Too many people think more training equals better results. It's simply not true. Strength isn't built by just spending more time in the gym. It's developed through smart, fundamental movements and proper load management. Quality over quantity is crucial. It's not about the number of sessions each week, but how you utilize each one. Remember, high performance comes from understanding how your body works and what it needs, rather than just adding more volume. It's not about cramming in extra sessions; it's about optimizing for the best ROI - your body's adaptation and recovery. Understand that quality trumps quantity. High performance is a strategic craft, not a numbers game. What do you value more in your training: quality or quantity? Today's podcast features David Weck and Chris Chamberlin of WeckMethod. David Weck is biomechanist, and the creator of a number of inventions that work key characteristics of human locomotion and movement, including the BOSU Balance Trainer. David started the WeckMethod as a project to inspire and educate individuals on the importance of optimizing's human balance through locomotion as he works to make “Every Step Stronger” for everyone. Chris Chamberlin is the Head Coach and Director of Education for the WeckMethod. Chris has over 15 years of coaching experience and a lifetime of personal practice in movement efficiency that has earned him recognition as a leader in innovative thought in the fitness industry. Chris has both a creative approach to multi-planar training, as well as impressive “raw” strength levels in the traditional lifts. If you browse the internet, you will easily see a lot of “functional” training exercises, designed to catch eyeballs, that build neither strength, nor functional ability. The key in the effectiveness of any movement beyond a basic strength exercise is in its patterning, and closeness to the key characteristics of human locomotion, swinging and throwing. When you find movements that allow your body to truly feel more of what it uses in these core human patterns, you can then “port” that movement into the scope of your core strength and speed training. At the end of the day, whether you like the BOSU Ball or not, David's keen observations of the core components of human movement have played a substantial role for me in how I observe the twisting, side bending and general locomotive mechanisms of the human being. Chris Chamberlin has taken David's observation and creativity, and put his lens of practicality onto the total process. On the show today, David and Chris talk about how the WeckMethod helped Chris's big-lifts to get even better, tool usage as an essential aspect of human movement, primal movement patterning in respect to training volume, bending and twisting integration into more traditional strength methods, concepts on the foot, and much more. Are you ready to get erotic? Join me with one of the coolest women I have been lucky enough to meet! Eleanor O'Brien is the creator of Stand Up Smut, and Dance Naked Creative. For over a decade, she has helped people tell their stories in a way that celebrates their sexuality, revels in it, explores it, and firmly believes no one should be punished for their curiosity. With an MFA at the University of San Diego, she has done everything from Shakespeare at the Old Globe Theater and auditioned for commercials, film, and tv, but something felt deeply unsatisfying to her. Only when she wrote her first show, Dominatrix for Dummies did she realize what was missing! She wanted to make theater that mattered and had something to say; that helped people see different possibilities for their own lives. She wanted to make shows about sex and that is just what she's done! Grab your drink and kick back! You are in for one erotic ride! We have all heard some myths about BDSM, Kink, and D/s. For those in the communities, these can feel like a slap in the face and often result in shame that hurts on a deeper level than even humiliation play can reach. They also result in misunderstandings and total avoidance to learning more about the world of kink and BDSM to those new to this world. It's time to dispel some that have made their way across my desk recently and provide the research to disprove them, as well as insight into what it's really like in a consensual dynamic. This conversation is about high-performance training. We are all striving to perform at the highest levels in our domains. What can we do to improve our mental faculties. That's where Aditi Surana comes to the rescue. Recently, she coached the Femina Miss India 2022 finalists. In this conversation, we talk about the followingHow a dyslexic became a handwriting analystLearning from movies, Bollywood to understand your inner strengthBuilding and honing skills as a writer, podcasterThe Flow stateWhat's a high performance mindsetMental workoutsOur trigger points - mental and emotionalMental gymsAbout Aditi SuranaShe started early, first just seeing patterns in people's writing that corresponded to behavioural traits, almost 'reading between the lines' instead of on the line (didn't make her popular with school teachers) as she's dyslexic. Then analysing the handwriting for friends and family, and shortly thereafter, borne by her pioneering spirit, the regional management of a very popular coffee shop chain invited her to set up at their locations across Mumbai. She captivated her audience of students, professionals, businessmen and housewives alike, referred primarily by word of mouth, and later on her very own radio talk show (on Radio City) aged 22. As she honed her skill (& intuition), she realised that she could not only decipher a person through their handwriting but also objectively identify psychological constraints, and provide corrective measures. One thing led to the next and the HR head of IBM India & ISPAT (now JSW), gave her an opportunity to use this knowledge to better corporate practises like hiring, mentorship & coaching. Overtime her bond with CEOs, CFOs and COOs strengthened and many interesting opportunities came her way, one of her favourites being the re-design of company logos to create a tangible shift in their growth. She's been featured in print, and on television media in India & globally, loves to travel (and does so quite often), currently resides in Mumbai and has clients all across the world. www.aditisurana.com

