This week, we're scratching The Itch to rebel! AI art is trash, and you shouldn't use it. But if you put on a show as fun as this year's Pointfest, we'll forgive you. Mostly. The whole team made it to see 311 headline a lineup that also featured The Urge, Toadies, Finger Eleven, Sick Puppies, Alien Ant Farm, and our boys Oxymorrons and Tree One Four! Hear about the bands who impressed, The Point's second faux pas, and what legendary collaboration we finally got to see live! Plus, Aaron watches Josh Katz of Badflower try to burp, and KC and Dan celebrate Maynard James Keenan's 61st birthday by politely enduring Puscifer to get to Primus and A Perfect Circle! Enjoy. If you like what you hear, you can hear more of us every Sunday night broadcasting rock to the masses from 6-9pm CST on KCLC-FM. If you're not in the St. Louis area, you can stream the show from 891thewood.com, TuneIn, Radio.net, and OnlineRadioBox! And if you have the itch to hear some of the best new tracks in rock, follow our New Rock Roundup playlist! This week, we're scratching The Itch for bass! Emma Anzai, co-founder of Sick Puppies and more recent addition to Evanescence, joins us to discuss Wave the Bull, Sick Puppies' first new album in nine years. We discuss the prominence of her bass guitar in some of the tracks, the Beastie Boys influence in their recent single "Going Places," their upcoming tour with Metallica, handling jet lag when traveling from Australia to basically anywhere else in the world, and an interaction with a certain magnifiscent smelling Itch guest while on tour with Halestorm. Enjoy. If you like what you hear, you can hear more of us every Sunday night broadcasting rock to the masses from 6-9pm CST on KCLC-FM.
You may know Shimone Moore as the lead singer of Sick Puppies during the Sick Puppies incredibly successful run in the early 2010s. After a falling out between him and Sick Puppies bassist Emma Anzai he left the band almost a decade ago and has since decided to go solo under jus the name Shim. After a solo album in 2018 and a couple of singles since, he and his bassist / musical soulmate Jayme Lewis are at again, and have a lot planned for the new year. They both stopped by my studio to crank up some tunes and talk the talk. This episode of Cutter's Rockcast also includes an exclusive song from Shim and Jayme that hasn't been heard outside of their circle before, it's a song that was written on the fly after binging Letterkenny and it's not for the faint of heart, trigger warning if you're a bit sensitive to outlandish comedic subject manners. The rest of the conversation is pretty normal, or at least as normal as it can be for Shim.
Emma Anzai, known for her dynamic bass playing with both Sick Puppies and, more recently, Evanescence, is our guest for this month's podcast.
Download The Sound 228 Radio app --> Apple or Android We talk with Shim, the original vocalist for the Sick Puppies. Nina Bergman is in the newly released feature film titled "Cold Meat" that stars her and Allen Leech (The Imitation Game, Bohemian Rhapsody, Downton Abbey) The movie was available in select theaters and also premiered in February online through KINO and "Cold Meat" is now available on demand at these outlets: https://geni.us/COLDMEAT . Nina Bergman is an actress, singer, songwriter and model. She was born in Denmark and is the granddaughter of Russia's greatest actor, Pavel Kadochnikov. Nina spent her early childhood traveling around Europe with her Russian Gypsy grandparents. At 14, she received a scholarship to the musical theatre school Urdang Academy in London. A year later, she found herself in Moscow attending the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre. From there, she moved to New York City and was accepted at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. At that time, she got her first agent and began booking various jobs in plays, movies, commercials, and modeling. She also started singing in underground bands. Being an adrenaline junkie, she found herself making extra money as an amateur boxer which later on helped her book movies like "The Car," a remake by Universal Pictures, and the franchise "DOOM" movie also with Universal Pictures. Her other work includes the starring role of Marie in "Hell Hath No Fury," a Jesse V Johnson movie, playing a French resistance fighter, and she played the lead role of "GG," who was based on a 90s goth singer in the film "Carpe Noctem," which was directed by Gene Blalock. In addition to film, she also played video game characters like "Battery" from "Call Of Duty." She has two anticipated movies coming out this year; "Chief Of Station," starring