Mukasey argues that “the 14th Amendment's Insurrection Clause” would not apply to former President Donald Trump. Meaning he could not be deemed ineligible to hold office again. Mukasey writes, “[a] good deal of attention has focused thus far on whether the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was an ‘insurrection or rebellion' and, if so, whether Mr. Trump ‘engaged' in it. Those questions, however, need not be answered until two preliminary questions of law are addressed: Is the presidency an ‘office . . . under the United States,' and was the presidential oath Mr. Trump swore on Jan. 20, 2016, to support the Constitution taken ‘as an officer of the United States'?” He continues: “The latter question is easier. The use of the term ‘officer of the United States' in other constitutional provisions shows that it refers only to appointed officials, not to elected ones. In U.S. v. Mouat (1888), the Supreme Court ruled that ‘unless a person in the service of the government . . . holds his place by virtue of an appointment . . ., he is not, strictly speaking, an officer of the United States.'” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/was-trump-an-officer-of-the-united-states-constitution-14th-amendment-50b7d26?mod=opinion_lead_pos5 4:15pm- While appearing on CNN with Erin Burnett, Harvard University Law Professor Laurence Tribe explained that Donald Trump should be deemed ineligible for public office under the 14th Amendment. Episode 64 is an "early release" over the weekend to give folks coming back from the Western Hunt Expo some more entertaining "meat, gristle, and bone" to chew on for their trips back home! In this episode, Aron Snyder of Kifaru, Kifarucast, and Born Primitive Outdoor jumps over onto THIS side of the podcast universe and joins Chris in the continuation of the discussions from the most recent 5+/- hour marathon Chris just did over on the Kifarucast podcast last week. For this discussion, Chris and Aron dive into thoughts revolving around proposed changes to Colorado's next season structure, wherein hunters – both Resident AND Non-Resident – may end up seeing big changes. Some of the topics covered include: – The crazy differences in value-sets that apparently Colorado hunters have for their reason for hunting. – Should Over-the-Counter (OTC)licenses be modified for Non-Residents? ...ALL public land hunters – Resident and Non-Resident alike??? – Will Resident hunters be willing to accept a massive fee increase to cover the loss in revenue typically brought in by high numbers of Non-Resident hunters? – Will Colorado simply "trade evils" to address an "issue" that may be closer linked to habitat issues and elk numbers, as opposed to actual "hunter dissatisfaction/crowding" issues? – And more!

Oregon Football has won 3 consecutive games against Washington State after the Cougars had racked up 4 straight wins over Oregon from 2015-18. This year the two Pac-12 North contenders face off in their conference opener on September 24th in Washington State's home stadium. Oregon will surely be favored against WSU again this year, but this being a road game still makes it ripe for being a "trap game" on Oregon's 2022 football schedule. On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin takes a look at Oregon's conference opener in 2022 in Pullman. A game that ended 38-24 in 2021 was a 24-17 Oregon lead with just under 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter before the Ducks ran for a couple of late touchdowns to win by 14. The fact that last year's game was closer than the final score indicated could be a good sign for the Ducks as they battle the Cougars on the road this year. The units that will have to step up the most in this year's matchup with Washington State are the offensive line, specifically in pass protection, and the secondary. The Cougars' new QB Cam Ward could very well be an upgrade over Jayden de Laura, the 2021 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, meaning the Ducks' secondary will have to be able to cover at a high level to keep WSU's offense in check. Will Colorado transfer CB and preseason 2nd-team All-Pac 12 nominee Christian Gonzales shadow one of the Cougars' top wideouts? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! On today's Bulwark Podcast, the Washington Post's Dave Weigel joins host Charlie Sykes to share stories and insights from his beat on the 2020 campaign trail. A sex offender in public housing. How did this happen? Get a load of the new back to school items. Kitty Litter? Does a federal contractor's religious beliefs discriminate against workers? Why the special treatment? Will Colorado get Rank Choice Voting? One can hope. Do you see any political ads that discriminate? Tag and go to @america's voice. Find out who's paying for the ads. Looks like Uber and Lyft have had their wings cut when it comes to their drivers. No more "Contract employees." Hospitals suing their poorer patients. Is that going to help the situation? Have hospitals gone from being charitable organizations to "greedy" organizations? Trump, ever the Jokester, saying he helped on 9/11. Right! Word Du Jour: Nativism
A nearly complete tutorial on Rank Choice Voting is presented by Linda Templin of rcvforcolorado.org. The questions are spot on and the answers very informative. Has Rank Choice Voting come of age? Will Colorado be the second state after Maine to implement Rank Choice Voting statewide? Will it change the political complexion of Colorado? We think so. What are your thoughts? IVN Election Reform Editor Shawn Griffiths recently interviewed Steve Peterson, who is running as an independent for Colorado State Senate District 30. Peterson is in a unique position because if the current political makeup holds -- which it likely will thanks to a lack of competition in the state -- he could single-handedly deny both major parties a majority in the Senate and leverage that power to be the most influential policymaker in Colorado. Steve Peterson is backed by Unite Colorado, which is running a historic slate of independent candidates for the legislature. The goal: Break two-party control of the legislative process and restore trust and voter-centric representation in Colorado. Will Colorado voters be pioneers in the independent movement? Check out the full interview with Steve Peterson about his candidacy, the need for redistricting reform, the growth of independent advocacy, and more! Thanks for listening!
In this two-part episode, David Piper and Rusty Ryan preview the upcoming Pac-12 football season. Will Colorado finish last again? All that and more on part one of our Pac-12 Preview Spectacular.
