I'm very excited to welcome Umberto Fedeli back for his third conversation. In our first two conversations — episode 135 and episode 171 — we explored Umberto's remarkable life journey, deep-rooted wisdom, and how he's mastered the craft of building authentic relationships and connecting people across business, politics, and philanthropy. Those episodes are timeless and packed with valuable insights — I highly recommend listening to them to set the stage for today's discussion. In this episode, we delve deeper into these foundational ideas, unpacking the origins of Umberto's relentless commitment to relationships, mentorship, and personal growth. We explore how to navigate the delicate balance between patience and persistence, between progress and perfection, and ultimately, how to cultivate resilience and rationality during times of uncertainty. We also dive into Umberto's perspective on the current state of the world — from economics and politics to tariffs. We talk about volatility, the fundamental human need for love and connection, regrets, legacy, and much more. Please enjoy this insightful, continued discussion with Umberto Fedeli. On a technical note, due to unexpected issues with our recording equipment at the time of this session, portions of the episode were lost. These segments have been audibly enhanced using speech technology in an effort to restore clarity and continuity. We appreciate your understanding regarding any subtle auditory or phonetic inconsistencies.-----LINKS:https://www.thefedeligroup.com/-----SPONSOR:Roundstone InsuranceRoundstone Insurance is proud to sponsor Lay of The Land. Sonia Winner is the CEO of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. In July 2018, she became the 10th director of the Museum in its more than 100-year history, dating back to 1920. Since then, she has spearheaded a $150 million reinvention of the institution—reimagining its campus and exhibits to highlight the interconnectedness of life on Earth.Under her leadership, the Museum continues its century-long legacy as one of the nation's top natural history institutions, stewarding over 12,000 acres of protected ecosystems and housing more than 5 million artifacts and specimens. It is supported by a nearly 60-member Board of Directors, 140 staff members, and approximately $282 million in assets. Before joining CMNH, Sonia built an impressive career in higher education and philanthropy. At Columbia University, she led record-breaking fundraising efforts, helping to secure $6.1 billion for the university. Prior to that, she held leadership roles at Case Western Reserve University, serving as associate dean of both the Weatherhead School of Management and the School of Law. A lawyer by training, she also served as Director of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. This was an amazing conversation! Sonia's passion for this work shines through as we explore the transformative power of museums, cultivating childhood curiosity, the Museum's rich history and legacy, her personal journey to leading a major cultural institution, the ambitious centennial project aimed at revitalizing the museum experience, the overall business of museums, and so much more.00:00:00 – The Magic of Museums and Childhood Curiosity 00:06:59 – Personal Reflections on Museums and Nature 00:09:07 – Sonia's Journey to the Museum Leadership 00:16:42 – Understanding the Cleveland Museum of Natural History 00:17:02 – The Museum's Legacy and Community Impact 00:19:56 – Honoring History While Embracing Change 00:25:50 – The Centennial Project and Its Vision 00:31:52 – The Business of Museums: Challenges and Opportunities 00:35:15 – Balancing Accessibility and Sustainability in Museums 00:36:28 – Creating Memorable Visitor Experiences 00:37:38 – Dinosaurs: The Gateway to Natural History 00:40:45 – The Role of Museums in Scientific Literacy 00:45:22 – Trust in Museums: A Reflection of Society 00:47:41 – Understanding the Value of Local Museums 00:50:04 – Personal Stories and the Impact of Museums 00:52:03 – The Future of Museums: Programming and Community Engagement 00:53:13 – Leadership Lessons in the Museum Sector 00:56:43 – Women in Leadership: Challenges and Opportunities 00:57:27 – Hidden Gem -----LINKS:https://www.cmnh.org/https://www.linkedin.com/in/sonia-winner-2699123/-----SPONSOR:Roundstone InsuranceRoundstone Insurance is proud to sponsor Lay of The Land. Everyone loves a good shortcut, but they're usually called that for a reason. If it were truly the best option, it would just be the way. With a shortcut you're sacrificing