Capes On the Couch - Where Comics Get Counseling

Before he makes his big screen debut in Wakanda Forever, we take a deep dive on NAMOR! To what depths does his distrust of the surface world go? Intro New patron: Citizen Amar-Kareem Background (4:55) Namor Mckenzie, the Sub-Mariner, created by Bill Everett in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly (April 1939) and Marvel Comics #1 (October 1939) Namor was born from a human father, sea captain Leonard McKenzie, and an Atlantean, Fen, daughter of Emperor Thakorr His unique parentage gave him both strengths and weaknesses that other Atlanteans did not possess: he is pink skinned like humans as opposed to the blue skin of pureblood Atlanteans, but he cannot survive in water or on land for prolonged periods of time, or it will impact his psyche Initially Namor was, if not a full villain, at best an antihero or well-intentioned extremist, attacking Americans in the name of protecting Atlantis and the ocean Once WWII started, he joined other heroes in attacking Nazis After WWII, he suffered an amnesiac attack, and once he recovered, he joined Professor Xavier in searching for mutants - Xavier's attempt at repairing his memories, however, created further issues in Namor's mind, and gave him bipolar disorder He was later found wandering the streets of New York as an amnesiac vagrant - upon learning that Atlantis was destroyed by nuclear bombs, his memories returned and he vowed revenge on the surface world, pitting him against the Fantastic Four numerous times He would attempt several times to woo Susan Storm away from Reed, but although Sue admits an attraction to Namor, she remains loyal to her husband He married twice - his first wife Dorma was killed shortly after the wedding by an evil mermaid, and his second wife Marrina was driven mad, and Namor was forced to kill her with the Ebony Blade - she survived, and Norman Osborn altered her DNA to turn her into a raging beast as part of his revenge on Namor, who killed her once again #BecauseComics In the 90s, he searches for sunken treasures and uses the money to finance a corporation that focuses on conservation He is a member of the Illuminati, and notably the only one opposed to sending the Hulk into space, as he foresaw dire consequences should Bruce return - he was the only one who Bruce didn't seek vengeance upon when Hulk came back Due to his mutant abilities, he formally joins the X-Men, and is one of the Phoenix Five during AvX, but is the first one to be defeated and lose his Phoenix Force powers Namor is killed by the Squadron Supreme in retaliation for his numerous attacks on Earth and other worlds, but this is undone by time travel after the team realized Namor's murder would lead to global destruction Fights the Agents of Atlas after Atlantis' guardian dragon is stolen - after some battling, Namor & the agents come to an understanding, and then team up against the King in Black Issues - born of two worlds, welcome in neither Mixed parentage creates hostility Unique physiology leads to bipolar disorder, or at least manic/depressive swings Zealotry for Atlanteans leads to issues with both his people as well as surface dwellers Break Plugs for Last Sons of Krypton, Cheers to Comics, and Meghan Fitzmartin Treatment In-universe -  Out of universe - Mixed race parentage Skit Hello Namor, I'm Dr. Issues. - I am King Namor, ruler of Atlantis. I am not one of your colleagues, we are not fraternizing over a beverage. You will address me accordingly. My apologies, your majesty…your highness…your Atlantean Majestic highness? I'm bad at this. -I gave you one job and yet you have failed. But I am a forgiving ruler, so you will get one more chance. Thank you, King Namo…wait, you don't rule me! -That is not the point. As long as you show the proper respect, and the appropriate decorum, then I have no quarrel with you. Very well then. What does the mighty King of Atlantis have to gain from gracing the presence of a common land-dwelling human psychiatrist? -I would have thought that my message was delivered ahead of time. If not, then I will be forced to punish the one that failed to deliver said message, AND then I will have them re-send that message twice as fast the next time. There is no room for error in troubling times such as these. So…what was the message? - That I, albeit one of the most important figures in existence, has made his mark on the world, yet still find challenges that can only be mastered through the guiding hand of one with the knowledge of the mind. You, my humble servant, are such a man. Um…thanks? So, what can I help you with? -My people have respected me for so long that I worry they no longer fear me the way they should. There is no room for comfort when our world remains in great peril on all sides. No offense but, that comes across a bit paranoid. -You wouldn't say that if you have fought the battles we have fought. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. But why would you want fear instead of respect? Fear is the more primal response and that sounds…beneath you. -Fear can be harnessed. Respect is dormant, docile even. Boy, you really have a hard edge. Do you ever relax? -I am capable of the finest travels in leisure only privy to those that would dare seek such an endeavor. *pause* Such as… -That's classified. It is beneath a man of my stature to, as you say, kiss and tell.  