At the request of (and joined by!) previous TCBCast guest (and fellow Patreon supporter) Olivia Murphy-Rogers, we look back at the #1 UK & Australia album, which is now 8 years old as of this recording, along with the bonus tracks from the expanded deluxe version of the album, to see if it has held up. Bec also joins Justin and Olivia, wanting to make sure someone was around to stick up for one of her all-time favorites, bonus track "What Now My Love." Justin briefly tackles the title theme for Elvis' 1960 western film "Flaming Star" and its earlier iteration "Black Star" as Song of the Week, while Olivia digs deep on the bluesy fan favorite "Don't Leave Me Now," that featured on the soundtracks for both "Loving You" (which it wasn't in) and "Jailhouse Rock" (which it was!) 2014 saw Australian comic Celia Pacquola return to Edinburgh for her fourth Fringe Show. ‘Let Me Know How It All Worked Out' looked at the world of psychics and their promise of foretelling the future; specifically one who said she would never have children. (Spoiler… congratulations are in order, Celia and her partner had their first child earlier this year,). Since the Fringe Pacquola moved frequently between the UK Australia, with various apeprances, scriptwriting, and starring appearances in a wide range of shows on the circuit, including radio work on Fox FM and Radio 4, TV work on Would I Lie To You, Live At The Apollo, and Have You Been Paying Attention, and staring in Rosehaven, and The Breaker Uppers. All that was ahead of her in 2014 when she joined me in the podcast studio to talk about her show. It wasn't the first time she'd been on the Fringe podcast, so the whole ‘tell us about your show' quickly descended into discussions of synchronised diving, Tom Daley, Pro/Am contest, and a love of Converse trainers. This week's trip is back to the Gilded Ballon, back to a time when the future we live in now was quite definitely not going to happen, as Celia Pacquola asks the audience to Let Me Know How It All Works Out,

British-Australian, Georgia Marnham, is an Iyengar yoga instructor whose story is full of twists and turns and fateful events that caused her to make dramatic shifts in her life's direction, including country moves with extreme consequences: When in Sri Lanka, the 2004 tsunami struck; while living in Johannesburg, and with 2 young babies, her home was violently burgled; in Brazil, she and her husband chose to live in an isolated eco village in Bahia where Georgia was often solo-parenting her 3 young children while her husband traveled. Georgia credits her success navigating these challenging circumstances, including the impact of surviving a near-fatal car accident as a 20-year-old, with her daily yoga practice, saying that it's the reason for her spiritual, psychological and physical well being.
On the podcast today, Steph sits down with Melbourne-based British urban contemporary artist Mysterious Al, one of the artists active during the UK's early street art wave, gaining fame from his work and the epic illegal street exhibitions he put on with some of today's most famous street artists. Famous since the 2000s for his street art, Al sat on the artistic extremes. A street art practice that suited only the streets and a professional illustration career polished and far from the art he dreamt of creating. In recent years, Al kicked his corporate career to the curb and worked to create his own unique style, rejecting the perfect lines, and typical practises of artists to instead strip it all back, ripping paper to shreds and finding inspiration with the pieces on the floor, creating collages that would turn into artworks, discovering a process to build his own artistic language that's unmistakably Mysterious Al. Today, we talk about that journey, the exhilarating process of messing shit up to find the art in the pieces and his insane exhibition, Spookhouse, which almost cost him his house deposit and literally gave him a hernia. Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Natasha Natasha is a mama of two from South Africa, currently living in Australia. Her first birth was in London 4 years ago. She planned to birth at a birth centre but ended up having a water birth in the hospital, as the birth center was full on the night. It was a natural birth but it wasn't all that Natasha wanted it to be. So with her second one year ago in Melbourne, Australia, she chose another path. She started off going through the hospital system, but didn't feel supported or trusting of the system so she hired a doula. She then watched the documentary BirthTime and felt sure she didn't want to birth at the hospital. So she shifted and chose a private midwife at 28 weeks pregnant. She ended up giving birth to her baby the night before her due date, in the water, at home with her wonderful birthing team while her first born slept through it all and woke up soon after she birthed the placenta. That night was absolute magic and she didn't want it to end. Curious about Natasha? Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: CEA's Community Events Programme: Update and Call for Applications, published by OllieBase on July 13, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. TL;DR: CEA's Events team funds and supports community members who want to run events. Apply to run an event here! The Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) Events team now has 3 programmes: EA Global — organising large conferences for those significantly involved in EA. Retreats — organising retreats for community leaders and other select retreats. Community Events — funding and supporting events run by community members, such as EAGx conferences. CEA has supported EAGx conferences since 2016. EAGx events primarily aim to engage and connect community members – both highly-engaged and those just starting to explore EA – in a certain region. EA Global conferences are usually larger and aim to help highly-engaged EAs from around the world network and share ideas. At the start of this year, we expanded the type of events we support beyond EAGx conferences to include other events community members wanted to run. This post is an update on that