Colin Ryan is a Senior Development Engineer at Norco and was involved in the design of the latest Norco Optic trail bike which features a high-pivot design. Prior to joining Norco he worked at General Kinetics testing and developing shock absorbers for military and construction equipment. At a basic level, what problem does a high pivot design solve? Is there a certain type of riding that benefits from having a high pivot? What are the drawbacks to the design? Does a high pivot design improve longevity for certain components? With less chain wrap on the crank, are dropped chains an issue with a high pivot setup? How does the placement of the idler pulley affect performance? What about the number of teeth on the idler cog? Did moving from a traditional setup to high-pivot change the ride feel of the Norco Optic significantly? The decision to use a high pivot on a short, 125mm travel bike is a controversial one. Why do you think that is? The latest Optic is said to be lighter than the previous version. How much weight does the idler hardware add, and how did you manage to make the bike lighter overall? How is the intended use of the Optic different from the Fluid which has a very similar amount of travel (140/130mm)? What's next for high pivot mountain bike designs? Cover photo: Matt Miller. Maisie Adam tells the shocking story of jealousy, deceit and a brutal attack on a Paris Saint-Germain player that turned team-mates into the bitterest enemies. Its a story that has gripped the French public since the arrest of PSG star Aminata Diallo in November 2021, suspected of ordering an attack on her team-mate and previously good friend, Kheira Hamraoui. The accusation was Diallo wanted Hamraoui's place in the PSG starting line-up and so instructed a group of masked men to intercept the two players on a car journey home together and then assault Hamraoui, targetting her legs. And this is exactly how events played out. Police investigations following the attack initially led them to Diallo's door although with too little evidence to charge her Diallo was released, presumed innocent. Instead the spotlight turned on the victim Hamraoui. Intimate details of her private life became public knowledge, including an affair with a married man who just happened to be a French football superstar. Diallo returned to play alongside Hamraoui back at PSG – and at this point life became hell for Hamraoui. Team-mates, opponents and even her own fans, acting in sympathy with Diallo, targeted her with vicious verbal abuse. It seemed everyone was against Hamraoui, including a controversial football agent, who would be accused of putting pressure on PSG to sell Hamraoui, and whose presence at training the player found intimidating. The PSG coach found himself caught up in the fall-out too, taking phone calls urging him to drop Hamraoui, and also receiving thinly-veiled threats if he didn't. He would end up in a fight to clear his name from terrible accusations. Then in September 2022, almost out of the blue, Daillo was re-arrested and this time the public prosecutor charged her. Statements from the men who carried out the attack identifying her as the mastermind along with months of secret phone surveillance convinced the police she was guilty. But is she? With the case still to come to trial this podcast presents the evidence and hears the opinions from those closest to the case, and those who think she's innocent, and those who think she's guilty. High-pivot bikes are becoming increasingly common but they're still mostly reserved for longer-travel Enduro and DH models. Given that, Norco's decision to move their 150mm-travel Sight and especially the 125mm-travel Optic to that layout was arguably a bit of a surprise — and it wasn't one Norco made lightly. So we sat down with Norco engineer, Colin Ryan, to get the rundown on the new Optic and Sight, including the decision to go high-pivot and the testing that they used to validate it; how the suspension design of the new bikes differs from their other high-pivot models (and the prior-generation Optic and Sight); their new Ride Aligned setup guides; and a whole lot more.RELATED LINKS:BLISTER+ MembershipBLISTER+ Real World TestimonialsBlister LabsThis Week's Gear GiveawayBlister Mountain Bike Buyer's GuideTOPICS & TIMES:Introducing Colin (2:50)The new Optic & Sight (3:47)Test mules for the new bikes & lessons learned (10:06)Shock spec and developing tunes (19:29)The new Ride Aligned setup guides (23:58)Wheel sizes (31:37)Geometry (37:32)Sprindex springs & making setup easier (42:51)Idler pulley testing (44:23)The Fluid & getting weird with the Optic (46:23)OUR OTHER PODCASTSBlister CinematicCRAFTEDGEAR:30Blister PodcastOff The Couch Hosted on Acast. From Colin -- I've been a fan of Diana Kander ever since I read All In Startup back in 2014. Her latest book is all about pitching and presenting, and she actually charts out the proven flow of a pitch that is surprising, memorable and gets you the deal. This book taps into so many thing I consult with leaders on, I had to have her on to share Diana and her book with you! ---------Notes: ~5:00 The Mug Moment! ~7:00 The Forgetting Curve “Our research revealed that within an hour the audience forgets 50% of what you said, within a week they forget 90%. If you want them to remember more than 10% (which might not even be the 10% you want them to remember) you have to spike their emotions during the presentation.” ~21:00 The importance of being a lifelong learner… “Think of something you're awesome at, and I challenge you to go read a book on it and not 5 things you can be doing even better. That's how we grow. As soon as you're satisfied, you start stagnating.” ~24:00 Colin and Diana talk about our initial exploratory/sales calls, and what we've both learned about how most people make this pitch in the wrong order. ~26:00 mark, there's a really cool little moment where Diana clearly thinks of something she wants to say and she swallows it to keep listening!! All kinds of meta. ~28:00 Diana offers YOU the listener, unprompted, a special surprise gift! Wexford were defeated heavily by Clare on Sunday. We dissect the performance and what's next, with Clare All Ireland winner Colin Ryan and former Wexford centre back Andrew Shore.
