This was recorded on a cold and clear autumn day in the forest high above Cabin Creek near the Pacific Crest Trail in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Shasta County, California. A light breeze blew through the tops of the Douglas Fir trees towering above, shaking loose rain that was still clinging to the needles from the night before. The recording starts just after sunrise and continues until just before sunset. I am extremely thankful to those of you that have helped me by making monthly contributions and one time donations. This was recorded beneath a stand of Mountain Hemlock and Lodgepole Pine on a breezy autumn day at Porcupine Lake in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Siskiyou County, California. The air was cold and crisp as the sun shined through passing high clouds, while gusty wind blew through the trees surrounding the clear water of the high mountain lake. Unbothered by the wind, a small banditry of Mountain Chickadees made its way through the trees, calling cheerfully as they flitted among the branches foraging for food. This was recorded on a cold and blustery autumn day at the foot of Mount Shasta in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Siskiyou County, California. The wind blows steadily through the tops of the tall Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, and White Fir trees in the surrounding forest, with gusts swirling down now and then to rustle the dry leaves of the California Black Oak trees under which I set up the microphone. Oak leaves can be heard falling to the forest floor after they've been freed from their twigs by the wind. This location is a little over two miles outside of the small town of McCloud, in which I live. I am fortunate to live in a place where I can be immersed in nature after only a short walk out my back door. This was my fourth try at getting a long recording that didn't contain frequent air traffic. My previous attempts have had commercial jets and small planes passing loudly overhead every five or ten minutes. And though there is a little air traffic on this recording, it isn't nearly as loud or frequent as the previous attempts. I hope you don't mind it too much. A lot of time, effort, and work goes into gathering these recordings for you, and I can really use your help. If you're looking to walk off that Thanksgiving dinner or avoid shopping malls like the plague, there's another tradition for you: Green Friday. Celebrated by state parks in both Oregon and Washington on the day after Thanksgiving, and sometimes called Autumn Day or Native American Heritage Day, the fee-free holiday waives all parking fees at parks where they're normally charged. While park fees, which run from $5 to $10 per vehicle, are pretty nominal compared to the price of gas needed to get to those recreation areas, it's a nice gesture and a good excuse to get outside. On this week's episode of Peak Northwest, we have a few suggestions for those interested in celebrating this year. Here are some highlights from this week's show: The history of Green Friday in the Pacific Northwest. Which Oregon state parks normally charge fees? A few of the best state parks in Oregon to check out this season. Washington has plenty of amazing state parks, too. I recorded this on a warm and sunny autumn afternoon while walking the full length of the Cabin Creek Trail. The recording starts at the trail's end near Beartrap Creek, then follows Squaw Valley Creek upstream for five miles, and ends at the trailhead near Cabin Creek. This recording was made using the binaural recording technique in which a small microphone is placed in each ear, the same way you would with earbud headphones, with the microphone facing out in order to capture sound as closely as possible to how a person would hear it themselves. This technique creates a lifelike listening experience and and allows the listener hear what it would sound like to be on location at the time of recording. I strongly recommend listening to this recording with a pair of headphones. A lot of time, effort, and work goes into gathering these recordings for you, and I can really use your help. RADICAL MURMUR is a three-part sonic essay on the possibilities of sound. Close your eyes, open your ears. Part 2: RESONANCES OF LOSS. In this episode, we listen to the sighing and groaning of a tired planet. In composer Evelien van den Broek's music, we hear field recordings of animals that no longer exist. This is how she tries to make the current "biological destruction" palpable. Peter Cusack travelled to Chernobyl and other ecological disaster zones as a "sonic journalist". What do places we know from the news but that we have never 'heard', sound like? And philosopher Salomé Voegelin reflects on how the COVID-19 crisis threw us back on ourselves, threatening to evaporate the sonic "in-between" between people. "There is no inner genius, there is only an outer connection." RADICAL MURMUR is made in collaboration with rekto:verso, Gonzo (circus) en Collateral. RADICAAL GEROEZEMOES is een sonisch essay in drie delen over geluid. Sluit je ogen, open je oren. Deel 2: RESONANTIES VAN VERLIES. “There is no inner genius, there is only an outer connection.” I.s.m. rekto:verso, Gonzo (circus) en Collateral BRONNEN EN VERMELDINGEN 03:07> Fragment van “Pacific Fanfare” van Barry Truax van de dubbel-cd “The Vancouver Soundscape 1973; Soundscape Vancouver 1996”. 07:54 > Fragment van “I Rainforest” van het album “Endlings” van Evelien van den Broek met field recordings van Bernie Krause. It's a perfect Autumn Day to go for a walk through Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens with its director Tim Entwisle. Australia is a country of so many climates, but for those who have the distinction of seasons, Autumn is a glorious time of year in the garden — also known in the Kulin Nation seasons as the Wombat time of year. We ask philosophical questions about flowers; if you're a Tibetan, why do you choose now to bloom? And Jonathan discovers a new pocket of the garden: the compost yard.