something or taking a risk. In Romans 2, the apostle Paul warns about spiritual shortcuts, a temptation that plagued ancient Israel and first century Christians. Today's world is no different. We want all the credit, but we want things easy. Let God's Word teach you what the best and only way is through our study of Romans 2:25-29. All rights reserved. Who doesn't want to encounter God? Ah, yes, with head bowed while soft light streams through stained glass. Ah, yes, like a picture-perfect Facebook or Instagram post, with a cup of coffee steaming next to an open Bible . . . bonus points for a journal next to it. Sure, those are ways to experience God. But Abraham, Moses, Ruth, David, Job, and a host of other Bible heroes would have gladly traded their experiences of meeting God with such idyllic scenes. They met God in suffering. And so might you. Welcome to the end of our series on the Poetical Books of the Bible. Today we'll ask the Spirit to bless us through the conclusion of the book of Job. It's not just the end of Job's suffering. May we see in it, the end of our suffering, and maybe some purpose to it. All rights reserved. Music used by permission under CCLI #1600166, OneLicense #A-709447, and Worshipflow.com. "Adversity assails us with hurricane force," has been attributed to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. That was true for him, and it was true for an earlier Dr. Martin Luther who wrote, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God." A fortress will outlast a hurricane. So where do you turn when adversity assails you? For millennia, God's people have turned to the inspired words of Psalm 121. We're glad you're with us today to find in it our mighty fortress. “It was bound to happen.” When have you said that? The phrase applies equally to an unwelcome event (“The way he drove, an accident was bound to happen”) and to a happier experience (“As gifted as she is, the promotion was bound to happen”). The phrase applies to Jesus, too. Jesus was “cross-bound”—given his love for sinners, his obedience to his Father, and the weight of guilt, he was bound to suffer and die. But Jesus took up his life again; it was bound to happen because he rules over death, and his sacrifice satisfied the justice of God. After Jesus paid the penalty of sin, he was “cross-freed.” His resurrection, too, was bound to happen. May these worship services help you acknowledge Jesus: both cross-bound and cross-freed. In this episode, Cherise is joined by Michael Schroeder, Partner at SGA. He spearheads the firm's Virtual Design and Construction arm, which he has led the growth and development of since 2014. Michael shares his experience working on The Kraft Group Office Project at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. You can see the project here as you listen along. This addition to the existing Stadium is the first phase of a new, multipurpose building designed by SGA for the New England Patriots, International Forest Products and their parent owners, the Kraft Group. The four-story, 120,000-square-foot facility was designed to work with the stadium's original architecture and interior building flow. Incredibly, this project was designed, built, and fully operational in just one year! This project had unique challenges and opportunities - a hyper speed to market schedule requirement, the complexity of working with an existing structure, the use of proprietary management tools to aid in coordination and efficient delivery, and much more.If you enjoy this episode, visit arcat.com/podcast for more. This week Lee and Leah and joined by their friend and fellow podcaster Gary Hill to talk about the underseen "Out of the Dark" (1988), directed by Michael Schroeder, and featuring a bunch of "that guy" character actors getting a chance to strut their stuff. Does this late-period slasher film about a deranged john in a clown mask, stalking the phone sex workers he harasses, have anything worth talking about when the genre itself was all but dead at that point? Other topics brought up: phone sex lines; commercials for phone sex lines; late night commercials in general, and how television just went off the air back in the day; Paul Bartel in a bad wig; and Divine's last role. The hosts also talk about what they've watched recently. So, pick up the phone, because we're ready to have a good time with you. Check out Lee and Leah's recent guest shot on The Grindbin Podcast here. Find Gary's stuff here. "Out of the Dark" IMDB Featured Music: "Clown" by The Hollies & "Death of a Clown" by The Kinks.
