It’s Kentucky’s newest distillery; Log Still Distillery is located in Gethsemane (just outside of Bardstown in Southern Nelson County). We toured the 300-acre “Dant Crossing” property with Founder and President, Wally Dant. Wally, along with his family, Lynne and Charles Dant, are taking on this large project to create a “destination distillery” that is perfect for the whole family. Wally discussed the Dant family history in Nelson County and his efforts to revive the family name in the World of Kentucky Bourbon. He also shared two whiskey offerings that are going to be available at the Log Still tasting room; Monk’s Road Fifth District Series, a 6 year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rattle & Snap, a Limited Release 8 year old 103 proof Tennessee Whiskey. The Tasting Room is Now Open: Sunday 11 am - 5 pm Tuesday - Wednesday 10 am - 6 pm Thursday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm Bar is Open: Thursday - Saturday 5-10 pm We are thankful for everyone who has taken the time to give us feedback on our podcast. Cheers,Scott, Jake, & MichaelBourbon Lens About Log Still Distillery Our story begins with our forefather Joseph Washington Dant and an old hollowed-out poplar log. With it, he fashioned a still and gave birth to the Dant family’s place in bourbon lore with a legacy all our own. In 1836, he started a story of heritage, and Kentucky bourbon has flowed through our family’s veins ever since. Seven generations later, we’re building something new at our old Kentucky home. Spearheaded by J.W. “Wally” Dant and cousins Lynne and Charles, Log Still aims to combine the age-old craftsmanship of distilling with the camaraderie and spirit of a family-owned business. And because family is at the heart of what we do, we view every bottle as a nod of respect to the past. Log Still is Wally Dant’s tribute to his father, forefathers and their contributions to bourbon history. About J.W. “Wally” Dant We call him founder, foreman and fearless leader. You can call him Wally. As president/distiller, Wally Dant works hard every day to bring his vision for Log Still Distillery to life. And to Wally, it’s about more than quality spirits and an unforgettable destination. It’s about revival. The great-great-great-grandson of bourbon legend Joseph Washington Dant, Wally is keeping his family’s rich legacy alive as he builds upon the same land in southern Nelson County where his forefathers once made spirits. “To be able to put our name on a bottle again is pretty important.” Log Still is Wally’s way of honoring the Dant family name and giving back to the community he credits for providing his family with values and love. And drawing from years of experience in the health care and liquor industries, this business-savvy entrepreneur is the right man for the job. Wally dreams big, and he won’t stop until he sees those dreams come to fruition. And the future? Log Still is still family-owned and run by the Dants. If he’s not hard at work reviving the Log Still legacy, you can likely find him making garden-fresh salsa, hot sauce or ketchup, or cooking up a chef-like meal for friends and family. Product – Available in the Log Still Tasting Room - Opened May 18, 2021 Monk’s Road Fifth District Series With Monk’s Road Fifth District Series, we tip our hat to the historic tax district of Central Kentucky, deeply seeped in bourbon lore. With this rotating series of hand selected spirits, we honor a rich tradition of nearly lost fifth district distilleries. It’s all part of a long line of rotating Bluegrass-inspired bourbons created with the same ingenuity and fortitude made famous by our forefathers. So just this once, let’s celebrate the taxman. This first Limited Release pays homage to Cold Spring Distillery, a historic distillery in southern Nelson County, Ky., founded by J.B. Dant in the 1800s. The Cold Spring name harkened back to the spring where, even in the summer, the water stayed cool enough that the distillery could continue to operate. This 6-year-old bourbon masterfully blends notes of corn, rye and malted barley for a product that revives the spirit of the original. Monk’s Road Dry Gin Our essential gin is a unique offering from our Kentucky hills, with a delicate balance of distinctly complementary botanicals. We’ve married watermelon rind with zests of orange and lemon for a bright and fresh flavor – creating the perfect gin for all seasons and palates. Sip it slow and neat or dress it up in a cocktail. This palate pleaser possesses an air of refinement. Monk’s Road Barrel Finished Gin Utilizing our bourbon barrels, we handcrafted this barrel finished gin in homage to the rolling Kentucky hills we call home, allowing fresh botanicals of coriander, cranberry, juniper and nutmeg to develop and mature into the perfect flavor profile. Smooth and complex with a subtle waft of smoke, Monk’s Road Barrel Finished Gin nods to the pride of place, tradition and legacy for which the Dant family is known. Rattle & Snap Tennessee Whiskey Several varieties of straight and flavored whiskeys will be available soon for patrons who may want to branch out from traditional, Kentucky Bourbon. About Dant Crossing Approximately an hour’s drive from both Louisville and Lexington, Dant Crossing is a picturesque, 300-plus acre campus with a slew of amenities and activities for the whole family. When Jennifer Brady returns to Northern Arizona