Aaron Eckhard, and "Cold Meat," starring Nina and Allen Leech, which screened at Fright Fest in London and will be in theaters later this year. Her performance in "Assassin X" earned her the Honorable Mention Award for Best Actress from the AOF International Film Festival for her role as the notorious Trinidad. She starred as "Wonder Woman," directed by Jesse V Johnson, which stars Timothy V Murphy and Marina Sirtis. She also played a cold-hearted killer in "The Wayshower," with Peter Stormare and Eric Roberts, and she starred in "Know New Art," a Newport Beach Film Festival project by the Freise Brothers and Biscuit Filmworks. Her other work includes playing the lead opposite actors like John Malkovich, David Arquette, Vivica Fox, and Jesse Metcalfe. She's been featured in numerous skits on The Late Late Show with James Corden and Craig Ferguson, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and has hosted various shows like E! Entertainment, Fuse, and The Grammys as a Trophy Presenter. Her reality show credits include Battleground Earth with Tommy Lee and Ludacris and Hollywoodfruer, the Danish acclaimed TV show. A passion for the stage drew her back to her roots as she performed in various plays such as "The Cherry Orchard" with A Noise Within, and her favorite, the portrayal of Marlene Dietrich in "Garbo's Cuban Lover" with the Macha Theatre. Her theatrical agent introduced her to Paul Anka, who shortly after began managing her music career and helped her sign a six-album contract with Warner Bros. Record by their President Rob Cavallo. They called her new solo project "N.I.N.A." which led to her last band, "Letters From The Fire." Nina worked on soundtracks for Lionsgate Films, singing the theme song for "Catacombs," "Repo the Genetic Opera," and "Sharknado". She sang the end title song in "Black Limousine" and was the voice on the soundtrack for "All About Her." Additionally, she performed live for the World Series and the NCAA College Football Season. Her work in music videos includes a starring role in Gnarls Barkley's video "Gone Daddy Gone," Sick Puppies video "All the Same," and Trey Songz "Foreigner". She has been seen in over 50 commercials and hundreds of print campaigns, ranging from La Perla to Apple Computer, Sprite, Nike, and her well-known Nature Valley and Dos Equis with the Most Interesting Man in the World. Her most recent commercial campaign is the Carls Jr. Beyond Meat and her notorious "Balls Commercial" for Saxx Underwear, where she was the spokesperson. Along with her career, Nina is an avid animal rights activist with an active voice for the ethical treatment of our companions. The life-long vegan champion for animals continues to participate in numerous charities. #ColdMeatMovie #NinaBergman #AllenLeech #FeatureFilm #ActressLife #SingerSongwriter #Modeling #DenmarkBorn #RussianHeritage #BolshoiTheatre #NYUTisch #UndergroundBands #AmateurBoxer #TheCarRemake #DOOMMovie #HellHathNoFury #CarpeNoctemFilm #CallOfDutyBattery #ChiefOfStation #FrightFestLondon #AssassinXMovie #WonderWomanFilm #TheWayshower #KnowNewArt #LateLateShow #TonightShow #EEntertainment #FuseTV #GrammysPresenter #BattlegroundEarth #Hollywoodfruer #TheCherryOrchard #MarleneDietrich #NINAMusic #LettersFromTheFire #LionsgateSoundtracks #AnimalRightsActivist

What. A week. Of news. Before we get into today's topics, we wanted to acknowledge the violence that occurred on the Strip yesterday: Six people were injured and two died in a mass stabbing attack near Las Vegas Blvd. and Sands. It's a lot to process and the story is still developing, so we'll be coming back to it next week. In the meantime, we're got plenty more news to discuss today. Vogue is joined by Dayvid and special guest Geoff Carter, Senior Editor at the Las Vegas Weekly, and they're tackling: 1. The latest news about the Rhodes development abutting Red Rock Canyon (and what some sources are getting wrong about it) 2. Sad puppies at the Animal Foundation! Or at least, the ups and downs of a nonprofit that's now facing a wave of seriously sick pups 3. First Friday's 20th birthday (as Vogue puts it, it's not quite old enough to drink yet) — and Geoff's fantastic retrospective in the Weekly about the evolution of First Friday, for better, worse, and somewhere in between What are your thoughts on the week's news? Call or text us at 702-514-0719, or find us on Twitter @CityCastVegas Want more Vegas news? Make sure to sign up for our morning newsletter at lasvegas.citycast.fm/newsletter! Chip delights everyone by regaling them of tales of his dog fighting days, when his brave litter of puppies would try to make Daddy proud.
