Et s'il contient énormément de caractéristiques très identifiables, l'une majeure est la façon de chanter propre à une certaine frange de ce courant musical. Et comment faut-il faire ? Ultime numéro de la saison et à cette occasion on s'offre du bonus ! Prise d'antenne dès 19h00 en direct avec le Kid dans STACK dont la programmation incluait deux titres proposé par votre serviteur :  MONNAIE DE SINGE pour un dernier hommage avant de refermer cette saison, à Anne Gaëlle RUMIN, la voix du groupe depuis une dizaine d'années et qui nous a quitté en février dernier à seulement 44 ans. Vous pouvez également vous replonger dans l'émission spéciale d'Amarok du19 mars 2026 qui lui était en partie consacrée. J'ai donc proposé au Kid une version alternative "électro" d'un extrait de ce superbe album que reste "The Story Of Rose Ola Seks"... PHILIPPE KALFON et un extrait de son 3ème album studio (solo) "My Connection" qui vient de paraître. Si cet album n'est pas en soi un disque de rock progressif, rappelons que Philippe est le guitariste du Sloane Square Band déjà entendu dans cette émission et qu'il a soutenu le groupe Tai Phong. Mais il traverse les genre à travers une soixantaine d'albums, c'est peu dire qu'il est très demandé et pour cause ! Le Kid m'a semblé ravi de diffuser cette proposition guitaristique de premier choix pour Stack !    Dans AMAROK, le Kid me proposait un certain CLIVE NOLAN et là nos esprits se rencontrent !! Certes cela aura fait une troisième diffusion dans cette émission de l'album "The Mortal Light" sorti en début d'année, mais quand le claviériste de Pendragon et Arena (entre autres) passe deux ans à construire un superbe double album concept de deux heures et demi et que le résultat est aussi monumental, on ne peut qu'en redemander !    Et puis autre figure de groupe légendaire également claviériste : TONY BANKS, membre fondateur de Genesis pour un extrait de son album "The Fugitive" de 1983, l'une des rares occasions d'entendre Tony chanter lui-même !  Pour le reste de l'émission, c'est AMARTIA qui a ouvert le bal avec un mystérieux single "My Inner Circle". Mystère quant à la récente sortie de ce titre sur la plateformes alors que le dernier album du groupe lillois remonte à 2021 et toujours avec Amandine Duwooz au micro depuis maintenant presque une décennie. Je n'ai pas plus d'infos mais croisons les doigts pour la sortie un album durant la prochaine saison car ce single à un petit goût de trop peu !    Autre formation hexagonale mais cette fois originaire du Mans :  HAMASAARI. Un 2ème album "Pictures" vient d'être publié par ce groupe qui commence sérieusement à faire parler de lui !  Outre le programmation au Hellfest cette année, notamment cet été en Angleterre nos amis partageront l'affiche avec des pointures du genre à l'occasion d'un festival hommage au regretté Neil Peart (Rush).  Ils devaient se produire demain à la soirée PROG NIGHT aux côtés des nantais Unsquare et des tourangeaux  Elements (groupes diffusés ces deux dernières semaines dans cette émission) mais ATTNTION cette soirée est reportée au 17 septembre à la verrière de la salle de La Carrière (St Herblain).  Il y a un an le single "The Frame" d'ESTHESIS était diffusé ici, préalablement à la sortie de l'album "Out Of Step" à la rentrée 2025 et qui nous a depuis accompagné tout au long de la saison. Vous l'aurez compris, j'aime assez ! En réalité, chaque album est une merveille et celui-ci est plus souvent sur ma platine que dans sa pochette !! Après le remix de "The Frame" par l'ami Vincent Blanot, alias Berlin Heart, il y a quelques semaines, voici un bel et long extrait de l'album dans ce numéro pour finir de vous convaincre, s'il en était encore besoin, de la qualité de son auteur Aurélien Goude et de ses talentueux camarades ! Cerise sur la gâteau, outre les différents concerts prévus, le groupe toulousain sera à l' ALHAMBRA de Paris le 25 septembre en 1ère partie de IQ !! Cette saison aura été riche en actualités pour les légendaires YES en terme de diverses rééditions d'albums et de concerts. A ce propos le groupe qui devait se produire à l'Olympia le mois dernier a reporté sa tournée européenne de "Fragile Tour" suite à un problème de santé de Steve Howe. Cela ne semble donc pas remettre en cause le projet puisque le vénérable groupe devrait fouler la scène mythique parisienne en mai 2027. Du haut de ses 79 balais, le guitariste membre le plus ancien de la formation (plus aucun fondateur n'est présent), n'a pas encore les doigts perclus d'arthrose, pour preuve la qualité de son jeu sur le tout nouvel album du groupe "Aurora" ! On le sait, YES a eu plusieurs vies et il serait vain de comparer "Aurora" à "Fragile" par exemple (que la formation rejouera donc intégralement dans sa tournée européenne). Mais à mon humble avis, cet album est le meilleur opus du groupe depuis l'arrivée de Jon Davison au micro avec le controversé "Heaven & Earth" en 2014. Après "The Quest" en 2021 puis "Mirror To The Sky" qui semblait