DISCO 1 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Jessica (BROTHERS & SISTERS - 6)  DISCO 2 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Ramblin’ Man (MASTER SERIES - 1) DISCO 3 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed (IDLEWILD SOUTH - 4) DISCO 4 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Blue Sky (EAT A PEACH - 8) DISCO 5 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Just Another Love Song (WIN, LOSE OR DRAW - 2) DISCO 6 RICHARD BETTS Long Time Gone (1)  DISCO 7 DICKEY BETTS & GREAT SOUTHERN Bougainvillea (Cara 2 Corte último)  DISCO 8 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Seven Turns (CD 1 - 7) DISCO 9 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Loaded Dice (SEVEN TURNS - Cara 1 - Corte 2) DISCO 10 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Two Rights (BROTHERS OF THE ROAD - Cara 2 Corte 2) DISCO 11 DICKEY BETTS & GREAT SOUTHERN Good Time Feeling (ESCA) DISCO 12 THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND High Falls (THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - 6)Escuchar audio

In 2015, representatives from all countries attending COP21 agreed to limit global average temperature rise to well below 2.0 degrees Celsius above pre-Industrial levels and to aim for a 1.5 degree rise. Flash forward less than a decade, and the United Kingdom Meteorological Office is forecasting the average annual temperature for 2024 to likely be more than 1.5 degrees warmer than pre-Industrial levels. As the world continues to break annual, monthly, and daily temperature records, what does it mean that we're now exceeding the 1.5 degree threshold so soon after the Paris Agreement? To help us understand the importance of this forecast, Dr. Nick Dunstone, leader of the Climate Dynamics Group at the Met Office and one of the scientists that conducted the forecast, joins the show to discuss what it means that 2024 may exceed the 1.5 degree threshold, the factors causing the record-breaking temperature, and what people and policymakers should take away from this historic milestone. Dr. Richard Betts, Head of the Climate Impacts Strategic Area at the Met Office, is also on today's episode to discuss his team's recent forecast of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. As CO2 emissions continue to rise, it's no surprise that temperatures continue to rise as well. Dr. Betts helps explain the factors that contribute to 2024's record increase in CO2 concentration and provide context to this year's forecast. Extreme weather is forcing communities to leave their homes and it's becoming a bigger and bigger issue. What can we do about it? In this edition of BBC Inside Science, Gaia Vince and her guests discuss what climate displacement means for people all over the world. We hear from Diwigdi Valiente, a member of the Guna Yala people of the San Blas Islands in Panama, where whole communities have already begun to evacuate. Closer to home the experts consider the impact of rising sea levels on British coastal communities. Guests are: Richard Betts, head of climate impacts at the UK Met Office and a professor at the University of Exeter; Lucy Easthope, professor in practice of risk and hazard at the University of Durham and a leading adviser on emergency planning and disaster recovery; Professor Guillermo Rein, an expert in fire science at Imperial College London; and Michael Szoenyi, head of flood resilience at Zurich Insurance. He explains why climate change has become such an important factor for business and individuals planning for the future – and why it's essential we don't leave big decisions about where we should live to the last minute. On Tuesday, the United Nations reported that the breach of the Nova Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River in Ukraine will impact heavily on global food security, causing a rise in food prices and leaving many without access to clean drinking water. Nine days after the disaster Gaia looks to the future alongside Kira Rudyk, Ukrainian MP who is also leader of the opposition party Golos and Laura Wellesley, senior research fellow in the Environment and Society Programme at Chatham House. Earlier this week the three-year inquiry into COVID began, seeking ‘to examine the UK's response to and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and learn lessons for the future.' Eyes are on the inquiry from many angles. Inside Science looks at what scientists hope to contribute and learn from it, with author and broadcaster Philip Ball. Also, a spike in North Atlantic sea temperatures has sparked concern among scientists. Richard Betts, head of climate impacts at the Met Office, talks through the factors that have coincided to form the anomaly. On the Park Street Insider Podcast, we often explore the underlying ethos that guide a brand concept to concrete success. For Richard Betts, the founder and  CEO of Casa Komos Brands Group, the brands he's developed throughout his career—including Betts & School, Astral Tequila, Sombra Mezcal, and Tequila Komos among others—have always lived at the intersection of enthusiasm and opportunity. On this episode, the Park Street Insider Podcast's Emily Pennington is joined by Betts to dive into his entrepreneurial journey. Betts got his start in restaurants, eventually becoming a wine director in Aspen and then certified as a Master Sommelier in 2003.  He then went on to found both Betts and Scholl Wine and Scarpetta Wine before getting into the world of spirits where he helped develop Sombra Mezcal. Betts now runs Casa Komos Brands Group handling  Tequila Komos and Superbird, plus a couple of impending brands he shares in this interview. Having worked closely in both wine and spirits, Betts breaks down the primary differences and overlaps between operating brands in these two spheres.  