The windy autumn day refreshes and restores you.
Crypt Creeper Tour – St. Andrews On-The-Red –Anglican Church Finally Part 2!!! It was a grey and dismal Autumn Day last October 2021 when 7 of us set out to explore the graveyard grounds surrounding the Oldest Stone Church, still in operation; The Haunted St. Andrew's Church. Built in 1844 it has survived plagues, wars, sorrow and devastation. Perched on River Rd, overseeing the flow of the Red River, there is so much historical significance above and below these grounds. It was an honour to tour the gravestones and pay respect to the lives that have passed, and read the headstones to reflect on the long and often lives cut short, often from the previous century. So many stories lie on these grounds. Once we reviewed the audio, we did find a few curious sounds (aside from the constant crunching of leaves under our feet) however; perhaps you listen in on our conversations and see if your ears can detect any ethereal voices???Here's a hint on what we found (although faint) and where in the recordings:-6:20 to 6:25 – Fast ‘Clicking' footsteps on pavement (yet by this point we were walking on the grounds together. -12:22 – sounds like a door slamming or a drum-12:26 – sound of a window sliding-22:13 to 22:17 - more weird knocking noises -30:02 – Laughter or birds?**Of interest** 33:20 - mark – Batteries dies on Recorder # 1, while we put in brand new batteries before we left the house. As well Jenn reported that she heard a knock on the church window from the inside. -34:13 – we all walked around the grounds in silence ‘Quiet Walk'-34:05 – 34:14 – First faint yelling, then singing sounds almost in a Scottish dialect. -34:30 – faint voice detected of a female, perhaps a girl saying “Will she Carry Me?”Thanks to all our Listeners who have stuck around and enjoyed our ghost shenanigans!Music by Ruesche-Soundshttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqXS...For more information on our podcast, or if you have a story to share or would like to just get in touch with us, shoot us an email at givinguptheghostpodcast@gmail.comPlease check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit and TikTok! This was recorded on a clear autumn day beside Tom Neal Creek in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Shasta County, California. The creek runs through a deep, wooded canyon in a remote, rugged, and wild area of the forest. I made a recording for the podcast at this location before(episode 8), but I wanted to come back as it is a favorite place of mine and is far away from the sources of noise pollution which have plagued my many attempts at collecting recordings for you over the past few weeks. On a Rainy Autumn Day…October 18, 2021 http://goodies.wizardacademypress.com/MMM20211018-OnARainyAutumnDay.mp3 (Listen) https://www.mondaymorningmemo.com/roy-wloren-in-mirror/ (A) His father called him Bunny because he was born on Easter Sunday. Bunny's younger brother got a scholarship to Harvard. I've had both of Bunny's phone numbers memorized for the past 48 years and I mention his name at least once a week. “Don't make me say Loren L. Lewis” has been a private joke between the Princess and me since we were 17 years old. I spent my Oklahoma weekends helping Loren load and unload the mountain of antique furniture he would buy at auction. Loren infected me with an addiction for auction browsing that has never left me. At the end of each auction, he and I would load 5 times more furniture than could possibly fit into – and on top of – his 1960 Ford Station Wagon. It became a point of honor that we never had to make a second trip. Loren was a legend. He and I could have hauled the entire contents of the average 3-bedroom home, including all major appliances, in just one load. Pennie witnessed Loren work his magic more than once, so when she and I go to Costco or Home Depot or a plant nursery or an auction and buy far more than we can possibly pack into her little SUV, she will always look at me and say, “Do you think we can get it all home?” I smile and say, “Don't make me say Loren L. Lewis.” I always get it home in just one load. Always. We may look like the Beverly Hillbillies as we roll down the road, but I graduated magna cum laude from the Loren L. Lewis School of Hauling, where our school motto is, “Of course we can get it in just one load. Don't make me say Loren L. Lewis.” When I was 15, Loren was 30. Anyone who saw us together would assume he was my older brother or my very young uncle. Loren taught me how to rebuild an automobile engine. Loren drove me to the emergency room when I nearly sliced off my forefinger while trying to shave down the edge of a plastic light switch cover. After we left the emergency room, Loren took me to a seedy bar in a weird part of Tulsa to show me how to hustle pool. I woke up last night feeling that I had allowed the merely urgent to displace the truly important. I Googled “Loren Ladic Lewis” and saw his obituary. My big brother died on June 20th of last year and no one told me. What's even worse is that in the 16 months that have come and gone since he died, I was always too busy to call either of the numbers I have known by heart for the past 48 years. What was I doing 17 months ago that was so desperately important? Is there a person you love that you haven't called in a while? Don't make me say Loren L. Lewis. Roy H. Williams

