In this week's episode: Two quick brief updates from previous episodes. A judge grants twitter an expedited 5 day trial against Elon Musk in October, and the abortion doctor in Indiana is taking steps to sue the AG of Indiana for defamatory statements. In our main story, Knoxville and surrounding areas experienced extreme weather, as well as the rest of the world as UN Secretary General says humanity is "facing a collective suicide over climate crisis". The House of Reps pass two bills attempting to codify them into law. The first being same sex, interracial, and inter-faith marriage, with 157 republicans voting against the bill. The second protecting the right to contraceptives, with all but 10 republicans voting against the measure. When there's a mass shooting in Indiana, the conversation shifts from 'thoughts and prayers' to solely praising a 'good guy with a gun' because it finally fits their narrative and going so far as to even praise their god for it. Lastly, another round of multiple ACAB of the week stories with some of the most egregious behavior because cops "feared for their lives". Become a Patron and support the show! Friends,Thanks for joining us as we put a spotlight on Good Samaritan, Elisjsha Dicken (aka Eli), who courageously took out a crazed shooter who was killing innocent people shopping at the Greenwood Park Mall in Greenwood, Indiana. In the process, we examine Hollywood's culpability for gun violence by their mindless (but calculating) use of pulp massacres in some of their biggest hits.Along the way, we look at the contrasting gun laws between California and Indiana, then address our concerns about MAiD, the Canadian “Medical Assistance in Dying” law that is expanding its power by including people diagnosed with “mental illness.” Might many among us qualify? New mask mandates in CA are front and center also, highlighted by some “conflicts of interest” between LA County's Public Health Director and her daughter working in the CA health sector as well.We return to our hero, Eli Dicken, and the fact that there are good guys who carry guns. Aren't we grateful. The survivors of the mall shooting certainly are. And, as always, we're…Grateful for You!Philip & D. Paul This is a public episode. A shooting rampage that took place at the Greenwood Park Mall around 6 p.m. Sunday was stopped by a "good guy with a gun". The very thing the left insist doesn't happen. A drug trial carried out in the US may hold new hope for treating cancer. Although conducted on a small number of patients, all of them were found to be entirely cancer free after a course of drug treatment. THE THESIS: God gave us life as the very first gift. The Second Amendment allows us to defend that first gift.  THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES:  When Cain murdered Abel, God obviosuly knew what had he Cain had done. Still, God asked Cain about it and Cain attempted deceive the Lord. By committing murder, Cain had stolen--not just from Abel--but, from God.  Genesis 4:8-10 8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let's go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don't know,” he replied. “Am I my brother's keeper?” 10 The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. Later, the Lord often stepped in to help King David both war against enemies of the Lord, but, also to defend Israel against attacks.  We must remember, though, that King David's faith was not in his might army--”chariots and horses”--but, in God. Likewise, we must remember that the Lord gifted David not just with those armies and “mighty men”, but in some other ways for which David was thankful. 4 Ways God Protected David (And Might Protect You) THE NEWS & COMMENT: The fallen Countries of Oregon, California and Washington are using taxpayer dollars and resources to help train kids how to hate the neighboring Country--America--and how to fight the police in their utterly fallen lands.  ANTIFA summer camp for 10-year-olds being held in Portland As Antifa marches and the cartels seize more territory and souls, the dictator of California, Gavn Newssome--fresh from a vacation in Montana despite banning official travel there--says he is unaware of what the so-called district attorney in Los Angeles is choosing to do: let criminals walk free,  After Focusing on Florida, CA Gov. Newsom Doesn't ‘Know Enough' About LA County DA's Poor Job Performance to Comment; More news from Hellscape Gascónistan. As the fallen states on our borders threaten to export their disorder, we need to remain in God first--have faith in Him, not “chariots and horses”--AND, we need to be thankful our founders recognized the gift of Life God granted us and out in writing our right to defend it.  