programme, which is now called Community Events. I, Ollie, run the Community Events Programme (henceforth, CEP). Goals The goal of the CEP is to help significantly scale up the number of high-quality, EA-aligned events. Secondarily, by supporting different types of events run by community members around the world, we hope to learn more about how events can help people have more impact and feed these lessons into our own work on EA Global and retreats. We're currently early on in our testing phase, but expect to learn more over the course of the year. To support events at scale, we provide community members with flexible funding, high-level advice and, where appropriate, free access to the resources we use for our own events (e.g. Zoho, which supports our application systems, and Swapcard, our event networking app). We also pay organisers for their time working on the event. The amount of advice we offer varies depending on the size of the event and the experience of the organisers - in many cases (e.g. small retreats), we act more like a grantmaker than an advisor. Community Events in 2022 so far 10 community events supported by CEA have taken place in 7 different countries so far this year: EAGxOxford (Oxford, UK) EAGxBoston (Boston, MA, US) EAGxPrague (Prague, Czech Republic) EAGxAustralia (Canberra, Australia) EA South Germany Retreat (Tubingen, Germany) EA Midwest "Next Steps" Retreat (Lake Geneva, WI, US) Strategic Philanthropy and Altruism Conference (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Open Workshop on Global Priorities Research (Oxford, UK) EAecon retreat (Oxford, UK) Australia and New Zealand Group Leaders Retreat (Goulburn, Australia) The likelihood to recommend scores for these events were consistently high (all over 8/10). We also have some evidence that high-impact connections were made at these events. For example: One EAGxOxford attendee reported that they made connections which helped them shape their next steps in upskilling in AI Safety. They applied for the SERI Fellowship and the ML Safety Scholars program, and were accepted into both. They think it's 10% likely they would've applied to SERI and 60% likely they would've applied for the ML program if they didn't attend EAGxOxford and EAG London. One EAGxBoston attendee reported that the contacts they made at the conference (who they probably would not have met otherwise) were worth ~$5 million in donations to the organisation they worked for (and we think that this claim is credible, based on this person's position). One EAGxPrague attendee was offered and accepted a job with unexpectedly high fit at the conference. These examples are illustrative of the kind of impact EA events can have on community members, though please note tha...

There are concerns that the UK-Australia trade deal will be detrimental to farmers here in the UK, by allowing Australian imports produced to a lower standard into the country. Ministers asked the Trade and Agricultural Commission to scrutinise the agreement to establish the impact the deal will have on the UK, and the TAC has just released its report. It concludes that these worries are 'overblown'. This week we're talking to new entrants about getting into the farming industry and hearing how one of the hardest parts can be finding land. The government hopes that offering English farmers £100,000 to retire will help, as part of it's Lump Sum Exit scheme. Some farmers contemplating the scheme say it's not quite that simple, but the Tenant Farmers' Association think for farmers renting their land, it could be a way in to the industry. And on the theme of new entrants, we meet some young men learning to drive tractors in Lincolnshire and a young woman speaking to us from a lambing shed in Exmoor, about her own journey into farming. Emily Davis was first advised to study architecture, but instead chose farming despite no family links to agriculture. She says experience abroad can be a great way into agriculture. Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced for BBC Audio by Caitlin Hobbs

The Government claims the Australian trade deal will help more than hinder, but farming groups aren't so sure. The Environment Food and Rural Affairs committee of cross-party MPs has been scrutinising the new UK-Australia trade deal. On the one hand, the Government says it'll increase the size of the UK economy by £2.3 billion, but there are concerns this will be done by cutting import tax tariffs on Australian goods making them cheaper, and the Government's own analysis also shows domestic agriculture, forestry and fisheries will lose £94 million as a result of the deal. We hear about a combination of Countryfile and Top Gear: BBC 3's new tractor racing show which starts this evening, The Fast and The Farmer-ish. As part of our week looking at livestock markets, we hear how the Livestock Auctioneers Association is attracting young blood into the trade, running courses which attract 15 trainees a year. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
Trade minister Dan Tehan says the new UK-Australia free trade agreement allows for tariffs on a vast range of products, including lamb, beef, sugar and dairy to be eliminated or phased out.

President Biden recently made a nuclear submarine deal with the UK and Australia to counter China's military influence in the Pacific. But what does that mean for future trade deals that could counter the communist country's economic influence? Ian Johnson with the Council on Foreign Relations chatted with Boyd about what the US has to balance to be in the best position possible. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The US, UK, and Australia are teaming up against China in a new alliance called AUKUS. Of course, the leaders of these countries won't outright say that's the reason, but that's the reason. In this episode of China Unscripted, we talk about the US leading the world on China messaging, what could happen if China takes Taiwan, and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott's trip to Taiwan, among other things. Joining us in this episode is Lincoln Parker, the chair of Australia's Liberal Party defence policy branch.

