MTE day 2 was another crazy day filled with amazing guests. We started the day talking to El Hajj Yasir Waqaar, who I met years ago at Detail Fest, and we've remained friends ever since. Next up we had Kelly Harris and Justyna Brys who broke the news that they are dating and giving us the scoop. Justin Labato and Rich Umbrell from Buff-n-Shine sat down next to tell us about their new revolutionary foam pads. Jason Bruno took off, so I brought on Chris DiGiovanni to talk with Jacki Orlando. Jacki was working the Pro booth and we got to ask her all about that. After a quick lunch we met up with the History channel's newest TV star Jamie Buchanan who gave us a little taste of what we can expect when we get him on for a full-length episode in the near future. Our buddy Dale Blankenship happened to be standing around, so we had him pull up a chair. We gave him a "Details after Dark" crash course on the loofah code, so he could be on the lookout when he goes to the Villages. All weekend we were next to this lovely couple from Fieldd, so we invited Harrison over to give them a chance to discuss their software. Next up was the Mad Chemist, John Hogg from Angelwax. John talked about making ceramics and waxes live at MTE and to everyone's surprise we actually could understand him. As the day wound down, we finished off MTE with Sydni Brae Gwinn and Alan Medcraf to catch up and recap on the weekend. In this episode I will be having a conversation with Kelly Harris, an entrepreneur who knows first hand what it's like to jump in and take action even when it isn't perfect. Starting a business without perfection is an achievable goal for any aspiring entrepreneur. In the age of digital technology, it's easier than ever to create a platform and get your product or service out into the world. However, many entrepreneurs struggle to take the leap because they want everything to be perfect before they launch their business. This practice often leads to procrastination, self-doubt and inactivity – this isn't conducive to success! The best way to move forward is by taking action that isn't perfect; creating an email list, engaging with customers or even just writing down ideas are all great steps towards progress. The effects of taking action can be hugely beneficial for entrepreneurs – not only does it help build confidence through experience but it also encourages creativity and movement towards one's goals. Today, I have Kelly Harris, owner of Virtual Solutions, LLC. She is a copywriter, a content strategist who helps coaches create consistency and visibility. Connect with Kelly and she will articulate your greatness, increase your sales, and get your message to the world. How She Started Her BusinessKelly was a kindergarten teacher for 8 years. She loves teaching. She has always known since she went into teaching that she wanted to do it for 10 years. She never saw herself retiring because she knew early in her first years of teaching, she have met older teachers and all of them have medical problems. She then started researching work-from-home jobs where she could babysit while doing what she loves to do and helping people. She then came across the free mama movement of Lauren Golden, who teaches moms how to be virtual assistants. She thought that she can also do that because she checked emails all the time, she makes newsletters for parents, and do data all the time and so that's how she started. She built her virtual assistance business in December 2020. About February last year, she and her husband have some stuff to do with the boy scout, and they had to write something. His husband is just like he want something or he didn't know what to do. She just sat down and started writing the words she heard from her husband. And then, she handed down the notes to her husband with all the things he said. He then decided to use it as a ticket for wood badge. With a wood badge, to do leadership, you have to pick 5 goals and you have a year and a half to do them. And she literally wrote his ticket based on what he was talking about. That was a memorable moment for her because she realized that she loves to write. From that point in time, from being just a virtual assistant, she wants to pursue becoming a copywriter and content strategist. She also knew that her calling is to help people build a relationship.Just because you are scared, you do it anyway. Do it because you know it's the next right step. There are days that you'll feel that your move is scary. There are also days that what you did was a terrible plan. But you keep moving forward because that's what you CAN do.“Fail” means attempts and learnings. If you are learning something from it, then you really fail. As a business owner, fail faster. That's because you have to have the lessons before you can be successful. You need to have this experience to get through with it. Fail faster because that's one step closer to success.3 Tips to Improve Your Writing and Build Confidence1. Do a journal every day. She sets a 15-20 minute timer to write down things that are bothering her, things that she needs to get done, and things that she has questions about life. She also makes sure that every day, she lists down the top 5 things she is grateful for. This will help you focus on your goals.2. Outline. The process may work for others but not for you. You have to figure out the system that will work for you.3. Build confidence and confidence comes from taking enthusiasm. When you write, you can always go back to it to edit it later or fix the typo. Stop waiting until it's perfect because it's not going to be perfect. Perfect doesn't exist and so you just have to write it and if you get stuck into perfection, just let it go.Find topics that you absolutely love to write about. It's totally okay to write about them over and over again. Be okay if your message only reaches one person. If you serve one person every day, then you reach your goal. If you serve more people every day, then absolutely, do it!Support the show (http://www.thesavvyscribepodcast.com)

Kelly Harris has always had traditional work in her career, but after finding Kathy, her life changed. She is now able to take on remote work, work her own schedule, and everything that she is doing for her clients is very rewarding work! Kelly shares her story and what it’s been like to go her own way, and finally make that leap.   Key takeaways: Kelly shares a little bit about herself and her background. Kelly wanted to find another income because her husband had retired, and she still had a lot of work left in her! Kelly is super lucky that she has a supportive husband that helped her through all of this “online stuff.” What kind of work does Kelly like to do? Prior to becoming a VA, Kelly was working at a church as an administrative assistant. Kelly had a really hard time taking the leap out of salaried work to do her own thing. Kelly ran the numbers with one of the people from Kathy’s group and she realized it would have only been a $100 difference. It was a no-brainer after that! Kelly is so grateful for the types of clients she has been able to acquire. They are all so supportive. Kelly feels so proud she’s able to do this. What’s it like being part of Kathy’s community?   Resources: Kelly on LinkedIn Email Kelly: KellyDHarris99@gmail.com   Quotes:   “If you want to be a VA, you don’t have to stay going in one direction, you can go in as many directions you feel like going in.”   “I was working almost seven days a week and I had to go down and do all of the little odd jobs, and then it became a really bad situation.”   “I don’t think I would have done this without the help of Kathy’s groups. You need that network and you need those people behind you.”

She bounces between the pages, as well as the accompanying audio version of the poems, with confidence. Kalamu Ya Salaam writes in the introduction “The poet’s task is to turn words into song, utter incantations that heal, inspire, be more than ordinary talk” and Harris-DeBerry has a voice that encompasses each other those tasks. It is strong and it is unwavering. Whether she is on the page or in readers’ ears, Harris-DeBerry’s poetry is a bounty of culture, womanhood, home, and possibility. In an age where everything can be, and is, commodified for profit and the cool factor yet the actual Black artists producing the work can be undervalued, Harris-DeBerry’s poetry honors and respects the legacies of Southern migration, the Midwest, and Blackness.