Shim and Brandon continue to discuss Temple of the Dog, while also getting sidetracked on a variety of topics, including other band names Shim and Sick Puppies toyed with.
The MESSER Machine is fired up once again with another positive energy-driven song, “Hope In This World.” “Hope In This World” is the newest creation from this modern rock power house known for their catchy hooks and high energy live performances. With 3 top 25 active rock singles, MESSER is poised to raise the bar even higher. Re-energized and focused, MESSER is ready to deliver an experience that goes beyond the music. "Our new single was born out of the pandemic. We couldn't just sit here and do nothing. We have a platform and we are compelled to use it for good" says the band. They continue, "One of the most powerful things you can give someone is hope. We live in a world more divided than ever, making it hard to see a way for us to find a place of peace and harmony.'Hope In This World' is a song about bridging the gap between us that seems to be growing every day. The core message of this song is helping people find hope despite the negativity. It's easy to get trapped in boxes of belief and confusion. This song is about the lifeline we cling to for change, the light at the end of the tunnel." Be a part of the Machine and help us find some Hope In This World. Messer continued their momentum from their breakout year with the release of "Simple Man", the 3rd single and video from their self-titled debut album, which bowed at #3 on the Soundscan New Artist chart and was named "New and Noteworthy" at iTunes and Amazon Music. The Dallas, Texas based band had a banner year in 2018 with first single “Make This Life” reaching #25 on the Active Rock radio charts, and second single "Save Myself" also made it into the Top 30 - the only truly independent act to do so. "Simple Man" peaked at #23 on the Active Rock charts, and is the highest charting single for the band to date. It garnered attention throughout the rock world with spots on key Hard Rock playlists @ Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora Radio, Google Play Music, Youtube and Slacker Radio. The band has received accolades @ Loudwire, AXS, Alternative Press, Revolver, New Noise, Pure Grain Audio, and more. The band was relentless touring hard in 2019, opening for Pop Evil, Scott Stapp, and headlining their own tour. Messer played more than 250 shows in 2019, including a 40-city sold out tour with RED and Lacey Sturm. The band was personally invited by Kevin Lyman to play the Texas leg of the final Vans Warped Tour. The band's cutting-edge modern rock sound was born through serendipitous connections in the thriving Deep Ellum music scene of Dallas, an area that has given rise to iconic Hard Rock and Metal bands like Pantera, Drowning Pool, Hell Yeah, and King's X. The band grew their fan base locally, and began to branch out regionally and nationally, opening for notable bands such as Sick Puppies, Candlebox, Hinder, Vince Neil, Black Stone Cherry, Drowning Pool, Metallica, Scott Stapp Of Creed, and Avenged Sevenfold, among others. It was on one of these tours that the band caught the attention of Los Angeles based writer/producer, Chad Gendason. The band felt an immediate camaraderie with Chad and a lasting bond was made. Messer started writing with Chad, and their first collaboration became "Simple Man". Fan favorite "Whiskey" soon followed and the songs started to flow into what would become their self-titled debut album "Messer". The album was mixed by Ben Grosse (Marilyn Manson, Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed) and mastered by Tom Baker (Papa Roach, David Bowie, Motley Crue).