As China is continuing to grow its influence in the Indo-Pacific, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia have come together to announce a new partnership: AUKUS. The security partnership is aimed at boosting their defences to counter the Chinese influence in the region. Under the partnership, the US will also provide the technology for Australia to build nuclear-powered submarines - a move that is being criticised by many countries. So, with all its controversy, is the AUKUS pact a net positive or a risk for peace and security? Guests: John Blaxland Professor of International Security and Intelligence Studies at Australian National University Xu Qinduo China Affairs Analyst Paul Ingram Expert on Nuclear Disarmament and the Director of Emergent Change LTD
Australia had announced in 2016 that French company DCNS had beat out bidders from Japan and Germany to build the next generation of submarines in Australia's largest-ever defense contract. Top French officials made clear they were unhappy with the deal, which undercuts the DCNS deal. “The American choice to exclude a European ally and partner such as France from a structuring partnership with Australia, at a time when we are facing unprecedented challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, whether in terms of our values or in terms of respect for multilateralism based on the rule of law, shows a lack of coherence that France can only note and regret,” French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and defense minister Florence Parly said in a joint statement. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/salisburyobserver/message

China denounces US-UK-Australia defence pact. The pact will see the US and UK provide Australia with the technology to build nuclear-powered submarines for the first time. The accord is being widely viewed as an effort to counter China's influence in the contested South China Sea. China says the new alliance is part of a "cold-war mentality. Also in the programme, four amateur astronauts are currently orbiting the earth in the first flight of its kind without a professional astronaut on board. Thank you so much for tuning into episode 46. One of the main selling points of Brexit was that it would allow the United Kingdom to strike free trade deals with other nations. But, is it a good deal? We unpack the details and the controversy surrounding it. #economicsecho to join in the conversation

Today on The Leaders' Brief - The COVID situation for India remains dire, and Prime Minister Modi, known for maintaining excellent bilateral ties with countries across the world, has requested all allies for medical aid. The USA, under President Joe Biden, has agreed to lift restrictions for the supply of vaccine-making materials to India after initially refusing to do the same. Among other countries, France will send medical equipment, ventilators, liquid oxygen containers and oxygen generators to India. French President Emmanuel Macron announced in a tweet written in Hindi on Tuesday, that France and India have always remained united and the country is doing all it can to help. Several residents continue to flee Somalia's capital Mogadishu after a clash broke out between opposition forces and the government after a disagreement over elections. Fighting began last Sunday between pro-Government forces and opposition military units after the country's President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed moved to extend his term, which had officially ended in February, for another two years. The clashes which began at the capital Mogadishu have spread to other parts, and the political instability created could see extremist groups like Al Shabaab exploit the situation. The UK and Australia have agreed on "the vast majority" of a post-Brexit free trade deal after talks last week, according to a joint statement by the two countries. The two countries said that they aim to conclude a deal by June. Part of the joint statement read: "Both countries are confident the remaining issues will be resolved, and will now enter a sprint to agree on the outstanding details with the aim of reaching an agreement in principle." The development comes at a crucial time for Australia as it seeks to decrease trade dependency on China, with whom it shares the largest trade volume. Another episode of Faster Than Normal is coming your way and it is sponsored by absolutely no one. I don't put ads on most episodes, so you can get the full enjoyment of the episode itself. Welcome to Faster Than Normal, my name is Peter Shankman. I am happy to have you here, as always today, we are talking about ADHD, about productivity. We're talking about how everything can be a gift if you just learn to use it well, and we're talking about it with a man who's calling us in from India. His name is Y K. Honestly, his initials for names, he's just like VIN diesel or XXX, Madonna. He is a unique business coach. He's a strategy consultant. He focused on turning around companies and helping them with all around growth. His strengths come from working with companies internally for over two decades, and he runs a fun little business consulting firm called http://neostrategy.in/neoplanner/http://neostrategy.in/about-yk/ and he sent me something called the http://neostrategy.in/neoplanner/ which is a pretty cool planning and productivity book, we’re gonna talk about that. He comes up with unique ideas to help himself and his clients, that's his super power. Welcome to the podcast YK, good to have you. Hi Peter, thank you. Glad that glad to have you here, man. So tell us what prompted you to understand your ADHD and, and learn about it, in such a way that you realize you could actually help people with it. Yeah, sure. This is a topic I'm really, really passionate about. Uh, so this goes back like, uh, probably a decade or even before. Uh, so I always, it's almost like, I would say since childhood. I felt that there is something different and unique about me, but I never could understand what is the difference, OK? So growing up in the career, I worked in a lot of IT consulting companies, so I was doing all right, but, uh, the more and more, uh, you know, as I was growing up, I could see that there are some things, uh, are unique with me. Like for example, that I'm sitting in a group of people, um, the way everybody thinks versus the way I think used to be different, but then I always used to, uh, you know, uh, shy away, stay back thing, thinking that maybe what I'm thinking is not right. But apparently what were the thoughts that I was getting later? I could come out. Uh, I can see that somebody else is, uh, you know, bringing them as ideas. So I used to get a lot of ideas, thoughts, and try to be unique and even in, from childhood, right? So I'll give you an example. So