Pain is a reality of life. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. We might be very different, though, in how we respond to it. What do you do when you're feeling pain? This weekend, learn from the prophet Jeremiah. His was an exceptionally hard and tragic life. He's even called "The Weeping Prophet!" We're glad you're here with your brothers and sisters feeling pain to receive the same comfort, salvation, and the glory God gave Jeremiah. All rights reserved. You know what it's like to groan. When what you feel is beyond words, a groan will have to do. In Romans 8, Paul writes about groaning. Paul, creation, and the Holy Spirit groan. But God not only knows about your groaning, he is eager to encourage you and remind you that you are not alone or empty. You have Jesus as your substitute now, and you have future glory. Through the Word and sacrament you receive today, God removes the heaviness of life and gives you grace, hope, and healing. All rights reserved. Recorded: 6/13/2021 / Published: 2/11/2022- Welcome to Kuldrin's Krypt. I'm your host Master Kuldrin. If you are new to the show we use our combined 30 years of BDSM experience and my 20 years working in the psychology field to dispel myths, get rid of stereotypes, and answer your questions about BDSM. You can call in at 865-268-4005 to leave your question or visit the Krypt at https://kuldrinskrypt.com. - In this week's episode of The Krypt we are celebrating gay pride month by putting together an episode aimed at parents who want to send their children to conversion therapy. We are going to define it, get into what psychology thinks about it, go over some of the techniques used, tell you if it is still legal and where, and finally, report the unsurprising statics on its effectiveness, the number of self-harm cases caused by it, and whether it increases or decreases suicidal ideation in the gay population. - Rules to Love By: ( https://inclusionwoodworks.com )1: Safe, sane, consensual, and informed2: KNKI: Knowledge, No Intolerance, Kindness, Integrity3: “Submission is not about authority and it's not about obedience; it is all about relationships of love and respect.” -Wm. Paul Young- “Gay Pride Month: Conversion Therapy-S03E48” Sexual orientation: .What is Conversion therapy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversion_therapyConversion therapy is the pseudoscientific practice of trying to change an individual's sexual orientation from homosexual or bisexual to heterosexual using psychological, physical, or spiritual interventions. What does modern psychology have to say about it?There is no reliable evidence that sexual orientation can be changed, and medical institutions warn that conversion therapy practices are ineffective and potentially harmful. Medical, scientific, and government organizations in the United States and the United Kingdom have expressed concern over the validity, efficacy, and ethics of conversion therapy. Various jurisdictions around the world have passed laws against conversion therapy. The American Psychiatric Association (APA) opposes psychiatric treatment "based upon the assumption that homosexuality per se is a mental disorder or based upon the a priori assumption that a patient should change his/her sexual homosexual orientation" and describes attempts to change a person's sexual orientation by practitioners as unethical. The APA also states that the advancement of conversion therapy may cause social harm by disseminating unscientific views about sexual orientation. In 2001, United States Surgeon General David Satcher issued a report stating that "there is no valid scientific evidence that sexual orientation can be changed".What are some of the techniques that have been used?Techniques used in conversion therapy in the United States and Western Europe have included ice-pick lobotomies; chemical castration with hormonal treatment; aversive treatments, such as "the application of electric shock to the hands and/or genitals"; "nausea-inducing drugs ... administered simultaneously with the presentation of homoerotic stimuli"; and masturbatory reconditioning. More recent clinical techniques used in the United States have been limited to counseling, visualization, social skills training, psychoanalytic therapy, and spiritual interventions such as "prayer and group support and pressure", though there are some reports of aversive treatments through unlicensed practice as late as the early 2000s. The term reparative therapy has been used as a synonym for conversion therapy in general,[9] but it has been argued that, strictly speaking, it refers to a specific kind of therapy associated with the psychologists Elizabeth Moberly and Joseph Nicolosi. Is Conversion Therapy legal? The remainder reported either losing all sexual drive or attempting to remain celibate, with no change in attraction. Some of the participants who failed felt a sense of shame and had gone through conversion therapy programs for many years. Others who failed believed that therapy was worthwhile and valuable. Many respondents felt harmed by the attempt to