Authors Between the Covers: What It Takes to Write Your Heart Out
A Note from Hope Katz Gibbs, founder and producer, Inkandescent Radio — Odds are good that you have read Gregory Macguire’s bestseller, “Wicked,” seen the Broadway show (millions around the world have), and/or are anticipating the release of the film version this month. So, it is a great pleasure to share the interview I had the privilege of doing with him for The Costco Connection. Gregory allowed me to record and produce our conversation for our Authors Between the Covers Show on InkandescentRadio and Inkandescent.tv). On our PR & Publishing Co. site, Inkandescent.us, you can also read our Q&A. Stay tuned for the article in the Costco Connection in November. Best of all, you’ll get to see Part One of Wicked in November! Scroll down to learn more about the film! About the movie: Wicked (also known as Wicked: Part One) is an upcoming American musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman. It is the first of a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which was based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel of the same name and characters from L. Frank Baum‘s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, with Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode (in her film debut), Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, and Peter Dinklage in supporting roles. Set in the Land of Oz, largely before Dorothy Gale‘s arrival from Kansas, the plot follows green-skinned Elphaba and her path to ultimately becoming the Wicked Witch of the West, alongside an unlikely friendship and later rivalry with a classmate who later becomes Glinda the Good. Theatrical release in the United States is scheduled for November 22, 2024, with Wicked: Part Two slated for November 26, 2025. Universal Pictures announced the adaptation in 2012 with Marc Platt as a producer. After a long development and multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chu was hired to direct, with Erivo and Grande cast in their respective roles in 2021. Principal photography began in December 2022 in England, paused in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, eventually resuming then concluding in January 2024.

I was a little bit slow off the mark getting my annual Pride Anthems edition out for June this month. None the less, here is the June 2023 edition. This is 27 remixed club anthems starting off with some smooth house remixes and moving towards main club and big room club anthems from the middle through to the end. The set kicks off with Dirty Disco's classic house remix of Candi Staton's "Young Hearts Run Free" and moves into Division 4's funky mix of Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You". Jacked features two mixes here for Divine Inspiration and Chic respectively and DJ KaktuZ turns in a great house mix of "Believe" by Cher. Division 4 features two more mixes for Kylie Minogue and Madonna respectively and the Beachbums do a nice re-edit of one of my favourite songs from last year "Fearless" by Tom Grennan. Jet Boot Jack has been turning out some fantastic house mixes recently and two of his feature here. Shauna Jensen released an uplifting anthem for World Pride in Sydney this year with fantastic vocals. I had to put the Dirty Disco and Debby Holiday collaboration "Find A Way" in this set as it has fast become one of my all time favourite club tracks - period. The messaging is powerful and Debby's vocals have never been more amazing. With it's official release recently, Mark (de Lang) did a remix of his original remix and it is stunning. Toy Armada has been busy with Jace M turning out mixes for Janet Jackson and Kelly Clarkson as well as his original take on the 90's classic Sunchyme. Keala Settle's "This Is Me" is a powerful anthem and Joe Gauthreaux's remix lifts it up even more. I snuck a couple of male vocals in this edition as I didn't do a Mardi Gras Men this year so I had to put Tony Moran's awesome version of "Pride" In The Name Of Love on here as well. The last few tracks are pure pop joy from Demi Lovato and Boyz With Toyz. Vanessa Amorosi's powerhouse "Absolutely Everybody" closes out this massive edition of Pride Anthems for June 2023. Are we still talking about Brexit? You bet your badgers, we are, because it's still causing – euphemism warning – mischief all over the political, trade and, well, everything shop. So Mick got on the blower with Naomi Smith, CEO of Best For Britain and co-host of the Oh God, What Now? podcast to talk Brexit fallout, the political upshot of the latest Tory “budget”, and why Best For Britain is campaigning for a general election now. Yes please and thank you.Hannah chats to Keala Settle, actor, star of The Greatest Showman and the woman behind that huge singing voice, about why she was desperate to