We've got something pretty important to say... Are you ready? Just because something is good for someone, doesn't mean it's right for you. We're big believers in functional fitness and we also know the massive benefit of training in a group setting with like-minded people, but we also know that each body is different and one workout doesn't work for everyone. Today Bradley sat down with Doctor of Physical Therapy and Active Life Coach, Maysa Hannawi. Maysa realized that she could impact lives not through a clinic, but through the gym and has been helping people all over look, feel, and perform the way they want. Tune into to learn more about Maysa and what you should be doing to optimize your performance inside and outside of the gym. While you're there, like, subscribe, and leave us a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review.

Dr. Sean Pastuch, founder of Active Life RX, gives Joe De Sena his 4 rules for pain assessment. He also talks about the importance of seeking out and overcoming some kinds of pain in our life. In the newly revamped segment of I May Be Wrong But I Doubt It - a podcast where I debate individuals on various topics within the fitness industry, And on this episode, I've got my friend and colleague Sean Pastuch, founder of Active Life Rx, to come on as we debate my stance that fitness professionals need to embrace the idea of being the BEST GENERALIST, that being the 'best coach you can be' is a probably a big waste of your time - depending on where you are on your business journey. Sean respectfully disagrees with several of my core tenants here and we're gonna get into a healthy debate and unpack this topic, so sit back, relax and watch how two ridiculously good looking and intelligent humans can disagree with one another, and still be friends.
There is a core truth, businesses need to change and adapt. It's a core part of the business process. In this episode, Dr. Sean talked about “change” towards a more beneficial business mindset and grow his business, on how he can execute on that change to create more opportunities. He also shared his entrepreneurial journey, his history in fitness industry and personal growth.
Dr. Sean Pastuch is an entrepreneur, coach, medical professional, and is leading a tribe. He has hit a lot of adversity through the process but has managed to work through it and create Active Life Professional. Dr. Pastuch now focuses all his time, effort, and energy on being an entrepreneur. A year ago, he had 18 members on his team, but he now has 41 people helping him reach for success. What are the rules of 3’s and 10’s? This is a business rule that every time your revenue starts with either a three or a 10, it is time to change your entire business - if you are making $100,000 a year, but you want to make $300,000 a year, you will need to change some things. Things will need to change, from who your clients are, how you find them, what you’re charging, and anything else that needs to be altered for you to reach the next three or ten. Can you describe your business’s qualities from two months ago and then explain what you are working towards two months from now? What does that transition look like? Dr. Pastuch says two months before this recording; they were willing to take on whatever punches that were going to be thrown their way and take any challenge head-on. The business is now moving more towards martial artistry, where everything happens on purpose and through patterns, which ensures there are reasonable next steps to take. They had to build a corporate structure because there was a lack of accountability and responsibility. After someone goes through your pro-coach program, how do they start those relationships with the medical profession? Are you helping them facilitate that? Dr. Pastuch helps people by giving them a vocabulary that is backed by substance and is working towards bridging the gap better in the future. Dr. Pastuch had a client that was in a coma and lost 80lbs, he came to Dr.Pastuch to help return him to his former body and increase his muscle mass. Dr.Pastuch then wanted to speak to every doctor that worked with his client, and together they worked together for a year. How do you think the fitness industry is going to change over the next year? Dr. Pastuch hopes that a year from now, hobbyists in the fitness space will be worked out because they are not professional trainers. Professional trainers realize the way they work needs to change. The people who have the most skills with marketing and sales will win, and it might not have anything to do with their ability to coach. There may be many professionals that will be left out because they refused to learn those skills. Coaching and client acquisition expert Sean Pastuch, owner of Active Life Rx, discusses how helping his clients 'play more offense' rather than being 100% defense can feel counterintuitive but is fortifying businesses now and for the future. Dr. Sean Pastuch shares a lot here, including his journey to creating Active Life Rx AND how to properly address and change your "prison state." He also explains why he believes gyms like Ardent are in the top 1% right now, but that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone will be the right fit. Prison State Questions: 1- What aspect of your prison state, if changed, would make it easier to change everything else? 2 - What is one reason why it is so difficult for you to change this? 3- What consistently leads you to ending up in this situation? 4 - How can you make the answer to Q.3 untrue? 5 - Why haven't you already made that happen? 6 - What would you need to do to make the answer to Q.5 untrue? 7 - How can you make that happen by tomorrow?
