Donald Trump has made the issue of immigration a key battleground in US politics. But with public opinion swinging against the brutal ICE raids and deportations over the past year, how should the Left respond? On the latest episode of Confronting Capitalism, Vivek Chibber and Melissa Naschek are joined by Catalyst board member Suzy Lee. Suzy has written extensively on the political economy and politics of American immigration and migration more broadly. Together, they look at how Trump capitalized on the post-COVID surge in immigration and offer an alternative vision around immigrant rights and border politics. Today's podcast is titled “Free Speech: Campus Arrests and Deportations.” Recorded in 2025, host Jim Falk is joined by Paul Butler, a First Amendment attorney and partner at Jackson Walker, and Jeremy Suri, presidential historian and Mack Brown Distinguished Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Together, they examine the growing pressure on free speech and academic freedom in the United States, from the detention of foreign students to the defunding of universities that resist government demands. Their conversation explores what the First Amendment does — and doesn’t — protect, and what’s at stake when those rights go undefended. …

X: @RepFine @americasrt1776 @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @supertalk @JTitMVirginia Join America's Roundtable radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with U.S. Congressman Randy Fine, member of the House Foreign Relations Committee and the Education and Workforce Committee. He is one of the most effective communicators in Congress in advancing our shared values and principles. A third-generation Floridian, Randy built a career as a successful entrepreneur, founding and running businesses in retail, technology, and hospitality. He has been an active Boy Scout volunteer, serving as both Cubmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster. The son of two public school teachers, Randy graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a degree in government and later earned his MBA from Harvard Business School, where he graduated with high distinction as one of the youngest Baker Scholars in decades. Congressman Fine also serves as a member of the Freedom Caucus, Republican Study Committee and the Judea and Samaria Caucus. The conversation will explore practical and principled approaches to reducing the cost of housing and healthcare, as well as the critical importance of election integrity, with a strong majority of Americans supporting voter identification requirements, according to Pew Research. Recent studies cited by the White House suggest a correlation between the deportation of individuals residing in the United States illegally and declining housing costs in several major metropolitan areas. The Trump administration noted that "14 of the top 20 U.S. metro areas with the largest undocumented migrant populations experienced year-over-year declines in home listing prices." The discussion also highlights historical immigration enforcement trends. According to published reports, the administration of President Barack Obama formally removed approximately 3 million noncitizens from the United States during his time in office. The program will also examine growing concerns over Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons and discuss strategies to prevent the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism from threatening global security and holding the free world hostage. americasrt.com https://ileaderssummit.org/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 X: @RepFine @ileaderssummit @americasrt1776 @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @supertalk @JTitMVirginia America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. On this episode of The Truth with Lisa Boothe, Lisa sits down with Scott Mechkowski, a 22-year ICE veteran and former Deputy Field Office Director for ICE’s New York City Field Office, to discuss the growing battle over immigration enforcement, sanctuary state policies, and deportation operations in America. Markowski shares firsthand insight into how sanctuary city and sanctuary state laws impact ICE operations, why detention facilities like Delaney Hall have become political flashpoints, and what happens after illegal immigrants receive deportation orders. He also explains the challenges ICE agents face on the job, rising hostility toward law enforcement, and why he believes many misconceptions about immigration enforcement persist in the public debate. The conversation covers New York Governor Kathy Hochul's latest sanctuary state legislation, Border Czar Tom Homan’s response, the role of detention centers in the deportation process, criminal illegal immigration, public safety concerns, and the future of immigration enforcement under President Trump.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
With the attempted beheading in Belfast and other heinous crimes from 3rd world migrants here and in Europe, mass migration is again coming to the forefront. The perception is that mass migration is cruel and terrible. But the truth is, government-led mass deportations are the moderate option. We should take this action while we still can.

