Bucket list, dream guest Kate Kennedy joined me for a discussion of one of my favorite 2024 reads, One In A Millenial. If I could summarize my nostalgia and feelings in a book, this is it. Just trust me. It is a celebration pop culture moments in the 90's, 00's and today woven with the most perfect cultural commentary that only Kennedy can do. You will laugh, you will cry, you will find yourself reaching out to your oldest friends. Kate and I chatted, Taylor, Jessie Spano, sleepovers, motherhood, school supplies and everything else. I could have talked to her for hours. She has a way in her podcast, Be There In Five, of making you feel like she is sitting right beside you, a friend right there with you and that is how this book feels. A fun convo with your bestest friend and I am jealous for anyone who gets to read it for the first time.

Send us a Text Message.Remember 1995's Showgirls starring Jessie Spano from Saved By The Bell? Elizabeth Berkley went from schoolgirl “Goody Goody Bookworm” to “Sociopath Stripper” overnight. It also starred the Twin Peaks dude, Kyle MacLachlan, and the beautiful, super-talented actress, Gina Gershon. It was directed by the same guy who gave us RoboCop, Total Recall, and Basic Instinct. This movie was stacked. But this movie was ravaged by Critics And Audiences alike in the 90s. We remember thinking it wasn't as bad as the 13 Razzie Nomination (still a record today) and the 7 wins it received. But we haven't seen this movie since the 90s and now we're not sure. So join us as we go back to 1995 and watch a film with so much talent behind it and so much hate against it to see why we remember liking it. Do You Remember Liking This Movie?

It's Oscars season! Whether or not you recognized this national holiday by tuning into the awards show on Sunday, you probably know all the drama that comes with those little golden statues - the glamor, the glitz, the snubs. And speaking of snubs, one film that had nary a nomination was the focus of today's classic: Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls. Enjoy (as long as you're over 17)!~~~Does your Venn Diagram of interests include Dale Cooper, Saved by the Bell, and Robocop? Also, are you 17 or older? Then you're in luck! Because in 1995, after achieving cinematic fame with Basic Instinct, Paul Verhoeven and Joe Eszterhaz teamed up for another film, this time set in the world of Las Vegas exotic dancers and show business, and the results were...controversial.Rob teaches Ray about Verhoeven's original vision for "Showgirls" as a satirical commentary on the American Dream, and how that vision went awry; the communities that sprang up to champion the movie after it bombed at the box office; why to steer clear of Las Vegas jacuzzis; and how changing a piece of art from its original form can help it live on, but might also misrepresent its creators' original intentions. If you like what we're doing, please support us on Patreon, or you can subscribe to our bonus content on Apple Podcasts. “When I went back and looked at some of these shows that I loved, I noticed that the writer's room was all adult men with the exception of one or two episodes in Saved by the Bell's case. And I just thought, wow, it is so interesting that we talk about diversity and representation, like yes, of course, who's on the screen matters, but who's in the writer's room and who's telling the stories really matters too, because that's where stereotypes abound. Because those men were not writing Jesse Spano as an example of an actual feminist. She was written as a character from an adult male's response to like second wave feminist stereotypes. And they found that type of woman irritating, so they wrote Jessie as an irritating character. And it just was an interesting thing for me to explore the way I internalized themes from pop culture thinking about who was writing this and when did it contribute to a stereotype versus when did it communicate an authentic experience.” So says Kate Kennedy, a brilliantly astute historian of millennial culture, which she explores, in depth in One in a Millenial: On Friendship, Feelings, Fangirls, and Fitting in, a bestselling book that's part memoir, but really a love letter and a critique of the culture so many of us grew up in. As part of my book tour I went on Kate's podcast, Be There in Five, where I was immediately taken by her intelligence and deep, deep knowledge of the programming that shaped our consciousness, from Jessie Spano's feminism in Saved by the Bell—and the laugh track it inspired—to the way so many women and girls were taught that our interests were dumb, shallow, and silly. Or, to use the parlance of the day: Basic. In One in a Millenial, Kennedy points to this long tradition of the veneration of action figures, Marvel, and football—and the deprecation of pretty much anything that girls and women value, whether it's romance novels, the Spice Girls, or American Girl Dolls. While her point is not new—and certainly aligned with our summer of the Barbie movie, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé—her exploration of how it shaped her own mind in childhood, and the way she experiences herself now as a result of it, is revelatory, and something we explore in today's conversation. When it comes to you and your business with regards to growth, there seems to be two equal but wildly different camps that folks will settle into - like "A Tale of Two Cities" or the twins from "The Parent Trap" movies (Hayley Mills or Lindsay Lohan, take your pick). Either you get way too excited (think that episode of Saved By the Bell with Jessie Spano and the caffeine pills) and you buy up equipment or hire personnel you think you need without the revenue backing and true growth to support it ... or you're the micromanaging money miser (think Ebeneezer Scrooge pre ghostly visits) that has the money and the numbers to back up growth, but you're reluctant to pull the trigger and you stunt your growth due to lack of support. It seems like a no-win scenario no matter what, like you're a Starfleet captain facing the Kobayashi Maru training exercise. And, not unlike a young Captain James Tiberius Kirk, our boys Sid and Keith here at The Overlap Podcast are going to hack the scenario and find a way for you and your company to win. It's a fine balance to figure out strategic growth, but our boys will make like the Flying Wallendas and have you right in that sweet spot of appreciating opportunities while maintaining strategic, sustainable growth. This week's episode is a must listen for any industry so that you and your business may ... live long and prosper. Something Shiny: ADHD!