The President of Ennis Chamber says it's inevitable that Ireland's economy will feel pain in the coming year. It comes after the European Central Bank increased interest rates by 0.5%, the forth rate rise since the summer. The ECB says rates will still have to rise significantly because inflation remains far too high. Ennis Chamber President and Bank of Ireland Manager, Colin Ryan is hopeful we've reached the top of the tree when it comes to financial uncertainty and that investment in green energy will help us weather the storm next year.
The president of Ennis Chamber is calling on the government to keep the introduction of the auto-enrolment pension scheme under review. In a milestone development this week, the government approved plans for auto-enrolment pensions and has forwarded the plans to an Oireachtas committee for pre-legislative scrutiny. The scheme will see employers match the contributions of their employees, with contributions rising from 1.5% of a person's salary in the first three years to 6% after 10 years. Bank of Ireland manager and Ennis Chamber President, Colin Ryan says while he wouldn't call for the scheme to be delayed at present, he'd urge government to react accordingly.
The president of Ennis Chamber says the increase in interest rates by the European Central Bank signals a recession is 'just around the corner'. Colin Ryan, who is also a manager with Bank of Ireland, says the government need to accept that a recession is inevitable.
The President of Ennis Chamber says the inflationary cycle is quickly becoming a 'runaway train'. It comes as the value of the euro has hit a two-decade low this week. Colin Ryan, President of Ennis Chamber and Tommy Corbett of Carey Corbett Financial Solutions have been speaking with Clare FM's Morning Focus about the situation.

How does the sports card market crash impact what's going to happen?
Ennis Chamber's President says businesses across the county town and the rest of Clare are 'very worried' about an uncertain economic outlook for the rest of the year. President of Ennis Chamber and Bank of Ireland branch manager, Colin Ryan, says a lack of discretionary income is a concern for local businesses.

A bonus podcast for you... Camelot's End is a great book about the fight between Jimmy Carter and Ted Kennedy in the runup to the 1980 election. It fractured the Democratic Party, and most likely helped Reagan win the election.
Colin & Ryan make a RARE DUAL in studio appearance. With private security flanking the door, the twins light into the recent trimmed, fake & altered graded cards by PSA or BGS. 40% of you don't have $1,000 saved in your bank account but 100% of you might have trimmed slabs. The 'Midget from Miami' has threatened a lawsuit against Sports Card Radio. We respond to him and his low rent South Beach lawyer. While you guys keep chasing pictures on grown men, Colin just scooped a new Rolex Daytona and Ryan's 30th match on Bumble just slid into the Tesla. And oh yeah, GET BACK to WORK..... SCRUBS!