There are terrible consequences when government lets criminals run free and threatens honest citizens into becoming soft targets. We see these effects in three mass shooting incidents with two very different endings Greenwood, Indiana:  WTHR.com: “The armed bystander, who shot and killed the Greenwood Park Mall mass shooter, was identified as Elsjsha Dicken. He did not have a permit for the gun, but was carrying legally under Indiana's new ‘Constitutional Carry' law.” A Cafe' in Texas: [AUDIO] -  Suzanna Hupp testifies before congress "the high cost of gun control" Uvalde:  Sheep and Lions at Uvalde - The Stream, Timothy Furnish On May 24, 2022, a very troubled teenager, Salvador Ramos, entered Robb Elementary School in that south-central Texas town and proceeded to kill 19 people (17 children, two teachers) and wound another 17 with an AR-15. For an hour and 14 minutes, Ramos remained at large — despite a literal army of law enforcement, totaling 376 personnel, in and around the school. The Uvalde city fathers tried to spin their (in)action as “heroic” early on. But the full video of the fiasco, and the official report released yesterday by the Texas Legislature, say otherwise . . .  Finally at 52:49/12:21, three more shots ring out. And the mass of armed men do … nothing. Just over an hour into the feed, at 12:30, we see a sheriff avail himself of the hand sanitizer dispenser on the wall. Although to be fair, he was not even armed. About the same time, the cop who had been shown on his cell phone says, “She's not responding.” Presumably this was the officer whose wife was a teacher in the school. At an hour and 9 minutes in/12:38, a NG soldier appears with a Barrett MRAD sniper rifle, the U.S. military's state-of-the-art weapon for taking out enemies at a distance. So why is he in the school hallway with it? FINALLY, one hour and 21 minutes into the video feed/12:50, we hear shouts and gunshots as several BORTAC personnel enter and kill Ramos. An hour and 18 minutes after he first opened fire, and an hour and 16 minutes after he entered Robb Elementary and began slaughtering people.  Still, The Party continues its lawlessness . . .  Just 2 years after calls to defund the police erupted in the wake of George Floyd's murder, Democrats in states like Ohio, Georgia and Florida are spotlighting law enforcement to boost their credibility on fighting crime. . . . and, it's not “just” in drugs and crime, it's at our border and in our elections.  Over 207,000 Migrant Encounters at Southern Border in June, 2022 Slated to Dwarf 2021 Numbers Democrat D.C. “Mayor” Muriel Bowser wants the Biden administration to “work across state lines to prevent” buses with illegal immigrants from coming to D.C. [AUDIO] - Homeless shelters in Washington D.C. are filling up with asylum seekers from Texas and Arizona. “Mayor” Bowser says “I fear that they're being tricked into nationwide bus trips when their final destinations are places all over the United States of America.” [AUDIO] -  Trump: “We have statistics 80% of the women coming across illegally are raped Don Lemon: That's about women BEING raped Trump: Well, somebody's doing the raping, Don! [AUDIO] - DeSantis: We have taken action to protect the integrity of our elections by making ballot harvesting a felony, strengthening voter ID, eliminating drop boxes, and banning Zuckerbucks. Emails Loved both of your shows today, as always. What can “ we” do to change things? 3rd party? At least something like the tea party. The tea party pressure at least temporarily moved the republicans to the right. We all know 100 percent of the democrats are members of the party and 98 percent of republicans are. How do we stop it? I love Donald trump but he endorsed Dr Oz and Kevin McCarthy!! What is he thinking? You are right the “ professional “ republicans are completely feckless and pathetic. This goes for locally and nationally. I guess this is just a rant coupled with appreciation for you. Maybe I should just relax and “ trust the plan” as X22 says , lol. Jonathan Sapirman of Greenwood apparently was facing eviction before he opened fire at the Greenwood Park Mall shortly before it closed Sunday evening, the city's police chief, James Ison, said at a news conference. Sapirman continued shooting people until he was shot and killed by 22-year-old Elisjsha Dicken, of Seymour, a city about 45 miles south of Greenwood, who was shopping with his girlfriend, Ison said, calling Dicken's quick action "nothing short of heroic." (Click Here for Full Article)   From www.ksl.com/article: The Rev. Steven Marsh never thought he would see the day his church in Laguna Woods, California — a town of 16,500 populated largely by retirees — would be spending $20,000 a month for security. Then a gunman opened fire on May 15 during a luncheon at Geneva Presbyterian Church, where Marsh is senior pastor, killing one and injuring five other members of a Taiwanese congregation that met there. Officials said the man, who was motivated by political hatred against Taiwan, chained the church's doors shut and hid firebombs inside before shooting at the gathering of elderly church members. Houses of worship are meant to be places of shelter, reflection and peace, where strangers are welcome. But the recent string of high-profile mass shootings in the U.S. is a reminder violence can happen anywhere, prompting some faith leaders to ramp up security. (Click Here for Full Article)