Dr. Sean of Active Life RX discuss Group Training Vs. 1:1 training and express our viewpoints on how we view them in the setting of the gym, our mindsets, and beliefs as well as many other good discussion, disagreements and a common goal. The IG Post that brought about this Podcast... When “coaches” or “fitness intellects” say things like - “don't teach olympic lifts to group classes” or “you ‘shouldn't' do these complex movements at higher volume or speed” or “move only for quality, nothing else” and other statements along these lines - I just smile and laugh inside - as I know the trap they have fell into and I move on from their short sighted assessment of how to get fit and healthy and get back to work. — But for those that want some reasoning… 1. An effective coach is able to teach, see and correct and thus scale properly their class to allow everyone to perform complex lifts and other types of movements - thus affording everyone the right to learn new skills and get better! 2. Coaches would be served best to follow this mantra “Limit your scope - Master the fundamental - Know what you don't know. If you live by these principles, you will keep your people safe, get them better and not overshoot your skillset. 3. Be weary of the overeducated fitness practitioner who is always tell you what to “limit” and what not to do. I would get a few opinions before you take their word... — Just my thoughts - did a podcast on this last week - link in bio if you want to dig deeper on this topic. — Get fired up and look at my stupid crooked pinky - it doesn't straighten
Sean's a buddy of mine, a smart dude and a respected colleague. He's also grown an amazingly successful online business - free from all the bullshit overhead of having a brick + mortar. So then why the fuck did he decide to lease a building for his online business? We get into this and tons of other microgym biz nuggets on this episode. Enjoy! @activeliferx
In episode 13, John and Chase dig in on Active Life Rx, what the coaches are learning, and how it aligns with the Ardent vision to Live With Purpose.
3 TRUTHS YOU NEED TO EMBRACE ABOUT PAIN The topic of pain is so important to discuss as professionals in the health and fitness industry, and really, as a human being. If you're human, you've experienced pain. And it's so multifaceted because pain is, in a physical and emotional sense, perception. It's subjective. Which for me is beautiful because it really takes away the comparison of one person's pain to another. My objective today is to challenge some of your beliefs around pain, from both a fitness and emotional viewpoint. And to hopefully give you some efficacy within your pain. You'll be able to look back and reflect on past experiences with pain, as well as be better equipped the next time it enters your life. Again, from a fitness or emotional perspective. My personal experience: I have to state that I'm not a doctor or psychiatrist or mental healthcare professional. I'm just a girl who has experienced her fair share of pain through injuries and life experience. And I happen to be a certified strength and conditioning specialist who has one puny year of internship in a physical therapy clinic, and a whole lot more time as a patient in physical therapy (cue torn LCL, meniscus, 4 broken arms, years of ankle sprains, and a double roll over car accident, after which I went on to compete with my team at a competitive cheerleading completion, ending in a neck brace, followed by 9 months of chiropractic, PT and massage three days per week...and disc injuries ever since). That lovely list is NOT to brag, but to simply to say I am not whipping this pain stuff out of thin air. I am speaking from experience both as a repeatedly injured human and as a current strength professional who does not want you to be in pain and/or be a victim to your pain. Okay, now that we cleared up that this is not medical or mental health advice, let's dive into the three things I think are monumentally powerful when talking about pain and how we experience it. And these are all HUGE for coaches or professionals who work with humans that may experience pain in the gym, so listen up. I also want to give credit where credit is due. I have had these beliefs for the better part of 10 years, but they were re-instilled in me at Prehab 101 with Dr. Jacob Harden. And some of the verbiage I may use could be from him. So, strength coaches, PTs, chiros, go follow Jacob. @dr.jacob.harden on IG. If you're looking for another organization of professionals in line with these philosophies, check out Active Life Rx. They're doing VERY big things and I actually just completed their Immersion Course for Coaches where we touched a lot on client communication and programming around pain. So, holy cow, #1. I swear there will be tactical take aways here. You are not your injury or diagnosis Might sound simple but it can be freaking profound because it is WAY TOO COMMON for people to identify with their injury or diagnosis. Hear me out: I believe this for physical pain as well as emotional pain: you experience depression, you are not depressed. You have a disc injury currently and you go around saying “I have a bad back” like it can't be fixed. You are more than one aspect of your life. I don't struggle with anxiety or depression but there are many other types of emotional pain someone can experience. If you're human, you probably have some baggage and have experienced pain in some facet of life. And I believe it's part of the human existence. It is imperative that you view pain as an experience. Not as a permanent condition. Now, if we get into the weeds here and talk terminal illness or injury, it could get dicey. And I respect that. But that is not what I am referring to here. My point is, that when you make it a permanent thing, you've removed the possibility of change. You've already limited yourself. And ultimately I don't think that's what you want. So, plain and simple; that's #1.

