Let food be thy medicine. This has been known for thousands and thousands of years. And yet somehow we have let Big Food and their toxic processed food run riot with our health. Today's guest has done incredible research on how small, easily achievable adjustments to calcium and protein intake can reduce an elderly person's risk of hip fracture, and therefore likelihood of early mortality, by nearly 50%. The message of today's show is that the more real food we can provide ourselves and our family, the stronger, healthier and longer we are going to live together. Dr. Sandra Iuliano is a renowned expert in integrative and functional medicine, specialising in personalised health approaches that address the root causes of chronic conditions. She is also a researcher at the University of Melbourne, based at Austin Health, where her work focuses on the benefits of improved nutrition in reducing falls and fracture risk in the elderly, particularly those in aged care. Dr. Iuliano's research highlights the significant impact of diet and lifestyle on preventing age-related health issues, such as osteoporosis and frailty.Join us as we explore:Why the elderly are at more fracture and mortality risk due to dietary deficiencies, and how a small change in what you eat can reduce hip fracture risk by 46%.Why children are not getting enough calcium and impact-type exercise during crucial early years of development and creating bone density disease later in life. How to eat to get sufficient calcium, even with dairy intolerance.Protein intake requirements from childhood to the elder years. The highest calcium and protein foods per gram, and why quality beats quantity.Mentions:Research - Dr Sandra Iuliano, https://www.researchgate.net/scientific-contributions/Sandra-Iuliano-2043667530 Support the showFollow Steve's socials: Instagram | LinkedIn | YouTube | Facebook | Twitter | TikTokSupport the show on Patreon:As much as we love doing it, there are costs involved and any contribution will allow us to keep going and keep finding the best guests in the world to share their health expertise with you.
Robert W. Iuliano was appointed the 15th president of Gettysburg College in 2019, coming from a position as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Harvard University. In this interview Iuliano talks about the stresses of the pandemic on students, faculty, parents, and administrators. He acknowledges there have been long-term effects on learning that the college is working to alleviate, but also says that new and effective methods of instruction have come out of the challenges COVID presented. Iuliano outlines some of the ways the college interacts with the community. If you enjoy the podcast, please take a few seconds to support us by signing up for our weekly mailing list. This week we continue our conversation centered on IIN's Circle of Life Exercise and focus on the topic of Education. When I sat down to brainstorm who would be the perfect guest to welcome onto the show for this chat, it dawned on me that my alma mater, Gettysburg College, has a president who - funnily enough - is also a podcast host!Flash to be taking a deep breath, giving myself a little pep talk, and writing a long-winded email to President Iuliano about who I am, what my podcast is all about, and a request for an hour of his time to record a podcast episode together. And he said yes!So let this conversation be a reminder to you, dear friend, that you never know what you can create or bring into being by simply asking and putting yourself "out there." Because if you never put it out there, it's not going to happen. But if you gather your gumption and just try - what might you bring to fruition? And what DID happen was an insightful conversation with Gettysburg College's 15th President, Robert Iuliano, where he shares his four-step approach to living a life of meaning which includes: being open to moments of serendipity, embracing a degree of humility, a willingness to take risks, and finally appreciation for the good in life.So pour yourself a fresh cup of coffee, press play, and let Bob inspire you to live a life that's authentic to you and the unique ways you personally find joy and purpose.Resourcesshow notes | join the newsletter | live by design goal setting masterclass | @livebydesignpodcast | health coaching with kate | schedule your discovery call | free meditation library Health Coaching with Kate: And if you're feeling like health coaching might be the right fit for you, I'd love to schedule a free Discovery Call with you to see if we'd work well in a coaching relationship! Enjoy!

THE CIO POINT OF VIEW - Carlo Iuliano (Easytech Closures): "L'IT con le scatolette di tonno? In this episode, Tony Iuliano, head of industrial capital markets and logistics at JLL, and Jamie Guerra, head of industrial and logistics in Australia for JLL, provide the lowdown on a sector picking right up again on this side of the crisis. In this episode of Conversations Beneath the Cupola, podcast host, Gettysburg College President Robert W. Iuliano, is joined by guest Susan Eisenhower. Eisenhower is the Chairman Emerita of the Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College and granddaughter of Dwight Eisenhower. She is also an author, an international policy consultant, an expert on international security, space policy, energy, and relations between the Russian Federation and the United States of America. Iuliano and Eisenhower begin the episode by discussing Dwight Eisenhower’s legacy on Gettysburg College through the lens of the Eisenhower Institute. At first, the Eisenhower Institute was a foundation created to give out scholarships, but it has grown to take on a more dynamic nature with roots in educating rising generations about important issues, which ultimately led to its affiliation with Gettysburg College in the early 1990s. Beyond her involvements with the Eisenhower Institute, teaching a class called Strategy and Leadership in Transformational Times and taking several students on a trip to the beaches of Normandy, both of which have led to lasting connections between her and students, Eisenhower shares the broader connections that she has with Gettysburg, and reflects on what about this place was special and significant to her grandfather. In reflecting on Dwight’s time, Eisenhower also offers advice on how we can bridge political divides today and advice to students generally. This advice includes uniting the country around central ideas, redefining leadership, and remaining optimistic. Eisenhower stands behind this advice, as this is the same advice she would