This week Seth and Bill welcome back good friend John Bruning to wrap up the discussion on the great Ace Race in the Pacific during World War II. The trio gets into a discussion on one of the fieriest leaders of the Pacific theater, P-47 Thunderbolt ace, Neel Kearby, and his 348th Fighter Group. n The guys break down Kearby's "freelancing" fighter missions and the incredible risks he took all to get that brass ring title of Ace of Aces. After that, the team sets out to blow apart the myth of Charles Lindbergh and his so-called "contributions" to the air war. The guys really get into the dirt and settle, once and for all, the myths surrounding the Lone Eagle's supposed Pacific tour. Finally, the team gets into the final days of P-38 Ace and aerial legend, Tommy McGuire and how the great ace met his untimely end, thus ending the great ace race of the Pacific theater. #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #usnavy #usa #usarmy #medalofhonor #enterprise #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #cv6 #midway #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #worldwar2 #usnavy #usnavyseals #usmc #usmarines #saipan #usa #usarmy #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #battleship #battleships #ussenterprise #aircraftcarriers #museum #essex #halsey #taskforce38 #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #usnavy #usa #usarmy #medalofhonor #enterprise #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #cv6 #midway #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #worldwar2 #usnavy #usnavyseals #usmc #usmarines #saipan #usa #usarmy #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #battleship #battleships #ussenterprise #aircraftcarriers #museum #hollywood #movie #movies #books #mastersoftheair #8thairforce #mightyeighth #100thbombgroup #bloodyhundredth #b17 #boeing #airforce wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #usnavy #usa #usarmy #medalofhonor #enterprise #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #cv6 #midway #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #worldwar2 #usnavy #usnavyseals #usmc #usmarines #saipan #usa #usarmy #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #battleship #battleships #ussenterprise #aircraftcarriers #museum #hollywood #movie #movies #books #oldbreed #1stMarineDivision #thepacific #Peleliu #army #marines #marinecorps #worldwar2 #worldwar #worldwarii #leytegulf #battleofleytegulf #rodserling #twilightzone #liberation #blacksheep #power #prisoner #prisonerofwar #typhoon #hurricane #weather #iwojima#bullhalsey #ace #p47 #p38 #fighter #fighterpilot #charleslindbergh

SCARED TO DEATH IS EXPLICIT IN EVERY WAY. PLEASE TAKE CARE WHILE LISTENING.Dan has three stories this week! His first story takes us to the UK for the story of Anne Naylor, her said demise and subsequent haunting. Then a strange story of bizarre goop falling from the sky in Oakville, Washington. Lastly, a good old haunted house story with ouija boards and curses and ghosts! Lynze takes this week to show us a different side of hauntings by exploring the energy left behind from our loved ones. Nothing to scary but the stories are sweet and once again, lend credibility to the overall ideas explored here. Jim Whaley is a former US Army Aviation Officer and CEO of Mission Roll Call. This nonprofit provides veterans with a unified voice to the nation's leaders and communities. The American public supports the military but there is a chasm between what people know and what veterans have to live through everyday. There are 18.5 million veterans and over 1 million are homeless. Suicide and food insecurity remain rampant. The military today is falling short of recruitment targets and there is a gap between what the military needs to do and the available people actually to do it. SCARED TO DEATH IS EXPLICIT IN EVERY WAY. PLEASE TAKE CARE WHILE LISTENING.Dan has a mysterious disappearance and an urban legend that some think is a lot more than just a legend. His first tale focuses on the strange circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a young man in Colorado back in 2008. The second story will bring us to a cemetery in Iowa where an angelic statue has gained a reputation for not being very…. angelic. Is the Black Angel of Iowa City, Iowa's Oakland Cemetery cursed? Lynze has two great stories this week as well! She will kick it off with a bizarre and hard-to-explain story about a hot tub and a cell phone- we will leave it at that. The job of a combat helicopter pilot isn't just stressful - it's life-or-death. And the leaders of these highly trained forces don't take the stress lightly, but instead double down on their commitment and drive those around them to extraordinary performance. The toughest test for any leader is to stay focused under intense pressure, and yet remain humble. They're able to lead with great clarity and precision, inspiring teams in the heat of battle. It takes poise, courage, and strength of character to do what they do - each day flying into danger with a team by their side. Brian L. Slade has held command positions in the Army and the Air Force and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and fourteen combat air medals. He attended Utah State, where he earned a BA and was commissioned as an Army Aviation second lieutenant. He's also earned an MA in aviation instruction. Brian currently serves as a lieutenant colonel for Air Force Combat Search and Rescue. Topics During this interview Brian and I discuss the following topics: What drew him into forces especially the officer corps How he kept the mindset to stay at the top of performance How he got prepared to operate in combat zone How he took over an already established team and got it to peak performance Why leaders need to commit with courage How to combat the great resignation For the complete show notes be sure to check out our website: https://leaddontboss.com/248
In today's episode we talk about trauma from someone who has experienced it as a combat aviator and also in his personal life. What he has to share could help us all take a different approach to how trauma affects us. Does it burn us down or heat our house? There are many factors that define trauma for us, but perhaps the most powerful is how we think about it. He has a wonderful "lightning" analogy that I think you will find useful. About Brian: One in three will experience a significant trauma in their life. For Army Apache Pilot Brian Slade, his first was in Afghanistan. Offering a unique perspective on preparing one's mind for trauma, his book, Cleared Hot puts readers in the cockpit of the most lethal helicopter in the world as Slade learns on the job, flying over an unforgiving landscape. Follow Slade as he navigates the ugliness of combat while working to preserve a difficult marriage to a wife suffering from mental illness. Witness the challenges that taught him universal lessons on resilience and coping-and how they equipped him to think fast under pressure and maneuver through a curtain of enemy fire that crippled his aircraft and wounded his co-pilot, ultimately earning him the Distinguished Flying Cross. Cleared Hot offers readers an exhilarating ride while giving them tools they can use to survive the traumas of their own lives. Brian L. He raised and commanded the Army's first ALH squadron, and the first Aviation Brigade. He also built and flew a Pushpak light aircraft all around the country to commemorate various milestones in Army Aviation's history.
I've been fascinated with flight all my life. I was fortunate to be able to make a career in Army Aviation as a Chinook Flight Engineer. Now I'm able to take my passion and share it in a way to help others to make their dream of flight a reality. There are a lot of videos and training aids available online to help with flight training. There's not much that doesn't require visual aids or graphics to help learn or reinforce the required learning to take the FAA written exam. We Gotta Fly is designed not only for people that learn more from hearing material, but also for those that need to prepare for FAA exams while driving or working where watching a video may not be practical. If you're thinking about flight training or you're already on your way, come on along 'cause We Gotta Fly.Episode 002 Discovery Flight is launching September 13 - everywhere podcasts are found!Subscribe today!