the subjects, which are very easy for everyone, I used to get bored. OK things like mathematics physics, which used to create a lot of interest in me. So I used to solve them and they used to get a lot of interest. So I was always curious, there's something wrong with me, or there's something different with me, uh, which is not usually with the group of people. OK so that is what actually led me into more and more, um, and sometime, while I was in the US for around eight to nine years period, I’d gone through little bit of a down period. That is when I started reading, I considered different people, like could not get the right answers. Then slowly I realized the whole game that I was going to is dopamine game. OK, iIt took unfortunately a decade of time for me to figure it out, figure it out on my own. Uh, but then I'm glad that I found that. And, uh, later I realized after I realized that this is what I have and I went on and find my own strengths, what I'm to get. And that's where my journey started. Let me, let me ask you a question though, because wasn't that, um, you know, growing up, being different and getting bored, didn't that get you in trouble? Weren't you, you know, did you have, like, parents were like, why can't you just focus? Why can't you pay attention? You know, that's a lot of our, a lot of our listeners that talked about that, being a huge problem. Yeah, that's interesting. But in my case, what happened was, um, I, I, I grew up from a very small village in India. And I was for that village. Uh, you know, I was the, in the school, I was the topper, but then what people never realized was let's say if my capability would have been a hundred percent for the effort I was putting, I was only getting, let's say 80 or 75. OK, so obviously used to think that there is a, there is a, there is a gap between what I could do versus what I'm able to do that under it underachievement or the missing achievement part was there. But since I was, I came from a very small village. Uh, my standards there itself was very high. So people thought I was a super, uh, uh, I was doing very well, but then inside of me, I knew that I am a lot more capable than than what I was delivering. You see what I'm saying? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. That does make a lot of sense. So as you, as you grew, and as you became an adult and you started in the, in the, in the corporate world, you know, in, in, in, in getting a job and everything, were you at any point working for a company where you're like, I just don't fit in this doesn't work for me. Oh, yeah, absolutely, absolutely. So that is the pull together, right? So actually this is what, so in United States for around eight, nine years and the UK who is a UK Australia. And so while I was in the customer facing roles, while I was doing the more of a consulting sales kind of roles, I was doing fine.I was able to feel that I was fitting there, but then around 2010 ish, 10 time, I came back to India and once I came back to India, I was actually, uh, you know, uh, {indistinguishable} refers to do rules,???which are more like, uh, you know, near the more of a things which needs a lot of attention to details. And a lot of, uh, you know, uh, very detailed work, which is not my strength, OK, I had to struggle a lot. That is when actually I started really, uh, you know, talking a bit, uh, saying that this is not, I'm not, I was, I was totally, every year I started feeling that I was not fitting into the culture, I was not fitting into the kind of work. And one of the other things was, I don't know if this is common with all the people with ADHD type of a brain. Uh, freedom is one of the top notch value systems for me so the more I was growing in the corporate world, the lesser I was getting the freedom, OK, so that combined with the, the misfit of my strengths with, to whatever the work was given and, uh, and the, you know, misalignment of my freedom, and that was completely knocked me off, that is when I actually discover my strengths and they started my own consulting firm called Use Strategy. That's been my happy journey or my real true self, uh, started, uh, coming out. Makes sense. Um, when you went out on your own, did you receive any pushback? Um, I know that when I started and a lot of people who started realize they just had to do this, uh, if they didn't have a family that was used to that, or, you know, didn't come from an entrepreneurial family, you know, it, it was difficult. It was, you know, how are you, how are you, what are you going to do? How are you going to survive? This is not what we do. Did you encounter any of that? Yeah, yeah, fortunately actually in my situation, it's the other way around because my wife is actually very, very supportive to me and she has seen me very closely and she always wanted me to be happy and she thinks that I have a lot of capabilities, but I never believed in, so honestly, uh, so she was very supportive. And, uh, and at the same time, since I kind of scientifically know about my strengths, I did a good amount of a piloting and experimenting before I jumped in fully, OK, one of my strengths is called strategic. So I used my own strategic in my career transition and I did a lot of pilots, before I actually made some money, uh, you know, I made some money before I took the final decision. So it was like a good, good amount of experimentation I have done. And I got the confidence. Of course I did go through a little bit of anxiety and stress, but from a family point of view, there is a complete support to me, so that was, I was lucky enough in that way. Makes a lot of sense. And actually what I feel, uh, Peter is that, uh, I... I feel doing this is much easier for me now instead of continuing in my corporate work. So I feel now because I'm playing to my complete strengths and then living my values of freedom am completely, you know, really cherishing every day, and I do a fantastic amount of, uh, I feel so, great work, at least I feel for my clients. So it's every day is a looking forward day. You know, I, I don't have any {indistinguishable}or anything, so I'm really enjoying what I'm doing. Well, I think that's one of the benefits is that when you finally do find it, not only when you love what you do, but when you realize that what you're doing, um, benefits you and other people, it just changes everything. It makes you feel so much better. Well, absolutely, absolutely the best. I think, see, this is one thing I will tell you, Peter, so lot of for ADHD people and, uh, you know, people say that know your strengths per you have two strengths, but I think the challenge is most people do not know how to find the strength scientifically, OK In my case, I could go through the process scientifically. I really know what I'm good at. And I