No... this is NOT a Tyler Perry movie.TeaRon dives into Strung, the psychological thriller from director Malcolm D. Lee starring Chloe Bailey, Lynn Whitfield, Anna Diop, and Lucien Laviscount. The film follows Laila, a gifted young musician whose dream opportunity quickly spirals into a web of seduction, manipulation, secrets, and murder. Hired as a live-in tutor for the daughter of a late rap icon, she soon realizes the luxurious mansion she's entered is hiding far more than musical talent.Strung is packed with stunning performances, beautiful cinematography, psychological twists, and enough red flags to make anyone turn around—but does it undermine itself by explaining too much instead of letting audiences piece the mystery together?TeaRon breaks down what worked, what didn't, and whether Strung delivers a satisfying psychological thriller or gets tangled in its own ambitious storytelling.Did Strung keep you guessing, or did it reveal too much before the credits rolled?––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Follow Us:IG: @tearonworld TT: @tearon__ FB: facebook.com/UbiquitousBlacksTHRD: @ubiquitousblacks–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––About UBIQUITOUS BLACKS REVIEWS:'Ubiquitous Blacks Reviews' is an extension of the Ubiquitous Blacks Podcast where TeaRon (IG: @tearonworld) reviews the latest in Black Movies, TV Shows, and more. The Evil Dead franchise holds a special place in our hearts. It is a part of our youth and brings back lots of pleasant memories. There has also never been anything like it. We talk about how the new Evil Dead movies are continuing to live up to the awesome legacy. We also spend some time discussing how two horror icons have finally come together. There have been a ton of sharksploitation movies over the decades since Jaws invented the sub-genre. On this show alone, we have gone to Venice, Mexico, and Malta in search of great sharksploitation. It has been a mixed bag, to say the least. Along with shark movies, there have been tons of killer animal flicks. We have even managed to cover a few. Hungry provided us with something new. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first hippo horror movie. Being the first means there are some pretty glaring missteps. But when the film is firing on all cylinders, it is something to behold. Did we just witness the first good use of AI? Can you find hippos in the wild in North America? How important are well written characters in an “when animals attack movie”? Why did we talk about all this when there was a killer hippo running rampant? We discuss all this and more. At the beginning of Giselle Bailey and Phil Bertelsen's illuminating two-part HBO doc series “Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television,” the directors follow actress Tracee Ellis Ross, one of the leads of the successful sitcom “Black-ish,” to the set of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” where she and co-star Anthony Anderson celebrate the show's series finale after 8 seasons. The triumphant ending stands in stark contrast to the way Tracee's prior show, “Girlfriends,” was unceremoniously dropped by the network with no opportunity to shoot a finale. These experiences illustrate the highs and lows that Black Americans have experienced working within an industry that first ignored Blacks altogether and then pushed them to the side whenever it suited the networks' whims.   Giselle and Phil join Ken to discuss the evolution of Black representation on TV, the hard won gains and periodic setbacks for Black creatives and the pathbreaking individuals who have ushered in a new era of Black television. Through the stories and revolutionary acts of Nichelle Nichols, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, the Wayans brothers, Shonda Rhimes, Lena Waithe, Issa Rae, and others, who took big risks by betting on themselves and being true to who they are, “Seen & Heard” shows that Black ownership and creative control are the keys to ensuring that there is no going back.   “Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television” is streaming on HBO Max.   Hidden Gems: Giselle: “Divine Horsemen: The Living Gods of Haiti”, “Armed Only With a Camera” Phil: “Natchez”   The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix.   Follow: @giselle.bailey and philbhere on Instagram @topdocspod on Instagram and X

Inayah pulls up to Lip Service and leaves nothing on the table. Fresh off the release of her most vulnerable project to date, Therapy Wasn't Enough, the singer-songwriter-actress opens up about the real story behind the album — a near-engagement blowout on a video set, a breakup that sent her Jamaican fiancé back home, and how therapy alone couldn't fix what life put them through. She breaks down the moment she knew Jay was her soulmate (hint: it happened at her father's funeral), why she almost didn't tell him about her Tyler Perry role, and how being an artist in a committed relationship means constantly navigating between your calling and your partner's comfort. The girls also get into the sneaky link conversation with Jordy Jor, the difference between a crash out and a bump, what happened when Inayah first played the album for Jay in the dark with candles, and why she still won't let Jay watch the Sugar Daddy video. Plus — circumcision discourse, Apple's new anti-phone-snatching feature, celibacy rosters, the rule about f***ing on the first night, and a 2027 Jamaican wedding that the whole Lip Service team just got invited to. Therapy Wasn't Enough is out now. The wedding is in Jamaica. You're going.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on This Can't Be Real with Brad, things somehow get even more chaotic as Brad reacts to a funeral turning into a full-blown family inheritance battle before grandma was even buried. Relatives are fighting over recliners, air fryers, and casserole dishes while Uncle Randy nearly throws hands in the parking lot beside the hearse. Then Brad dives into the story of a cheating husband whose own pet parrot exposed his affair by repeatedly yelling another woman's name around the house like a feathery FBI informant. The bird becomes the ultimate snitch, turning a tropical pet into relationship-ending evidence. And finally, Brad breaks down the story of a criminal trying to hide from police in a restaurant ceiling… only to crash through the tiles into the women's restroom like WWE's Undertaker making an entrance nobody asked for.Along the way, Brad goes on hilarious tangents about Southern funerals, Tyler Perry movie energy, parrots living forever, raccoon-level hiding spots, and why no criminal plan should involve ceiling tiles above a toilet.

