Sean, our favorite documentarian, is heavy-handed with his interviews in his attempt to bring Ben and Felicity together for a happy ending for Docuventary. Ben continues to be defensive. Felicity continues to deny feelings for Ben – until the final moments? Maybe? It's time for a Sadie Hawkins dance fundraiser for the student government elections. Julie asks Noel to go as friends (?), Felicity asks Greg, Pam asks Ben, and Elena asks Tracy. The Elena and Tracy cat and mouse game resumes, because Tracy already agreed to go to the dance with B-minus Laurie. Greg asks Felicity to be his campaign manager as he runs for Student Council President. The flames of Ben's contempt for Greg are fanned. Meanwhile, Leila and Richard also put their hats in the ring for President. Felicity discovers that she disagrees with Greg's entire platform and agrees with Leila's, then ends up stepping in for Leila when she backs out of the race! When a career placement test produces “stockbroker” as a result for Ben, Dr. Pavone sets up an internship for him. The internship ends up being a glorified babysitter job when his boss pawns off his kid on Ben. Ben has a breakthrough experience with the kid playing basketball, but the kid gets injured on the court, and Ben rushes him to the health center where Felicity gets a first-hand look at responsible Ben. Sydney Hurd was nominated as a Beck's Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court. Sydney's favorite part about high school sports is the family atmosphere that it has created. She loves how sports bring her and her friends closer. Growing up with two brothers Sydney has developed a competitive personality, but that doesn't keep her from having fun on the court. To Sydney, agriculture is a way of life. It's waking up early, staying up late and going to work no matter what the weather conditions are. Agriculture has taught her many life lessons such as time management, responsibility, and discipline. Sydney is Student Council President, Vice President of her class, FFA President, and is involved in basketball, volleyball, golf, dance, 4-H, and FCA. She also helps with various charity events in her community. Once Sydney graduates, she plans to attend Iowa State University and major in agriculture. Abel Liu wasn't planning on getting involved in Student Council when he started at UVA. But when he got here, he was excited about student self-governance and the opportunity to make a difference for his peers. Then COVID hit and he got that opportunity. Even before Abel was elected president, he was involved in lobbying for a credit/no credit option for students during the height of the pandemic in Charlottesville. Abel now serves as UVA's first ever Chinese-American Student Council President and the first University Student Council President in America to be transgender at the time of their election. In this interview, he talks about why he choose to make a cross-country move for college and some of his proudest accomplishments from his four years on Student Council.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Darrese, one of our 12th grade Champions who has attended Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA) for the past 5 years. She achieved quite the hootworthy honor and award, as being selected as one of two delegates in the state of Georgia to participate in the United States Senate Youth Program. She was hesitant to apply after not being selected for the Governor's Honors Program the year before, but following a timely phone call from her Dual Enrollment Counselor, Ms. Debrody, who encouraged her to apply, Darrese decided to go for it! She could not believe she was picked, but she credits her involvement in many clubs at GCA including being Student Council President and her passion for social activism during the interview process, as landing her a spot in the program. The Senate Youth Program Washington Week event typically takes place in Washington, D.C., but last year and this year, the event was virtual over Zoom. Even though it was not in-person, Darrese enjoyed the online sessions where she heard from many different past and present government officials including their experiences and what they would do differently. She mentioned that every group was assigned a military mentor who she connected with and appreciated the entire time. After the talks, the participating delegates would reflect on the sessions together and share their different perspectives. The most important thing that she took away from the experience was the power of unity. She noticed that even though the delegates came from different backgrounds, they were all together; they focused more on how they could help each other and what brought them together. She realized that their differences disappeared. She shared that the most rewarding thing from the experience—other than the 10,000 dollar scholarship and being selected as one of two people in Georgia—was getting to know the delegates. She knows that these people could be the future politicians of America, and who knows how these connections could impact her future. As a busy person, what she enjoys most about being a student at GCA is the convenience. She loves how she can take her laptop anywhere and attend class anywhere. If she could give advice to new students, she would tell them to find their balance between school and life outside school. She would also tell them to join clubs at GCA; this is where students can meet people, form relationships, serve their community, and gain extracurricular experience. Darrese mentioned she would like to pursue a Musical Theater Major, but she has yet to decide on which college to attend because she has four acceptances! We are super proud of Darrese and her hootworthy achievement participating in the US Senate Youth Program. You can find more information about the program here. Keep soaring, Darrese!