The birthright citizenship case and immigration raids have drawn headlines and national attention, but Lucas Guttentag, who teaches immigration law at Stanford and Yale law schools, says some of the Trump administration's most consequential immigration changes are unfolding with far less public scrutiny. Guttentag, one of the nation's leading immigration law experts and founder of the ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project, joins host Professor Pamela Karlan for a wide-ranging conversation about current American immigration policies. Guttentag discusses his time in the Biden administration and compares policies in the first Trump administration with those of the second. He also focuses on the Immigration Policy Tracking Project, an effort he launched in 2017 with law students to document every Trump administration immigration policy, implementation memo, directive, and related legal challenge. The tracker, he explains, is designed to make visible what can otherwise be hard to see: hundreds of policy changes that, taken together, are reshaping the immigration system. The episode examines what these changes mean for immigration courts, bond hearings, temporary protected status, green card applications, and the lawyers challenging the administration in court. One of Guttentag's central points is that immigration is a civil system, not a criminal one, and the distinction matters for anyone trying to understand what is happening now. Former Commander of the Border Patrol Greg Bovino joins me to discuss his push to resume mass deportations. Bovino explains the full-spectrum strategy that was implemented when the administration began deportation and why it was so effective in closing the border. We discuss why that strategy was placed on hold by the forces arrayed against the deportation mission. Bovino also lays out why deportations are the only political issue that matters in the current political environment. Sweden's government has announced what they say is a long-term solution to the issue of teen deportations, but those impacted say it's not enough. Listen to hear from Shahrdad Sherbabaki, one of the young people who received a deportation order due to existing migration laws, which prevent the children of foreign residents from receiving family-based visas once they turn 18.Also: A Sweden Democrat MP has resigned and quit the Riksdag after it emerged he was under investigation for child pornography offences. And: We hear new details about how the Migration Agency intends to handle citizenship applications from next week, once tougher eligibility rules come into effect.
The European Union has finalized key elements of its strictest-ever immigration agreement, prompting right-wing politician Charlie Weimers to pronounce that "the era of deportations has begun." Irish MEP Regina Doherty tells us why she's aligned with the people behind that kind of rhetoric. U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra has made some questionable comments in public, but Quebec trade representative Louise Blais says he was much more diplomatic in their private meeting today. We remember Grammy-winning R&B artist Peabo Bryson, who infused his songs, including the Disney classics "Beauty and the Beast" and "A Whole New World" with magic. Regina Belle tells us what made singing with him so special. As temperatures rise, students in Winnipeg are feeling the heat, with classrooms hitting 30 plus degrees Celsius. And one mother, teacher and board of trustees chair says conditions are no longer safe. Get this patty started. It looks ridiculous, but tastes ridiculously good — and that's why an aesthetically disastrous burger from one Montreal restaurant has been named the fifth-best in the world. As It Happens, the Wednesday Edition. Radio that thinks this story is a real something-burger.
For years, researchers and advocates have documented the barriers students from immigrant families face when pursuing higher education. But the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign has introduced new challenges and fears, even for many immigrants who are legally in the United States. Welcome to The Kevin Jackson Show! You know, one of the most fascinating things about politics is how quickly people move from confidence to legal defense funds. One day you're the future of the party. The next day you're hiring attorneys. That's not a career path. That's a weather forecast. And speaking of forecasts, have you noticed how quiet the southern border has gotten?Remember when we were told the border was impossible to secure? Remember when we were informed that millions of people pouring into the country was simply the new normal? We were told that walls don't work. Enforcement doesn't work. Deportation doesn't work. Deterrence doesn't work.Turns out the only thing that didn't work was the political will.Illegal immigration has slowed to what can only be described as a trickle compared to the flood Americans endured for years. Not because geography changed. Not because the Rio Grande dried up. Not because coyotes suddenly found religion.Policy changed. And now the United States is reportedly working with other countries as part of a much broader deportation strategy. Think about how remarkable that is.[X] SB – SoS RubioFor years Washington acted like deporting people was harder than building a nuclear reactor. Suddenly we're coordinating internationally. It's almost as if the problem was never capability. It was desire.Meanwhile, Senator Ruben Gallego has launched a legal defense fund. Now that's interesting.Very interesting.Because politicians don't generally establish legal defense funds the way people start Christmas clubs.Nobody says, "You know what? Nothing's wrong, but let's raise money for lawyers."That's not how it works.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

After about two months on the job, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has shifted the agency's immigration enforcement efforts toward tactics that generate fewer headlines but still result in mass deportations. The latest episode of the Center for Immigration Studies podcast examines how the federal government can reduce illegal immigration through administrative, financial, and workplace enforcement measures designed to encourage self-deportation rather than relying primarily on large-scale arrest operations. Andrew Arthur, the Center's fellow in law and policy, joins George Fishman, the Center's senior legal fellow, […]
Mary and Andrew begin this week by tackling a decision by a U.S. District Judge to dismiss criminal charges against Kilmar Ábrego García, calling the administration's case against García a vindictive prosecution for challenging his illegal deportation last year. Mary and Andrew couple this topic with a conversation about the “Broadview Six” case, involving a group of Chicago ICE protesters whose criminal case was dropped, similarly, due to misconduct by the DOJ. Then, Mary and Andrew continue a discussion from last week about Trump's $1.776 billion settlement with the IRS — specifically about an addendum to the settlement which grants Trump and "affiliated individuals" extremely broad protections from future prosecutions. They then talk about Carmen Lineberger, a former federal prosecutor indicted for sending unreleased files from the Jack Smith report to her personal email account. Plus, a conversation about a decision by a federal judge who has ordered the White House to comply with the Presidential Records Act, undermining the DOJ's ability to give the administration a legal way to destroy White House records from the second Trump term.
