She holds a Masters from HEC Paris and co-founded Medigo GmbH before joining NordPass in 2021.During her chat with Merle, Ieva broke down the topic of cybersecurity into easily digestible, actionable chunks:What's a data breach?A data breach occurs whenever confidential data is accessed and used in some way (disclosed, copied, altered, destroyed). Common malicious uses include trading the data on the darkweb, decrypting the data to demand a ransom payment, and identity theft. What's malware?Malware is any software developed with the express intent of causing harm. Examples include viruses, trojans, spyware, ransomware, etc. It can also completely take over a computer, putting the criminal in complete control.Common types of malware:Ransomware: type of malware that prevents users or organizations from accessing their files. Hackers demand payment to restore access.Adware: type of greyware (since it does not necessarily have to be malicious) that displays ads to certain users. These ads can be unwanted or malicious.Spyware: malware that secretly monitors and collects information about a user's activities or devices, usually as the first step before another type of attack.Another well-known type of cyberattack are phishing campaigns, in which a hacker pretends to be someone the user knows, or an entity that they trust, in order to get them to click on a malicious link, which can download malware or take the user to a fake website where sensitive information will be requested. On average, a cyberattack occurs every 14 seconds, and the cost of fixing it depends on how quickly the user notices it and how quickly they act. On average, users will take 204 days to notice a cyberattack and another 73 days to contain the breach. In order to prevent an attack, several components are necessary:Strong passwordsMultifactor authenticationLimiting access to accounts & regularly reviewing who has accessAnti-virus softwareRegular vulnerability assessmentsHackers target big and small companies alike, as well as both famous and anonymous people, so it's safest to start improving the cybersecurity of your professional and personal accounts now.The cover portrait was edited by www.smartportrait.io.

About Karolis Arbaciauskas: Karolis Arbaciauskas is the Head of Product & Business Development at NordPass, a password management solution and part of Nord Security, the world's leading cybersecurity company. He holds an MA in Economics from The Berlin School of Economics and Law and previously worked for companies like L'Oréal, Nordea and Danske Bank before joining NordPass in 2020. During his chat with Silvan, Karolis tried to dispel the myth that cybersecurity concerns are a milestone which ought only be available to developed scaleups — he thinks being safe online should be something which startups tackle from day one. He also provided insight into the main causes of data breaches, spoke about how cybersecurity and the dark web are connected and introduced the concept of Ransomware as a Service, which basically consists of more skilled hackers building and selling software that less skilled hackers can use to hack their victims. Stay Safe: Experts Warn About Dangers of Sharing Vacation Pics on Social Media

Cybersecurity experts give advice on how to stay safe and enjoy a vacation without putting your home and data at risk. According to cybersecurity experts, sharing too much information on social media while being away from home on holiday can make your property a perfect target for burglars. We've all been there, sipping an exotic drink by the pool miles away from our home and routine while taking dozens of pictures to capture the precious moment. As the saying goes - "pics or it didn't happen," so we're quick to post them on Facebook or Instagram for our friends to see how great we're doing. And, let's be honest, to brag a little bit. However, not many holidaymakers are aware that this social activity can get them in real trouble. Uploading pictures from the beach together with sharing other private material, such as holiday plans, countdowns, and plane tickets online, is a risky matter for a good reason. "When travelling, you want to have continuous access to the internet, but that's not always easy. Even if there's a coffee shop nearby with an open Wi-Fi network, you don't want to risk exposing your device to a network you're not sure is secure. That's why I'd recommend using mobile internet or eSIMs such as Saily in order to have a trustworthy connection and ensure that you don't need to use public Wi-Fi networks you don't trust to access the internet," says Vykintas Maknickas, head of product strategy at Nord Security. How can you stay safe? While a secure internet connection is important, experts note that there are other things to be mindful of when travelling: 1. Wait until you get home to post pictures from your holiday. It's better to hold off on posting things online while you're away. Don't let your followers know your home is empty at the moment. 2. Make sure your account settings are set to private. One of the most important things before posting anything online is to know who you're sharing your information with. Make sure that your account settings are set to private and your posts are visible to your friends only instead of everyone on the internet. 3. Be careful with free public Wi-Fi. Be extra cautious when connecting to public Wi-Fi. Coffee shops, supermarkets, and even school cafeterias offer unsecured Wi-Fi networks. Hackers can easily act as free Wi-Fi hotspots or steal data from unprotected networks. Have an eSIM and use your mobile data. 4. Never share personal information on social media. Remove personal details, such as home address and telephone number, from your profile pages because they can be easily accessible to anyone. Don't make status updates sharing your location. And never ever post photos of your passport, plane tickets, or any other documents. 5. Use a reliable eSIM service. An eSIM like Saily not only ensures a stable and secure internet connection but also helps you avoid risky public Wi-Fi networks. With Saily, you can access mobile data plans worldwide, keeping your online activities safe and private no matter where you are.