As we round out the end of the year, we reflect on the year and paint the picture for what we would like the New Year to hold. As Maya Angelou has brilliantly stated: "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better I do better." Gianna was featured in Episode #22: What are you grateful for? and I've commissioned her again for this special year-end episode. I shared my "why" in Episode #22. I recalled something in the beginning of the year and that I had completely forgotten which is the impetus of this very show. It reminds me of a quote by Mark Twain: "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." It's no surprise that the top episode of the year was Episode #19: Culture: Meet People Where They Are, with my guest, Craig Loundas. My friend Craig reminds us that "it's okay not to be okay" and to meet our co-workers, friends and family where they are, offering support. And so, listen in to Gianna's "Pledge of Kindness" that she generously shares with the Office Flip Flops community. Gianna is ten years-old and Student Council President for her school. The pledge she shares with us is something for us to live by and pay forward. She is wise beyond her years and her reminder to keep things simple is a great tool for all of us. Venezuela continues to grapple with a humanitarian crisis caused by the dictatorial corruption of Nicolas Maduro. But despite the danger to themselves and their families, every day people continue to mobilize and demand respect for human rights and a return to democracy. Over the last three years of this podcast, we've discussed the political situation in Venezuela a number of times – often focusing on the crisis at the national level situation. Today, we wanted to bring things down to the personal level. Our producers Sam Johannes and Travis Green spoke with two activists on how their journey led them to be involved in politics and what keeps them motivated through such trying times. Rafaela Requesens is a Venezuelan student activist who gained recognition as the Student Council President of the Central University of Venezuela (Universidad Central de Venezuela, UCV) in 2017-2018. She has been instrumental in raising awareness on the current state of education in Venezuela and has led the student movement in several peaceful protests. Ms. Requesens has also been a public advocate for political prisoners, given that her brother, National Assembly Deputy Juan Requesens, was arbitrarily imprisoned by the Maduro regime in 2018. To date, he remains imprisoned with no trial date set. Armando Armas is a Member of the political party Voluntad Popular, who was elected to the National Assembly in 2015. He was one of the Deputies injured in July 2017 when the National Assembly was attacked by pro-Maduro supporters.
Max Rosen talks about his responsibilities as Student Council President, shortening lunch lines, lowering KW requirements, debate, and a potential future in politics.
Jason Ping with his project at Intel ISEF this year won first and best of category awards in the category of computational biology and bioinformatics. He’s also Student Council President, president of China Care, he’s in the National Honor Society, and many more. Jason also shared a coding pun from ISEF, take a listen now, don’t let it bug you any longer what that could be! There’s also a special shoutout to a non-profit organization, “Engage STEM”. Brains and Bullets gather with a surprise guest to tackle Season 1 of My Wife is the Student Council President!
J. Elaine was born in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. At age 9, she felt the first adrenaline rush of "getting a laugh" on stage at a performing arts camp, and from that moment on, J. Elaine's mission has been to incorporate laughter into everything she did, be it in her dance competitions, in french class or even as the Student Council President of her High School. J. Elaine moved to New York City, pounded the pavement and graduated from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy as a true quadruple threat; singer, dancer, actor, comedian. At the time of graduation, J. Elaine was offered The National Tour of A Chorus Line. She would revisit that iconic show 3 more times in different stages of her career, always playing "Connie Wong, it's always been Connie Wong", under the direction of the one and only Baayork Lee. J. Elaine made her Broadway debut in 1999 in Miss Saigon and continued to work on Broadway in the revivals of Flower Drum Song with Lea Salonga, Wonderful Town with Brooke Shields, Sweet Charity with Christina Applegate, A Chorus Line with Mario Lopez, and as "Lily St. Regis" opposite Jane Lynch in Annie. J.Elaine originated roles in The Wedding Singer as Imelda Marcos, and as scene stealer "Cynthia" in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Yes, she was that gal with the iconic ping pong number. It should be noted that J. Elaine has had the opportunity to shoot ping pong balls into the audience in two different Broadway shows, without the use of a paddle. In 2008, after an ACL knee injury, J. Elaine chasséd away from musicals to pursue comedy in film and television. J. Elaine made her feature film debut in