change, and reported depression, suicidal ideation, and attempts, hypervigilance of gender-deviant mannerisms, social isolation, fear of being a child abuser and poor self-esteem. Of the 8 respondents (out of a sample of 202) who reported a change in sexual orientation, 7 worked as ex-gay counselors or group leaders.Statistics:8 times more likely to attempt suicide6 times more likely to experience high levels of depression3 times more likely to use illegal drugs3 times more likely to be at high risk for HIV, STD's, and STI'sImportant Links:Full show notes: https://kuldrinskrypt.com/348National Suicide Hotline: 1-800-273-8255https://KuldrinsKrypt.com/Patreon https://kuldrinskrypt.com/silentcommunication https://KuldrinsKrypt.com/survey https://kuldrinskrypt.com/TeePublic Show Producers:- Benefactor ($2,000/month): - Pro Producer ($100/month): Buffalo_Max92- Master Producer ($50/month): - Executive Producer ($25/month) ShadowyFox, JunicornsAngel, Johnny Ferrell, Haru Webb, Rei Webb, Just_Call_Me_Ash, Kiongakyu, and dboat, - Sr. Producers ($10/month): xEmeraldxWolfx, ThatPlace: Oklahoma City, RoxieBear, Trouble113, Alexandria, babylove&Sir, SortOutTheKinks, Master Gabriel, Daddy Steve, Sir Pent, KJ, TwistedTink&JustTommy, ArtKitten, AuthorMistressBlackrose, UpstateScCouple, Crystal Force, CJ, Cali, PerfectlyThick, Thorn, Odie & Ceci, Toredon, Cap'n J, BxB, Saviy, Lilred rose, AK-47, Knot_the_Daddy, and Charlie & little bit- Producers ($5/month): Kainsin, CIVLdisobedience, Hadea, Lily, Sir&Kitten, Raven, Raider69time, Atsila, MBRpoodle, LylacWine, Baddogbad, CozyCow, Arctic Foxglove, Anomalous Mats, MsRedSin & AJRJ, Katnipmeow, WyldThyme&Deacon Sean, CheeryQuery, Ropestuff2, Rabbit, BurningRedHot, Sir Wolf ArchAngel, Subx13, CourtsDom, Anthony, Gator, Gizmo, Ataleena, JJ, Jon Shaw, TheCheshyre, -miggs-, TripleDelicious, Ben, and TinkerBrat- Jr. Producers ($1/month): K-2SO, Jeremiah, Morgana13, Brodie, The Gabbing Girl Time Podcast, Lexa, and AshleyBecome a show producer: https://KuldrinsKrypt.com/PatreonVendors I know, like, trust, and use: (None of these are paid sponsors of the podcast.)- http://bdsmcontracts.org Coupon code: kuldrin20 for a 20% discount on all purchases.- http://whippingstripes.com - My personal maker of most things leather and paracord impact toys.- https://www.etsy.com/shop/TorridTimber - Fine fetish furniture and accessories- https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheCraftyHedonist - Tink's Toys Fb Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2350280868612699 Fetlife Profile: https://fetlife.com/users/9885653?sp=3 *coupon for listeners (first purchase only) TinksToys13- Dark Delights Shops: https://darkdelightsshop.com/ (Watch my product review of them: https://kuldrinskrypt.com/DarkDelightsShop)Contact info:Email: MasterKuldrin@gmail.comFetlife Group: https://fetlife.com/groups/159275Fb: Kuldrin Fire https://www.facebook.com/kuldrin.fireTwitter: @MasterKuldrin https://twitter.com/MasterKuldrinInstagram: masterkuldrin https://www.instagram.com/masterkuldrin/Patreon: kuldrinskrypt https://www.patreon.com/KuldrinsKrypthttp://kuldrinskrypt.com/contactresource

Learn a little bit about Okanogan Highlands Alliance and a lot about the grouse of the world, with special focus on the grouse species that inhabit Okanogan County, WA, with Dr. Michael Schroeder. Also, join Jack, the Nature Detective, as he explores the Okanogan Highlands in this story for kids of all ages: “Look! A chicken!” Jack squawks. His little sister laughs, claps her hands, and hollers, “Let's collect the eggs!” But Jack frowns, and says “Wait, hold on. It can't be a chicken, that doesn't make sense...” Jack and his family have just crossed a grassy field to get to the edge of a creek. They are looking for animal footprints in the new snow on an early winter day, and have just been startled by a heavy-bodied bird clattering away across the field. The bird didn't go far, and it really didn't fly very high. By Jack's estimation, it only flew “about three cars high.” “Where would a chicken come from? I don't see any houses. Chickens need houses, and roosts, and nest boxes.” Jack gasps and his eyes get big, “Mom! Are there wild chickens? Or is this someone's lost chicken? Or... is that not a chicken?” Jack thinks hard, “Time to collect clues. Nature Detective is on the case.” This bird is smaller than the chickens that he knows from his grandma's house. But the chickens he has seen fly three cars high, just like this bird. Jack thinks, “maybe it's a baby, and that's why it's small. But... why would a baby chicken wander off on its own?” Jack has recently conducted a study of his grandma's chickens and this is what Jack knows about chickens: They can be lots of different colors. They eat seeds and bugs. They lay eggs, unlike bats, that have live birds. Some chickens grow feathers right over their eyes so they can't see. The chicken facts that Jack knows sort of fit with the mystery bird, but it's just too weird to see a chicken out in the wild. The family follows in the direction that the bird went, trying not to scare it again. Jack stops