Oooooookaaaaay…are you always this obtuse? -There is no need to use such language! Remember your place amongst royalty. *pause* You don't know what that word means, do you? -*pause* The kingdom of Atlantis has no need for obscure vocabulary. We speak directly, we are a people of action. All you're talking about so far is your people. That's nice, but the point of individual therapy is the individual. What do you want to change? -Nothing. Then we're done here. What's the point? -You once again have a misguided approach. I am saying that I value consistency. Tradition. Honor. Or are those concepts too…obtuse for you to comprehend? You want permanent, everlasting control of that which is important to you. -Now we are speaking the right language. As a psychiatrist, I must inform you, King Namor of the Atlanteans, that I am in no position to make any such guarantee that our sessions will yield that result. - I see. You need to work on your delivery of sarcasm. It does not match any of my rivals for wit or passion. You're USED to people talking to you that way? Did you ever think that it's because you get under the skin of every person you meet? -A pearl is made by an irritant of sand in an oyster's mouth. And yet, not every oyster produces a pearl. My lot in life is to create more treasures of the sea. Why should I care if others are intolerable of my grit? I'm not sure that's a “lot” in life instead of a conscious choice. -*pause* That's not a question. I…don't think I wanted it to be a question? Anyway, you're blocking my attempts to understand your emotions, your thought process, and your values. What do you want from me? -Well, you haven't attempted to throw me out of your office yet, so that tells me you are more tolerant than most plebs. ***paper unfurls*** Here's a list of every goal that is relevant to my success. The first 50 of them are crossed off. You don't need to show me those. -Then how will you know of my great achievements? I agree -What? *quickly* Nothing…now, you name at least 20 people here and simply have an exclamation point next to their names…except Sue, where you have a heart…but there are no details for any of them - I don't need explanations; I know what they mean. But I DON'T know what they mean! -That's for you to decipher as we talk over the next 22 sessions 22?! Aww man…um, why 22? -I have a full calendar of every in-person session and phone call that we'll have so that you can't say “I'm busy” at the last moment. Your online system is truly convenient. Are you trying to make up for a lack of other attachments by putting more energy into me? -*pause* You say it like it's a bad thing.  15 minute…10 minute time limit - But I *interrupting* and only 3 topics -You are in no position to *interrupting again* plus if you are more than 5 minutes late I charge double -*pause* you are trying to create barriers. I see. But a king never yields. You WILL treat me and you WILL know my greatness. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go salvage a barren stretch of an unknown trench that you have never heard of but will save countless ocean creatures for the sake of Atlantean commerce. I'll be sure to send you a private message when it concludes at…oh, about 4AM on your time scale. *heaviest sigh* I look forward to it. - Now THAT was better. Now You Know - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessWelcome to another episode of OTTplay Now You Know, I'm your host Nikhil.Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return as the Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange in the sequel to the 2016 film, Doctor Strange. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film will explore the multiverse and will feature elements of sci-fi and horror. Before you book your tickets for the film's premiere this weekend, here are some lesser-known facts about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Let's get going.Director Sam Raimi has included references to Doctor Strange in one of his previous Marvel films. In the 2004 film Spider-Man 2, starring Tobey Maguire, the fast-food pizza joint where Peter Parker works and the billboard with Mary Jane picture is on Bleecker Street. This is the exact location of Doctor Strange's Sanctum Santorum. In fact, in the same film, J. Jonah Jameson, the editor-in-chief of the fictional Daily Bugle rebuked the suggestion that the villainous Doctor Otto Octavious be called Doctor Strange, to which Jameson retorted "But it's taken!"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be categorized in the horror genre. The rest of the 27 films released so far as part of the interconnected universe have been classified as sci-fi, action, comedy, or fantasy.Scott Derrickson, the director of the first Doctor Strange film, was initially set to direct the sequel as well but exited the project due to creative differences. His original pitch for the film would've included Namor, a character that inspired the creation of DC's Aquaman. The film would've also included the Defenders, the team of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.Bruce Campbell, star of the Evil Dead franchise and a longtime collaborator of Sam Raimi, said “Linoleum" when asked if he would be making an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He even posted a fake script on social media on April Fools Day 2021, which were in fact lines from the first Doctor Strange film and the 1981 film The Evil Dead. The film title, Multiverse of Madness,  is inspired by P. Lovecraft's horror novel At the Mountains of Madness. It is also a homage to Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee's use of alliteration in naming his iconic characters such as Stephen Strange, Peter Parker, Matt Murdock, Bruce Banner, Reed Richards, and Susan Storm. The film was unable to use the name of Shuma-Gorath, for the one-eyed tentacle monster. Even though it is used in the comics, a copyright issue meant that the film had to use the name Gargantos. This is because the phrase was originally coined by Robert E Howard in his short story The Curse of the Golden Skull.Well, that's the OTTplay Now You Know for today, until the next episode it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten by - Ryan Gomez