Morning Glory opposite Rachel McAdams playing "Lisa Bartlett" and continued to appear on the big screen in St. Vincent with Bill Murray, Before I Disappear, and in the critically acclaimed documentary Every Little Step, which chronicles the emotional audition process for the Broadway Revival of A Chorus Line. She has worked on 2 Broke Girls, Grace and Frankie, 30 Rock, Rescue Me, and Law & Order: SVU. As a comedian now living in LA, J. Elaine writes and produces her own comedy Blog Motivational Mondays with "V" on her YouTube Channel as well as continuing to produce her own brand of comedy which incorporates everything a Broadway gypsy does well; singing, dancing, acting, and anything else to get a laugh. www.jelainemarcos.org #podcast #confessionsofanactress #new #newepisode #actress #broadway #friday #jelainemarcos #meredithpatterson #jessetylerferguson #barrettfoa #dancastellaneta #stephanieblock #christineebersole #rosieodonnell #chasebrock #baayorklee #bobavian #achorusline #whatIdidforlove #conniewong #annmiller #makebelieve #mariskahargitay #pingpongballs #selfhelp #tonyrobbins #lawandordersvu #improv #goldenhandcuffs #rentlive #amda #amdaallumni #mirandasings #motivationalmondays #dancer #triplethreat #quadruplethreat #truth #authentic #funny #comedy #DontRingTheBell #NavySeal #vacation #ChaseBrock #LaughIn #Annie #BreneBrown#FeelTheFearAndDoItAnyway --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/confessionsofanactress/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/confessionsofanactress/support

Hey marshmallows! It's time for another installment of Veronica Mars in which I am unprepared for this show. So this one is about 2 things: the campaign for Student Council President, and Logan. Let me just say that one of them turns out much better than the other, although both are heartbreaking in their very own special ways. Thank you so much to Anonymous for sponsoring this episode, and I will see you all soon with a new Crowdcast!
Happy Friday Wonderlings, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. It’s election time, who will you vote for as your R.F.K Junior High’s Student Council President? Check out S4E10: The Candidate. Air Date: January 9, 1991 In this episode with Becky Slater as the only candidate for Student Council President, Paul convinces Kevin to run a campaign against her. With the deadline approaching and way behind, Kevin is tempted to use less-than-honest measures to try and win the election. I’ll be completely honest here I don’t know jack didily about politics and I’m ok with that. I would vote for Becky Slater in my opinion. I kinda think Paul would have been a better candidate than Kevin since he was the one behind the scenes doing most of the work, in the end the election poll results Paul got 12 votes while got 1. Donald Duck got 68. Although we all knew Becky was gonna win. She had 267 votes. There was no real competition there. Join me next week for the last two episodes of Season 4. S4E13: Who's Aunt Rose?. which aired on February 6, 1991. In this episode Following the death of a very distant relative, Grandpa Arnold comes to visit and convinces the family to attend the funeral and burial. While at the event, Kevin begins to think about the mortality of his dad and grandfather. and S4E14: Courage, which aired on February 13, 1991. In this episode Following a trip to the dentist, Kevin finds out that he needs to have a cavity filled. He puts off going back in fear that he will look like a coward in front of the lovely dental hygienist, who is always complimenting him on his courage. We'll jump into Season 6 of the Wonder Years on September 7. Have a great weekend everyone! If you enjoy this podcast, I would love it if you would go to Itunes and leave a review.
Hey there Wonderlings, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. I’m back from vacation and have a new Wonder Years Flashback Episode for you to enjoy! S4E8: The Sixth Man Air Date: November 28, 1990 In this episode when Paul decides to try out for the basketball team, Kevin is convinced that he is just wasting his time. However, when he ends up making the team and his basketball skills improve, it creates a strain in their friendship. I really enjoyed this episode. It was nice to see Paul come out from behind Kevin’s shadow and gain some self confidence. Also for less than 2 minutes we get a nice big brother advice speech from Wayne. Let me just say I was floored, and did not see that coming from Wayne. A nice little nugget of sensitivity acting from Jason Hervey. Join me Friday for S4E10: The Candidate, which aired on January 9, 1991. In this episode With Becky Slater as the only candidate for Student Council President, Paul convinces Kevin to run a campaign against her. With the deadline approaching and way behind, Kevin is tempted to use less-than-honest measures to try and win the election. This is also the last appearance of Crystal McKellar(Danica's sister)who portrays Becky Slater(Kevin's Ex Girlfriend). If you enjoy this podcast, I would love it if you would go to Itunes and leave a Rating and Review. The more reviews this podcast gets the more people will know it's out there. Have a great night!