This recording was gathered on a brisk autumn day in the Trinity Mountains beside Bear Creek in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Trinity County, California. Light wind blows steadily through the trees above as the creek trickles by. Listen for the sound of Dark Eyed Juncos fluttering around in the nearby trees about ten minutes into the recording. I made a previous attempt at gathering a recording in this area a few days before this, but it is was a holiday weekend during hunting season and the sound of distant gunshots could be heard on the recording I made that day. So I returned to the area on a weekday and was fortunate to obtain this recording which is free from the unpleasant, if not disturbing, sound of gunfire. It's been ages since I last spoke to Justine Jones, chief throat shredder in Woking's Employed To Serve – which is a bit of an understatement really, ETS might just be the best home grown rock band to tread the boards of British music venues today. Justine is also the label boss at Church Road Records. I reckon it's got to be almost two years since we last conversed, and… well, a lot has happened in those two years. Having a natter is much overdue, the band have got a new record – their fourth, Conquering, is due to be released on September 17th via Spinefarm Records - and so this conversation takes place on a bizarrely hot Autumn Day. Apologies for the low level banging and clanging on this episode. I think Castle Spoook might have awoken a spirit or something – or maybe I just need to do something about the mic I'm currently using. The James McMahon Music Podcast is a Spoook Media production. Spoook is also a record label, a promoter, a shop, a Substack - it's many things. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter. Welcome to another episode of Stories That Made Us. This week's tale is a continuation of the past week, the second part of our three-part tale of Adam and Eve. In the previous episode, we spoke of God's intent to create man and angels' opposition to the love and freedom of will and conscience that God chose to gift mankind. We spoke of the creation of Adam, of the existence, nature, and the journey of our souls, and in doing so, we spent time talking about the disposition of an ideal man – and the nature of Adam. Check out all that if you've missed it in last week's episode! The tale continues this week, where we speak of the fall of Satan, the creation of woman, Adam and Eve's life in the garden of Eden, and finally, the fall of man.The story has been recounted from the book titled “The Legends of the Jews” by Louis Ginsberg.Reference:Title: The Legends of the Jews Volume 1Author: Louis GinzbergURL: https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/1493/pg1493.htmlWe're active on social media. Meet the race director of LOTOJA - Brent Chambers! The LoToJa was started in 1983 by two Logan cyclists, David Bern, a student at Utah State University, and Jeff Keller, the owner of Sunrise Cyclery. The two men wanted a race that resembled the difficulty of a one-day European classic like Paris-Roubaix or the Tour of Flanders. LoToJa's first year featured seven cyclists racing 192 miles from Logan to a finish line in Jackson's town square. The winning time was just over nine hours by Bob VanSlyke. Since then, LoToJa has grown into one of the nation's premier amateur cycling races and continues to be a grueling test of one's physical and mental stamina. Many compete to win their respective category, while others just ride to cross the finish line. At 200+ miles, LoToJa is the longest one-day USAC-sanctioned bicycle race in the country. Cyclists must conquer three mountain passes as they pedal through the scenic terrain of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming en route to a finish line below the rugged Tetons at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. https://lotoja.com

On this episode, Dill and Taylor prepare for Oktoberfest by sampling the self proclaimed original Oktoberfest beer, Spaten. While getting settled into the changing season, they crack open a Rainer Maria Rilke poem with "Autumn Day" while discussing the origins of Oktoberfest, both the beer and the celebration.
