In this Showdown episode, Caroline and Conor are headed over the rainbow as they compare the two Disney entries to the Wonderful World of Oz: 1985's Return to Oz and 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful. While both films offer new stories, characters, and designs to the Oz pantheon, how well do they actually capture the magic of one of the greatest fantasy worlds ever imagined? How does an insomniac Dorothy and a head-stealing princess stack up against the powerful witches of Oz and James Franco? Dwarfism is a genetic or medical condition that allows a person to be short in stature. We may look at these individuals and see them as different, treat them differently. Christophe Zajac-Denek, host of the podcast I'm Kinda a Big Deal, joins us in the studio this week to discuss his life as a dwarf and how he has overcome multiple surgeries to become a successful competitive surfer, an actor, and a podcaster. His podcast is about the unique lives of people affected by dwarfism. He interviews little people and we talk about the successes, the struggles, the funny, and the real day-to-day experiences we, as little people, face. His goal is to build a bridge between little people and the average height world. He reminds us that regardless of our size, color, or any other discriminatory characteristic, we can accomplish anything we'd like. His laughter and stick-to-it-ness will inspire you to keep focusing on your goals, regardless of what stands in your way.He was born with Cartlidge Hair Hypoplasia and started seeing a dwarfism specialist at age 2. He's had 2 reconstructive leg surgeries (ages 6, 16) and a spinal fusion (age 17, fused from T1-L4). I'm 4'4" tall. Went to college at Michigan State University.Began working as a TV producer for local community stations.Started a rock band in which I played drums. We toured the US and Europe for 6 years. Lots of press in Detroit and opened for Iggy Pop, Motion City Soundtrack, My Chemical Romance, Ok GO, and more.Christophe left the band and moved to Hollywood to pursue music and ended up getting work in the acting/film industry as an actor/stuntman for various productions.Notable productions I've worked on: Twin Peaks, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Oz: The Great And Powerful, Fresh Off The Boat, My Dinner With Herve, Insidious 4.Listen to Christophe's podcast here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/im-kind-of-a-big-deal/id1484411273To learn more about dwarfism, check out this site: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dwarfism/symptoms-causes/syc-20371969Time Stamps: 1:12 - Intro3:27 - Little people have to grow up before anyone else8:25 - How tall is Christophe?9:15 - Friendships growing up11:20 - Encountering people in the wild14:08 - Children have no judgment15:51 - Adult life and self-confidence20:27 - Educate/re-educate parents21:47 - I'm Kinda a Big Deal24:01 - The 'E' words26:49 - Judge someone based on their character28:35 - Ally, Christophe's special guest30:05 - Punam's Freshman story32:24 - Christophe, the drummer35:56 - Parting words of wisdomSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/user?u=31725704)

The big moment has arrived for our group to finally receive brains (pins and needles), a heart (a silken sack of sawdust), and courage (a questionable green liquid.. yikes?) as the Great Humbug performs his utmost wizardry to deliver some great PR for his image. Tara and EmKay cozy up on a rainy day to question their relationships with external/internal validation, the beauty of "misaligned paths leading you closer to your truth," and personal journeys to believe in their very own magic. Plus, Tara finally watched Oz The Great and Powerful and has some thoughts. #prioritiesShow Notes:Ozma of Oz by L. Welcome to Episode 15! In this episode, I chat with my friend Lorren Cackowski. I met Lorren in Michigan when we were both hired to play munchkins on the Disney film Oz: The Great And Powerful. She’s an incredibly strong-willed individual who doesn’t let any obstacle stand in her way. At 4 feet tall, she received a lot of attention from being prom queen to working as a bikini-clad bartender at a dive bar in Detroit, to finding her way to Vegas. Lorren has always left her mark and maintained a positive attitude through all of the ups and downs. It should just be said that people can be jerks sometimes. Please enjoy my conversation with Lorren Cackowski. In Ausgabe #12 von Movie Watchdogs reden die drei mittelalten Nerds Tim, Timo & Christian in epischen zwei Stunden über »A Good Day To Die Hard«, »Hansel & Gretel: Witchhunter«, »Lincoln« und »Wreck-It Ralph«. In Ausgabe #12 von Movie Watchdogs reden die drei mittelalten Nerds Tim, Timo & Christian in epischen zwei Stunden über »A Good Day To Die Hard«, »Hansel & Gretel: Witchhunter«, »Lincoln« und »Wreck-It Ralph«. JACKIE'S VIDA LOCA Starring: JACKIE DOLLAR Today's Guest: SIMONE PORTER Co-Songwriter, "Almost Home" (With Mariah Carey) Los Angeles native, Simone Porter is the beautiful, expressive and inspired songwriter who co-wrote “Almost Home” with Mariah Carey for Disney's OZ: The Great & Powerful. Right around the time when she would have been enraptured by the original Wizard of Oz, she started writing poetry at the age of 5. She loved music and loved to sing. Her idol was Mariah Carey. “But it kind of took me a long time to figure it all out and decide that I would be a good songwriter,” she says. She thought that if she wasn't super passionate about playing an instrument – she could never be a songwriter. But, creating extraordinary music was in Simone's DNA. Her grandfather composed songs for the greatest music legends including Frank Sinatra. Hola Locos! Join Jackie and her Latina Jewish comedy diva style on her new show Jackie's Vida Loca. You'll crack up with her unique way of looking at life, culture and interviewing celebrity guests.
