One week after the Channukah massacre at Bondi Beach in Australia, which left 15 innocent civilians killed, including a 10 year old girl named Matilda, and Chabad Rabbi, Eli Schlanger, and over 40 people injured, Alan Skorski interviewed Robert Gregory, CEO of the Australian Jewish Association. There were no punches pulled during the interview as Gregory put the blame squarely on the shoulders of Australian PM, Tony Albanese. "His apologies and insincere condolences are empty and too late!" Ever since the Hamas slaughter of over 1200 people in Israel on October 7, 2023, Islamist-inspired violent antisemitism has skyrocketed, while the government turned a blind eye. Defacement of another with Nazi symbols and pro-Palestine graffiti — A Jewish childcare center set on fire — Three Jewish businesses torched — The former home of a prominent Jewish leader sprayed with graffiti — Cars defaced and windows smashed in areas where Jews live During the interview, Skorski and Gregory talked about reports from Sky News Australia giving the history of radical Islamist terrorism taking place in Australia, as the government made it policy to keep appeasing them. Even before October 7, Australia was seen as a welcoming country to people who came from dangerous countries with very anti-western values: On December 15, 2014, Man Monis, an Iranian refugee, took hostages at the Lindt chocolate café, killing 2. On June 5, 2017, Yacqub Khayre, a Somalian refugee, murdered a receptionist and held hostages at the Buckingham International Serviced apartments. And following October 7, 2023, The government issued visas to 3000 refugees from Gaza, and was welcomed at the airport by Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke. "For too long," said Gregory, "the government of Tony Albanese ignored the warning signs and ignored the pleas from the Jewish community about the threats they were facing.” Like in America, under the Biden Administration, the leftist Australian government constantly tried to draw parallels between antisemitism and Islamophobia, even creating a government agency to combat both. To date, there are no examples of anti-Muslim violence having occurred in Australia. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Purdue University. Jack later went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management at Pepperdine University. After graduating from Purdue University, Jack worked for a brief period at General Motors. However, Jack felt the call of his country and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant. Jack then went off to flight training to become a Marine Aviator. Jack’s tenacity and courage were quickly demonstrated as a combat aviator in Vietnam. Arriving in November 1968, Jack flew over 600 combat missions. A highly decorated veteran, Jack is the recipient of four Distinguished Flying Crosses, 33 Air Medals, Navy Commendation Medal (with combat V), a host of campaign medals and, most recently, the Legion of Merit for Service to His Country. Returning from Vietnam, Jack attended the United States Naval Test Pilot School, testing aircraft for the United States military. Subsequently, he was the aide-de-camp for a Two Star General. He left active duty as a Marine Captain in 1977. Jack remained active in the service of his country by staying in the Marine Corps Reserves and achieved the rank of Colonel. He was called back to active duty for Desert Shield where he served as a Harrier Instructor Pilot. Jack continued to play an important role in the defense of his country as a key person in the Boeing Company (previously McDonnell Douglas). Jack became a test pilot at Boeing Company in January 1978. He tested virtually every type of U.S. fighter aircraft as well as two Russian fighters, accumulating over 10,000 flight hours. He is also the nation’s most experienced VSTOL pilot. In January 2004, he retired from his position as Chief Pilot-Production Test with Boeing Company where he was responsible for all production activities. Jack is actively involved in his church where he is a deacon. He was the parliamentarian for the Second Congressional District Caucus in 1996 and 2008. He is also a member of the following organizations: V.F.W.; American Legion; National Aeronautical Association; Association of Naval Aviation; Marine Corps League; Vietnam Veterans; National Association of Parliamentarians; and The Society of Experimental Test Pilots. Jack was also on the Boeing Management Club Board of Directors. He was the Chief Test Pilot for Production at the Boeing Company from 1996 until 2004. Jack was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002. He served as president of the largest freshman class in the history of the state of Missouri. He was Chairman of the Veterans Committee, Chairman of the Joint Committee On Terrorism, Bioterrorism, and Homeland Security; and he was a member of the Appropriations - Public Safety and Corrections and Ways and Means Committees. Jack has been married for 57 years to the former Arleen Henderlong. They have three children and eight grandchildren. Jack is the recipient of the National Aeronautic Association’s “Elder Statesman of Aviation for 2004” Award. He received the Aviation Week and Space Technology 1999 Laurels Award. He also received the “Legislator of the Year Award” from the Missouri Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars in June 2003, 2005, and 2006 and the “Legislator of the Year Award” from the American Legion in 2004. He received the 2006 Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture Award. He also received the National Aide-de- Camp award from the National Commander of the National VFW. In 1981, the UN established the International Day of Peace to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace. In a time when both the influence of multilateral institutions like the UN is being questioned, and the peace we need is in rapidly shortening supply as violence becomes the norm, my guest this week is doing amazing work with communities to find more peaceful paths through questions of conflict resolution by taking a systemic and complexity-informed approach. How we engage our young people in responding peacefully to the inevitable conflict they experience in their own lives feels like a critical part of what we do as educators, but so is being open to question the way in which violence and harm can also be normalised by the systems in which we live and work. On Sunday 23 October 1642, at Edgehill during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, Parliament and the Royalists met on the field of battle. In an inconclusive engagement, both sides left the field largely intact, but one man's name would be known throughout England. Prince Rupert of the Rhine led a stunning cavalry charge on the King's right flank, breaking through the Parliamentarians. But, as with so many cavalry advances, the thrill got the better of him and he pressed his attack too far, thus threatening the infantry.