Normally I would steer you to a guest's social media or website. While Casey graciously shares her knowledge in this interview, due to the nature of her work, you won't find her on the internet. Let's talk about Libido... in particular, how do we overcome libido discrepancy? (i.e.: when one partner wants more sex than the other.) While we are at it, let's take it a step further and throw parenting, life, and a little kink into the mix! In this episode, I'm going to address an insightful question from a follower concerning how to talk to their partner about the tough subject of getting more sex when one partner isn't feeling it. I also take you on a deep dive into a conflict resolution technique called "The Imago Dialogue" (and how it can be used as check-in method for D/s dynamics), how this fits in with creating more responsive desire, as well as teach you how to find what your inner self actually needs from sex. I'll also give actionable steps to reframe what pleasure is, and build a container of safety that will help partners connect on a deeper level, even when sex isn't on the menu! Let's get going! This week's Pacey Performance Podcast guest is Matt Jordan. Throughout his career, Matt has consulted with more than 30 Olympic and World Championship medallists, and he frequently provides his expertise to high-performance sport organisations. Matt has been a strength and conditioning coach and applied sport scientist working with international athletes for over six Olympic Winter Games. In addition to being the Director of Sport Science at the Canadian Sport Institute Calgary, Matt is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. On the podcast, Matt discusses a topic he wrote about in High Performance Training for Sports (2nd Edition) – efficiency of movement. Not only does Matt define what efficiency of movement is, but he also explains how experts apply it to training programmes. He also dives into the strength training framework for mechanical efficiency, and how isometric training should be adapted to apply to specific sports. Continuing the technical side of things, Matt also talks about loading for technical efficiency. Matt also talks about some of the psychological aspects of sport science, such as why coaches need to remember that they are ‘servants of performance' and not become transfixed on their own particular way of doing things. In a similar vein, Matt speaks about how coaches can detach from irrelevant information and see a problem for what it is, and avoid the pitfalls of following the same model again and again. To hear all this insight and much more, hit the play button now. This week's topics: What is efficiency of movement? Applying efficiency of movement to training programmes The strength training framework for mechanical efficiency Isometric training, and how specific exercises need to be for certain sports Why coaches need to remember that they are ‘servants of performance' How to detach from irrelevant information and see a problem for what it is Loading for technical efficiency How to avoid the pitfalls of being transfixed on a specific model

Dana is a senior practitioner at the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, and a head strength conditioning coordinator at the University of Victoria. He has also worked in rowing and rugby, including with the Canadian women's rugby sevens team at Rio 2016. Jeremy is a strength conditioning coach with Canada Snowboard, previously having also worked with the Canadian Sport Institute. The duo have recently written the jumping and landing training chapter in High Performance Training for Sports (second edition). Here, they discuss aspects of their research such as jump testing analysis and performance metrics, explaining the metrics to measure between differing sports and athlete levels. They also talk about tools to avoid, and whether to pursue variations in training. In addition, the pair also talk about jump sustainability and what works in different sports and for different athletes. This includes what to consider when developing jumping exercises, force vectors, and landing evaluations. When it comes to jumps training, performance development and analysis, this week's guests quite literally wrote the book on it, so hit the play button now for all this insight and much, much more. This week's topics: Jump testing analysis Tools to avoid due to their unreliability Differing sport-specific analysis metrics Differing metrics based on athlete experience and level The process for developing jumping exercises Arguments for and against lots of variation in training Force vectors and choosing exercises based on vertical and horizontal Jump sustainability, and the programming that influences it Landing evaluations and differences between sports What landings can tell us about other training variables, e.g., deceleration

EP 233 of the Leave Your Mark Podcast is a return engagement with my friend from down under, David Joyce. David has been a real leader in the world of human performance for a very long time now. I value a great deal his insights and learnings through a career at every level of the performance spectrum. In this wonderful conversation, we get into his change in life direction, his choice to do an MBA, his growth in fatherhood, and the work he and his co-editor Dan Lewindon have been doing through COVID to bring the second edition of their groundbreaking text "High-Performance Training for Sport" to fruition. Herding this incredible group of practitioners to the creation of a legacy textbook that really summarizes the changes in the landscape of performance, the newest research findings, and the future expectations of things to come. It's a conversation about the passions of this man's life and our common beliefs in the integration of human performance.