Here at Dead Waves we believe that all bodies are beautiful. It doesn't matter if you're a hideous amalgamation of flesh bound together by weird science because deep, deep, deep, deep down you are greater than the sum of all those spare parts. Grem doesn't know what to do with his hands. Lilith isn't older. Jack throws an "Autumn Day celebration". This week's special guests are London Smith and Cameron Clark of the Jock Doc Podcast! Today’s program marks the 300th episode of the Bible as Literature. Years ago, Fr. Marc and Richard’s wife, Hollie, were going back and forth on a title for the education program at St. Elizabeth—eventually, they opted for “The Ephesus School”—a name inspired by a paper Fr. Paul had recently presented. With the Benton’s move to Minnesota, Fr. Marc had been thinking about ideas for a podcast, something like “The Priest and the Professor” and Hollie, always in earshot of Fr. Marc’s and Richard’s discussions about the Bible, insisted that they record their conversations, “so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.” (John 4:36) With her encouragement, the project became a reality. It is providential that the 300th episode of the podcast falls on the parable of the sower in Matthew. “He who has ears, let him hear.” (Matthew 13:9) Richard and Fr. Marc discuss Matthew 13:1-9. One of the topics that we are asked about a lot has to do with insurance. How do you select the right insurance for your RV? If you make a mistake, you can overpay, or be under insured. There are so many variables that when it comes to choosing RV insurance, you need to know as much as possible, to make sure you're getting the best deal and the best coverage. This week in our interview of the week, we're going to dig into just that. Plus, as always, your RV questions, RV News of the week, Jennifer’s Tip, Traveling Technology suggestions and an off the beaten path report. Show Notes for Episode #219 Nov. 21, 2018 of Roadtreking - The RV Podcast: WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK We’re back home in Michigan for the holidays. Next event is our winter campout in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We are taking Bo up camping at Tahquamenon January 11-13th. We have a tradition of five years of doing this and Bo insists on a snow vacation before we head south. Anyway, we have reserved site 177. Openings are filling up fast for that weekend. We can't make later dates because of other official commitments later that month. But if you also want to head up there, you need to reserve your own spot with the Michigan DNR at Tahquamenon Falls State Park, at the Lower Falls Hemlock campground. Here's the website: https://www.midnrreservations.com/TAHQUAMENONFALLSSTATEPARK If you do, let us know you're coming and request to join our special Facebook Grpup that we have set up for this event at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697339513886451/ We’re celebrating the RV Podcast being the Number One Podcast in the list of the Top 15 podcasts released by by Feedspot, a respected web service that rates logs, news websites, Youtube Channels, podcasts, magazines, RSS feeds and Social Sites accounts worldwide. We were chosen, said Feedspot, “from thousands of RV Podcasts on the web using search and social metrics…because they are actively working to educate, inspire, and empower their readers with frequent updates and high-quality information.” The judging was by Feedspot's editorial team and expert reviewers and based on, among other things, our influence, popularity, quality and consistency of posts. That's pretty exciting and we wanted to share that with you, who, after all, make it possible by listening and reading us! See https://blog.feedspot.com/rv_podcasts/ The second exciting announcement is that we have released a new book called RV Buying Secrets, that demystifies the RV buying experience in a 70-plus page guide that will give you a step-by-step process to buy a new or used RV at a fair price. If you've spent any amount of time researching RVs, you'll know that the RV buying process can be completely overwhelming and confusing. There are so many different models and manufacturers to choose from, floor plans, amenities and everything in between. That's why we wrote the guide, to give prospective buyers an exact plan to follow, a plan that lays out the exact steps to take from an idea of the RV Lifestyle to you driving home in the perfect RV for you. You can learn more about it at https://rvlifestyle.com/buy RV LIFESTYLE NEWS OF THE WEEK MIKE More states are urging residents to make Black Friday a Green Friday by going outside This week many of us will enjoy spending Thanksgiving with friends and families, but what to do on Friday? Why not head outdoors? Many state parks across the country are urging everyone to make Black Friday a Green Friday, by offering free or discounted admission and offering special outdoor-related activities. Oregon has even renamed the day Green Friday, and in Washington state they are calling it Autumn Day. (click here for more info). South Carolina is offering deep discounts (click here), and many, many other states have similar plans. The whole #OptOutside movement was started by the retailer REI several years ago and has really caught on. Click here for more info. JENNIFER