Despite warnings from her friends Ashley and Leticia, Joy is really into a dude named Colton. They don't think he's just that into her. So, when Colton invites her to Colorado to meet his family and hints that he has an important question to ask, Joy is convinced a proposal is coming. But, when she arrives in Colorado, she finds out that Colton's big question is "will you be my best woman cuz I'm getting marrrieddddd". Humiliated and heartbroken, Joy jumps out the window into a worsening snowstorm, determined to return home. She gets to the airport but a bad snowstorm has grounded all the flights. So she rents the last car available and attempts to drive it but gets lost and drives onto a frozen lake which cracks! She falls in. She's about to die. But she wakes up in a cabin and meets Ridge Phillips, a rugged outdoorsman living in a remote mountain cabin. I think it's safe to say that Joy and Ridge clash over their vastly different lifestyles. After she fixes a quilt that she accidentally ripped that was made by his late mother, they begin to open up about their personal disappointments, family struggles, and broken hearts. Joy's friends launch a desperate search for her. They call Colton and he's like I don't know where she is! So the search is on! Back at the cabin, wouldn't you know it, I think they're starting to like each other. After a night of drinking and talking, they kiss biggg ones and who knows what else. The next morning, the storm clears and she's like well I oughta be heading out which makes him real sad given their night together. They get to the main road and the sheriff's office are pulling up with their friends in the car. Colton is also there and is like my bad. Ridge starts walking back to his cabin without even saying goodbye. Back in New York, Joy comes back to work and is promptly fired because her friends emailed Patrick's boss proof of him stealing her designs. Naturally they fire her instead of him. Ridge shows up unexpectedly, determined to tell her what he should have said before she left Colorado. He tells her that he loves her! They kiss BIG ONESSSS! She tells him that she wants to go to Colorado with him. Before they leave, she gets called back into the office. They offer her Patrick's job. She gets her own line. She says this isn't what I want for my life anymore. But after talking it over with Ridge, he helps her realize that she's just scared. So she goes and takes the job and then next thing you know, her and Ridge get married in Colorado! Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? In this first installment of the five-part “Survivor GOAT” series, Rob and Mike dig deep into Tony's path from Cagayan chaos to winner's circle in Winners at War. The episode launches with Mike making the case for Tony as the greatest of all time, spotlighting Tony's adaptability, boldness, and game-breaking creativity—like burying himself to eavesdrop in Tribal Council and masterminding the “spy shack.” The discussion highlights pivotal moments, including Tony's dominant win in Winners at War against a stacked cast of returning champions and his unpredictable run in Cagayan. Rob, tasked with playing devil's advocate, challenges whether Tony's gameplay is truly repeatable and questions the role of luck, social mishaps, and key relationships—like his unique bond with Sarah Lacina—in Tony's success. Key topics on the table include: – Tony's “lions vs. hyenas” strategy and its impact on the Winners at War dynamics – The wild swings and frenetic moves of Tony's Cagayan run, including idol plays and the infamous “top five, baby” celebration – The influence of production twists like the Tyler Perry idol and Tony's clever manipulation of idol rules – The social relationships that helped (and sometimes hurt) Tony, with special focus on Sarah Lacina and Trish Hegarty – Debating if Tony's high-risk, high-reward style could work in different Survivor eras Rob and Mike examine whether Tony's legendary moments and outsized personality truly add up to GOAT status, or if his record-setting wins simply belong to the big moves era alone. Gillian Flynn's novel Gone Girl defined a literary niche when it first came out in 2012, and it still defines it to this day. David Fincher's great 2014 adaptation—written in collaboration with Flynn—is one of the greatest and most fun movie thrillers of the 21st century. Now I want to present you with a terrifying scenario: What if this book had come out three years later, and instead of this glorious 2.5-hour film, we got a boring 12-hour streaming series? Come on, you can see it right now in your mind: Episode 3 is a flashback to Amy's life as a child, with none of the regular actors in it. Episode 9 is the Desi episode, and Amy finally arrives at his door right before the closing credits. No thank you. And so 1-Week Rental is here to take you through the history of that movie. How Gillian Flynn wrote her novel and then worked closely with Fincher on the production, how perfect the casting of both Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike was, how Reese Witherspoon produced the movie with the intention of playing Amazing Amy herself only to be told by Fincher she was all wrong for the part, and how this movie is loosely based on the lives of Laci Roth and Matt Stokes. What if the most powerful moves in business happen BEFORE you even walk into the room? Jeremy Zimmer built one of Hollywood's most dominant agencies from a boutique small business