puts... it took a lot of time and once to latch on to your strengths, I think you'll supergift. So until then it could be struggled. So that is one of the, my key message. Uh, you know, the point I wanted to share with people is that, and I think for it specifically for ADHD, people, strengths is the only weapon they have, OK, because the moment you try to focus on the gender things, you lose the game. So you should, we all should know how to find our own strength scientific way so that we can play very, very powerful game. I think, obviously, as great as it sounds, you know, there's always, uh, it's never perfect. Right. So tell us about sort of the, some of the problems that you have or how you adjust them or the things that you know, drive... still drive you crazy. Yeah, I think so. One thing I can tell you is that, um, I don't know about others, but I have figured out on my own, the whole crux of the, the formula. Okay. Uh, in fact, I'll share you sharing my one other . I have. I have found with this whole dopamine magic and the game a little ahead of the game. So basically I have a neat a very nice diagram called Viagra. There's a left side of the V and there is a right side of the left side of his V the destructive way of getting the dopamine through addictions and all those nonsense, the right side of the, uh, viz, the, all these good things like exercise, meditation, yoga, uh, you know, doing great work creative or problem solving those things. So. I started, uh, you know, mass mastering the whole art of Dopamine very well. So. As long as I'm managing my Dopamine very well. I don't get into any issues. Okay. The days or times when I actually miss my document management, that is when I will, I will know that I've. So no, uh, I would say that I'm pretty consistent, uh, uh, Peter with my routine. I know I do regular, uh, meditation and regular exercise, some form or the other. So these things will keep me my Dopamine, {indistinguishable} almost like this every morning I fill my Dopamine, and then I play my game. So the days when I don't feel my Dopamine, I know that it's not going to be great day. Tell me about your, um, daily routine. Yep. So I basically wanting it is almost like from last one and a half year been pretty consistent. I wake up at 6, and 6:15, I have online yoga, yoga. So it goes for, for, uh, one hour. Uh it's...it changed me in life really very well. The consistent yoga practice, then I do 45 minutes of, uh, meditation. I think I cost close to 550 or 600 hours of meditation now. So it's, this is consistent. And during weekends I go for long runs, a little bit of weight training, but almost all seven days, the first two hours of my day, between six o'clock to eight, o'clock it just. Uh, goes into my schedule. Then I do my new planner. I sent you, right. I do 10 minutes of new planning, uh, because that, that really keeps me on the track. Then what I do is the basically divide the day into two parts. Okay. Two parts is basically one is the strategic zone. The other is the operations zone, the strategy zone is the zone where I create, like, basically I'll be working on business, like creating intellectual property or doing some design or creating some, offering, creating some methodology after that, the negative to my consulting and coaching calls. That's the way I divide my day. Okay, and what happens when things go off track? Because you know, like I said, it's not always perfect. So what happens when things go off track? How do you get yourself back on the right course? Yeah, it's a good thing. Right? So I have a lot of hacks, and one of the hacks I follow is that I wear my shoes and go for a jog for a 5… 5K. So I know as I told you, right, my, the whole trick, is I know there is nothing I need to blame or look for or analyze that thing all I know, is that the moment that things are not going well,, I know that my Dopamine is getting imbalanced, I just do some kind of an exercise and I’ll get it back. How do you, yeah. And I'm sorry, go ahead. Yeah, exercise is one of my hack. I get back, um, uh, to, to the class. So basically refill my, my Dopamine, either, it is exercise and meditation, and then I get back to my track. How do you explain to people who might not have ADHD or understand the things that we go through? Why do you... do some of the things you do, or do you just simply not care? No, I don't care, actually. So this is interesting, right? So this is in fact a frustration and I'm an, I'm a person I'm not so much keen on making a social moment on these things, but then I, what frustrates me, I'll tell you again, I it's, it may be different in different countries, except for example, in, um, in India or even not just in India, in some of the other places also, thatI speak about ADHD, right? Uh, in fact, I was talking to somebody, someone, one of my client today with ADHD. The first thing that they say is that, Oh, it's for kids, you don't have ADHD. They don't understand what ADHD is. Second, they think that, oh, this is some attention problem. The third thing they say is that, yeah, everybody's distracted. So I feel, Oh my God, you can, you have no idea what you're talking about. So kind of what I realized, uh, Peter is that, it is very difficult to explain to a non {indistinguishable} person about ADHD. OK, so what do you wind up telling them? Okay. I mean, normally I don't tell them anything, so I just tell them that if at all, if somebody is that, why are you doing all these things? Uh, I mean, why do, why do you need to be so particular about rituals? You don't, I don't take certain things and all those things. I just say I have a different kind of a brain. I need to just manage it. Okay. It's not a disease, it's not a disorder, it's just the creative. It's the creative gene. It's like I say, it's a hunger gene, so that gene needs to be managed {indistinguishable} I like that. It's not a disease. It's not a disorder. I like that. No, it’s not a disease, We can see the thing that what I, uh, what I always still I'm still trying to figure it out is I sometimes ask that by nature, the knee did, the nature has actually created this kind of a brain and structure. Or is it not… because it, if the nature has not created that kind of a structure, I'm not sure whether this much of this much innovation and creativity would be possible in the world. I sometimes feel like I take it as a by design. Some people are, are, are like this. I think we should accept it. Try to manage the simple metaphor I have is, it is today,,,, I call it, the roses with thorns. You need to manage how to, uh, you need to manage the thorns and appreciate about a rose. We are like a roses with thorns. That's a great, that's a great, I love it. That's a great analogy. Talk about your Neo planner. All right. So this new planet, I honestly, I had