A Conversation About ADHD Medications - Part I

Something Shiny: ADHD!

Big Ol' Disclaimer: We are not doctors or prescribers, but two therapists who have a lot of experience working with folx on/off, loving/hating, trying/not trying all types of medications and accommodations for ADHD. Please seek medical advice for all your medication questions!  Continuation of disclaimers galore: we are not giving medical advice, just our opinions. There are a lot of doctors in the world who know what medical terms actually mean and what they mean long term, we very much are aware that psychopharmacology is not our specialty, but we have a lot of experience with people trying medication. Nobody really talks about medication without being hyperbolic: it's talked about as something that saved your life or that is awful. Most people who find something really effective medication or accommodation don't talk about it everywhere. They just take the win and talk about it with their therapist. People often get the pop-psych version of what antidepressants, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, stimulant, etc. meds are, v. How often we talk about something like insulin or blood pressure medications: they carry more shame, stigma, myths and misperceptions. ADHD is a medical condition that can have psychiatric consequences. This is something that is medically warranted but not psychiatrically warranted at all times. People think you can't go to a regular doctor and get ADHD medication, but you can: it is a neurological difference and a medical condition. Not every person with ADHD needs medication AND it's not a deficit if you have to take medication. A dilemma David experiences as a therapist is that he is hired by his clients to help wean them off of a medication; we have these thoughts around dependency and what it means to be on meds. What's strange is how differently we view medication as opposed to other accommodations; for example, no one suggests you work a program to improve your vision to remove your need for eyeglasses (if such a thing exists, barring LASIK), but it's something we do with medications. David just accepts he's wearing glasses because they're super effective. We don't talk about how effective ADHD medication is for those who want to take it. Isabelle pauses to do a real-time look up of the numbers on efficacy, it is so much more effective than it is for other psychiatric conditions because it is a medical condition (70% of adults and 70-80% of children shortly after starting treatment, per the Cleveland Clinic—see the link below; this is contrasted to a 50% efficacy for antidepressants per the National Health Service—also see link below.).  Also a way to think about how quickly you find a med that works for you, versus an antidepressant. It's important that an ADHD med can help you and not be the right medication for you. Individuals with ADHD require more stimulation to do boring, nonstimulating, low-novelty tasks, so they'll self-medicate with their own emotions, using anger, excitement, anxiety or fear—all of those make your heart beat faster, arouse your nervous system. Those emotional states are stimulants. David describes gamifying pairing his socks to make his self-stimulant through excitement rather than anger. For people who find anger or anxiety shutting them down in life, when those things get in your way, you might want to think about ADHD medication—it's not just about impacting focus, it's about the emotional consequences that come with ADHD. David reviews how non-stimulant medication (eg. Like Strattera) works like small chemical restraints, slows you down. More effective for anxiety-heavy ADHD. Stimulant medications (eg. Like Adderall and Ritalin) are more a way to stimulate your nervous system so you don't need to self-stimulate to reach that condition.  