Activist Rev. Irene Monroe talks with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about appearing in our issue driven non-partisan VOTE PSA Campaign we've launched on social media and beyond to get the VOTE OUT. As early voting has begun in states across the country OUTTAKE MEDIA™ has spearheaded this timely and compelling VOTE PSA Campaign to bring our LGBTQ community and marginalized grassroots groups together about the importance of voting. Not only will this campaign get people to vote it will also address our issues. Whether you're Christian, Muslim, Catholic, Jewish, Indigenous or LGBTQ we need to come together now or possibly lose our rights. In our VOTE PSA Rev. Monroe addresses these issues including women's rights and the rise of hate crimes as we head into a presidential election questioning our Democracy. The campaign is directed by C. Fitz (Queen Sugar, One Perfect Shot), West Coast producer Lissa Forehan (More Beautiful for Having Been Broken) and performing the closing tagline song “Vote For A Working America” is Broadway/Cabaret Diva Ann Hampton Callaway. Produced in the historic Calderwood Studio at WGBH in Boston we want to thank our GBH team including Terry Quinn Director of Studio Operations, Phil Reilly Set Design and Lighting Director, Howard Powell Cinematographer, Beth Godlin Lillis Post Production Manager, Editor Deb Holland and Juan José Cadena Duenas Studio Operations Manager. This is a full circle experience for Executive Producer Charlotte Robinson who began her stellar career at WGBH as assistant to Paula Apsell, Senior Executive Producer Emerita NOVA at GBH. We talked to Rev. Irene Monroe about the significance of this VOTE PSA Campaign and her spin on our LGBTQ issues. Rev. Irene Monroe graduated from Wellesley College and Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University and served as a pastor at an African-American church in New Jersey before receiving her doctorate at Harvard Divinity School as a Ford Fellow. She was instrumental in Union United Methodist Church a predominately African American church in Boston's South End becoming a Reconciling Congregation first in New England. Monroe's syndicated religion columns appear in Bay Windows, Cambridge Chronicle, Dig Boston, Curve and in several cities across the country and in the UK and Canada. Monroe is the Boston voice for Detour's African American Heritage Trail and History UnErased. Monroe is a founder and now member emeritus of several national LGBTQ Black and religious organizations and currently can be heard on the podcast and standing Boston Public Radio segment “All Rev'd Up” on WGBH-FM. Milton Riess joins Tim to talk about the recent Alec Baldwin shooting and what it means to safety on the Hollywood set going forward, along with standard safety protocols for filmmakers. Milton is a writer, filmmaker and a college professor who has worked on nearly 300 film and television productions over 35-plus years. Milton talks about working conditions and safety on the set of Hollywood film productions. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/Hollywood_Safety_auphonic.mp3 By now, you may have heard of the tragic shooting on the movie set where actor Alec Baldwin shot and killed the cinematographer of the movie he was making. The movie was called, “Rust,” and not only did Baldwin shoot the cinematographer, but the same bullet wounded the film's director. Here's a summary of what we know happened on that day in October. Baldwin was on the movie set in a make-shift church, rehearsing a movement where he pulls his gun and shoots in the same direction as the camera. He was rehearsing his moves for an upcoming scene. For background, six crew members objected to working conditions and walked off the set hours before the fatal event. Before that, there had been at least two accidental gun discharges on the set. The gun that Baldwin used, a real Colt 45, was handed to him by the film's assistant director. He had taken the gun off of a cart, where it was placed by the movie's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. When the assistant director gave the gun to Baldwin, it's said he told the actor the gun was “cold,” which means safe to use with no live ammunition. Other reports have revealed that certain safety protocols were ignored. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said that 500 rounds of ammunition, which included a mix of blanks, dummy rounds, and possibly live rounds were mixed together. Veteran film armorers who commented on the shooting in various news reports have said that it's widely understood that there should not be live rounds anywhere near a movie set. Some said it's not acceptable to leave a gun on a cart or anywhere unattended during filming. Investigations are now under way to determine what went wrong, who is responsible, and perhaps how the film industry can learn and change from this for the future. This time we talk to Bernie Davis, the veteran television lighting director, about a subject increasingly apposite to our own work; adapting stage lighting for television and online broadcast. Bernie is responsible for numerous NT Live and Royal Opera House broadcasts, alongside his work on countless television productions (including a fair number of Royal Weddings), and we discuss the difference between the camera and the eye, how we should now be considering the audience at home alongside the punters in the stalls, and how advances in technology have provided us with a multitude of ways to get it all wrong...

Multitalented and multi-genre, Hillary Knox has found himself involved in fascinating projects throughout his career. Growing up in Nashville, he thought he would be a musician – but he soon discovered that the lighting department was where he fit. He cut his teeth working at Opryland before attending Carnegie Mellon University. During his last semester, he interned with the great design team of Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, and he’s been on the move ever since.Hillary was an early adopter and user of the Wholehog II, and that formed the base he built his career on. After a stint at The Obie Company, he made his Broadway debut programming lighting for LD Nigel Levings on Baz Lurhman’s 2002 revival of La Boheme. He was then tapped to program media and projections on Wicked for projection designer Elaine J. McCarthy, an ambitious project in every way.Today, you’ll find him programming lighting on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, part of a team that includes lighting designer/lighting director Michael Scricca and programmer Constantine Leonardos. Hillary told us how the show worked and what typical daily operations before mid-March, as well as how studio operations have had to adjust to our current situation, from COVID-19 testing twice week to fully socially distanced positions in the studio. Thanks for listening!

Craig grew up in Brooklyn, NY and literally fell into the business when a friend of a friend said someone needed a few hands to help out. Shortly after, he found himself learning under one of the forefathers of rock and roll lighting in this country, the great (and sadly, late) Bob See. Since that time, Craig has really made a name in TV, specifically "contest shows" such as American Idol and AGT, and more recently, the resurgence of game shows.
