This week, Da7e and Neil tackle the intensity of yellow smoke and Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise as Welcome to Derry delivers its penultimate season one episode. In The Calm [04:52], they attempt to unravel rules of the entity's dragonglass pillar cage, highlight the show's exploration of 1960s American politics, and go deep on the quality of digital smoke and carefully stitched oners. Then in The Storm [01:06:56], your faithful hosts break down the trailer for the season finale and make some bold predictions, including some wild swings that involve flash-forwards and unexpected cameos. Next week, the Derry era comes to a close with the season one finale, "Winter Fire." Roxy Striar, Tara Erickson, & Andrew Gordon react to IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 7 — “The Black Spot,” the penultimate chapter of HBO's Stephen King prequel series. Set in 1962 Derry, Maine and developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, the show has been steadily peeling back the town's poisoned history and Pennywise's 30-year cycle of fear. Episode 7 airs Sunday, December 7, 2025 on HBO and Max, and multiple official previews say it's extra-long (feature-length) and pivotal, treating the Black Spot tragedy as a major turning point for the season's mythology. As teased at the end of Episode 6, “The Black Spot” centers on the looming attack against the Black-owned club — an event long referenced in Stephen King's IT lore — and shows how human hatred and Pennywise's influence feed into one another. Previews suggest the night erupts into chaos, pulling the Hanlons, Hallorann, and the kids into a desperate attempt to survive and uncover what's really driving Derry toward violence, while the town's buried history threatens to ignite into something supernatural and catastrophic. Reposted from Wax Episodic, which you can find at: https://podcastica.com/podcast/wax-episodic — It's a Vegas fantasy, baby! Super fun episode this week, with some juicy new details revealed by the individual formerly known as John Cena. And Karen and I are stoked to be joined by Chris and Jason from the Talking Dead podcast to talk it out. Because this show brings up so very many questions, and what two better guys to ponder them with than those guys? Other Wax Episodic shows: Consider trying one of these other intelligent, engaging, oftentimes delightfully twisted shows that we cover on this very podcast: IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO): A fun, scary, and surprisingly great prequel to the 2016 and 2019 IT movies, Pennywise stalks the children of 1962 Derry. A mix of heart, mystery, charm, and some shockingly disturbing Nightmare on Elme Street-esque horror. Cohosted by Shawn of Strange Indeed. Fallout (Amazon): A crazy retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic melange of wholesomeness and depravity. One of the best looking shows on TV, funny as hell, violent AF (but in a cartoony way), and with a great cast, including Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets) and Walton Goggins (The White Lotus, The Righteous Gemstones). Not to be missed! Hosted by Jason, Kara, and Kasi. Alien: Earth (FX): From the brilliant Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), this one really scratches that sci-fi itch. A greedy corporate tech overlord transfers the consciousness of a group of terminally ill children into highly performant synth bodies. And the Xenomorph is in it, too. Also, Tim Olyphant! On a rainy day a boy in a yellow slicker sailed a paper boat down a stream along a flooded street. Little Georgie was dismayed when he saw the paper boat sail into a sewer. When he had all but given up on retrieving the boat Georgie heard the voice of a curious character in the sewer, it was Pennywise the Dancing Clown. While Georgie was first caught off guard by seeing a figure in the sewer, he couldn't help himself from taking a closer look...And thus, Stephen King gifted coulrophobia to generations of kids.Sister G, Kristina with a K and John dig into one of the seminal horror stories of the '80's. It was meant to be Stephen King's final statement on the horror genre. What's a better way to bid farewell to spooky stuff than bringing all of the monsters into the fold? You have The Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, The Werewolf, but the best part is it is all It - a creature from outside our dimension which feeds on our fear and feasts on our flesh. We know you've been watching the new show on HBO, so why not dig more into the novel with the Cold Ones gang? So, crack that cold one, and take a trip with us to Derry, if you dare.