created because of my own, uh, this whole focus and, uh, you know, the, the distraction issues. I was looking for a lot of, uh, uh, planners, uh, a to-do list, kind of a thing. Uh, Peter. So I bought a lot of, uh, general planners and they tried a lot of apps, these that, but no way, actually they did not know where they gave me a comprehensive way of managing myself. Okay. So what I meant is that. So then when we talk about the productivity data, right? What is the people who will say it, say, Oh, you have a task and you do it. But I never build the concept because it's not about tasks, right? I can come, I can wake up and finish five tasks, but that's not just the complete thing, rght? So this is where I designed the concept. Okay. After researching so many of them, I got really frustrated because I was not getting what kind of planning planner I want. Right. I went, created the framework. You can see that in the planner, it's there on pyramid. It is called neo-productivity. Neo-productivity is basically a full layer, uh, uh, you know, uh, productivity management tool. Basically you have to manage your life productivity. What is life productivity? Life productivity is about having the right values, right beliefs, right? Purpose for your life. Those things, all the other natures land belief system you should have because you... maybe you'll be doing a hundred great tasks. What if you feel that a value system is completely screwed up, right. That's... that's not productivity, right? So you cannot just measure a person's productivity, just by a number of tasks. So one, iis the life productivity then comes to the mind productivity, your ability to do deep work, your ability to create... to create, to work. All those things has pumped into the mind productivity. Right? How, how, how much might your mind is focused? We'll do a report. Then it comes to the strengths productivity. This is where all of us, we are born with some unique talents. Right? So you need to basically see how much of your talents or strengths are you able to leverage? That's what strengths product with it. Once you attack in the life, productivity, mind productivity and strengths productivity, then comes to the task productivity. If you manage the first three layers, task productivity become very natural. You know, subs and phenomena actually OK, to be taken care of, so, whereas the entire world talks, talks about only task productivity. So that is when I created this structure and they designed this. In fact, honestly, I created this for myself later on. A lot of my clients, uh, used it and they found it very useful. That is when I kind of created as a product. So it is really beneficial. Um, it really, I would say it's, I don't remember the word, but definitely one of the, one of the first planet, which comprehensively oxable your life, mind strengths, task productivity. It is a complete, uh, handle of your whole life. That that's the, that's the beauty about this planet. (18:45) I love it. I love it. Awesome. YK, how can people find more about you? FULL TRANSCRIPTION: Speaker 1 (00:00): So continuing on the theme of Christmas and getting ready for that today, we are going to talk about things. We can get our kids other than tech, Holy cow, what a concept stay tuned. Speaker 2 (00:16): Welcome to your source for tips, tools, and support to help you be that mom that is tuned in and proactive for yourself, your family, and for the wild ride of raising kids in this digital age, inspired by a mother's love with a relatable, real life. Proud to be that mom flair. This is the bead that mom movement with your host Dolly Denson. Okay. Speaker 1 (00:40): I know about you, but my kids have kind of gone through phases of wanting like all the digital things. And that's like all that we get for Christmas. And this year, I don't know if it's the effects of this whole virus and being at home more or what it is, but their interests are not tech related this year, which is kind of exciting to me, not that tech and the digital things are all bad, but I think if we're not careful, our kids kind of miss out on real life things going on. If all they're doing is sitting, staring at a screen or engaged in a game, I'm not saying that I'm totally against those things, but I think that, you know, if we don't allow our kids to be bored, if we don't allow our kids to have like self discovery and you know, hands-on things interactions in the real world with real people, I think that there is something that's lost there. Speaker 1 (01:30): And so I personally have been trying to encourage more real life experiences and things such as that rather than always talking about, you know, something digitally related. Of course, my kids now are older teens and one is in her early twenties. And so your kids may be younger and you're still in that phase of wanting all the games and digital things. But I wanted to give you a few ideas of a few really cool things that I came across when I was looking at some other things that other ideas of things that we could give our kid other than the traditional things. Okay. So let's talk about those. I have three specific things that I wanted to just share with you, for you to think about that you might consider as an alternative. So the first one is a really cool thing. If you go to scavenger hunt.com, it takes you to a website called lets rome.com. Speaker 1 (02:23): And it was really cool. They have these scavenger hunts set up that you can purchase tickets for them and you are doing it either at home. They have ones where you're at home and you're doing a scavenger hunt in your home, or they have ones where you actually go out in, you know, if you're in a major city or a city, they have cities all over the U S and I believe it's, their website says the UK Australia, a couple of other countries where you say where you're at, and then you get like logged in and they have a scavenger hunt specific for your city. How cool is that? So you could be outdoors in the city, socially distancing if you're doing that. And, you know, having this scavenger hunt where it's just you and your immediate family, the ones that are indoors, they have some options where you can set up and connect with other parts of your family. Speaker 1 (03:12): And it's kind of like a zoom, like thing that you're on to where you do these scavenger hunts together and parts of it. It's like where you call certain people in different things. So it's not real specific on their website. I haven't actually done them myself, but the reviews on them are good. And it sounds like it's really fun. So they have scavenger hunts where you, besides the in-home ones and outdoor ones, they have another one called a ghost hunt and a bar hunt and a zoo hunt. So I imagine those are, you know, maybe at your local zoo, I don't