You'll also hear about Bett's values as a leader, outlining how to build healthy and effective company cultures. Episode Breakdown: 0:12 - Introduction to agave spirits in the U.S. market 6:05 - Richard Betts Background 11:00 - Founding  his first  wine brand 15:50 - Sombra Mezcal 19:50 - Partnership with Davos Brands21:20 - Difference between wine and spirits industries 25:00 - Founding Casa Komos Brands Group 30:11 - Route to market for CKBG brands 32:07 - Tequila Komos partnership with E&J Gallo  33:35 - Betts' values as a leader: 37:12 - Health and wellness for entrepreneurs: 39:30 -Tips for aspiring entrepreneurs:  Key Quote:"We make things that we love and that we think have a chance of being loved by others. Hot on the tail of China's heatwave comes the other side of the extreme coin – tragic flooding. Also, a coming global shortage of sulfur, while scientists produce useful oxygen on Mars in the MOXIE experiment. Prof Chunzai Wang is the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Tropical Oceanography in Guangzhou, China. He tells Roland about the surprising nature of the extreme temperatures and droughts much of China has been experiencing, and how they are connected to so many of the record-breaking weather events around the northern hemisphere this summer, including the tragic flooding in Pakistan. Some people of course saw this coming. Richard Betts of the UK Met Office talks of a paper by one of his predecessors published 50 years ago exactly that pretty much predicted the greenhouse gas-induced climate change more or less exactly. Clearly, the world needs to cut carbon emissions, and oil and coal would be sensible places to start. But as Prof Mark Maslin points out, this will come with its own consequences in terms of pressure on the industrial supply of sulfur and sulfuric acid, essential to so many other devices and processes. Can a shortage be averted? And scientists working on Nasa's Mars Perseverance team report more results this week. Alongside all the sensitive instrumentation aboard, an experiment known as MOXIE was somehow squeezed in to demonstrate the principle of electrolyzing Martian carbon dioxide to produce usable oxygen gas. As Michael Hecht explains, the tech is scalable and would be more or less essential to any viable human trip to Mars in the future. Carla Rza Betts is a sommelier, wine-maker, co-founder, philanthropist, and an overall incredible human being. Her hospitality career ranges from starting out as a silverware polisher to excelling as Wine Director for many of NYC's top restaurants. Eventually, she elected to pursue "An Approach To Relaxation", a Southern Australian project making wine with her husband, Richard Betts. She has been featured in "The New York Times", an episode of 60 Minutes, "Wine Enthusiast", "Winery to Watch", and many more! As she is currently living in Amsterdam with her husband, we had to do this one virtually. No worries though! We still find out how she came up, her experiences during that time, and dig into the evolution of her vision in business. In every episode of HP&G, we also centralize New York as a topic and what it brings to the industry. We're taking it on home with how she has contributed to the industry and what's next. We also talk about how he maintains a balanced diet and his sanity during his travels and downtime, and how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed his outlook on his once very rigorous travel schedule. After studying geology and gaining a BS, an MS and nearly a JD, Richard Betts discovered a love of wine. He served as the wine director at The Little Nell in Aspen from 2000 to 2008, and while there, in all his spare time, in 2003, Richard was the 9th person to ever pass the Court of Master Sommeliers’ Masters Exam on the first attempt. Richard co-founded the wine labels Betts & Scholl in 2003 and Scarpetta in 2006 and founded Sombra Mezcal in 2006. Today, Richard runs Komos Tequila and Superbird Paloma (in a beautiful can), My Essential Wines, and the wine from Barossa in South Australia,  “An Approach To Relaxation.”   Richard is the New York Times best-selling author of “The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Wine Expert” and “The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Whiskey Know-It-All.”  And after nearly two decades as a Master Sommelier, and feeling disillusioned by the lack of evolution in the organization, Richard has altered the wine world forever, by being the first person to resign as a Master Sommelier. He is here to tell us about his journey and his decision. Here are the show notes: Richard covers his background and his path towards becoming a Master Sommelier. He takes on a journey of what it was like for him in the early 2000s and how the Court of Master Sommeliers of that time fostered his love of learning and wine We talk about Richard’s growing concerns about the Court of Master Sommeliers over time and then we delve into the two major issues that made him quit the organization: The Cheating Scandal of 2018, in which a Master Sommelier gave away answers to the blind tasting portion of the exam to several people in California, and then the Board revoked all certifications of the credential around the world with no explanation or apology. The apathy of the Board of Directors of the Court of Master Sommeliers to the Black Lives Matter Movement, and their veto of a statement of inclusivity to remain “neutral.” Richard tells us how he quit the organization and the painful and extensive steps he took to try to fix things before he made this drastic step. To editorialize: Richard is a hero in the wine world. He has left an indelible mark that screams “I value integrity over status and exclusivity.” His moral compass, intelligence, and down-to-earth style and, ultimately, its lack of fit with the Court should have us all questioning why we give so much deference to those with the credential, when it is a reductive look at one’s ability to take an exam well, not to be the best wine professional s/he can be.   