Bakotunes welcomes (now former) guitarist/vocalist Shimon Moore of Australian alt-rockers, Sick Puppies! Information: mattomunoz@gmail.com
You hear it again and again. When one door closes, another one opens. However, it‟s true – especially in the case of Sick Puppies. Weathering and persevering through potentially life-changing events, the gold-selling, chart-topping Los Angeles-based and Australian-bred hard rock outfit knew one thing. They were going to make more music as Sick Puppies. “There was no question” affirms Emma. “We had no doubt that we wanted to continue. Mark and I got together and basically said, „first and foremost, we love music. We love this band and our fans, and we have put so much into it, and we are not done and want to take it further.‟ In order to do that, we needed to find the right member.” Instead, the “right member” found them. With stints in several bands under his belt, Texas-born singer and guitarist Bryan Scott reached out to Emma via Facebook within days of the announcement. He sent her a video of himself performing, and she swiftly replied. “Both Mark and I knew he was the guy right away – he was cool and he sounded great. It was a natural progression. We were totally on to something” said Emma “Something just overwhelmed me,” admits Bryan. “I had a feeling that I needed to reach out. They needed a singer and guitarist and that‟s what I am. I had always loved their music and as soon as I saw the post, I went home and immediately sent Emma a message. We clicked right off the bat. Music is in their blood – it‟s who they are. They live and breathe it every day. I‟m the same way.” Following the first dinner together at a Los Angeles burger spot, they hit the rehearsal studio together and began jamming. After nailing numerous favorites from the Sick Puppies catalog, they started writing new material over the next several months. 2013‟s Connect saw the band embrace a more experimental side. “On the last album, a lot of ideas came from many different places, but our core is the rock and that is what we love!” Mark says on this new album, we‟re giving fans what they want, that classic Sick Puppies sound.” “I think fans will enjoy the resurgence of the heaviness,” smiles Emma. “We love that, so we went all the way with it.” The group teamed up with producer and songwriter Mark Holman [Three Days Grace, Red, Shinedown, Halestorm, The Struts], to start working on their fourth full-length album. Recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles during 2015, the new music reflects the group‟s, incendiary interplay between Emma, Bryan & Mark. “We were actually supposed to work with Mark Holman before, but it never materialized for whatever reason,” Emma continues. “It was the right moment in time, and he was the perfect producer to bring out the emotion in these songs.” Locked and loaded with a muscular riff and booming percussion, “Stick To Your Guns” the band‟s first single announces the band‟s return with a literal bang. Bryan‟s vocals careen from hypnotic to heavy as an arena-size refrain takes hold. “You have to push regardless of what anyone tells you,” he says. “This was a big thing for us. You can pray, hope, or wish for something to happen, but at the end of the day, you have to “stick to your guns”, go out there, and believe. The song is meant to em- power.” Then, there‟s the epic “Where Do I Begin,” which spotlights Emma and Bryan‟s impressive harmonies in the chorus. For lyrical inspiration, the musicians actually turned to the diehard collective Sick Puppies World Crew. “We looked on their Facebook and read everything,” Emma recalls. “We saw that everyone shared a lot in common, and it was quite touching. We grabbed a few descriptive words and came across this theme. A lot of people out there feel like they‟re missing out. They hear things like, „You can do it when you‟re ready.‟ I think, „What‟s ready?‟ If someone‟s going to wait to be ready, they might wait their whole lives. It‟s about struggling with that and making a move.” With its gnashing chant and pummeling groove “Let Me Live” introduced the album during the first teaser video—which arrived to palpable audience fervor. Meanwhile, “Walls” sees Emma‟s vocals take center stage with gorgeously haunting delivery. “It describes the painful feelings that come when a friend, family member, or someone you‟re very close to changes, disappoints, disappears, or drifts away,” she sighs. “It‟s just a snapshot of what I was feeling at that point in time.” That kind of honesty has solidified a bond between the Sick Puppies and their fans since day one. To date, their breakout second full-length Tri-Polar has sold more than 500K albums, yielding 2 million single sales including the gold-certified “You’re Going Down” as well as rock smashes “Maybe” “Riptide,” and “Odd One.” “All The Same” the band‟s first hit single from their debut album, “Dressed Up As Life” became the soundtrack for the viral video “Free Hugs” campaign racking up tens of mil-lions of online views and saw them appear on Oprah, 60 Minutes, CNN, Good Morning America, and The Tonight Show. 2013‟s Connect earned the band its highest Billboard Top 200 debut at #17 and yielded two top 10 singles at rock radio peaking at #2. Along the way, the trio played alongside the world‟s biggest bands from Muse, The Killers, Deftones, Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, Incubus to Tool. Now, their message is more powerful than ever. “When people hear this, I want them to take away a feeling of new life, new passion, and new excitement from this band,” Emma leaves off. “Mark and I love what we do. We were going to forge ahead no matter what. We found the perfect guy, and we‟re excited about this next chapter.”
Speaking with Emma from Sick Puppies about doing press, touring as a female in a rock band, and more!