David describes that he didn't get medication until he was in undergrad or college, the before moment was: “someday I'll read a book.” And the after was “I could read a book,” this is why he's such an advocate for people finding what works for them, medication nor not, medication for David was the difference between being a C/D student to becoming an A student. The closest he ever got to as focused as he was on meds was when David convinced himself he would be homeless if he didn't finish a book in 8th grade, aside from that he didn't read. To name the abuse of stimulant meds: people can abuse any substance: you can abuse food, for example. It's important that these drugs are prescribed with therapy, so that a person starts to learn what a medication works for and what it doesn't work for. The medication doesn't change your life, you take the medication so you can change your behavior, to fix your life. It's not speed and doesn't make everyone do a lot of work; rather, it changes to give people with ADHD a more accurate appraisal of their work, but people without ADHD will appraise their work higher (while their actual performance doesn't change, it just makes you think you performed better). Because of how impacted the self-esteem is of folx with ADHD, this boost in appraisal makes it so they become more accurate when on the medication (e.g you'd normally think you're horrible at a thing, but on the medication you might recognize you are slightly above average). It reminds Isabelle of Jessie Spano in Saved by the Bell abusing caffeine pills and recognize how horrible Zack Morris was on that show (see links below if you missed this cultural moment) and how the show is essentially a symbol of toxic masculinity. Returning to caffeine—it has a very different impact on your body if you have it every day v. once in a while. If you drink it regularly, it can be a vasodilator (which helps your blood pressure) and helps you with dopamine and serotonin, v. If you have it once in a while it increases your blood pressure—why a random coffee feels so much worse than it did before. This is also why any client that tries medication often has to re-evaluate their caffeine intake. Which is why if you take ADHD meds and also have caffeine, you may turn into Jessie Spano, having a horrible day, feeling anxious and scared.Articles Mentioned:Cleveland Clinic source on ADHD med efficacyNational Health Service reference on antidepressant efficacySaved by the bell clip Isabelle is referencing — Jessie Spano “I'm so excited, I'm so scared” Zach Morris is Trash (short clip show from Funny or Die; in case you want to catch up on what led up to the moment Jessie was so scared and excited): “That time Zack Morris got Jessie Hooked on Caffeine Pills”DAVID'S DEFINITIONSPsychopharmacology: The study of medicine used to alter brain states and behavior.Self-Stimulants (emotions you use to make your heart beat faster, arouse your nervous system, up your stimulation level): anger, excitement, anxiety or fear. What are some types of medications for ADHD? Non-stimulant: small chemical restraints, like a heavy blanket. Slows you down by slowing down your blood pressure. Often more effective for folx experiencing more anxiety alongside their ADHD, because it works against the anxiety. Eg. Strattera, Intuniv (Guanfacine), etc.Stimulant: You don't have to be angry to be interested, or nervous to be focused, you are just stimulated (your nervous system is stimulated with the medication). Eg. Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin, etc. REMINDER: We are not doctors or prescribers, but two therapists who have a lot of experience working with folx on/off, loving/hating, trying/not trying all types of medications and accommodations for ADHD.  Please seek medical advice for all your medication questions!-----Cover Art by: Sol VázquezTechnical Support by: Bobby Richards

There's an aggressive yet jerky dance lesson, majorly queer overtones, lizard tongues, horny monkeys, cracker foreplay, some very entertaining Reel Fun Facts and we are forced to watch the wettest, cringiest, most, uh, vigorous game of Marco Polo ever played.    We find out Snowy is Miss Manners and The Doctor has more of a point and laugh vibe. We've got harsh words for Jessie Spano as she attempts to reach for the stars, Snoelle denies rumors of being a Las Vegas Showgirl Wizard, the Doctor laughs so hard she almost dies, Elvis returns and that kiss was just not it sis. We have all this and so much more, on this week's Reel Fun Times.