Bravo to Richard. He is a hero and a model for us all. Here is a link to his resignation letter.   _______________________________________________________ Thanks to our sponsors this week:   Wine Access  Visit: www.wineaccess.com/normal and for a limited time get $20 off your first order of $50 or more!  Wine Access is a web site that has exclusive wines that overdeliver for the price (of which they have a range). Check out their awesome wine site with fantastic, hard to find wines -- you won't regret it!    Thanks to YOU! The podcast supporters on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/winefornormalpeople And get your copy Wine For Normal People Book today!

Episode Notes Episode 25 – Controversy and Turmoil in America’s Wine Industry Pete and VinoMike welcome back special guest, Dan Pilkey. Dan joined them on episode 11 to talk about the 2018 Court of Master Sommeliers exam scandal. Now, Dan is back with the guys to talk more about the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas (CMSA) and their slow response on matters of social justice, including Black Lives Matter, as well as the overall lack of transparency in the non-profit organization. Pete starts things off by giving his perspective on the state of the wine world, and our society in general. He states and is backed by Mike and Dan, that #BlackLivesMatter. This is not a political issue. It is a human rights issue. Pete invites anyone who would like to discuss it to reach out on social media. Before the guys launch into the topic, they crack open a bottle of 2016 Paul Hobbs Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Sourced from mostly estate vineyards across the Russian River Valley, this is a spectacular expression of Pinot Noir with bright fruit, a punch of earth, and a long, complex finish. Get you some! VinoMike takes over leading the discussion starting with the resignation letter of now-former Master Sommelier, Richard Betts. Mike also brings up the resignation letters of two more Master Sommeliers – Brian McClintic (famous for being a star in the movie Somm) and Nate Ready. Overall, Dan, VinoMike, and Pete get deep into a myriad of long-overdue topics with CMSA and the larger wine world. From #BlackLivesMatter, to the status of CMSA as a non-profit, to the treatment of women, the LGBTQIA+ community and other BIPOC persons, and the lack of transparency in the CMSA organization, they discuss it all. Lots to unpack here, and a much-needed roundtable discussion. If you want to check out the certification path Dan Pilkey has taken, you can find information on the Masters of Wine program here. As a reminder, Pete and Mike do not accept advertising dollars from wineries or wine wholesalers. They purchase the bottles they taste on the show. These are not paid endorsements. They could use the money, so this integrity thing sucks. Thank you for listening to That Wine Pod! Be sure to subscribe in your favorite podcast app. And remember… Life’s short. It's silly to expect that intelligence will always get it right. WAR ROOM welcomes Dr. Richard Betts from Columbia University to discuss what success and failure really mean in the intelligence community. For example, when adversaries successfully strike U.S. targets, the results are tragic and are often followed by soul searching and, unfortunately, blame. Success stories, such as the thwarting of probable attacks, are far more numerous but attract less attention. What does this mean for intelligence professionals? U.S. Army War College resident student Adam Dietrich moderates, and the Intelligence series editor Genevieve Lester provides the introduction.     Richard Betts is is the Arnold Saltzman Professor of War and Peace Studies in the Department of Political Science, the director of the Institute of War and Peace Studies, and the director of the International Security Policy Program in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. We talk about how we can be meaningful stakeholders in foreign policy by voting and supporting political movements. Vote & Support We must use our power to vote and support political movements in order to activate fundamental change in our world. Be an active volunteer in an organization Historically, the United States has been a country of joiners in various organizations to promote solutions to public policy programs. People joined organizations and devoted their volunteered time in large numbers because it is one of the basic ways in which people indirectly affect bigger issues that they don't feel much direct control over. Don't take it for granted! Demand and create a more peaceful future It's very damaging to the political process when people participate irresponsibly. Make the effort to learn enough to make responsible decisions. Read newspapers, inform yourself, and stay curious about what is going on.  Then vote for the candidate that comes closest to your point of view. Broken down by GRAIN (corn, wheat, rye, barley, rice, millet, quinoa …), WOOD (new vs. used barrels), and PLACE (Scotland uses sherry from Spain and bourbon from USA, whereas Japan uses oak called mizunara), it's only a matter of time until you too have mastered whiskey. Betts, now a producer of My Essential Wine varietals, and Sombra mezcal, will have you turning your drinking data into a dogma soon enough.