Susan Storm founded Psychologyjunkie.com in 2015, and is now a six-figure business owner selling courses and ebooks to an audience of nearly a million website visitors every month. In October 2019, after four years of considering using a quiz she took the leap and put one on the home page of her website as her main lead magnet, and since that day just six months ago she has generated 28,439 new email subscribers, leading to increased revenue both from ad sales and ebooks/courses. In this episode she shares her story of how she created the quiz and what advice she has for others looking to get started. To check out Susan's quiz, head to psychologyjunkie.com Podcast Transcript Josh Haynam: Hi everyone. I'm really excited today to be here with Susan Storm. She is the founder of psychologyjunkie.com and is using quizzes in so many cool ways that I just want to hear about how she's doing it and what it's doing for business. Thanks for coming on, Susan. Susan Storm: Thanks for having me. I'm really excited to talk this over with you. Josh Haynam: Yeah. Let's just kick things off. How did you start using quizzes? What's the origin story of all that? Susan Storm: Yeah, so I'm an MBTI practitioner. If anyone's new did that, it's I'm certified in Myers-Briggs typology. And if you ever heard of extroversion or introversion, sensing or intuition, these four letter codes that people get, like INFJ or ISFP, these are Myers-Briggs types. And as a practitioner, I created a website where I talk about the Myers-Briggs types in depth as well as enneagram types and how you can improve your life by knowing your type. And for the longest time I knew I needed to create a quiz. It was something that was really important to me, but a lot of the quiz builders that I found out there were just too simplistic for what I was trying to do or they were too complicated for me to figure out because I'm not a tech wizard by any stretch of the imagination. Susan Storm: I finally found TryInteract and I loved how much you could tailor it to exactly what you needed. There were so many options from, you could do the visual tests or you leave them as questions, you could put unlimited options in there and just set it up so that you could have a funnel directed to the specific results people got. And I spent a really long time on a complicated test and then I realized, you know what? It actually worked out better when I made it simpler anyway, and the test was great. I created a Myers-Briggs type test, now this isn't the official. If you want to get the official Myers-Briggs tests taken you have to actually go to a practitioner or take it from their official site. But I made the best test I could create for people. Susan Storm: And on the first, I think so far we've gotten 28,439 leads since we launched the test back in October. I think it was October 19th. And it more than doubled our email list. We also have a child's personality type test, so if you want to know your child's Myers-Briggs personality type, you can take that. And that one I haven't publicized as much, there's a lot more I need to do as far as promoting the test, but I've brought in 881 leads from that and that's only been, I think that's only been probably for a few months now. It's been a lot of fun. It's been great. TryInteract has definitely helped us to grow our email list quite a bit and get us closer to our customers. Josh Haynam: Wow, that's incredible. That number 28,439, right? Susan Storm: That's right. Yeah. Josh Haynam: Wow, that's crazy. That's amazing. I think for a lot of our customers and potential customers, it's like, oh, that's awesome. That sounds incredible. I would love to have that kind of result. But then it's almost like, I don't know if this happened to you in school, but when you've got a math problem...