Saily - a new global eSIM - is now available to access and use while traveling. The latest service by the NordVPN team offers affordable prices and a wide range of plans to ensure a seamless and effortless global internet connection. "After receiving extensive user feedback, we have noticed that many of our customers prefer using NordVPN while travelling. At Nord Security, we understand the value of affordable, user-friendly, and reliable technology, so we decided to make travelling even more convenient. That's why we're thrilled to present Saily - an app that can save time and money, making any travel carefree," says Vykintas Maknickas, head of product strategy at Nord Security. Affordable, simple, and accessible 24/7 Activating Saily is very easy because it can be done remotely. This simplifies the process of connecting to a local mobile network operator and even allows the user to switch between carriers without changing their physical SIM card as soon as they land in a new country. Saily is intuitive and easy to use. However, in case of any issues, users will be able to contact 24/7 customer support. Saily's support service will ensure that users can activate their eSIM quickly and easily, no matter where they are in the world as well as get help with other questions while using Saily. Saily offers several flexible data plans to suit everyone's needs. Users have the option to select weekly or monthly plans, ranging from 1 to 20 gigabytes in more than 150 countries. The most convenient way to stay connected Adopting the eSIM card offers greater convenience, flexibility, and efficiency in managing mobile connections. An eSIM allows travellers and remote workers to connect to the internet worldwide and reduces roaming charges. It is worth noting that a large number of US consumers already use eSIM services on a daily basis. According to recent studies, 40% of individuals have experienced a breach in their online security while accessing public Wi-Fi networks while travelling. "Digitalization changed the world completely. Travel has changed and increased in frequency and distance. Especially when traveling, privacy and security should be remembered. It's not safe to use an open Wi-Fi network from coffee shops. Users don't need to look for public Wi-Fi anymore or be afraid of roaming charges," says Vykintas Maknickas, head of product strategy at Nord Security.

NordVPN's New Feature Meshnet Allows Direct Connection To Other Devices

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

NordVPN has announced a brand new feature called Meshnet, which will allow users to connect directly to other devices instead of routing their traffic through a VPN server, solidifying the company's stance as an industry leader. “Whereas a traditional NordVPN connection redirects your internet traffic through servers, Meshnet lets you create your own NordVPN server, made up of only your own or your friends' devices, regardless of their location. All that's needed is a NordVPN subscription,” says Vykintas Maknickas, product strategist at NordVPN. Meshnet opens up endless new possibilities for how you can utilize NordVPN, but main use cases can be divided into three categories: File sharing Meshnet overcomes location limitations and allows users to send or receive files from their family members, friends, or colleagues with ease. Users no longer need to host their work projects on a server in order to make it accessible to other team members or clients – just give them access through NordVPN. The new feature requires two-way consent, so users never have to put their privacy at risk. Gaming Meshnet works as a virtual Local Area Network (LAN), so users can play multiplayer games with their friends without needing any LAN cables. Regardless if they live in a different neighbourhood or a different country, with Meshnet, users can all connect to the same server from various locations and enjoy their time together. Internet traffic routing With Meshnet enabled, users on holiday can route their traffic through a laptop left at home, allowing them to browse the internet with their own IP address. Whereas a regular NordVPN service routes your internet traffic through VPN servers, in the meantime changing your IP address to that of the server, Meshnet lets you create your own NordVPN server through your own or your friends' devices, no matter where they are in the world. “This feature release is a gamechanger and will truly transform how our users utilize NordVPN. Our product team has been working relentlessly for the past few years, which really began with the development of our flagship technology — NordLynx — the bedrock behind Meshnet that allows us to provide amplified privacy solutions without sacrificing industry-leading speed,” says Vykintas Maknickas, product strategist at NordVPN. To utilize Meshnet, users need to update their NordVPN app and make sure they are connected via the NordLynx protocol, then just turn it on in the NordVPN app and link up to 10 personal or and 50 external devices. More detailed instructions can be found here. NordVPN is part of Nord Security. Nord Security is moving with confidence towards becoming an all-around cybersecurity solution. Apart from NordVPN, the cybersecurity company is home to three other market-leading products: NordPass, a next-generation password manager; NordLocker, an encrypted cloud storage solution; and NordLayer, an advanced network access security solution for businesses. More about Meshnet:/ Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS devices can route internet traffic through other devices, but only Windows and Linux devices permit traffic routing through them.

Season 9 ends at the beginning — with the man who changed Hollywood forever and wrote the blueprint for A16Z's upending of Silicon Valley a generation later, Michael Ovitz and his “Dream Factory”, Creative Artists Agency. From Jurassic Park to Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Goodfellas, Rain Man, ER, and even the Coca-Cola polar bears... almost nothing in 80s and 90s pop culture didn't have CAA's stamp on it. Speaking of dreams, this episode was totally one for us, and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it!! Big news!! All back catalog LP Show episodes are now free and available to anyone! You can follow our new public LP Show feed here. It's already chock-full of 60+ great episodes like our VC Fundamentals series, interviews with founders of top early-stage startups, and master classes on pricing, marketplaces, SaaS investing and many more topics. Happy listening and happy holidays to everyone!! Sponsors: Thank you to our presenting sponsor for all of Season 9, Pilot.com! Pilot takes care of startups' bookkeeping, tax and CFO services so busy founders can focus on what matters. Pilot is in fact backed by Bezos himself, along with other all-star investors including Sequoia, Index, and Stripe. We tell the definitive (audio!) story behind FTX's "speed run" — how this upstart crypto exchange became the fastest company in history to reach a $25B valuation, just two years after founding. And to do so we're joined by not one but TWO of the very best people in the world to help: FTX's wunderkind CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, and special guest host Mario Gabriele from The Generalist, who Sam gave extensive access to FTX's internal data, employees, and investors for his canonical 36,000 word trilogy on the company this past summer. We cover it all — from the "$20m/day" trade that started everything, to Tom Brady & Gisele, to Sam testifying last week in front of Congress. Don't blink or you might miss it! We bring the epic saga of Standard Oil and John D.