Richard Betts (@yobetts) served as the wine director at The Little Nell in Aspen from 2000 to 2008. Much more interesting to me, Richard passed the Court of Master Sommeliers' Masters Exam on his first attempt, becoming the ninth person in history ever to do so. I first met Richard through investing wunderkind Chris Sacca, and we immediately hit it off. Richard can help you train your senses for anything, including wine, whiskey, his current love of mezcal, and far beyond. He's also done a lot of wild experiments, got a lot of tattoos, almost been shot in Mexico, and developed an incredible ability to simplify the complex. We get along. In this conversation, we talk about nearly everything, ranging from the value of quitting to tricks of the trade, travel tips (he's traveling 300+ days per year), and "starter" wines. We also drink a boat-load of whiskey, me tasting and Richard teaching. The pictures below show a sample. Side note and cool rule of thumb: did you know it's spelled "whiskey" when from countries that have "e" in their names (e.g. America) but "whisky" when from countries that don't have an "e" in their names (e.g. Scotland, Japan)? Richard taught me that. Last but not least, Richard is the author of a brand-new book, “The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Whiskey Know-It-All,” which is sitting on my kitchen table with whiskey stains all over it. It distils (see what I did there?) a couple of lifetimes worth of study down to 24 pages...then makes them smell good. Definitely check it out. At the very least, it gives you a bunch of rules of thumb (like the whiskey vs. whisky trick), so you can impress your friends and not look like a dumb-ass at the bar. Sweet! Less dumb-ass and more smart-ass is always good. Get 'er done. Show notes and links for this episode can be found at www.fourhourworkweek.com/podcast. This podcast is brought to you by MeUndies. If I’m not going commando, then I’m wearing MeUndies. I’ve been testing out pairs for about 3 or 4 months now, and, as a result, I've thrown out my other underwear. They look good, feel good, have options for men and women, and their materials are 2x softer than cotton, as evaluated using the Kawabata method. Not only does MeUndies offer underwear, but they also have incredible lounge pants. I wear them when I record the podcast, and when I’m out and about grabbing coffee. If by some chance you’re not happy with the first pair you try on, they’ll refund your purchase completely. Check out MeUndies.com/Tim to see my current faves (some are awesomely ridiculous) and, while you’re at it, don’t miss lots of hot ladies wearing MeUndies. It's time to fight back against nature. For two months great swathes of Britain have been paralysed by torrential rain, storms and flooding. Tom Heap has had enough. In a special edition of 'Costing the Earth' he'll be eschewing the moaning and buck-passing in favour of a search for a long-term solution to Britain's vulnerability. With the help of an expert panel including Richard Betts from the Met Office, Phil Dyke from the National Trust, farmer Guy Smith and civil engineer Ola Holmstrom Tom will discuss the challenges in an era of climate change and the best solutions that science can offer. This week’s on In the Drink, host Joe Campanele is joined by winemaker, master sommelier and beverage expert Richard Betts, who’s latest ventures include Sombra Mezcal, “The Essential Scratch n Sniff Guide to Wine Expertise” & two new wines – St. Glinglin & The Essential. Hear about why terroir is so important in mezcal production and how mass-produced tequila masked the original brilliance and delicate flavor profile of mezcal. Hear Richard’s thoughts on the current state of Bordeaux and why he thinks it should be affordable and drank by all. Richard reminds listeners that everybody should feel good about having a glass of wine with lunch, and enjoying life to the fullest! This program was sponsored by White Oak Pastures. “I had no expectation that anybody was ready for this [Sombra Mezcal] but me – that’s how I approach all my projects.” “It’s not about the superstar chef or sommelier – it’s about the superstar guest. Our job is more about helping people understand what they love, than of telling them what they should love.” “The table is never truly set until there’s wine on it.” “I’m old enough to remember when Bordeaux was affordable and we all drank it.” –Richard Betts on In the Drink