to a global empire by understanding one thing: deals are won or lost long before anyone sits down to negotiate. Jeremy Zimmer is the co-founder and former CEO of United Talent Agency (UTA), representing names like Christopher Nolan, M. Night Shyamalan, Charlize Theron, Harrison Ford, and Samuel L. Jackson. He started in the William Morris mailroom after flunking out of college and getting stabbed working a parking lot. He built UTA into a powerhouse through 19 acquisitions in 13 years, stood up to Harvey Weinstein before anyone else would, and spent decades competing ruthlessly with Ari Emanuel while staying profitable. In this conversation, he breaks down how to spot real talent, how to win deals before they start, and why taste will always matter more than execution. You'll learn: Why the best agents can spot creative genius in 10 pages and what separates taste from execution Why getting rid of toxic high performers makes companies stronger even when it feels terrifying How competing with Ari Emanuel for decades taught him to emulate the best and ignore the rest Why talent is becoming landlords and how 50 Cent and Tyler Perry are rewriting the Hollywood playbook The future of Hollywood: consolidation, AI, and why the platforms are the real competition now Start your newsletter today with beehiiv! A Note from James:This is why I love doing podcasts—talking to people like Dr. Sheena Howard, author of Why Wakanda Matters. Wakanda is the country where Black Panther is from, and Sheena has written extensively about comics, including work on Black Panther itself. We talk about comics, race, and storytelling. I asked a question I was almost afraid to ask—whether the Black Panther movie was racist against other Black people—and she gave a surprising answer. We also talk about a time she was abducted in Jamaica, along with a lot of other topics.I loved this conversation. Please listen. Episode Description:James sits down with Dr. Sheena Howard—scholar, comic book writer, and Eisner Award winner—for a conversation that moves between pop culture, publishing, and personal survival. They use Black Panther as a lens to examine how stories shape identity, how representation evolves, and why cultural narratives are often filtered through systems that weren't built to support them. Sheena breaks down the tension between nationalism and isolationism in Wakanda, and why audiences interpret the same story in radically different ways. The conversation also goes deeper—into how gatekeeping works in publishing today, how creators can bypass it, and why building your own audience may be the most reliable path forward. And then there's the story she didn't tell for years: being abducted at 19. What happened, why she stayed silent, and what it reveals about psychology, fear, and resilience. This episode is about storytelling—but also about control: who has it, who doesn't, and how to take it back. What You'll Learn:Why “Black superheroes don't sell” is a myth—and how the industry perpetuates it anywayThe real gatekeeping mechanism in publishing today (and why audience ownership matters more than ever)How subtle bias shows up now—not in obvious barriers, but in shifting goalpostsWhat makes a story resonate across audiences (and why Black Panther worked at scale)The psychology of abusive situations—and how awareness and boundaries are built over timeTimestamped Chapters:[03:04] A Note from James[03:53] Favorite Superheroes: From Captain America to Black Panther[04:27] Why Black Panther Connected Culturally[04:43] The $1.2B Question: Why So Late for Black Superheroes?[05:17] Luke Cage, Netflix, and the “Myth” That Black Stories Don't Sell[05:39] Tyler Perry and the “Outlier” Problem[06:23] Pressure on Black-Led Films to Be Perfect[07:00] What Wakanda Represents (Uncolonized Possibility)[07:53] Killmonger: Anger, Oppression, and Relatability[08:23] MLK vs. Malcolm X Parallel in Black Panther[09:00] Identity Formation: African vs. African American Perspectives[09:47] Are Black Superheroes Designed to “Feel Safe”?[10:28] Gentrification, Stereotypes, and Media Influence[11:50] Media Isn't “Just Entertainment”[12:00] Early Representation and Cultural Messaging[12:28] Who Created Black Panther—and Why That Matters[13:07] Rewriting History: What Would She Change?[13:49] Designing a Modern Black Superhero[14:47] Why a Modern Hero Might Be “Invisible”[15:44] Publishing Barriers and Gatekeeping Conversations[16:36] Social Media vs. Traditional Publishing Access[17:26] Building 163K Followers—and Still Not Enough[21:47] The Instagram Post: “I Was Abducted at 19”[22:11] How It Started: Cheap Tour, No Money, Bad Decision[23:05] The Trap: Locked House and Escalation[25:00] Refusal and Survival Strategy[26:02] Car Crash and Escape Attempt[27:00] Walking Away and Getting Home[28:30] Why She Stayed Silent for Years[29:20] Abusive Relationships and Self-Blame[30:26] Leaving Abuse: The Role of Her Son[31:06] Love Bombing and Early Warning Signs[33:02] Recognizing Red Flags in Relationships[35:45] Teaching Kids Boundaries and Self-Worth[37:21] “Is Wakanda Racist?”—The Big Question[38:00] Nationalism vs. Racism Explained[39:00] Isolationism vs. Imperialism[41:00] Why Some Black Superheroes Don't Break Out[43:00] The Loss (and Survival) of Great Storytelling[46:14] How She Got Hired by Marvel (Cold Email + PI)[48:29] Why Pitching Ideas to Marvel Often Fails[50:00] Cold Outreach: Being Seen Before Heard[52:00] Do You Need Social Media to Sell Books?