Jason Fuchs is the writer, co-creator, executive producer, and co-showrunner of HBO Max's IT: WELCOME TO DERRY. The series serves as a prequel to the successful IT films and explores the origins of the infamous killer clown Pennywise. Set in 1962, it follows a family that arrives in Derry, Maine, just as children begin to disappear. Jason made his feature writing debut with the box office hit ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT, which at the time of its release was the highest-grossing animated film internationally and made Jason the youngest screenwriter to have a film gross over $250M. He then went on to co-write Warner Brothers' acclaimed 2017 film WONDER WOMAN starring Gal Gadot. He also wrote New Line's IT: CHAPTER 2. In this interview, we talk about his adaptation work and how he approaches each project, his involvement with the IT universe, collaborating with Stephen King, long-form storytelling in TV, balancing fan expectation and originality, and much more. HUGE REVEALS THIS WEEK!! IT: Welcome to Derry Full Episode Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Roxy Striar, Tara Erickson, & Andrew Gordon dive into Episode 6 of IT: Welcome to Derry, the supernatural horror prequel set in 1962 Derry, Maine and developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. After Episode 5's long-awaited Pennywise reveal, the back half of the season shifts into higher gear — escalating the town's paranoia, government interference, and the kids' desperate fight to understand what's living beneath Derry. Episode 6, “In the Name of the Father,” is officially confirmed as the next installment and continues the fallout from the Neibolt Street events. Public previews indicate a heavier focus on Dick Hallorann as he's forced to rely on his psychic “Shine” in the face of mounting evil, while the approaching tragedy of The Black Spot looms larger over Derry's future. Episode 6 leans into deeper IT-mythology — including hints toward Pennywise's unsettling human identity “Bob Gray” and new visions that blur the line between memory, fear, and manipulation. Key cast members driving the episode include: Bill Skarsgård (Barbarian, Hemlock Grove) as Pennywise / It, now emerging more openly as the town spirals; Jovan Adepo (Babylon, Creed II) as Leroy Hanlon; Taylour Paige (Zola, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom) as Charlotte Hanlon; Chris Chalk (Perry Mason, Gotham) as Dick Hallorann, whose connection to the Shine ties directly into Derry's evil, & More. With Pennywise's influence spreading, Derry's institutions fracturing, & the kids pushing closer to the truth at huge personal cost, Episode 6 promises more lore, bigger scares, and a nasty ramp-up toward the season's final catastrophe. Un nuevo episodio de la serie IT: Welcome to Derry, nos acerca más al temible payaso Pennywise y su reino de terror en el pueblo de Derry.
The boys are back in town and back together.
Welcome to Derry Episode 5 finally gives us what everyone's been begging for: Pennywise. In the sewer. In full nightmare mode. In this Thumb War recap, we break down everything from the genuinely awesome parts — Bill Skarsgård's terrifying Pennywise reveal, the triple-decker teeth, the contortions, the hallucinatory sewer sequences — to the parts that made us feel like we were taking crazy pills. Including: • The indigenous prophecy lore dump that explains why everyone in Derry acts insane • “There's something in the water — clown shit” (not our words, the episode's) • The soldiers making the absolute worst tactical decisions in TV history • A major character death that makes ZERO spatial sense • Whether Matty's emo sewer glow-up actually worked • Our ongoing fight with the YouTube algorithm thanks to… certain phrases • Why the acting and production design continue to be the saving grace of this series This is a spoiler-filled, chaotic, honest recap of Episode 5 — the good, the bad, and the “why is everyone in this show so dumb?” Full transcript moments include Pennywise illusions, failed plans, secret shards, hallucinations, and multiple “are you serious?” plot beats. A mix of heart, mystery, charm, and some shockingly disturbing Nightmare on Elme Street-esque horror. Cohosted by Shawn of Strange Indeed. This week on All Pop, No Culture, we dig into a wide spread of movies, musicals, podcasts, and horror TV—basically everything lighting up your feed (or should be). Kevin kicks things off with a review of One Battle After Another, a character-driven drama with sharp performances and a slow-burn emotional core. Andrew throws in director deep cuts, trivia, and a few wild personal stories to round out the discussion. We shift gears into true-crime meets Hollywood with a breakdown of Allison Mack's vulnerable, complicated interview on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast. The group looks at her time in the Nxivm cult, her prison experience, the contradictions in her public story, and the surprising relationship she formed after her release. Lauren brings the energy back up with her trip to see the Broadway musical Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York—a quirky, heartfelt rom-com on stage that sparks a full-scale debate on why musical adaptations either soar (Wicked, Hamilton) or crash spectacularly (Cats, West Side Story). Kevin then reviews the indie horror film Shelby Oaks, breaking down what works (atmosphere) and what really doesn't (genre chaos, FX overload). The crew compares it to classics like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity while debating whether it's worth a rental or a “wait until streaming” kind of watch. We wrap with a deep dive into HBO's IT: Welcome to Derry, exploring its historical layers, lore, Pennywise reveals, character arcs, and how it all ties back to Stephen King's universe. With Stranger Things Season 5 on the horizon, the hype is already building for next week's episode. After watching the series (so far), I'd like to say that I'm thoroughly enjoying it, and I am highly impressed with the acting. This fully embraces the fantastical scenes and effects for those horror and monster moments. However, one character really stands out, and that is Lilly Bainbridge – portrayed by the talented Clara Stack and her performance has been nothing short of paramount. If I said it was an honor and pleasure speaking with Clara, that would be an understatement. To sit down and get to know Clara and what it was like to play an exceptionally well-rounded character, these are the moments that are priceless.Getting to know Clara's character, Lilly, who we all see rides an emotional roller coaster throughout the season, tells us that there is more than what we expected. I am certain, if there is going to be a Season 2, that Lilly will be one of the few that gets to kick Pennywise's butt. However, with this being the prequel to the “It” movies, who knows what will happen during the inception. It: Welcome to Derry is still streaming on HBO Max (I realize that I said Netflix during the interview) and I am wrong, clearly, I got the streaming services mixed up. I highly recommend watching the series. It 100% grabs the essence of the era of the beginning.

