge she gave herself which was to find the humanity in them and make them relatable and more accessible.Ultimately, she was trying to find a way to make assholes funny. Joan is the coach of Bombardier at UCB and was the coach of Sugar. She was also a writer for nephew. Now she writes for Nerdist and is likes the challenge of remaining positive. Apparently all the positive video commenters only go to Nerdist. This week we read a sketch by Calder Holbrook (@CalderHolbrook) You can send in your sketches to foowpod@gmail.com and have our guests critique them on the air. You can get tickets to Bombardier here: https://sunset.ucbtheatre.com/performance/54087 You can buy Joan's book here: https://www.amazon.com/Killing-Action-Girls-Saving-Looking/dp/194209910X Follow her on Twitter - @JoanHaleyFord You can follow us on Twitter - @Foowpod @JeremiahBurton1 @imtweedy See you next week. WHERE. IS. SKEETER!? After watching five episodes, Matt Manser and Eileen Mary O'Connell STILL have no idea where Scooter's twin sister Skeeter is, and why she's never seen as an adult in any of the other Muppet movies or TV shows. And thus the journey continues! This week, Matt and Eileen are joined by Joan Ford, author of "Killing It" and writer for Nerdist.com. But could the "It" that's been killed be Skeeter!? The three of them watched episode 6 of 'Muppet Babies' titled "The Case of the Missing Chicken." Along the way they discussed Muppet reproduction, the logistics of Gonzo's nose, and maybe, JUST MAYBE, where Skeeter could be. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

To get in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit, Joey, Nick and Stephen sit down to break apart the complete lack of logic in the WWE Studios-produced horror movie “Leprechaun: Origins” with the help of Joan Ford (UCB Theatre, Cracked, “Killing It: The Action Girl's Guide to Saving the World”). Everyone spends most of the time wondering who the characters are, where the hell Hornswoggle is and comparing the new boring leprechaun to Warwick Davis’s original, more mischievous version. Plus, new character Nas-feratu shows up, Larry the Cable Guy gets stuck in Stephen’s vents while trying to sell Prilosec OTC, and phony Irish accents abound. Also, Nick reveals that he's never heard of the "pinching" tradition on St. Patrick's Day, a revelation that completely blindsides Stephen. In this very special Christmas miracle episode, Stephen ends up tracking down “Santa’s Slay” writer & director and former Brett Ratner protégé David Steiman (Red Dragon, Rush Hour 2) on Twitter, and swiftly invites him onto the show to a record a follow-up to the last edition of YSLW (featuring now yet AGAIN returning four time guest Joan Ford) to talk all about about the holiday horror cult classic he helped create. David offers up details about his initial pitch, set stories, editing woes, early casting possibilities, how B-Movie legend Roger Corman almost got involved. Plus, how WWE/WCW’s Bill Goldberg came to be cast. And, David answers everyone’s questions from the last episode while also discussing his own relationship with wrestling, and how his Jewish heritage influenced the movie. Then, everyone pitches on-screen deaths for a sequel that they definitely hope happens. Also, Nick and Joey bring up asswiping again. The holidays are just around the corner, and this week the boys welcome back friend and guest Joan Ford (Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre - Los Angeles, Cracked.com, “Killing It: The Action Girl’s Guide to Saving the World”) for a record third time to talk all about the 2005 movie Santa's Slay starring Bill Goldberg! Also, Nick reveals that he's never heard of the "pinching" tradition on St. Patrick's Day, a revelation that completely blindsides Stephen. Plus, everyone talks about the movie's strange relationship with Judaism, as well as the concept of brown toilet paper, wiping, and Joey's new proposed parody "Grandma Got Run Over By a Car". With the 2016 Presidential election/Apocalypse right around the corner, the boys welcome Joan Ford (UCB Theatre, Cracked, “Killing It: The Action Girl's Guide to Saving the World”) back to the show to take a hard, retrospective look at Donald Trump’s “run” in WWE. From giving away millions of dollars and treating women terribly on national TV, to his WrestleMania Hair vs. Hair stipulated match and being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, these events serve as just another strange chapter in the life of a man who could become the leader of the free world. Also, the public finally has their prayers answered and gets to experience four comedians in one room doing Trump impressions all at once. Then, because Nick is in that room, the Denny’s “Hooburrito” naturally comes up while Joey continues to defend his position of “knowing everything about old school hip-hop.” Plus, Stephen fittingly tries to get everyone to love “The Voter App.” For full show notes, including links to watch matches, go to BoardwalkAudio.com/YouShouldLoveWrestling Follow us on Twitter @YSLWpodcast Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/YouShouldLoveWrestling/ Email us at YouShouldLoveWrestling@Gmail.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Honey, I'm home! After several months of seemingly unending travel, I've finally come home to roost. I spent the last week regrouping, reorganizing, and (re)cleaning. It seems like I've picked up quite a bit of stuff in my travels.... In this episode, I review three books--plus the usual (short) Sandy update and listener feedback. Enjoy!