Hey Wonderlings, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. S4E3: The Journey which aired on October 3, 1990. In this episode Hearing that some 10th-Grade girls are having a slumber party, Kevin, Paul and the guys travel across town in the dark of night to try and get in on the action. Happy Friday Night Wonderlings, Angela Bowen, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. And... that’s a wrap for Season 5 of The Wonder Years! S5E24: Broken Hearts and Burgers which aired on May 13, 1992. In this episode a misunderstanding at a burger joint causes Winnie to give Kevin the cold shoulder. Kevin tries to patch things up, while remembering the moments that brought Winnie both closer and away from him. This was a sweet end to Season 5 even if it mainly consisted of flashbacks of Seasons 1-5. We even had a rare scene of Wayne and Winnie interacting (she slaps him across the face and calls him a creep), The only time I saw them in a scene together was in the pilot episode. So August will be all about finishing up the Summer Of Savage Movies When you Remember Me and The Wizard. Also it will be The Wonder Years Flashback Month with passed on episodes from Season 3 and 4 like: S3E8: The Pimple Just when the Pruitts and their daughter Gina are coming to visit, Kevin gets struck by the most debilitating thing to ever hit a teenager: a pimple! With only a few days until the Pruitts arrive, Kevin resorts to all kinds of methods to get rid of the unsightly blemish. S3E9: Math Class Squared While still having problem in his math class, Kevin makes the decision that the only way to get good grades is to cheat. S3E11: Don't You Know Anything About Women Kevin wants to ask Susan Fisher to the next school dance, but can't find the courage. Wanting to help him out, his lab partner Linda offers to go with him, 'as friends.' Anime dvd review of Otoboku (Maidens Are Falling For Me) Volume 3: Androgynous Antics. Published by Media Blasters. List Price: $19.99, Rated 16+. Episodes 10-13. Running Time: 100 minutes. Directed by Munenori Nawa (Galaxy Angel A&Z). Series Composition by Katsumi Hasegawa. (Japanese with English subtitles) It's time to say goodbye to Seio Academy as the last dvd wraps up the series and some of its cast gets prepared to graduate. Luckily for Mizuho, for the most part, he has been able to keep the secret that he's actually a dude from most of the all female student body. This last volume focuses almost exclusively on the love triangle between Mizuho, his childhood friend, Mariya, and the Student Council President, Takako. It's unclear at this point if that love is reciprocated for either girl on Mizuho's side. I think he sees Mariya as his best friend and doesn't really see her in a romantic way. The event that brings things to a head is the staging of Romeo and Juliet at the school festival, with Mizuho and Takako playing the starcrossed lovers. It's left to them whether they will actually kiss during the love scenes. Locking lips has an odd effect on Takako as she goes from overconfident snobbish prude to love struck puppy dog after one kiss from Mizuho. Mariya is going to have to share Mizuho even more as he takes the traditional role of dancing with all the single girls at the annual Christmas dance party. The last episode on the dvd is an OVA sendup of the fairy tale of Cinderella, featuring super deformed versions of the Otoboku cast. This series really brought something new to the crossdressing genre, (or maybe this is a harem anime?) whether it be a boy or a girl in the uncomfortable role of masquerading as something they are not. The aspect that made Otoboku unique was that after the first couple of episodes, Mizuho became a girl. What I mean is that he wasn't really a horndog like other anime characters put in the same situation. Mizuho is so nice that you forget he's a guy. There is more fan service in Maria Watches Over Us than this show. He just sorta goes with the flow and you almost feel like you're watching an all girl cast. It was really refreshing that he never tried to take advantage of the situation to seduce or cop feels or spy. But let's face it, he was already so effeminate before he came to Seio, he made Clay Aiken look tough in comparison. I almost wish the show was longer so I could see what happened with the different character's plot lines. Extras: Clean Ending, Live Event in Kawasaki featuring the voice actresses singing songs, and a promotional music video. Media Blasters will be releasing a box set of the entire series on Oct. 6.