Kevin Schaeffer and Andy Walsh dive into the latest happenings in pop culture with their signature blend of geekiness and faith in this "What's News" episode. They kick things off by exploring some exciting new shows and films, including Vince Gilligan's latest sci-fi venture, which offers a unique take on humanity's struggles in a post-apocalyptic landscape. The duo also chats about the fresh adaptation of Frankenstein by Guillermo Del Toro, a film that adds emotional depth to the classic tale, proving once again that Del Toro knows how to humanize even the most monstrous figures. They also touch on the upcoming series set in Stephen King's universe, “Welcome to Derry,” which promises to be a chilling exploration of fear and childhood trauma. With witty banter and insightful commentary, Kevin and Andy keep listeners engaged and informed about the best in geek culture while reflecting on how these narratives intersect with their shared faith.Kevin and Andy dive deep into the latest and greatest in geek culture, serving up a buffet of fresh news from the realms of movies and TV. With the latest buzz surrounding a new series from Vince Gilligan, the creative mind behind classics like Breaking Bad, they explore the intricacies of a dystopian world where a hive mind controls the remnants of humanity, leaving one cynical woman to navigate a sea of happiness that feels anything but real. They dissect the science—sometimes a little too far-fetched for Andy's taste—and the philosophical undertones about independence and societal connection, making it clear that this isn't just another sci-fi series but a thought-provoking journey that questions what it truly means to be human. And let's not forget the light-hearted banter and witty digs that make their discussions so enjoyable! It's an episode packed to the brim with insightful critique and playful exchanges, ensuring listeners are not only informed but entertained. Next on the docket, the guys tackle the new Frankenstein adaptation from Guillermo del Toro, a project that's been in the works for ages and certainly lives up to expectations. With del Toro's signature flair for the macabre and the beautifully tragic, Kevin and Andy discuss how this adaptation reinterprets the classic tale, emphasizing themes of parenthood and the profound connections we forge, even in the darkest of circumstances. They navigate through the performances, with Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi shining in their roles, and discuss how del Toro breathes new life into a story that's been told many times before, crafting a narrative that resonates deeply with contemporary audiences. Their enthusiasm for the film is palpable, making it clear that this isn't just a retelling but a heartfelt exploration of what it means to create and nurture life. Finally, the duo wraps up with a look at the latest adaptation of The Running Man, directed by the ever-stylish Edgar Wright. Kevin shares his thoughts on the film, highlighting how it strays from its action-heavy origins to deliver a more faithful interpretation of Stephen King's novel. He dishes on the character of Ben Richards, played by Glenn Powell, and how the film's societal critiques are just as relevant today as they were when the book was penned. Despite mixed reviews, Kevin finds the film to be an exhilarating ride, filled with action, humor, and just enough heart to keep the audience engaged. With Edgar Wright's signature visual style and clever dialogue, the film promises to be a thrilling experience, even if it doesn't quite reach the highs of Wright's earlier works. This episode is a delightful mix of pop culture exploration, genuine enthusiasm, and the kind of insightful commentary that keeps listeners coming back for more.Takeaways: In this episode, Kevin and Andy dive deep into the latest buzz in geek culture, covering new shows and films like 'Flibus' and 'Frankenstein', while blending humor and...
After weeks of exploring what other forms the entity/the Galloo can conjure up in IT: Welcome to Derry, director Andy Muschietti's plan paid off, revealing Pennywise the Dancing Clown as a mid-season treat.Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.
