Decoding the behaviors of men who might seem to avoid commitment, Lisa clarifies that not all men who appear avoidant are averse to intimacy. With personal anecdotes and two decades of expertise, she delves into the diverse motivations that steer men away from long-term attachments—be it the pursuit of a career, valuing their freedom, or complex family dynamics rooted in their childhood.Lisa discusses why some men maintain a push-pull dynamic, toggling between attraction and the desire for space, and how their partners can take this behavior the wrong way. she also sheds light on the male need for respect and autonomy. This episode offers actionable steps for women seeking to get closer to understanding the men in their lives. Lisa serves as a beacon of hope, asserting that selecting a compatible partner isn't a fantasy. It is a realistic goal for any woman ready to invest in herself."Oxytocin makes a woman feel bonded to a man, especially when we are having repeated orgasms with him. We start to feel like, “Oh, my God, if I'm feeling this way, he must be feeling this way. If I want to bond with him and I'm feeling emotionally connected to him, he must be feeling the same way because we were both in that bedroom together, and we both had the same experience.” And yet, it's not the same for a man as it is for us. Men can compartmentalize sex. They can get turned on and excited, but those feelings do not necessarily translate into wanting a relationship with a certain woman."— Lisa Shield Want more content like this? I always make long and hard decisions and I do all the analysis and think about. But I guess we just clicked and I made that spontaneous decision at the end of our call, which was supposed to be an hour and a half."— ElaineUnderstanding Grief Cycles in Retirement: "Because I was also having grief cycles from the retirement, which I didn't have the first or second year after I lost my husband."— ElaineReflecting on Past Relationships: "I think the piece that resonates with me the most is the exercise where you go back and do an analysis of your past relationship, from your parents to people you dated, to people you were married. And it's a group, but it's individual. And I was scared to death to do it on my late husband. Right. And I talked to Rebecca, my coach, and, you know, this one worries me, because I try to think of all of the positives, and you have to come up with positives and negatives. I haven't tried to think backwards, well, this could have been better, and that could have been better because he passed and he had a good marriage. Well, I did the exercise, and it shocked me because he had a lot of the traits that all of my past relationships had."— ElaineEmbracing Femininity and Overcoming Attachment Styles: "And being able to step back and let the guy be the guy and be playful, that was hard for me, being playful. But you gave all the tips and the tricks and the samples and the other women that we can talk to all the time, we all kind of come up with little things that we could do."— Elaine Exploring Modern Dating: "Because what I wanted to do was get comfortable with the whole process, tap into my naked data, and be curious and open minded."— Elaine Dating Priorities and Compatibility: "Even if he had the money, he'd be uncomfortable, and so I would use that as my. Instead of just, oh, he doesn't make enough money to do what I want to do because, I don't know, maybe he's got millions, but does he like to travel the way? Does he like to eat out the places I like to eat? Does he like to do the things I like to do?"— ElaineThe Power of Vulnerability in New Relationships: "I went in this with, I'm going to just be open and vulnerable because I don't have time, right? I could be dead tomorrow, so I want to make sure this is the right fit."— Elaine Finding Love in the Digital Age: "And that's what started our connection, because I had also gone through a journey where I lost a bunch of weight, too. So we had that in common."— ElainePersonal Development Courses: "And it makes you feel so good after you take it that you actually start looking forward to it."— ElaineInvesting in Personal Growth: "Who better to invest in is me. What I didn't know is how much value I would get out of it until I started down the process. And to me, I got every dollar out of it and to justify it."— Elaine Want more content like this? What You'll Hear In This Episode:Avoid a checklist-like approach when observing a man's emotional availability. Consider these questions as a loose guideline, rather than a mission to interview or interrogate the man. Men sometimes need a little longer to think and process, so allow time for reflection when asking deeper questions. You can also tell by the quality of the answer if he's processing or deflecting. When you share something vulnerable on your end, does he show empathy, and is he listening, or does he seem to brush off your emotions? Consider using "think" instead of "feel" when discussing emotions with men.Inquire what he learned from past relationships, but respect if he doesn't want to go into full detail.  Shared core values and principles are important for a successful relationship. If money wasn't a factor, what would be his dream job? Explore what he says; it can tell a lot about his values, goals, and dreams. Benjamin shares why a guy would most likely love to be asked about a film that deeply affected him. Continue On Your Journey: Lisa Shield | YouTube | Facebook | Instagram | Book a Call With LisaEmail the podcast at: podcast@lisashield.com Quotes:  "It's better to ask a man what he thinks about something rather than how he feels about it." - Lisa"Especially when you're asking a man deeper questions, you have to pause and give a man an opportunity to think." - Lisa  "We wouldn't have had the marriage we have had for these 20+ years if we hadn't had these difficult relationships. If a woman pays for everything and brags about her big, rich life, he may think he will be living her life. Setting a precedent early on that you are willing to pay for everything will set the tone for the relationship moving forward. Women feel more aligned and comfortable in their own skin when they come from that more feminine part of themselves. What about when a man offers to pay for everything for you? Lisa shares some recent breakthroughs that her clients have had around dating men with different incomes. Why tone is so important to a man, and how to improve yours so you communicate from a true place of connection and power. Continue On Your Journey: Lisa Shield | YouTube | Facebook | Instagram | Book a Call With LisaEmail the podcast at: podcast@lisashield.com Quotes: "As women, we feel more aligned and comfortable in our skin when coming from that more feminine part of ourselves. You have the power to transform your life and write your own love story, and today we'll hear from a special guest who did just that. Lisa Shield is a world-renowned love, dating, and relationship coach whose journey to love didn't start as a fairy tale. It began as an unhappily married fashion photographer who entered the dark room and emerged into a lighted hallway when she realized the stories we tell ourselves dictate who we become. We make it up, all of it. Lisa decided that if she was making it up, she might as well make it good. And that she had the power to change her life, take control of the narrative, and