The Intuitive Customer - Improve Your Customer Experience To Gain Growth
There is an abundance of theory in behavioral economics which can seem overwhelming. How can Marketing and Customer experience teams start using it today. In this podcast we give you an overview of the big ideas. To do this, Ryan has developed a framework of the four key principles - a summary of the four principles of human behavior. Ryan calls this the 4R's. 1: Reference points. Reference points is the idea that people evaluate almost anything by comparing it to something else. If you want to figure out how people are going to evaluate something you need to figure out where they're starting from. 2: Reason What are the reasons that people have for choosing or not choosing to use your service? What are the reasons people use to for justify their choice? How does Behavioral economics affect this? 3: Resources All businesses want their experience to be easy. Customer crave this. But why? The reason is because people have a limited amount of cognitive resources to devote to things, a limited amount of attention, a limited amount of patience. Try to consider that when you are trying to anticipate how people are going to make decisions and how they're going to evaluate an experience. 4: Replacement This is the idea that people like to get ‘stuff' done and that includes making decisions. If people need to make some certain evaluation with regards to your experience, your product or service. In fact, evaluating the offering on its merits or are they using some heuristic or some substitution to answer your question? If you would like to find out how you can implement these in your organization, please listen to the podcast to hear Colin & Ryan explain this further. 145 | Live Panel of ADHD Experts This Week’s Episode: At my local CHADD chapter (), we hosted a panel of experts and in this episode, you will hear the Q&A from this panel session. I sat on the panel, as did Lisa Alexoff, Dr. Colin Ryan, Dr. Jeremy Kaplan, and Jonathan Carroll. This conversation tends to focus on ADHD in adolescents. The panel spends a lot of time discussing childhood ADHD and answering question from attendees on that topic. The last 15 minutes of the discussion is on adult ADHD. You’ll Learn: [10:25] – Dr. Ryan describes some materials he hands out to the attendees, including a medication log, which helps you track usage, dosage, and results. [11:50] – Another resource Dr. Ryan provides is a document entitled, “Does my child have ADHD?”, which is from the American Pediatric Association. [13:45] – Dr. Ryan describes a timeline that he provides attendees. It lays out the steps families should take to identify if a student has ADHD. Ryan walks through all of these steps. [21:43] – Dr. Ryan explains the difference between a psychological assessment and a neuro-psychological assessment. [23:05] – Dr. Kaplan explains his role as a psychiatrist, which is to help give the medication that is necessary to treat an individual’s ADHD. [25:21] – An attendee that has two children on medication asks how likely it is that her children will grow out of the need for medication for their ADHD. Kaplan provides a general answer for this question. He talks about why children in school situations require medication at that time, but may not require it later in life. [29:00] – I share some research findings that show that teenagers that are “forced” to be on medication by parents are more likely to stop taking medication in their 20s than teenagers are given the choice to take medication. [31:50] – Jonathan Carroll introduces himself to the group of attendees. [33:50] – Jonathan describes what an ADHD coach does for their clients. [36:26] – A mother (with ADD) that has two children with ADHD asks if medication help her children learn the skills to not be as impacted as an adult. Lisa says, “Pills don’t teach skills, but we can’t teach the skills if the pills aren’t on board.” [40:03] – A mother (recently diagnosed with ADHD) has a child with ADHD and anxiety and a child with depression, anxiety, Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD. One of her sons is not open to organizational strategies. She is looking for advice in this situation. The panel shares thoughts on this situation. [49:05] – We discuss the idea of sometimes needing to let students fail and preferring to have that happen in middle school, rather than when the students have gone away to college. [1:01:00] – An attendee talks about how his life has benefited because of ADHD. [1:02:34] – An attendee that has a child with ADHD asks if it is normal to jump around between medications and dosages. Dr. Kaplan addresses why this happens. [1:09:17] – An attendee asks a question about genetic testing. This leads to a discussion on the topic. [1:14:24] – The panel discusses that there are different types and presentations in the “spectrum” of ADHD and things can change in different points in life. [1:17:59] – An attendee asks a question about his three-year old daughter. He sees a lot of signs of ADHD, where others write the actions off as a just being a typical three-year old. The panel discusses early intervention. [1:24:20] – An attendee asks a question about evaluating and making a diagnosis for adults. [1:30:15] – An attendee asks what a good educational advocate looks like, and what can reasonably be expected from them? [1:33:57] – An attendee asks about finding a medication that works, but over time it becomes less effective. The panel discusses possible explanations. Aside from fear, there’s only one thing standing in the way of you living your ideal life: money. To start, it’s hard to let go of the steady paycheck and take a chance on a different way of doing things. In this episode of the Wandering Workers Podcast we talk with comedic financial speaker Colin Ryan about how to overcome this barrier. In addition to being a financial expert, Colin has first hand experience taking a risk to create the life he imagined. Drawing from his experiences as a stand up comedian, his idea was to use humor to address what is normally a serious topic. The result is that he talks honestly and openly about a subject that normally makes people uncomfortable, and his advice resonates with anyone who’s ever dreamed of something bigger. Money, Motivation, and Momentum His message that “your ability to manage your money directly affects…Continue Reading The post The Secret to Achieving Your Dreams appeared first on Wandering Workers.