and puts his binoculars to his eyes. He scans the branches of some trees along the creek. He scans the snow. He stops. “There it is!” Jack whispers. His mom, dad, and sister all put their binoculars to their eyes and aim the lenses where Jack is looking. There is a bird there, walking awkwardly right on top of the snow. “How does he do that?” Jack wonders. They can see that this is not a chicken. It is speckled, with bright yellow eyebrows, and it's tail is too pointy to be a chicken. It could be a relative of a chicken. Suddenly the bird disappears. “Where'd he go? That's not a chicken!” They decide to leave the bird alone, since winter is a hard time to be a wild bird. When Jack gets home his dad pulls up their favorite website - Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Jack likes this website because he can search for birds by shape and color! It doesn't take long for him to find a whole bunch of chicken-shaped birds with yellow eyebrows. He thinks his mystery bird was a grouse - but which one? Jack reviews his clues: a grassy habitat, smaller than a chicken, speckled, yellow eye brows, pointy tail, walking on top of the snow. “A sharptail grouse!” Jack hypothesizes. How can he know for sure? For more clues about whether Jack's guess might be correct, and to learn all about the different types of grouse that live in the Okanogan, Washington and the world, check out this podcast episode, Grouse of the Okanogan, with Dr. Michael Schroeder. Michael cries as he looks out over an area that was once home to one of the largest remaining pockets of sage-grouse in the state. But he says he’s not ready to retire yet — there’s more work to be done. We’re all looking for hope right now, but Ashley says what we really need is the courage to keep fighting, loving and dancing, as the sage-grouse have shown us. We may not be able to save this bird, but that doesn’t mean we can’t cherish it and do our small part — whatever that may be — to try to keep these birds around.
Join Ashley on a frigid trek through the snow in search of sage grouse with a scientist who has been studying the bird for decades. Michael Schroeder takes us on a journey through the frozen sagebrush and back in time to learn some scientific and cultural lore surrounding this bird. Will we find any birds today? Why are they in so much trouble? Should anyone care?

In the U.S., the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. 29 states have set a higher minimum wage than that, HOWEVER all by 6 states have a tipped minimum, or an amount that’s lower than minimum wage that you can pay your staff if they also receive tips. Rules vary on how little an employer can pay state by state, but in general, when we think of minimum wage, we think of lowly paying jobs, and for many, minimum wage isn’t enough to support themselves or their families or make their lives work without picking up more work or sacrificing basic needs. But what happens when we start to think about minimum wage differently? What if we could guarantee that people left work every day with MORE than what they need just to meet their basic human needs? And what sort of power structures would have to be reassessed, and flat out knocked down, for that to happen? In this episode, we talk to Michael Schroeder of Oddly Correct in Kansas City, who, on November 4th, 2019, announced an incredibly ambitious new pay structure for the business. On Instagram, they announced that all employees would make at least $18 an hour—if they made that in tips plus their base wage, that was great, but if their tips didn’t get them up to that hourly wage, they would subsidize it, and ensure that every employee took home a guaranteed amount of money everyday. And Michael says it's because they wanted to flip the idea of minimum wage on its head. It has a wild cast of amazing supporting characters like Divine, Tracey Walter, Geoffrey Lewis, Karen Witter, Lainie Kazan, Tab Hunter, Marcie Leeds, Bud Cort and Paul Bartel! CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes discussion of homophobia, anti-LGBTQ bigotry, sexual assault and suicide. Listener discretion is advised. The relationship between the American church and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people has all too often been rocky, and conflict is inflamed by opposition by churches and Christian political institutions to equal rights for LGBTQ Americans. Opposition to equal rights for LGBTQ Americans is based on the belief among many Christian traditions, denominations, and sects that homosexuality and transgender identity are morally wrong, based on how they interpret a handful of Bible verses. In Part I of a two-part series, Jaye focuses on the non-affirming position of many Christian institution as it relates to sexual orientation. She examines the "clobber" verses, making the argument that the non-affirming position is not conclusively supported by the Bible. What damage is being done to LGBTQ people, both inside and outside the church because of the non-affirming doctrine of many American churches? And - can you be Christian and affirming?