If you're a millennial you likely grew up watching "Saved by the Bell." Maybe you stuck with the show through "The College Years." Hell, maybe you even witnessed Zack and Kelly get married in "Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas." And you probably grew up thinking, "Zack Morris is so cool!" Until a little YouTube series by "Funny or Die" shattered that illusion with "Zack Morris is Trash." And suddenly, every fan of Saved by the Bell was forced to reckon with the realization that Zack Morris is kind of a douche. At least that was Nicole and Rolando's journey with the show. This week, the duo take aim at "Saved by the Bell" and the Peacock revival. What is the legacy of the after-school sitcom for kids? Was AC Slater Italian or Hispanic? Why was Jessie Spano so hated by audiences back in the day? And how do you revive a show with a problematic main character? Peacock's answer: replace him with a poor, inner-city Latina. To round out our “Back to School” triad, we bring you THE UNAUTHORIZED SAVED BY THE BELL STORY (2014). TUSBTBS tells the tale of six unknown actors who quickly rose to fame right before America’s eyes. You may know them as Zach Morris, Screech Powers, Kelly Kapowski, Jessie Spano, Lisa Turtle, and A.C. Slater, but who are the people behind the immensely popular early-90’s Saturday morning teenage sitcom? Not only is this movie UNAUTHORIZED, it’s also based on Dustin Diamond’s memoirs, so you KNOW it’s going to be filthy, shocking, and 100% accurate (DISCLAIMER: It is none of those things). We also talk about which public figure has the best scent, the child star phenomenon, and Rachel officially declares war on Dustin Neil “Screech Powers” Diamond. Of course, there were others who decided to drag out ancient complaints over what women should rap about and what they shouldn’t. Cardi B took to twitter to say “First of all, I rap about p-word because she my best friend, and second of all it’s because it seems like that’s what people wanna hear. I ain’t even gonna front because let me tell you something: when I did ‘Be Careful,’ people was talking mad s**t in the beginning like, ‘What the f**k is this? So it’s like if that’s what people aren’t trying to hear then alright, I’m going to start rapping about my p***y again.” Chris what did you think about the video and the response? 2. Well, according to ET Online We all should get ready to call Zac Efron "daddy!" The 32-year-old actor is set to star in a remake of Three Men and a Baby intended for Disney+, multiple outlets report. Although the remake has yet to set a director, The Hollywood Reporter, which was first to break the news, reports that Will Reichel has written the script, while Gordon Gray (The Rookie, The Way Back) will be producing it. The original 1987 hit comedy, based on the French film Trois hommes et un couffin (Three Men and a Cradle), followed the story of a group of bachelors (Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson) living together in New York City. Their lives changed abruptly, however, when a baby girl fathered by one of the men unexpectedly shows up at their doorstep. A sequel, Three Men and a Little Lady, followed in 1990. What do you remember about this film and are you looking forward to this remake? 3. The new trailer for "Saved by the Bell" that will be streaming on Peacock takes us further back to Bayside High School, with new students at its center and familiar faces Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, who played AC Slater and Jessie Spano on the original series. The Max, the restaurant featured in the show, also cameos in the trailer. It's among several callback moments. In one scene previewed, Spano, who works at the school, shares words of caution about the use of caffeine pills -- a reference to a memorable storyline involving the character and a much-memed moment. 4. This week an announcement for Tron 3’s hiring of Garth Davis to direct, it was mentioned that the most recent draft written by Jessie Wigutow is still the one that’s currently in circulation – the one that was initially planned as a sequel for Tron: Legacy and was developing under the title Tron: Ascension. Wigutow has been associated with this potential Tron sequel for quite some time now. It also seems that Jared Leto is the confirmed lead in the film. What that means exactly isn't entirely clear. it’s been reported that Disney scrapped the chances of a direct sequel, we might not be seeing this happen with most of, if not any, of the leads from Tron: Legacy, a.k.a. Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. So the question is what does it all mean?

Day: 008 Date: Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020 Note from Aimee J.: You have more time than you think. Topic: Manage Your Time Action: Plan out your day. Take a sheet of paper and divide it in two. On the left side, write down 24 hours starting from two hours before you wake up to 11:59PM in hour or ½ hour increments. Still on the left-side next time to the times, in pencil, block off the time you know you’re doing something, i.e. sleeping, working, activities, studying, etc. You should start to see what free time you have. Make a list of things you need to do on the left-side of the paper. Now is when you have to manage your time. Fit your to do items into the spaces not blocked off. If you can’t fit everything, then you need to do one of two things. Either one, adjust your blocked time (i.e. sleep for less, take shorter breaks, cut back on tv time, etc.), or really think on whether that to do item needs to get done today. It won’t always be easy and you won’t always make everything fit, but do your best. Here's an example of my list or check it out on my Instagram highlights: Affirmations: You are brave. You are talented. You are smart. You are unique. You are you.  =) and You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. And most importantly, YOU ARE ENOUGH. I Have Only Just a Minute by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays I have only just a minute, Only sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, can’t refuse it. Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it. But it’s up to me to use it. I must suffer if I lose it. Give account if I abuse it. Just a tiny little minute, but eternity is in it. This is your personal hype man, Aimee J. Thank you guys so much for tuning in. I promise within the next week or so we are going to get a better intro than just applause. It's coming. We're working on it, but you got to start somewhere. I couldn't wait for perfection to kick off this amazing podcast, which I am. So I have fun with doing this. It brings me back to my original podcasting days and I'm just having fun with this. So hopefully you guys are finding something out of this too. And if you are hitting me up on social media at @aimeej21 let me know. This is for you. This is kind of to help you and remind myself as well that you are brave, you are talented, you are smart, you are unique and you are you. And that is the best thing this world could get. Being yourself is the best gift you could give this world and living your life day in and day out the way you want it is the best thing you could do for yourself. So guys, we've talked about a number of things in the past week. Don't forget, even though we're not doing gratitude, uh, together, ask yourself, what are three things I'm grateful for? And repeat that to yourself every day. It's a very helpful exercise. I do it myself. I don't do it. We're not going to do it on the show anymore together, but maybe, maybe periodically. But do that on your own when you wake up, remind yourself what is, what are three things I'm grateful for? Very important exercise. It helps kind of set you right, in mindset and in focus for the day. It puts you in a positive space. So try to do that. Highly encourage it. You know, it's up to you. But I do encourage it because it is important. Today we're going to talk about managing your time. That could be a number of things. It's a huge topic. I'm really gonna focus on just one day, right? And so I want to share with you an important poem that my mentor, the late Mr. LaMont Toliver shared with me, that really resonated with me during college. And it's by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays. It's "I have only just a minute" and here's how it goes. I have only just a minute, only 60 seconds in it forced upon me. Can't refuse it, didn't seek it, didn't choose it, but it's up to me to use it. I must suffer if I lose it, give account if I abuse it. Just the tiny little minute. But eternity isn't it? Isn't that such a powerful poem? Often times we think we just don't have any time. There is no time. You know, you think of that saved by the bell episode. I'm dating myself, but where Jessie Spano is panicking about tests and studying, and she got so much going on, there's no time. There's never any time, you know, no time to study, no time to do this. We often feel that way, but guys, we actually have more time than we expect more time than we think. It's true. There are 24 hours in a day. You only need to sleep probably six or seven of that. Some of you are hardcore and need less than that, but six or seven is about the average. Do the research, see what it is, you know your body the best. So go with that. Then you have your work. So usually eight to eight hours, you may be in school, that's about eight hours, whatever that is, right? So if we're thinking seven, we're thinking eight, that's 15 that's 15 hours of 24 so if I pull out a calculator and I do 24 minus 15 that gives us nine hours left in the day, nine hours, nine hours to spend time with our family, nine hours to do our homework, nine hours to prepare ourselves for the next moment, right? So yeah, of course some time will be spent on getting ready for the day travel, right? But there's still time. Some of you guys think that there is no time because you get home and you're just, that's it. There's nothing you can do. But in reality there is time. So I want you to do this. There's an exercise that I do to help myself figure out and manage my time and want to share it with you. It's kind of noted in the show notes. So check that out in the description. It'll be there. Um, and the way it works is you take a piece of paper, 8 ½ half by 11, whatever, whatever paper you have, write down on the left side, we're gonna divide the paper into two on the left side. Write down the number of hours, a few hours before you sleep all the way to midnight. Okay, go all the way to the midnight. And if, if some of you are daring, go past midnight. So for me, I do from four o'clock to midnight and I write that down. I write within half hour an hour increments. That's up to you. Play around with what you're comfortable with. I do it by an hour and I took a picture of this. It'll be on my Instastory but I'm going to try and put it in my show notes. So check there as well so that you can see what it is I'm talking about. So you're going to write the hours, that's step one. Step two is on that same left side right next to the times. Block out time that you already know you have to take account for. School work, uh, activities. You may have Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, uh, after school programs, sports, whatever it is, go out, go ahead and block the time off. Right? You're, we're, we're doing is, we're getting a picture of where your free time is. Once you've blocked that off, you'll see where your time is going and you'll see where your free time is. And now is when you need to start managing that time. So we've set up the left side. I want you to go to the right side of the paper and write down your to do list for the day. Okay? Just for the day, what is it you have to get done today in order to sleep peacefully. Might include studying for an exam, might be doing some homework, might be doing your chores. You should include that, right? That takes up time. And now's the managing. Take the stuff on the right side in your to do list items and put it in the space that you have on the left side. And when you find out, hey, something's not