On Tuesday, Philadelphia experienced its 300th homicide of 2022—the victim was 18-year-old Lameer Boyd who was killed in West Philadelphia. Police say they recovered more than fifty rounds at the scene of the shooting. During a press conference on Tuesday, Mayor Jim Kenney told reporters that he does not, and has never, met with the families of Philadelphia shooting victims. Later in the day, his office clarified his comments—claiming that he misspoke. Dan Abrams—Chief Legal Analyst for ABC News—joins Dawn to talk about his brand-new television series on REELZ, “On Patrol: Live,” which premieres on Friday, July 22nd at 9pm ET. Abrams also discusses the lack of respect shown for police officers in our media and in our communities which has resulted in a disturbing inability to recruit new officers. New details have emerged regarding Elisjsha Dickens' quick response to a would-be mass shooting at Greenwood Park Mall in Indiana. According to reports, Elisjsha was shopping with his girlfriend when a shooter began firing into a crowd of people. Police believe Elisjsha, who has no military background and is a legal gun owner, was able to stop the shooter within 15 seconds of the attack beginning. Elisjsha is being hailed as a hero. According to 6ABC, a 19-year-old St. Joseph's University student was tied up and robbed at gun point at his off-campus home. Philadelphia Police have vowed to increase their presence in the area surrounding the school's campus. While speaking with Laura Ingraham, Dr. Mehmet Oz addressed John Fetterman's impressive three-month campaign fundraising totals—which set a Pennsylvania record.

Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show: Gun violence continues to be prevalent in Philadelphia. Over the weekend, in North Philadelphia, a quadruple shooting left four people hospitalized. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, city services currently have 1 in 7 jobs sitting vacant. Alarmingly, this includes 1 in 5 positions at the Fire Department unfilled and a Police Department that has nearly 400 vacancies. Vice President Kamala Harris visited Philadelphia over the weekend and implored Americans to keep fighting for access to legal abortion. On Monday, Harris will be the keynote speaker at the NAACP convention in Atlantic City. The University of Pennsylvania has nominated Lia Thomas for the NCAA's “Woman of the Year” award. Thomas, a biological male who identifies as female, won the women's 500-yard freestyle race at the 2022 NCAA Division I National Championships—the first transgender athlete to ever do so. Three people were killed when a gunman opened fire at the Greenwood Park Mall in Indiana. Police say the gunman was stopped by a legally armed civilian. Will Pennsylvania become the 20th state to adopt “red flag laws”? The law, if enacted, would permit judges to confiscate guns from citizens they believe could be dangerous to themselves or to society. The Texas House of Representatives released the results of its investigation into the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The report concludes that the police response to the shooting was plagued by “systemic failures and egregious poor decision making.”

Maryland voters are choosing candidates in a primary for a big election year in the state. Both Republicans and Democrats have competitive primaries for governor in Maryland this year. The House is set to vote to protect same-sex and interracial marriages. Tuesday's vote stands as a direct confrontation with the Supreme Court, whose conservative majority in overturning Roe v. Wade abortion access signaled that other rights may be in jeopardy. Partisan battle lines have formed over a shrunken economic package that President Joe Biden wants Congress to complete within weeks. Biden conceded last week he would settle for a far narrower economic plan than he's wanted. Biden had hoped the measure would also address climate change, but Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia has blocked that. Britain shattered its record for highest temperature ever registered amid a heat wave that has seized swaths of Europe. The national weather forecaster predicted it would get hotter still Tuesday in a country ill prepared for such extremes. The typically temperate nation was just the latest to be walloped by unusually hot, dry weather that has gripped the continent since last week, triggering wildfires from Portugal to the Balkans and leading to hundreds of heat-related deaths. U.S. federal prosecutors have charged a Saudi man with lying to federal officials about using a fake Instagram account to harass Saudi critics — mostly women — living in the U.S. and Canada. That's according to a complaint unsealed last month in federal court in Brooklyn. Federal prosecutors have declined to bring charges against nine people associated with CBS' “Late Show with Stephen Colbert" who were arrested in a U.S. Capitol complex building last month. The nine people were arrested on misdemeanor charges June 16 in the Longworth House Office Building. Among the nine was the voice behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, comedian and writer Robert Smigel. In sports, there's a new winner at the Home Run Derby, while on the eve of its All-Star Game, Major League Baseball looks to its future and considers some rules change. A damning report and hours of body camera footage laid bare the chaotic response to a mass shooting at a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school. Hundreds of law enforcement officers massed at the scene but then waited to confront the gunman even after a child trapped with the shooter called 911. The findings of an investigative committee were released Sunday. The penalty trial of Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz is about to begin. Opening statements will be made and the first witnesses called Monday. Jurors will decide whether the 23-year-old Cruz will be executed or sentenced to life without parole for the 2018 massacre of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Police say three people were fatally shot and two were injured at an Indiana mall after a man with a rifle opened fire in a food court and an armed civilian shot and killed him. Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison says the man entered the Greenwood Park Mall on Sunday evening with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition and began firing in the food court. He says a legally armed 22-year-old from nearby Bartholomew County killed the man. Jury selection is scheduled to begin in the trial of former Trump presidential adviser Steve Bannon. Bannon faces criminal contempt of Congress charges after refusing for months to cooperate with the House committee investigating the U.S. Capitol insurrection. This is one of "those" shows.  One where, seeing as how this podcast just (finally) turned 50, I decide not to go all out with a big fanfare, retrospective, or party, but one where I just pop out to my favorite watering hole, grab a couple of beers, and sit down and shoot the proverbial breeze with one of my best friends about old times, music in general, and stuff he's got going on in the near future.  Therefore, by way of warning, if you thought the or interviews were a bit rambling, unorganized, and needlessly personal, then you'll love this one -- it's in that same vein. Hey, I'm old ... indulge me.   Tim Spainhower is one of "those" guys.  In the heyday of the music industry, say 30 years ago when there really were rock stars, I firmly believe Tim's prolificacy alone would have gotten him that mansion and swimming pool just up the street from Mellencamp's and Springsteen's.  Sadly, it doesn't happen like that anymore, though what I think we have now is a lot better -- and certainly more honest.  As you learn in the interview, Tim is a songwriting machine who writes rockers, ballads, and pop tunes the way most people write their names and addresses, it's just that natural for him.  His fertile songwriting (he's currently working on five separate albums -- all different) is bottle-necked only by his relative newness as a producer (he's currently working on five albums -- all different), but once he learns how all that fancy new recording equipment he's got operates, then I fully expect a torrent of releases to continually be streaming out of Strange Studios.  One has to believe that, as the spaghetti test goes, at least one of those will stick to the wall and get noticed by someone. In my humble opinion, and even though his myriad rough demos and unmastered final recordings are good, Tim is best experienced in a live setting -- be it in the front of a cover band or sitting alone with an acoustic guitar doing his own material.  Having been up there playing with him in more than one band, I can firmly state that this guy just belongs on stage, and as my buddy Johnny Lyles puts it, "There just something wrong about seeing Tim Spainhower without a guitar in his hand." One thing I will say for the Indianapolis music scene, there certainly is a lot of it.  When I first looked into doing this podcast, I had done a little research and concluded that there were around 3700 bands in the Indianapolis area (both original and cover).  As I approach the release of Episode #50 (and prepare to schedule recording for Episode #75), I'm starting to realize that this was only scratching the surface.  Not only had I woefully neglected to include surrounding towns (Greenwood, Bloomington, Lafayette, Muncie) into my calculations, but I had also assumed that in 2005 every band had made their way onto the Internet where I could find them, which was most-certainly not the case.  My informal, unscientific research now leads me to believe that the number of individual musical acts (solo and band) is almost double my original estimate. This leads to some interesting, though completely pointless, statistical axioms.  It is said that one .  The average band has four people.  There may be as many as 7000 bands in the area.  .  So, obviously there is room to expand the number of bands in the metro area, as there are still 493,000 potential drummers out there.  I don't know about you, but I'm buying stock in Zildjian next week. By , I've sampled about a quarter of the bands in the area, averaging maybe three per week (more on some weeks as the monthly Battle of the Bands that I judge usually affords me eight new acts in one night alone).  In addition there are the myriad submissions, recommendations, and stuff I find while aimlessly searching around the various music sites around the web.  Therefore, it should be no surprise that I glossed over Branch Gordon twice in the past two years before finally seeing the light after catching him in person at an open mic night.  