In this Just Go Play podcast episode, Daryl Devonish speaks with Derrell Levy on: In-Tech High Performance Training: Where Family Comes First.Derrell was considered 'late to the game' when he started playing hockey around 10 years old and was fortunate to have support and mentors in his life that paved the way for a positive experience in sport. This included being part of the first group at Skillz Hockey focused on exposing young players from diverse backgrounds to the highest level of professional instruction.Derrell's natural talent and work ethic helped him pave a career with hockey that included winning a National Hockey Championship in 2007 with Oswego State University, and playing several years of Minor Pro Hockey. While at Oswego, Derrell was working with his physiotherapist Jason Pratt who saw his ambition and drove him to creating a business plan for, what would be years later, In-Tech High Performance Training. Having achieved an academic background consisting of a Wellness Management Degree, a minor in Health Science and Coaching, as well as NSCA, CSCS, and PT Certifications, Derrell travelled extensively to mentor under top coaches and to continue his education. Derrell has over twelve years of on-ice coaching experience, as well as nearly a decade of creating strength and conditioning programs for nationally ranked basketball and hockey teams, and high profile athletes including those of the NHL, OHL, AHL, and CFL.Derrell ’s compassion and ability to mentor in both the gym and life has allowed In-Tech to grow into much more than simply a training facility. He has created a culture that gives elite athletes, youth, and adult fitness enthusiasts alike, the support, resources, and inspiration to reach their true potential.Hear the lessons learned and inspiration Derrell has behind building In-Tech to what it is today and where it will be in the future including:Teach kids the positive and negative they will experience in life and give them a safe and controlled environment where they can be challenged.Don't put expectations on kids - let them have fun and then, if they decide to pursue more competitively, feed the wolf.Baseline test so athletes know where they stand - strengths and weaknesses - and what they need to focus on to get better. As Derrell says everyday; 'I can. 1) Experiencia. 4) Concepto “Exit criterea” ¿Cuándo vuelve a competir? Aquí viene la primera controversia entre “Fit to play” y “Fit to perform”. 8) Errores. Me paró y me dijo: No, no, no… - The language of coaching. Nick Winkelman. - Range. David Epstein. - Science and application of high-intensity interval training. Paul Laursen y Martin Buchheit. - Principles. Ray Dalio - Conscious coaching.

Something different for the holiday week! In this podcast, Dr. Justin Ross, Dimity, and TLAM Club Coach MK talk with Monica Knox and Ana Hernandez, two Denver-based mother runners looking to qualify for Boston at the Philadelphia Marathon. Huddled around one mic, the quintet dive into the mental side of the ladies’ race prep and discuss how to maximize performance on marathon day. In the Train Like a Mother Club in 2017, Justin—or “JRo”—will be leading small-group webinars focused on the mental aspects of running: motivation, goal setting, mental toughness, and race execution. Spoiler alert: We checked in with Ana and Monica during the busy Thanksgiving week to see how their races went. Monica had a tough week leading up to Philly, and struggled with the wind and other issues. She did not meet her time goal, but is confident she’ll make it to the Boston starting line. (We are too!) Meanwhile, Ana ran a determined 3:43, well under the 3:55 she needed to run to nab a Boston 2018 bib. *Looking to try... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Today on the show, we talk about Derek’s philosophy in application towards linear speed testing, sprint drills, general vs. specific strength, bar speed monitoring, and more. Today’s episode is brought to you by SimpliFaster, supplier of high-end athletic development tools, such as the Freelap timing system, kBox, Sprint 1080, and more. Key Points: The value of testing linear speed in field sports The evaluation process of athletes for speed Derek’s take on sprint drills and transfer to speed performance Ideas on specific vs. general strength training for building speed and power The potential of negative transfer in barbell training for the sake of speed Bar speed monitoring and its application (or contraindications) for sport performance Role of building muscle hypertrophy in speed development Scope of using the Olympic lifts in speed and team sport development given that there is time for coaches to teach athletes the lifts with an appropriate proficiency Quotes: “I just like to see people sprint, and see what they look like” “If all you did was time people to 10 yards, you would have a good amount of information, if you timed to them to 20, even more” “There’s a bit of a show to (the NFL combine)” “To get the time, you get some information, but if you actually see how they run the 40 or any linear sprint distance, it’s important to me, because it tells me, one what their preparation was. It tells me how efficient they are going to be. If someone expends a lot of energy and is very tight running the 40, it tells me how efficient they are going to be in their sport. It tells me they may not be as effective in their sport, because they might not have as much control over their body. It may determine their change of direction abilities if they are not relaxed in a maximal linear sprint” “Some of the things that we look at in the 40 yard dash subjectively should dovetail with what (sport coaches) are looking at on the field and have some commonalities so that we can arrive at the same place and provide value to the athlete. Everyone wants to test well, but ultimately are they playing well on the field and are you winning games.” “If I’m working with a younger or novice group, sprint drills are good for posture, limb mechanics to some degree, and useful for general strengthening in a lot of cases” “They are particularly good if you are working with teams in a confined space” “Drill might not be necessary because they are doing more damage than good; I had a 10.5 sprinter who couldn’t do a skipping “A”. His running technique wasn’t bad, this drill was just going to make things worse and frustrate him, so we got rid of that drill” “Drills are either active (teaching) or reactive (corrective drills)” “I’ve found significant improvements in changing and retaining technique when I video movement and athletes can watch it on their own” “If you work with track and field, you don’t really look at the weight room as the answer, you look at it as a part,

In this episode I speak with another author from the book High Performance Training for Sports, Mike McGuigan. Mike is also a professor at the Sports Performance Research Institute in New Zealand and is putting some great research out there at the moment on strength and power development, data presentation and performance testing. I speak with Mike about prioritising interventions with so much data collection going on, determining how much strength transfers to performance and how individualised training should be. Mike is a SUPER smart guy but he does such a great job of simplifying complex statistics for us mere mortals.