Dr. Sean and his company Active Life RX, have helped thousands of people get out of pain without going to the doctor or missing the gym. He was also a CrossFit affiliate owner for over 7 years, and sold his gym a couple years ago to focus on scaling his online business, and help more people. The premise of this episode, was to hear what Sean would do differently if he was to reopen a brick and mortar fitness facility in today's market. We talk about his biggest mistakes (his answer: taking on investors), whether or not he would use the CrossFit name, and who he would hire first. We also discuss many topics related to his online business like how he tackles new projects, how to be better at social media, and how he is constantly working on, and reinvesting in himself.
In this episode, Dr Sean Pastuch lets loose and shares his knowledge of what it takes to be success and pain-free in baseball, business and life. Dr. Sean Pastuch is the CEO of Active Life RX and has written a book called You Can Do Anything which will be out very soon.

Sean absolutely brings it in this episode and provides a ton of advice around fitness, business, and personal growth. Can't wait for you all to listen in!About Dr. Sean PastuchDr. Sean Pastuch, DC, grew up around the fitness, health, and wellness industry. And when he graduated Chiro school, he ended up opening a clinic and a CrossFit gym. He didn’t want to be that Chiro who tells you, “You need to this exercise and be on “X” program.” Then, pat you on the back and say see you next week.He works with people and athletes, who don’t want to deal with pain and injury anymore. And at the same time, don’t want to stop their training or don’t want to keep modifying their workouts every time there’s a workout that has overhead movements. With hands-on experience running a gym that does functional movements and treating people with injuries or previous injuries, which surface from having to move functionally, Sean started getting busier. And because of his unique approach he also started getting requests from clients that used to see him but moved to another city asking for workout programs.Find Dr. Sean OnlineActive Life RX website: https://activeliferx.com/ Active Life RX Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ActiveLifeRx/Active Life Podcast: http://activelife.libsyn.com/ Dr. Sean's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drseanpastuch/For more episodes of the Just Get Started Podcast or learn more about the host, Brian Ondrako, check out https://www.brianondrako.com or find Brian on Instagram at @brianondrakoLastly, intro music compliments of https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music – Thank you! His story is one of perseverance, gratitude, and adapting to whatever life throws at you. Sean and Jeremy own a company called Active Life RX that focuses on just that - Lasting Results. I don't know if I would say my mind was blown by the information I've learned from Sean and Jeremy because these are things I've suspected for years but not been able to articulate or wrap my head around completely. The discussion revolves around a central problem: We spend way too much damn time on mobility work and injury prevention... period. If this made our issues go away that would be one thing, but they don't. We spend 30-60 minutes every day just getting ready to train. That is not ok. Why aren't we having lasting results? In the interview, they discuss a whole new way of looking at mobility work or at least the traditional sense of it. We also talk about how this translates into improved performance.
Professionalize the coach. Today's world is breathing with fitness opportunities, coaches, gym owners, and health activists alike. Some are thriving, some are just staying afloat, and some close their doors for good. Here today we dive in with Sean, owner of Active Life RX, to discuss the future of fitness. If you own a gym or are a coach and want to see more income, a more flexible life, and more satisfaction this is the episode for you. If you are a gym member and want to know what to expect from a good gym, this is also for you. Enjoy!