know what the bar is. Surely they're not going to have used a hunt for bars, drinking bars, and then the ghost hunt. I think like some of those might be something related to where, you know, in your city they're said to be ghosts or something like that. Speaker 1 (03:54): So I think I say that phrase, something like that a lot. I've noticed that. So if that's annoying to you, I'm sorry. I'm trying not to say it as much. It's funny when you're on a podcast and your voice is out there, you notice a lot of things that you, little nuances of things that you say that you wouldn't otherwise notice. Cause you don't listen to yourself as much. Like when I play it back, I'm like, why do I always see that? And I've even gotten to where, when I say, um, which most of the time, most of those are edited out. So you don't even hear them, but I can recognize them on the wave form on this podcast, on the recording app that I use and the recording program, I can recognize when I say by the wave form. Is that not sad? Speaker 1 (04:35): Aren't you glad I save you from listening to all those ums. So anyways, the next example of things that you might want to consider as a non-tech thing would be subscriptions. They have subscriptions for different things that could be like self discovery, things like kits, like real life, manipulative kits of different things, depending on the age of your kid would determine what kind you're interested in. I don't have any specific websites to refer you to. I do have one that I may drop in the show notes if I can find it, but basically just search for them. For my husband. Recently, he had his birthday, he likes to drink beer. He likes to brew beer. And so I bought him a brew makers subscription. So it's this, what are they called? Beer places, not winery, but I can't think of it. What is it? A distillery? Speaker 1 (05:22): I'm not sure. Maybe that's for alcohol in general brewery brewery. Can you tell, I have problems with some of my words, forming words with my mouth, a brewery. So I ordered that and he gets a kit every month and it's seasonally appropriate. So it'll be like something that's more for winter during the winter months. And I can cancel it at any time, but it's really cool because it comes with everything that he needs. He already has like the equipment he just needs, like the recipe and the different ingredients. So that's been really cool during the summer time, or I think it was around mother's. I ordered a subscription for my mom and my mom. That was, I wasn't seeing my mother-in-law, but I ended up not ordering her one. I ordered my mom one that was like a dessert a month. So she got like a new dessert shipped to her every month and they were really good. Speaker 1 (06:11): She really enjoyed it. She thought that was such a great gift. And it wasn't like just a one-time I selected three months. And then I was able to give that to her for mother's day, but she got it for three months in a row. So that was kind of cool, but they make these four kids depending on what their interests are. So I would do a search look for some subscription, you know, I would try to make sure that it's not one that you like have to buy, like these multiple ones in case you get it. And you don't like it that, you know, it has an option where you could cancel at any time or cancel after a certain number of subscription boxes or whatever, but that would be another option for you to do so it's something they can look forward to and something that they're actually doing in real life with their hands, with, you know, boredom discovery, all of those things manipulatives in their hands. Speaker 1 (06:55): So that's the second option. And then the last one that I wanted to say was just experiences something where you're actually like out in the world doing something. And I guess scavenger hunts kind of fall into that too. But I'm thinking more along the lines of, you know, just creating something that y'all do together. Last Christmas, we bought all the kids tickets to I fly. I don't know if you have that, where you're at, but it's basically like indoor skydiving. And so our plan was to do that in March or April. And that's when all of this pandemic stuff came down. And so we ended up not doing it and we still have not done it because we bought tickets for all of us, including my daughter's boyfriend, including my other. Daughter's a couple of her friends. So it's a huge coordination for us to all get together, but I've spoken with I fly and they said, our tickets are still good. Speaker 1 (07:47): We've just been kind of trying to ride out and see what happens with this virus. But that was something we were excited about last Christmas. It was going to be something that we did in person that we made memories doing. So that's another thing to think about is to just think about some type of experience in general, and it doesn't even have to cost money. You know, like if you have a place that you like to go hiking, you can say we're all going to go hiking at this certain day and time or something to that effect. So I would just think along those terms of something kind of think outside the box. I think that for me personally, I feel like Christmas has gotten very commercialized and sometimes we kind of lose focus of the point of the season. And so I've tried to pull back this year from spending as much money and also trying to purchase from the smaller businesses and people that may be hurting during this time. Speaker 1 (08:34): So I've been buying stuff off Etsy and, you know, just kind of thinking outside the box of things and not just buying from the big, huge stores that are already getting all of our business, but looking at the smaller places that, you know, trained to stay alive with what they're doing. And I sometimes think that those types of gifts that are more handmade that are more thought out that they're going to be more meaningful longterm. At least they are for when someone gives me something like that, versus just like a gift card. Not that a gift card, can't be thoughtful because if you think about something that, you know, someone likes a gift card can be thoughtful. Not saying that at all, but basically I think tech is okay in giving them digital things. But if you're looking for something outside of the box, something different to give them, I think these are some great options to think about. I hope that you'll check them out and I will put in the show notes, the links for the ones that I have. So you can check those out. So hope this was helpful. Hope you have a happy holiday season and I will chat with you next. Speaker 2 (09:29): Thanks for tuning in being that mom isn't easy, but together we can be that mom's strong. Don't forget to leave a review, connect on social and join Dolly's free community till next time.