The first was a personal recommendation from a mutual friend of ours after his first EP, Under the Fluorescent Lights, was released.  I listened to it, thought it was pretty good stuff, then filed it away in that folder where I keep all kinds of things I intend to one day revisit, but never get around to.  The second was from local music promoter, Kolo Bell, who made me write Branch's name down and promise to check his stuff out the next time I sat down to a computer.  That sat in a memo stored on my cell phone for several months, along with a few other to-do items like a grocery list from 2006 and some passwords to various clients' networks I used to maintain three jobs ago. The point of that story, and indeed of this podcast, is to ensure that you, dear listener, do not make the same mistakes I did.  Branch is a wonderful, exciting contributor to our local music scene, and with the release of his first complete EP -- and a full CD in the works -- hopefully moving on to even bigger things in the future. Links referenced in the show:              Branch Gordon can be found here: | | | | | .   His new self-titled EP is available at , , , and (since the show was recorded) .  On the EP, recorded at the in Nashville, TN, he is joined by an impressive list of session musicians. - Electric Guitar  David Flint - Acoustic Guitar (Rascal Flatts) - Piano/ B3/ Keyboards (Brooks and Dunn) - Bass  (Vince Gill) - Drums/ Percussion   - Producer  - Engineer  Special thanks to for the hospitality, and the free beer (Yes -- for those of you who have received a copy of the "Indy In-Tune Venue Marketing Services" proposal -- this is what we call a "shout out," not that I wouldn't endorse them anyway.)   Branch Plays with his father, Lance, in the cover band . It's the little things in life that make it all worth while, and in many ways, this show is a perfect example.  First off, there's the music -- a great set of songs from local singer/songwriter Jeremiah Cosner (now front man of the Concrete Sailors).  This is brilliant stuff that is both catchy and lyrically significant.  It's not too heavy; not too light; just a great soundtrack for good times.  Next, there was our continuing experimentation with guest hosts.  This week we gave the fifth mike to my buddy, Pres Maxson, whom we first met a few weeks ago  on .  I had a hunch when I met him that night that his sense of humor and creativity would be a great addition to the show, and I wasn't at all disappointed with his first outing as co-host.  We'll definitely try to have him back on a few more times.  Next, there was the beer.  How can one go wrong with 50-cent Busch Light, the sweet milk of my motherland in St. Louis?  In fact, being somewhat ambitious, Pres purchased us a $5 tray of ten, a few of which we ended up handing out to random ladies in the audience. Which brings me to the final item in that list of "little things that make life grand:"  It may or may not have had anything to do with the free beers we were dispensing, but at one point during Jeremiah Cosner and the Concrete Sailor's first set, I definitely got my butt slapped by a passing female.  Now grated she didn't actually see my face, nor did I see hers (she was walking away at the time), and even though I am a happily married man, and even though she may (for all I know) have been a serial butt-slapper who does that kind of thing all the time, I just wanted to say thanks for the vote of confidence and the temporary ego boost. It's probably a cliche, but these are difficult times we live in between work, money problems brought on by work, family problem brought on by work, a frantic pace with no time for individuality or creativity brought on by work, and the ever-present wars/famine/disease (which I haven't found a way to blame on my day job, but give me time).  For those of you who take solace in music, can I give my wholehearted recommendation to Active Live Infection as an excellent way to relieve the stress and anguish of an unappreciative, go-nowhere day job?   Or is it just me that needs this kind of thing? As I stated in the interview, what drew me to these guys was that they seem to be the most unlikely group of people (two PhD biochemists, a PhD/MBA computer geek, and a young, virtuoso guitarist) ever to form a death metal band together.  Honestly, I wasn't quite sure what I was getting myself into when I drove out to the woods in the middle of small town Indiana to interview them -- vivisected corpses? ... animal sacrifice? ... mad scientists? ... genetic experiments gone haywire? -- I just knew there had to be story in there somewhere, and I wasn't disappointed.  In fact, they weren't terribly different from any of the other band's I've met over the years -- eager, energetic, ready to play, and extremely witty.  Just with better day jobs. The music speaks for itself:  Ozzy's thundering bass, Roadkill Will's lightning fast guitar licks, the thunder and lightning blast of Chris D.'s drum kit, and the guttural growl of Wild Bill's vocals (which truly need no microphone to cut over the other instruments).  This is serious stuff, folks, but a fun, tension-relieving release at the same time.
