TRUSTWORTHY. NATURAL. SMOOTH. VERSATILE. These are some of the adjectives used to describe the voice of the guest joining me today. Brad Vinikow, is a full-time voice over artist, producer, musician, composer, video producer, editor and one heck of a nice person to boot.  He has recorded thousands of radio and television commercials, sales/ trade show/ eLearning videos plus several audiobooks. Brad has also voiced multiple characters for videogames including ‘Legion of Heroes' and ‘Blade and Soul'. His documentary narration includes the fascinating 2019 two-part documentary "Apollo: Back to the Moon", celebrating the 50th anniversary of humanity's greatest achievement in space that Brad voiced for The National Geographic Channel. He is the founder of IMPACT Communications Group, a full-service production company specializing in voice over and video production for businesses of all sizes. Brad is also the founder of My Voiceover Business Builder which provides tips, techniques and tools to help voice talent be successful. But with all of Brad's aforementioned success, it's his love of music that has been the foundation for joy in his life - and what he believes is his ‘purpose' for being on this planet. Brad has shared his musical talent on recordings, live concerts and for 7 years as the keyboardist with Ray Sidney and Firm Foundation for the ‘House of Blues Sunday Gospel Brunch'. “Rather than clutter social media with every detail of my day-to-day life, I'd rather just share a few highlights now and then,” says Brad. So, to chat about some of those highlights and to introduce the only person I've ever known to get paid for saying “this ain't your momma's wool”, I'd like to welcome Brad Vinikow to 19 Stories. Per Brad's generous offer to receive a copy of his original song ‘Thank Ya' – and a link to the music video for it via email, which will be mastered and finished in February 2023, write to him at: Voice@BradsVO.com To listen to Brad's voice over demos or contact him for work, visit his website at: https://www.bradsvo.com/    If you have a story idea for Cheryl, or would like to contact her for voice work, host a podcast you have, or to record your intros/outros or midroll, you may contact her at:  cherylholling.com or Email her at: 19stories@soundsatchelstudios.com Follow her on Instagram: @cherylhollingvo Thank you so much for listening. Songs popping up in commercials, movies & television is not a new thing. However, you can end up very surprised when it happens with a certain artist or song. How many people were shocked when they first heard "Revolution" by The Beatles being used to sell Nike sneakers? It can be done well, but we seem to be still figuring out how. With the recent rise in seemingly every legacy artist selling the rights to their catalog, it makes music fans wonder how & when these songs we love are going to be used. We felt this warranted a serious discussion, so we called our friend Dayton from the dockingbay77 podcast to help us out. In this episode Russ & Dayton talk through everyone from Taylor Swift to The Beatles to Black Sabbath and more. Commercials were a big deal in the 1980s. With only three networks, advertisers had a better chance of reaching more people and making a big splash that would even make Don Draper proud. And the decade gave us commercials that were not only entertaining but became part of the pop culture landscape. A good catchphrase or slogan could catch on like wildfire and would become part of our vocabulary overnight.  In this episode, I count down the ten best commercials of the decade, taking into account entertainment value, marketing, and pop culture relevance. Just me babbling after belting out three treatments for three different projects. Yes, I am fortunate to have such opportunities. But I often wonder why the skill set of making a glossy PDF is needed. I do like that the process of writing forces me to be economical with the storytelling. If you grew up in the 80s, you definitely knew Max Headroom especially from commercials and music videos. You may not know how much further back he goes to a TV movie from England in 1985. Max Headroom was played by Matt Frewer but created by a group of people as a take on the growing use of soulless TV news reporters. This episode is all about the very deep mythology and backstory to the character of Max Headroom and how he was a lot more than just a usage in commercials for New Coke.  Show Notes: Max Headroom

Ep.15 - And Now... A Word from Our Sponsor Tim and Kyle explore the thinking behind Luminary's non-Tweet about podcast ads by exposing the realities behind an advertising-based monetization strategy. Episode at a Glance: Tim and Kyle questioning the reasons behind why Luminary tweeted: "Podcasts don’t need ads" and then apologized and deleted the tweet. This leads to a conversation that begins with, "Well, is Luminary technically correct? The best kind of correct?" We then weigh the pros and cons of having skip buttons in apps and if listeners are actually skipping most podcast ads. Tim talks about how a podcast ad led him to buy a new product based on the host's recommendation -- and how it worked out well! What did we learn? Both Kyle and Tim agree that we are not against podcast ads, we just want better ads that take your audience into consideration. Practice moderation. Too many ads -- no matter if they are host read or not -- is still too many ads. If the advertising message or product matches the host AND the host's audience, then the ad actually works up to 25-percent of the time. Host read ads appear to fit the content better because the host can personally connect the ad to the podcast. However, automated ad placement is still tone-deaf by creating a jarring listening experience created by poor placement and content alignment (SNL even made fun of this fact). The data shows that loyal followers will both trust a sponsor AND buy their product if they advertise with their favorite host. Sponsors are still the best way to monetize a podcast, even if you only sponsor yourself. Sorry, Luminary. Ads or no ads, paywalls for podcasting are still a bad idea (like we told you back in Episode #3). Additional Reading: The future of the podcast business isn’t advertising or subscriptions. While this does show that US radio’s $15.9bn annual revenue is beginning to come to podcasting (which stands at a more meager $314m), none of radio’s other big advertisers are yet visible in the podcast top 15." ― Podnews.net [A Sponsor] HAS to fit my audience. [That's why I charge $90 an episode]. How did I come up with this? I felt $50 wasn't work the extra effort and paperwork involved. $70 didn't seem enough as I have a niche audience. $120 I was worried that they may not get their money back. I settled at $90. I'm thinking in the future I might charge $100 as I can do that and still sleep, and look at myself in the mirror" ― Dave Jackson, School of Podcasting Signal to Podwrecked: Email Us: podwrecked AT GMAIL DOT com All our Show Notes: podwrecked.com All our Episodes: podwrecked.libsyn.com Podwrecked is a Gagglepod production.