She’s been featured on Forbes, Entrepreneur, and Amazon Prime Video. Today, she helps coaches earn with ease!  She’s originally from Melbourne, Australia and now she’s traveling the world as a digital nomad! Right now, Ruby, her 3 year-old son, and her husband are in Sofia, Bulgaria, and she is working as a business coach and a LinkedIn Strategist. In this episode, she also shares what she’s currently working on in her business and shares that in December, she and her family are planning on taking some time off to enjoy the holiday season.  Ruby shares what a day-in-the-life looks like for her as a digital nomad and coach, while she travels the world with her family. She also gives us the inside scoop what is most rewarding about traveling the globe with her family, how adventure brings in more creativity to her business, and how being immersed in different cultures around the world brings so much perspective to her and shows her how truly wonderful this world really is.  She also shares her story of how she moved from career coaching to side hustles, and how she found such joy through this because she knew that people were desiring to step into their mission and to show up as their highest-selves. And because it is her passion to help her audience to do the same, by empowering her clients to show up with the confidence that they need to be successful in following that higher purpose, the coaching came really natural.  Ruby also talks about the importance of building an audience. The difficulty of launching a brand on certain social platforms, how she blazed her own trail on LinkedIn and how it is her platform of focus for success, and the importance of being your authentic, silly, joyful self on these platforms. Staying true to your values and who you are, getting real with your audience, and staying consistent are just a few of the tips she’s shared on this podcast episodes! Ruby advises her fellow hustlers to be tenacious, get clarity on what you’re selling, and think about what you’re audience is looking for. We also talked about her spiritual practice and how it’s interweaved within her business.  She shares how powerful the practice of journaling and meditation is, in terms of tapping into that inner voice and your higher self. Ruby tells us how important listening to your inner voice is and shares her story of how she and her husband both used to work a full-time jobs, were always busy and rushing, left with no time together, and finally realizing that this was not the kind of life she wanted to be living. They ultimately asked themselves, “What does that higher version of ourselves want for our lives?” And they asked the universe to open up doors and opportunities. She shared that she asked herself, “What if life didn’t have to be that 9-5?” We touch on how important it is to having a vision and making it happen.  You can find her in the following places for more information!  Her Facebook group: Own Your Hustle  Podcast: Own Your Hustle Podcast  Instagram: @_rubylee_  Website:https://www.rubylee.co/ Link to Ruby’s Cyber Monday Sale: https://www.ownyourhustle.co/BlackFriday2CyberMondaySale  Resources: Personality Hacker by Joel Mark Witt and Antonia Dodge 10 Things That Excite the ENFP Personality Type Article by Susan Storm: https://www.psychologyjunkie.com/2019/01/24/10-things-that-excite-the-enfp-personality-type/

Capitán Pada y sus monitos
#152 Reseña: Los Cuatro Fantásticos

Capitán Pada y sus monitos

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 17, 2015 9:31

Russell Crowe is back in theaters, and apparently destroying music in Les Miserables wasn’t enough for him, because now he’s trampling on the story of Noah and the rest of the Bible too—or at least that’s what some of your Facebook friends think. We’ll get there, but first we’ve got a lightning round to shock you with.Hollywood is Dying; Long Live the Indie SceneThe recent SXSW show may have struck a huge blow for a topic dear to the Screeners’ hearts:  the democratization of filmmaking. A distribution company called VHX marked the end of their private beta, declaring open season on their platform for indie content creators everywhere. A marketplace like this could be the difference between an audience of 10 and one of 10,000 or more...so when will we see Chris’s first Michael Bay fan fiction hit our computer screens? From something all the Screeners seem to care about, we move to something pretty much no one does—the cast for the new Fantastic Four movie. The only reason we’re talking about it is because the studio’s made an interesting choice in picking Michael B. Jordan to play Johnny to Kate Mara’s Susan Storm. Is the decision based on having the best person for the job, or is this very conversation and dozens other like it the reason for the casting?Next up, just because the Screeners like to open up old wounds from time to time, they can’t resist mentioning a brand new way to pirate movies that made its way onto the scene not too long ago. Popcorn Time is Netflix for people who don’t care whether their entertainment is legal; can you guess what the Screeners think about it? No? Neither can we—this should be enlightening…And now, for something completely different:  The Screeners have landed their first sponsor, indiebox. Started by gamers who found themselves disappointed that the Internet has slowly sucked all the anticipation they used to get from buying an actual game that came in an actual box from an actual store, indiebox is aiming to bring back some of that thrill. Their subscription service delivers an lovingly crafted indie game to you every month as a customized “cartridge” packaged in—you guessed it—an old-school cardboard box that’s full of other game-related swag. The Screeners have a few questions for indiebox’s president, James Morgan, but the main one seems to be, “When can we try it?” (May. The answer’s May.)Events Don’t Get Much More Main than ThisOK, we promised controversy, and controversy you will get. Noah is out in theaters; it’s being hailed as the first blockbuster of the season and all sorts of other generic praise you see on trailers, but it’s also been pretty divisive, and you can probably guess why. Make art based on thousands of years of religious tradition, and chances are you’re not going to please everyone. Aronofsky’s never been satisfied with aiming his films at the lowest common denominator, though, and his movies often explore complicated topics in a unique way.The question for a work like this might not be so much the relationship of the source material to the final product, but rather the effect of that final product itself. While he’s trying to avoid slavishly reproducing the original, can Aronofsky make something capable of standing on its own? Also, which Screener can yell the loudest?… go!* For those who didn't find the last episode's title pretentious enough...