do a pantomime. So now she's in one*. In Jenny Off The Blocks, Jen's talking fast women and fast cars, and also quite understandably explaining how things in Qatar remain a royal mess of human rights violations. And in Rated or Dated, Mick and Jen are watching 1942's Cat People – a horror movie from the past. Two of their very favourite things. Cats though. In this episode I'm talking to Birgit Livesey, the creator and host of the Living on the B Side podcast, a place to showcase the power of music through people's stories. Birgit has been a music lover all her life and in 2016 took the leap to give her passion a voice in the world. Going from introverted teenager in Switzerland to confident Podcast host currently living in Melbourne/Australia, she wants to share her (and others') journey through life with the help of music. When she isn't on the ‘B Side', she spends time with her hubby and senior cat Richo, enjoying nature and diving into all things personal-development. We talk about being an introvert and what it meant to Birgit growing up and how that has changed as she has learned more about introversion and herself. As Birgit says, it's not about being antisocial or always being in a corner with a book. It's about managing energy and generally introverts recharge alone whilst extroverts recharge in the company of others. Like most traits, introversion and extroversion is on a scale and where we are on that scale can vary. You may hear people who are midway on the scale being referred to as ambiverts. Understanding her introvert tendencies helped Birgit really step into the truest version of herself and those of you who are regular listeners will know that that is something I am very passionate about. Thank you to Birgit for this fabulous conversation. Let me know what you enjoyed most about it. On today's episode of Who's There, our weekly call-in show, we go long on the Met Gala. Who were those men who looked vaguely familiar? Who was the guy who wasn't Jared Leto? How did Kim Kardashian get that Themmy dress? Why did Emma Chamberlain have the most viral moment of the night? You had so many questions, and we hope to have provided plenty of answers. But it's not all about the first Monday in May! We also discuss Keala Settle's new accent, confirm (sort of) Chrishell's new relationship, compare Jodie Turner-Smith to Kodi Smit-McPhee, and declare whether or not Rich Uncle Pennybags is a Who or a Them. This week on the Richard Crouse Show we meet Keala Settle. If you were a fan of the musical The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman, and who wasn't?... then you'll know her as the powerhouse voice behind the Academy Award nominated song This is Me. Today, we'll talk about why she had such a difficult time singing that song, a brain disease she says has changed her life and we'll find out all about her new project, Murder in Provence, a new detective series now available on BritBox that investigates the murders, mysteries, and dark underbelly of the idyllic area in the south of France. Then we meet actor, woodworker and author Nick Offerman. If you have been watching “Pam & Tommy” you know my next guest as Uncle Miltie, porn producer and all-round scumbag. Or maybe you know his role in “The Founder,” in which he portrays Richard McDonald, one of the brothers who developed the fast-food chain McDonald's. You absolutely know him as Ron Swanson, the mustachioed, libertarian guy in the corner office on the hit sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” This weekend he'll co-host the “37th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards” with Megan Mullally, who also happens to be his wife.

*Keala Settle voice* I didn't plan it, but the light turned red and I ra----- On this episode of To a T, I start off by stating I have absolutely no idea and no set plan what I'm going to talk about, that normally I like to have some concrete idea and agenda but this time I don't which is all parts exciting/exhilarating/and terrifying as it is easy to feed into various doubts and other similar feelings regarding talking without an idea and wanting to fulfill the making of a "good podcast episode". As I began to talk, things started to come out and flow and I ended up with an assembled mostly structured episode!! Yay for growth and for a whole gamut of topics like: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood/Tom Hanks, various theatre moments at the Oscars, Bong Joon Ho, Billie Eilish and Finneas (their Oscar performance and overall genius) , the Mrs. Doubtfire social media team , my passion for theatre social media and wanting to work within it, and Laura Dern. —————————————————————————----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hosted and edited by: Theresa Bravo * **specific episodes co-edited with Marina Lindland