fitting, there's not enough time. We got to think of one or two things. One, can we move things around, cut back a little bit on our sleep, maybe not watch TV as much as we wanted to. Right? Adjust things so that we can fit what we need in. Or two do we really need to get this item done today or can it wait till the next day? Right? That's how we're going to manage our time. That's how you have to put it together. So think about that, try that and see if you do this, you will start getting into the habit of being more in control of your time and the time and less of the time being control of you. Right? You'll panic last because you know clearly what the battle plan is. That's what we're doing. We're managing our time and laying it out and I do this every day, just kind of see what my day is going to look like. Sometimes I do it in unofficial ways. Does have to be this formal of a thing. But you know, when I was in high school, when I was in college, this is what I did. This is how I kept track of my time. So for those who are like, how do you balance everything, this is how, this is what I did, this made my life easier, right? And there are tricks for other things of managing time we'll talk about later. But start with this, start with this. Manage your time. You have more time than you think you do and maybe you're giving more time to things that don't need it. But that's where the managing part comes in. All right guys. So keep in mind, you know that this is all up to you. Even though I'm sharing this, I'm telling you, giving you advice about how to manage your time, you have to do what works for you. So I want to make sure that's clear because while I'm your hype men and I will support you through and through. At the end of the day, it's all about you. True story. Okay? So you do what you gotta do. There are apps that can help you. The Todoist is one, Things is another app. I'm sure there are plenty others that can help you. Planners have hours put in it, use that. Franklin Covey if that's still a thing, you know, find what works for you. The point and message I want to get to you today though is manage your time. Find a way, and manage your time. What I shared with you is just one option. All right? So guys, until tomorrow when we get back together, remember, you are awesome. You are loved, you are needed, and without a doubt you are enough as you are. Just because you're trying to better yourself with education. Just because you're trying to learn new things doesn't mean you're not enough. You're just improving upon yourself at your own choice and decision. So remember, you are enough. You are loved and you are appreciated. Guys. Alright, until next time when we get together, don't forget. Don't Stop, Keep Chasing.

Phew, exhale, maybe we don't have to try so hard to be seen as great. What if chasing being seen as great takes us off course because we follow some blueprint to perceived greatness versus crafting our own paths to personal greatness. This episode explores how chasing being seen as great has its costs - where we run past truer selves, where we can't enjoy any win because we're too busy running after the next thing. And if you're Jessie Spano fans, stay until the very end of the episode.

Hey Seaver Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Show Me That Smile Again: A Growing Pains Podcast. Here’s the MIKE SEAVER Episode that a listener chose for the month of July. S416: Fortunate Son Airdate: February 22, 1989 In this episode Mike is tired of his job at the car wash. While playing video games with Ben at a neighborhood convenience store, he inquires about working there. The manager immediately hires him for the graveyard shift. The store has many minorities working there. When he asks his boss to be let off the graveyard shift, his boss complies. It makes him feel uncomfortable being that he just started there, and that his wish was only granted because he is white. So Mike sets out to prove his boss is prejudice. Also I look up the term Graveyard Shift, read some of the lyrics of the song “Fortunate Son” and talk about my 3rd Shift temp job stocking shelves at Kmart Thanksgiving night before Black Friday in 2006. My adventure with taking caffeine pills to stay awake. Apparently I learned nothing from Jessie Spano from Saved By The Bell. Check back in August you get to choose the CHRISSY SEAVER Episode I cover out of the two I have in mind. Have a great weekend!

Being that February’s theme here at FearLess is CHANGE, what better way to dive deep into the idea than to discuss one of the biggest changes that can occur in a business - breaking up with your business partner. A lot has happened for Jamie in the last month and in this episode, she’s sharing her story about the time - not so long ago - when she and her business partner, Danielle, sat down and came to a mutual agreement to end their partnership.   Jamie talks about the process, how planning at the beginning of the partnership made a huge difference in the end and how respect and communication were the keys to an amicable split. We can't forget the feelings! With such a big change, came a mix of emotions: fear, overwhelm, and excitement (a la Jessie Spano). via GIPHY Never fear, though, Mary helped Jamie through the process and managed to convince her data is sexy? It is! We swear! Mary discusses how tracking the proper data in any business will help you get a better understanding of what’s really going on. As a service-based business owner and being heavily referral based, Jamie was able to see what made the most sense to her and how the data shared was helping her. The numbers show you the proof you need - all thanks to a spreadsheet and data analysis from Mary! After discussing the data, it made Jamie feel she had control over a process that felt out of control at times. As you listen, you’ll realize that all this wonderful talk about data could really be another episode down the line - so stay tuned! Be sure to check back with us in two weeks, where we will have entered March and will tackle a new theme: VISIBILITY. P.s.