offer people too. At the end of this episode, Eisenhower talks briefly about her new book, How Ike Led: The Principles Behind His Biggest Decision, which will be released in 2020. Welcome to the first episode of Conversations Beneath the Cupola with host Gettysburg College President Robert Iuliano. With an extensive career in higher education, Iuliano has been in positions of administrative leadership and has been a professor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In this episode of Conversations Beneath the Cupola podcast, Iuliano has invited Lawrence Bacow, Harvard University’s 29th president. Bacow has extensive experience in higher education and has held his current position since 2018. Aside from this, Bacow’s career experience with teaching and educational leaders spans three decades. As Iuliano and Bacow get into the interview, Bacow notes that the view of higher education has changed, where it is more common to consider higher education as an investment and less as education. Skepticism of higher education has risen and public support for higher education has fallen due to unreasonable costs, left-leaning bias, and self-aggrandizing focus. However, regardless of naysayers, Bacow underscores the role of a liberal arts education in teaching students to master critical reasoning skills, an invaluable skillset for all aspects of life. Bacow shares his insights into the cost of higher education. He mentions that it is important to address this issue. In addition, there is pressure to make sure that stakeholders’ desires are seen to. These desires include curriculum design, setting a right price, transferring the right skill sets, enabling services for students, and the like. One important aspect that needs to be maintained is making sure to represent the different opinions across the societal and political spectrum. At the end of this episode, Bacow shares final advice and his impressions from Inauguration weekend at Gettysburg College. Subscribe to our podcast and listen to the full episode to hear the entirety of these thoughts and insights into the future of liberal arts education. It’s almost impossible to run your own business without encountering SOME bumps in the road at some point. However, I’ve found that it’s how you think about those ups and downs (that are inherent in entrepreneurship) that makes ALL the difference in your bottom line. It’s those very thoughts that will propel you further ahead or stop you right in your tracks. And I’d be willing to bet you’d prefer the former. ;) So today we’re talking about the mindset shift you need to embrace the uncertainty of running your own biz and the thoughts that will support you in taking more actions that are in alignment with what you want so you can see more results, sooner, and with less stress. If you’re someone who feels like you’ve encountered setbacks in biz (or in life) and it’s knocked your confidence down and left you wondering where to go from here, or maybe it's all been going well but the uncertainty is becoming increasingly uncomfortable, you’re going to love the mindset shift we chat about in today’s episode.-Check out the show notes here!-I know when you’re IN it, it can be so hard to see those less-than-stellar results through a different lens. It can also be hard to see how everything is happening FOR you rather than TO you. And I’ve been there too. But because of that, I’m such an advocate for getting the right support in your biz. That support can be essential to helping you shift your thoughts, take more of the right actions, and see results like more leads, more clients, and more money far sooner than going at it alone. If you’re ready to get to the root of your biggest mindset block and find what’s been holding you back in your biz the MOST then you’re absolutely going to want to join me for my free, Master Your Money Mindset coaching call. During this 30-minute session, we’ll talk about the mindset shift you need to stop standing in your own way, replaying previous setbacks in your head, and instead focus on the results you DO want so you can start taking more of the right actions and generating more money in your biz. I only do three of these calls each week and they’ve been filling fast so head over to amandajoyceweber.com/moneymindset to grab yours before they’re gone! Morning Prayers service with speaker Robert W. Iuliano, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, and Special Advisor to the President, Harvard University, on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.
Abstract: This lecture explores the steel, brick and ferro-concrete Cambridge built in the late 50s and 60s: the almost invisible ‘Other Cambridge’, that today is not part of the identity of the city. Cambridge as a city, indeed as a University, is commonly linked to a more reassuring model in the English tradition, compressed between the noble stereotype of King’s chapel and the view from The Backs. Arcadian visions that communicate calm in the name of the arts and scholarly pursuits. But what of innovation? The aim of this talk is to stimulate a debate regarding a controversial period of architecture that is undergoing a suppression of memory and to open up to the wider public the ‘other side’ of Cambridge, often unknown and misjudged. Apart from Stirling’s Faculty of History there are many interesting buildings unknown to the general public as well as to the international scholarly community. The cues for this task are contained in the splendid images preserved in the RIBA British Architectural Library Photographs Collection that will be analysed during this seminar, which complements the exhibition Cambridge in Concrete. Biography: Marco Iuliano is a Senior Research Associate of DIGIS (Digital Studio for Research in Design, Visualisation and Communication) and a Marie Curie Fellow in the Department of Architecture at Cambridge. His research focuses on the intersections between architecture and the visual arts. He is the recipient of several grants and awards, including the Italian CNR Fellowship (2005), the J.B. Harley Fellowship (British Library, 2008) and the Paul Mellon Centre Grant for Studies in British Art (2012). His many publications include a contribution to the History of Cartography (University of Chicago Press) and he is UK correspondent for Il Giornale dell'Architettura. Dr Iuliano has co-authored three books: the most recent, Melchior Lorck, was selected as 2010 Book of the Year in the Times Literary Supplement. He has taught Contemporary Architectural History since 2005 and is curator of the 2012 exhibition Cambridge in Concrete.