Pennywise bassist Randy Bradbury never set out to start a new band. But one day, inspiration struck — hard — and a stream of songs began pouring out of him like they were meant to exist. What began as a personal creative outlet quickly evolved into 84 Days, a full-blown rock project fueled by instinct, collaboration, and pure musical chemistry. Joined by Grammy-winning producer Cameron Webb, the two shaped Randy's raw demos into a powerful, melodic, punk-driven record featuring contributions from Adrian Young of No Doubt, Warren Fitzgerald of The Vandals, and Erik “Smelly” Sandin of NOFX for the live lineup. In this episode of Caught on the Mike, Randy and Cameron break down the spark that started it all, the magic of the studio sessions, the themes behind their debut album, and what it means to create something for no other reason than the love of music itself. 84 Days' debut album is out now via Double Helix Records.www.84daysband.com
Some shows keep a tight lid on their mysteries. Not this one. Their thought process must be, "Let's flood them with so many answers, it'll only inspire far more questions." We see what The Shining looks like with Dick Hallorann. We have a better understanding of Pennywise's reach and limitations. And we may have even discovered some major easter eggs!

Thumb War is back and slightly annoyed for a new Welcome to Derry Episode 4 Review! We're forced to ask a serious question: Is this the worst episode yet? The Stephen King Universe lore is being dumped like it's an end-of-season yard sale, and frankly, we're tired of them explaining everything. On this episode of Thumb War, Jason, Rachel, and special guest Jeshua Kidd wade through the Derry, Maine mud to discuss the highly questionable writing and deeply confusing plot points. We break down the absolutely cringe-worthy dialogue, the heavy-handed Pennywise connections and whether the excessive Stephen King Easter Eggs are just fan service covering up a weak script. In this train wreck, we discuss: The truly unbelievable "How do you move a piano?" scene that made us question everything. Is the 'friendly one' from Juniper Hill trustworthy, or just another convenient plot device? Why the show is struggling to move beyond exposition and actually tell a story. After confessing to 33 murders, Gacy pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming multiple personalities made him kill. The jury didn't buy it - guilty on all counts. February 1980: sentenced to death. Fourteen years on death row painting clowns, giving interviews, showing zero remorse. May 10, 1994: executed by lethal injection. Final words: "Kiss my ass." Gacy's legacy: He created the "killer clown" trope that defines American horror. Stephen King's Pennywise exists because of Pogo.Unlock an ad-free podcast experience with Caloroga Shark Media! Mentioned: Bloodsong of Wycaro excerpt (free from the Apple Book Store): https://books.apple.com/us/book/bloodsong-of-wycaro/id6754341665 Next up on Pluribus: S1E5 “Got Milk”. Let us know your thoughts! You can email or send a voice message to oneofus@podcastica.com. Or get subsumed into our Podcastica Facebook group, where we put up comment posts for each episode, at facebook.com/groups/podcastica. Hosted by Jason, Kara, and Randy. Spoilers for Welcome to Derry Episode 3! Thumb War returns to Derry, Maine, where the sewers are wet, the ghost children look like Spirit Halloween interns, and the cemetery scene feels one jump scare away from a discount haunted house behind a Home Depot. After two strong episodes, Episode 3 might be our first real stumble of the season. We break down: Did the show blow its horror budget in Episodes 1 & 2? Are these ghost kid vibes spooky or just… sticky? Why does the community meeting scene feel like mid-season Canadian public access TV? Are we in Derry or at Canada's Wonderland Fright Night? Pennywise lore updates (even though he may be on PTO this week) We still love the show, but we also reserve the right to yell at it. The terror continues in Episode 2 of HBO's IT: Welcome to Derry — titled "The Thing in the Dark." Following the shocking theatre massacre of Episode 1, Derry's secrets run deeper than ever as new horrors crawl out from beneath the surface. In this episode, the Geekz break down:
Welcome back to GEEKFLIX! Tonight we're diving deep into Episode 3 of IT: Welcome to Derry — the chilling HBO Max prequel expanding the terrifying world of Stephen King's IT. As the town's dark history tightens its grip, Episode 3 delivers major reveals, character turns, unsettling visions, and new Pennywise connections that push Derry further into the shadows. From disturbing discoveries beneath the surface to emotional trauma echoing through the town, this episode turns up the dread and ramps the story into full horror mode.
In new HBO prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry, we return to the clown who keeps on giving. Based on the Stephen King novel and a prequel to the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019), the show finds a whole new crop of kids being terrorized by whatever lives underneath their little town in Maine. And at the nearby military base, some of the local adults are acting pretty sketchy, too. There is a lot going on and a lot of it is very bloody. Bill Skarsgård returns as Pennywise, but be patient since it takes a while to lay eyes on him.To access bonus episodes and sponsor-free listening for Pop Culture Happy Hour, subscribe to Pop Culture Happy Hour+ at plus.npr.org/happy.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