mieux accueilli par les fans en 2023, "Aurora" remet en avant les claviers de Geoff Downes dans la production et montre que Steve Howe n'est pas encore rouillé ! Les compositions exigeantes côtoient des titres plus directs et accessibles mais de toute façon c'est une galette à découvrir en immersion après plusieurs écoutes, autant vous dire qu'elle va contribuer à occuper mon été ! Extrait dans ce numéro. Programmation décidemment bien "frenchie" pour ce dernier numéro avec POLYCHROME et un nouvel extrait de leur second album "Someday". Les frères SENIZERGUES, biberonnés au jazz, au rock et influencé par leurs aînés de la scène progressive des 70's nous offrent une bulle d'air bienvenue dans le paysage musical français et qui mériterait bien d'être plus largement diffusés ! Modestement, j'ai toujours grand plaisir à le faire ici, bravo !  l'album "The Sensual World" de KATE BUSH fait partie des ces difficiles suites, faut dire qu'elle avait placé la barre assez haut avec son précédent "Hounds Of Love" ! Pourtant cet album mérite toute notre attention, l'artiste iconoclaste anglaise n'ayant pas eu peur de rebattre les cartes en 1989. Plein de belles collaborations sur cet album, citons notre breton Alan Stivell !  Un extrait dans ce numéro, sans le breton, mais avec le fameux Trio Bulgaka qui avait connu son heure de gloire en 1987 avec "Balkana - The Music Of Bulgaria", l'un des fers de lance de la world music produit par un certain Joe Boyd, ancien patron du club underground l'UFO dans les 60's et producteur notamment du 1er single d'un petit groupe émergeant nommé Pink Floyd ("Arnold Layne" en 1967). Ecarté par EMI pour le premier album de la bande à Syd Barrett, quelle transition 20 ans plus tard avec ces voix bulgares ! Autre invité sur le titre de cette émission, le légendaire guitariste de Pink Floyd (qui n'était alors plus émergeant depuis longtemps ! ), David Gilmour, toujours fidèle à son ancienne petite protégée depuis qu'il découvrait son talent quelques années plus tôt. Enfin, Cunégonde dont je vous parle depuis le début de la saison à travers les différents extraits de l'album de ANGE qui lui donne son nom vous était enfin présentée à l'issue de cet ultime numéro… Un chant assuré par Christian Décamps qui aura donc le dernier mot sur cet excellent nouvel opus du groupe (et dans cette émission!), malgré le passage de flambeau à son fils Tristan devenu le chanteur principale de cette honorable institution ! (le groupe, pas l'émission ! )     Comme le chantait un certain Jean-Louis, "voilà c'est fini" … Merci à SUN pour sa confiance renouvelée, merci au Kid pour le passage de relais ( presque!) chaque jeudi, aux artistes et leurs émissaires parfois à l'étranger qui font connaitre cette émission rare dans le monde hertzien pour le rock progressif, aux attaché.es de presse qui me font découvrir de belles pépites (et me remontent de fait le moral sur l'avenir du genre ! ) et notamment Anne-Claire de BAD DOG PROMOTIONS qui fait un travail formidable pour le rock progressif (durant cette saison je crois qu'il y a eu moins de numéros que de doigts sur une main sans au minimum un.e artiste de cette formidable agence !).  Enfin merci à vous qui écoutez AMAROK pour certain.es depuis pas mal d'années (ça commence à piquer!). Evidemment s'il n'y à personne de l'autre côté du poste (comme on disait quand j'étais jeune !!) il n'y a aucun intérêt. Mais à défaut de faire une émission "mainstream" cherchant à faire de l'audience à tout prix, ce qui m'anime encore dans ce média unique c'est de promouvoir cette musique auprès de vous qui en connaissez d'ailleurs souvent plus que moi comme j'ai pu le constater lors de différents évènements extérieurs cette année encore. L'album du week-end dans #LeDriveRTL2 : Retour sur "Paranoid" de Black Sabbath Dans cette édition de « L'album du week-end », alors que le festival Hellfest bat son plein, Margaux Lassalle met à l'honneur un monument de la musique : le deuxième album de Black Sabbath, "Paranoid". L'occasion de rendre hommage au leader emblématique du groupe, Ozzy Osbourne (auquel le festival consacre d'ailleurs une immense statue), et de se replonger dans ce disque historique sorti le 18 septembre 1970, une date également assombrie par la disparition de Jimi Hendrix. En seulement huit titres, le quatuor de Birmingham a posé les fondations du heavy metal. La chronique retrace l'impact de cette œuvre majeure, de la fresque d'ouverture de près de huit minutes "War Pigs" au légendaire riff de guitare de Tony Iommi sur l'énergique "Iron Man". Le segment souligne également la polyvalence du groupe, capable de nuances plus douces et hypnotiques à l'image du titre "Planet Caravan". Profondément ancré dans le climat de la Guerre froide, le disque explore des thématiques lourdes et sombres. Il imagine l'apocalypse nucléaire avec "Electric Funeral" et évoque les traumatismes et addictions des vétérans du Vietnam sur "Hand of Doom", soutenu par la basse lourde de Geezer Butler.