It's here, our first UK/Australia episode! This fortnight we catch up on all the crazy things that have happened in the past couple of weeks and then dive into our topic: coping with worry and uncertainty. As two self-confessed life-long worriers we have stirred ourselves up into our fair share of worried states and got worked up about the uncertainty that the future holds. In the past year or so we've become much better at dealing with worry and uncertainty though and we thought it was time that we shared how we've done this and what we do to put a halt on those worrisome thoughts.Get in touch@20sarehard20sarehard@gmail.comFacebook.com/20sarehard@helenabradbury Helenabradbhry.com@charlotte.phoebe charlottephoebe.comReccomendationsJamie Oliver's Meat Free MealsFriends Cafe in SingaporePumpkin Brownie RecipePumpkin Spice Loaf recipe (it actually turned out really well!)

http://traffic.libsyn.com/iblindtech/AP-005-TalkingMedia.mp3 In the utterly professional manner you've come to expect from the Audio Pizza team, we discuss the options available when it comes to accessible media. While Kayaker hosts and tries to remember his own name, Shaun discusses everything video. With Netflix being the only mainstream video on demand service that offers anything close to a reasonable amount of audio described content, we see just what other options are out there including the audio only Blindy TV and the new 100% audio described streaming service Tell Me TV. Also just why is there so little choice when it comes to accessible televisions and set top boxes, and could the perfect solution to on tap audio description already exist in the form of a smartphone app? Next, we move on to books. With the excellent Audible service offering convenient access to the latest audio books but at a price we look at what services are available in the US, UK & Australia that offer audio books for free. Such as RNIB Overdrive, Vision Australia and Baird or even your local library. To wrap up, we find out what books and shows we're enjoying at the moment and just why Kayaker loves Game of Thrones so much. For more information on the Tell Me TV service and to get a discount code check out our interview with Kevin Shaw, President and CEO of Tell Me TV in the next episode of Audio Pizza. Professor Matthew McGilvray, University of Oxford and Professor Richard Morgan, University of Queensland give a talk at the Department of Engineering Science as part of the 41st Maurice Lubbock Memorial Lecture programme.
Professor Bronwen Morgan (University of New South Wales) seeks to bring into dialogue two previously unrelated areas of scholarship: legal consciousness and diverse economies, as a way of illuminating the analysis of community-level action for sustainability, including its troubled relationship to the emerging 'sharing economy'. She draws indirectly on a comparative UK-Australia study of 'grassroots innovations' ("networks of activists and organisations generating novel bottom-up solutions for sustainable development") in food, energy and transport. These initiatives stress, to varying degrees, civil society, activism, localism and community even while tensions emerge with particular forms of the sharing economy that enact and rely on much more extractive modes of 'business-as-usual'. Presented Friday 01 May 2015.

I found some interesting devices used by traffic control systems on important cities such as Washington DC, Seattle, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc. and I could hack them :) I also found that these devices are also used in cities from UK, France, Australia, China, etc. making them even more interesting. This presentation will tell the whole story from how the devices were acquired, the research, on site testing demos (at Seattle, New York and Washington DC), vulnerabilities found and how they can be exploited, and finally some possible NSA style attacks (or should I say cyberwar style attacks?) Oh, I almost forgot, after this presentation anyone will be able to hack these devices and mess traffic control systems since there is no patch available (sorry didn't want to say 0day ;)) I hope that after this I still be allowed to enter (or leave?) the US Cesar Cerrudo is CTO at IOActive Labs where he leads the team in producing ongoing cutting edge research in the areas of SCADA, mobile device, application security and more. Formerly the founder and CEO of Argeniss Consulting, acquired by IOActive, Cesar is a world renown security researcher and specialist in application security. Throughout his career, Cesar is credited with discovering and helping to eliminate dozens of vulnerabilities in leading applications including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle database server, IBM DB2, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft Commerce Server, Microsoft Windows, Yahoo! Messenger, etc. In addition, Cesar has authored several white papers on database, application security, attacks and exploitation techniques and he has been invited to present at a variety of companies and conferences including Microsoft, Black Hat, Bellua, CanSecWest, EuSecWest, WebSec, HITB, Microsoft BlueHat, EkoParty, FRHACK, H2HC, Defcon, Infiltrate, etc. Cesar collaborates with and is regularly quoted in print and online publications including eWeek, ComputerWorld, and other leading journals.
