Playfly has four key business divisions - media, properties, technology and global partnerships. As the CEO of Playfly, Schreiber completed more than 10 acquisitions, and the employee count grew to more than 1,000 people. Playfly works with more than 2,000 brand partners, which include professional teams and college athletics departments such as Auburn, LSU, Maryland, Michigan State, Penn State, USC, Villanova, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.Schreiber served as the Chief Content Officer at Fortune 500 company Altice USA and President of Altice USA News. He was a founding member of Altice USA, part of their first management team, their 2017 IPO, and a key stakeholder in their acquisition of Cheddar. As president, Schreiber had direct oversight of its 13 networks and 600+ people. Prior to joining Altice USA, he spent 14 years at NBCUniversal and Comcast in several commercial, operating and revenue roles, including SVP of Content at Comcast, and VP of Business Development & Strategy at NBCUniversal Digital Distribution. During his time at Comcast NBCUniversal, Schreiber helped partner in the development, formation and launch of Hulu in 2007. He was also involved in some of the media industry's first digital distribution deals with the likes of Netflix, Amazon, and Apple. He also has board experience, competency in revenue and value generation, and turn-around and restructuring skills via his time as an Altice executive. AT&T's new "Gigapower" fiber joint venture with BlackRock Alternatives initially will focus on 1 million to 1.5 million locations outside AT&T's wireline footprint. Meanwhile, Charter Communications and Comcast are embarking on major hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) upgrades. And fixed wireless access (FWA) remains a tool of interest in the broadband investment community.Those were some of the topics covered on this Light Reading Podcast with Jack Burton and Jay Rolls, two cable and broadband vets at Broadband Success Partners, a telecom consulting firm primarily focused on providing tech due diligence to investors exploring opportunities in broadband. It's an active segment, as the firm worked on 32 deals last year and recently held 35 meetings at the recent Metro Connect show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As for that AT&T-BlackRock deal, it was treated like a "completely new entity," said Burton, a principal at Broadband Success Partners who is late of Cablevision Systems and Altice USA. "We had to look at that as if it was a startup." On the cable side, operators are exploring multiple upgrade paths, including a move to DOCSIS 4.0 or a more incremental move featuring "high-split" upgrades paired with a spectrum expansion to 1.2GHz that Rolls, a former Charter CTO, likes to refer to as "DOCSIS 3.5." "I think there's a lot of life left in [DOCSIS 3.1]," he said. Comcast and Charter Communications just came off a third quarter in which they added a record 729,000 mobile lines, extending their grand total to 9.61 million. As home broadband subscriber growth slows, mobile has clearly become their new success story.Altice USA's mobile service, coming way of a new MVNO deal with T-Mobile, has had more limited success, but the operator is still adding mobile lines. Meanwhile, Cox Communications and WideOpenWest have just entered the game, and the National Content & Technology Cooperative (NCTC) is crafting MVNO deals that will enable its membership of 700-plus independent cable operators and telcos to enter the mobile mix as well.Roger Entner, the founder and lead analyst of Recon Analytics and all-around mobile industry expert, believes cable is well-positioned to keep growing the mobile side of its business. La semaine dernières, le gouvernement américain a lancé un vaste plan d'aide pour permettre à tous ses administrés d'accéder à l'internet haut débit. Concrètement, le président Joe Biden souhaite que les familles et foyers aux revenus modestes puissent eux aussi avoir internet grâce à des subventions et un accord avec les fournisseurs d'accès pour réduire les prix, et même dans certains cas, sans débourser un centime.En Europe et en Amérique du Nord, internet s'est révélé être une véritable nécessitée à bien des niveaux ces dernières années, à cause de la pandémie, et surtout lors des différents confinements. D'après le média en ligne Axios, la fracture numérique aux États-Unis est principalement liée au coût d'un abonnement. Outre atlantique, accéder à l'internet haut débit avoisine souvent les 80 voir 100$ par mois, sans compter les forfaits mobiles qui peuvent parfois être aussi cher. D'ailleurs, pour la vice-présidente Kamala Harris, on pourrait presque parler de droit fondamental, je la cite « chaque personne dans notre pays, quel que soit son revenu, devrait pouvoir s'offrir l'Internet à haut débit », fin de citation... d'où l'envie de faire changer les choses pour le gouvernement Biden.Dans un premier temps, le Congrès a voté il a peu, un programme dit « de connectivité abordable » dans le cadre de la loi sur les infrastructures de novembre dernier. Ce programme consiste à donner une allocation pouvant aller jusqu'à 30 dollars aux ménages les plus modestes afin qu'ils puissent avoir accès à Internet auprès d'un des 1 300 fournisseurs d'accès participants. Combien de foyers pourront donc potentiellement en bénéficier ? Et bien plus 48 millions, soit environ 40% des familles américaines ! Concernant les offres à prix réduit, le gouvernement a déjà lancé des négociations avec une vingtaines de fournisseurs comme Verizon qui aurait même baissé le tarif d'un de ses abonnements à 10$. Comcast, AT&T ou encore Altice USA pour en citer d'autres sont également prêt à faire un geste. Et au final, le gouvernement Biden serait parvenu à obtenir un accord pour la mise en place d'une offre à 30 dollars par mois pour un débit de 100 Mb/s, ce qui est je cite « suffisamment rapide pour qu'une famille type de quatre personnes puisse travailler à domicile, faire ses devoirs, naviguer sur le web et diffuser des émissions et des films en haute définition » fin de citation. Avec une aide mensuelle de l'État d'environ 30$ et une offre internet au même prix, le gouvernement américain devient l'un des premiers dans le monde à permettre à ses concitoyens les plus modestes d'accéder gratuitement à l'internet haut débit. Cable television provider Altice USA has confirmed plans to pay $200 million for the millennial-focused, digitally-native news network Cheddar in all-cash, or all-cheddar, rather, deal. The price tag comes at a 25 percent premium to the media startup's $160 million Series D valuation. Jon Steinberg, the co-founder and chief executive officer of Cheddar and former president and chief operating officer of BuzzFeed, will become president of Altice News.