University for her sophomore year, she quickly becomes a big sister to her new roommate, Beth Rankin, a brilliant yet sheltered sixteen-year-old freshman. For a homeschooled Beth, college is her first taste of both freedom and unfettered access to the internet, and Jenny is concerned that she’s too naïve and rebellious for her own good. Her worries are well-founded because one day Beth vanishes, prompting Jenny to alert campus authorities, local police, and her mom, Sheriff Joanna Brady—who calls in a favor. Beth is found, but Jenny’s concern has unwittingly put her in the crosshairs of a criminal bent on revenge. With Christmas vacation approaching, and Beth at war with her parents, Jenny invites Beth to the shelter of the Brady home. In this episode, Marta and Anna, together with their guest Jørn Jessen, explore a very important question: Can you cure addiction? Jørn shares openly and vulnerably his own experience of going into, through and out of addiction. Jørn explains what are the elements of addiction and how they impact you and your life and tells us what helped him most on his way towards freedom. Our ConversationWe deep-dived into: • How does addiction begin? • What may be the signs of addiction? • What are the elements of alcoholism and how being addicted differs from being a user? • What are the ways to get support on the way out of addiction? • Can you fully cure the addiction? • How can you know if you're completely free from it? About JørnJørn is quite an uncommon person, he is not on social media, he doesn't have his website and he was not much into describing his BIO. He was though happy to let Marta share how she sees him, so here you go...Jørn according to Marta:I will be honest with you, Jørn is one of my favourite humans and a dear friend. The Universe has sent him my way to enrich my journey called life and this I am profoundly grateful for.The way I see it, Jørn is a wise man. An existential or spiritual teacher if you like. What I find most special about him is his ability to convey even the most complex concepts in a relatable and digestible way. I will never forget the way he explained his take on the Purpose of the Universe. No one has ever managed to tell this story the way he did and respond to all my scepticism and questions with this amount of ease and clarity. That is a true gift. When you converse with Jørn, he takes you on a journey. He connects the wisdom of science, philosophy and spirituality in a unique and clear way. He knows how to bring the big and often fluffy topics down to earth and make them relatable to a regular human. And he brings his vulnerability and loving presence along, turning the conversation into a beautiful experience. Despite the fact that Jørn is not a public person (just yet), he is already impacting the lives of many people, among others through being a dedicated Sponsor and facilitator in AA.I believe that it is only a matter of time before Jørn is ready to step even further into his potential and bless even more people with his unique gifts. I am sure happy to see it coming. How to get in contact with Jørn?Jørn's email: jrnjessen@gmail.com
As Kingdom leaders we live and lead in constant tension of overlapping spaces. As followers of Jesus, we don't truly fit in with the rest of the world, yet Jesus sends us into the world to engage with culture, to lead with compassion, wisdom, and courage so that others may be pointed to him. On today's episode, Alan sits down with his brother, J.R for a conversation about J.R's new book The Sacred Overlap: Learning to Live Faithfully in the Space Between. This is a very timely conversation with tons of application that is very relevant to our current climate. Give this one a listen, and then again with someone else. You won't be disappointed. About J.R. Dr. J.R. Briggs possesses four passions: Following Jesus, equipping and investing in hungry kingdom leaders, growing fruit on other people's trees, and creating good kingdom mischief. In short, his calling is to partner with people who are called to follow Jesus while they lead others. In 2011 he started Kairos Partnerships, an organization committed to serving hungry kingdom leaders through leadership coaching, consulting, speaking, teaching, equipping and writing. For more than 15 years, J.R. served in pastoral roles in mega-churches, church plants and house church networks. Since starting Kairos Partnerships, he has served and invested in pastors and kingdom leaders in over 40 denominations throughout North America. In addition to pastors and church planters, he has also invested in a wide variety of leaders, including business owners, U.S. Olympic athletes, university administrators, athletic directors, coaches, and attorneys. He is affiliate faculty member in practical theology at Missio Seminary and guest instructor at Friends University in the Masters of Arts in Spiritual Formation program. He has guest lectured, taught and spoken at over a dozen colleges, universities, and seminaries around the U.S. He also serves as the Director of Leadership & Congregational Formation for The Ecclesia Network (www.ecclesianet.org) and as a National Trainer & Strategist for Fresh Expressions U.S. (www.freshexpressionsus.org) In addition to writing, co-writing, or contributing to several books on a wide variety of topics, he has also published articles in Christianity Today, Huffington Post, Preaching