write a new story. She divorced, changed the portrait of a woman who was always sad, left a dysfunctional relationship, and embarked on a path of self-discovery. In two years, she went on 95 dates. On the 96th date, she met her husband, who encouraged her to become one of the first love coaches twenty years ago. Lisa Shield is a love, dating, and heart-opening ninja with two decades of experience. She is a pioneer in the field of love coaching. Lisa earned a master's degree in Spiritual Psychology and is a certified life and relationship coach. She has been a featured expert in The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, LA Times, ABC News, and Cosmopolitan, to name a few. Last year, twelve of Lisa's clients were married, and she officiated four of those weddings. She and her husband, Benjamin, have been together for over 20 years and live with their two dogs in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Today we discuss what men want in a woman, and Lisa shares her wisdom while encouraging us to take power back and take control of our love life. Kerry Brett and Lisa Shield cover a lot of ground and topics, including:Tips around the importance of being present on the first date.Small acts of kindness, caring, and being a great listener can go a long way on the date.Getting emotionally naked is the most challenging part, but if you let your guard down will gain an extra point on the date.Look for your final five. Throw away the list that everyone has and create a relationship inventory that will lead you to your final five. And remember, he doesn't have the final five; you can't date him.Men want to be hunters, and if we have a checklist and put them in a box, men are very sensitive to a woman who want to take away their freedom and clip their wings. We must move away from looks; are we choosing someone from our heads or hearts? There is a difference between being a strong, successful woman and being competitive.Stop creating rules; every hoop you put up is another restriction on men. Men don't like jumping through hoops. Men want women who make their world bigger because you're in it.No man is going to allow women to put them on a shortlist. You must understand that a man's bandwidth is smaller than a woman's.There is a big difference between genuine emotion and drama. We have to learn how to talk to men without getting passive-aggressive. Welcome to the Tearsheet Podcast. I'm Zack Miller. Today's B2B fintech is all about data. Whether you offer loans, bank accounts, or some other type of financial service, the key is getting businesses to give you their data. That's why we've seen business software platforms offer free versions — they know the value is in the data, not a monthly subscription fee. This is so true in accounting and ERP systems. If a company uses them for payments and sales, ERPs have richer information than any bank could wish they could get their hands on. As they sit at the financial heart of an organization, they're ripe to connect to banking and payment rails, helping to automate and expedite all kinds of financial services. I believe that strongly and that's Lisa Shield's view, too. The founder and CEO of FI Span, Lisa's firm connects banks and businesses through their ERP systems. This isn't Lisa's first rodeo — she founded Hyperwallet, which in 2000 was one of the first companies focused on solving mass payouts. That company is now part of PayPal. Lisa and I discuss the convergence of accounting and banking and why she believes so strongly that ERPs are the banking channel of the future. Lisa Shields is my guest today on the Tearsheet Podcast.

Speaking of Partnership: Personal Stories of the Power and Payoffs of Partnership

Sixteen years ago, when no one would admit to dating online, Lisa Shield posted her first profile. Two years and 100 first dates later she met and married the love of her life. Her success led her to become one of the first dating and relationship coaches in the country. She is a sought-after relationship expert and has been featured on Bravo’s The Millionaire Matchmaker, ABC news, and quoted in places like Cosmo Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. Her studies include a Master's in Spiritual Psychology, certification in Life and Relationship coaching from The Coaches Training Institute, and intensive training with Don Miguel Ruiz, author of “The Four Agreements.” Her forthcoming book, Naked Dating®, shows singles how to use their emotional nakedness to attract and keep a life partner. Lisa lives in Los Angeles, CA with her husband and best friend, Benjamin, and their two dogs, Milo and Owen. She coaches clients all over the country, both in person or by phone. Guiding Principle, Quote or Mantra “Out beyond right doing and wrong doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” - Rumi Be in relationship and let go of the need to be right. This creates a huge playground where you can play and be yourself because you don’t hold onto things. When You Tripped Up Lisa married a man who turned out to be a pathological liar.  Where she tripped up is for a long time she just saw what she wanted to see and heard what she wanted to hear.  She was so afraid for the relationship to end that she stayed in it for 13 years and made excuses for things that were not right.  Lisa learned was that if someone is pathological they aren’t dealing from a healthy paradigm. His issues distracted her from dealing with her own issues so this disfunction served a purpose. The “DUH” moment that changed your partnerships forever  During Lisa’s first marriage she was doing a great deal of introspection because things were getting so bad.  They were having an intense discussion about money. And she realized it was the same conversation they had been having for the past 13 years. She stopped mid sentence and said “I can’t do this anymore. You need to figure this out, and I can’t do this for you. And I’m leaving.” The next day she packed her bags and flew back to the States. Current partnership that has you excited Lisa adores her husband. He is a truly extraordinary human being and she feels lucky to share her life with him. What is the best partnership / relationship advice you have ever received? You should never have to justify or explain yourself to a soul. People will either get you or they won’t. - Don Miguel Ruiz Best Partnership Book (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786881852/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0786881852&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=5c5862a8b822d7a69a7e98dd108bb134) Don't Sweat the Small Stuff . . . and It's All Small Stuff: Simple Ways to Keep the Little Things from Taking Over Your Life (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786881852/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0786881852&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=933193a092cb63e1e1dd72a7e96ebdb5) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316120049/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0316120049&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=a98e0e838c4ebaa71e8d54613d0a8ed5) Handbook for the Heart: Original Writings on Love (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316120049/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0316120049&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=32fd18503ca16fef8229a7ea22cdbcfd)...