Today, American Bible Society, N.T. Today’s episode features Jérome Simian, French physical preparation coach. Jérome is a coach who not only has been trained by some of the best minds in the world (Jay Schroeder and Charles Poliquin) but also works with some of the greatest athletes in the world, notably Kevin Mayer, the new decathlon world record holder who broke Ashton Eaton’s old mark with an incredible score of 9126. After Kevin Mayer broke the record,Jérome wrote a fantastic article on Strength Sensei about some of the training that allowed Kevin Mayer to overcome back and foot issues, as well as a weak start in his races to progress to a point where he is now the world record holder. One of the big issues with physical preparation is that the higher the level the athlete is, the less weightroom and barbell lifts will transfer to that athlete’s on-field performance. All too often forgotten is that it is not what you do but how you do it. Jérome is truly a master of the how. This episode is a must-listen for any track and field or strength coach, as what Jérome did with Kevin Mayer is truly phenomenal. On today’s episode, Jérome will cover his approach with Kevin Mayer, how he fixed some of Kevin’s imbalances, his approach to maximal strength training (and then eventually a lack thereof) with Kevin in his lead up to setting the world record. There are also many tips to the nuances of exercise performance within this episode. Today’s episode is brought to you by SimpliFaster, supplier of high-end athletic development tools, such as the Freelap timing system, kBox, Sprint 1080, and more. Key Points Jérome’s training of Kevin Mayer, world record holder in the decathlon How Jérome approaches basic barbell strength training for athletes in terms of posture, position and muscle firing Kevin Mayer’s initial performance needs when he came to Jérome Why Jérome decided to stop doing any significant barbell lifting in Kevin’s training for a period of many months Why exact exercise selection is not nearly as important as how you do what you are doing in the weightroom or track “Strength training and resiliency are not separate qualities” “Kevin’s muscles were fighting each other in lifting… it was more a coordination problem” “There is constant control around the joint at all times; there is no time where the muscle is completely relaxed” “You want to pull (down) with your hip flexors when you squat” “For the RDL I’ll pinch the skin on the lumbar spine… and that teaches them how to get into the proper position… I don’t like telling them pull with this, think about a muscle, etc.” “Extreme ISO’s are supposed to be movement” “(When he came to me) Kevin was more a kangaroo than a racehorse” “We never get very far from ATG squats because that keeps his hips loose” “(Regarding a period of time in Kevin Mayer’s training) No (heavy) squatting no deadlifting at all from October to March” “It’s the concept of metaphors; if you are producing 300lbs one way, but resisting 75lb the other way, you are better off producing 200lb one way and zero the other way (in terms of building efficient movement)” “If you want to lift and be good for sport you have to have a healthy disregard for the amount of weight on the bar” “Do you want to be strong, or do you want to lift heavy weights, they are not necessarily the same” About Jérome Simian Jérome Simian started his coaching career in 1998. Since then, he has coached athletes to compete in seven Olympic games, to World and European medals, as well to national records and dozens of national championships. His experience ranges from track and field to professional rugby, to figure skating, to mention only a few. In a country where good athletes are helped for free and coached by the federal system, his private practice was built on helping those who did not fit the standard performance requi...

He lives in Jacksonville with his wife and their furry children -- they don't like it when he calls them dogs About the book: Rachel Carver’s career with the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation came to a shuddering halt after her last case led to the collateral death of an innocent woman and a shameful cover-up by her superiors. An anonymous tip leads her to investigate a possible link between a recent grizzly murder and the case that ruined her career. All The President's Minutes is a podcast where conversations about movies, journalism, politics and history meet. Each show we use the seminal and increasingly prescient 1976 film All The President's Men as a portal, to engage with the themes and the warnings of the film resonating since its release. For minute two host, Blake Howard joins the political editor of Business Insider Australia and journalist, J.R Hennessy. J.R and Blake discuss the prophetic nature of President's Men by focusing on the trade of journalism and the pursuit of truth. J.R and Blake also take an essential digression to contrast another "primary source" film David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's The Social Network and the quaint conclusions compared to the more substantial political ramifications a decade later.Directed by Alan J. Pakula, written by two-time Oscar-winning screenwriter William Goldman from the novel by reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman; All The President's Men is a perfect film about an imperfect time.ABOUT J.R.
