Branding has always been a cornerstone of my own agency. We've spent a ton of time and effort building brands for clients. We have, like all of you, created what we think of as a proprietary process around brand, and it's a topic that I have a great passion around. Many of you are either too polite to ask or have point-blank asked me, "Drew, what is the deal with you at Disney." Brand is part of why I love them so much. One of the aspects of Disney that I really admire and connect to the most is that I think they're just about as good as it gets in terms of understanding their brand, building their brand, and evolving their brand over time. One of the guys in the agency space who I think is really brilliant at branding is an Iowa based agency owner named Nick Westergaard. His new book, Brand Now: How to Stand Out in a Crowded, Distracted World, just came out and it is a brilliant blueprint for how to create a memorable, meaningful brand in today's chaotic time and space. Nick and I talked about are how building a brand has changed in this digital crazy, crowded, distracted time, and what are some of the elements that we as agencies can really spotlight and offer as a huge value to our clients. How do we use brand as an agency offering to stay sticky with our clients rather than a one and done project? Nick is a strategist, speaker, author, and educator. As Chief Brand Strategist at Brand Driven Digital, he helps build better brands at organizations of all sizes — from small businesses and Fortune 500 companies to President Obama’s Jobs Council. In addition to his new book, Nick is also the author of Get Scrappy: Smarter Digital Marketing for Businesses Big and Small. Nick is a sought-after keynote speaker at conferences and corporate events throughout the world. He teaches at the University of Iowa where he sits on the Advisory Council of the Marketing Institute at the Tippie College of Business and the Professional Advisory Board for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He is also a mentor at the Iowa Startup Accelerator. What you’ll learn about in this episode: Working with brands in a distracted, digital age How the world changed our views about how we should be looking at branding Why simplicity in branding is more critical than ever How agencies can help their clients understand what storytelling really is and how to help them construct better brand stories Why “Story” is a buzzword and how we can rescue it Why the main character in the story shouldn’t be the brand and why it should be the client’s end user Why making sure employees understand the brand is so important for your agency culture and the work that they do for clients The role agencies play in building brands and moving the brand forward How to provide real value to clients in this era of distraction and rapid change The opportunities agency owners are missing out on during the brand discovery process Why a brand is everything a company does – and why that doesn’t have to be overwhelming Why it’s important for you to plant your flag for your brand How Nick’s book can help agencies work together on their own brand The value of getting outside perspective on your own agency Ways to contact Nick Westergaard: Website: www.nickwestergaard.com Website: www.branddrivendigital.com Book: Brand Now: How to Stand Out in a Crowded, Distracted World We’re proud to announce that Hubspot is now the presenting sponsor of the Build A Better Agency podcast! Many thanks to them for their support!
This week Joseph chats to Brendan Maguire about, Online Buying Behaviour - understanding the digital consumer and the implications for website design and strategy.Brendan is an experienced digital marketing specialist, lecturer and keynote speaker with over 15 years extensive experience in Digital Marketing. Previous employers include Coca Cola, the Marketing Institute of Ireland, Dublin Business School, IT Tallaght, NCI, Sureskills Ltd, and the Digital Marketing Institute Topic(1) High v Low Involvement PurchasesVery often conversions are discussed in a very general sense and I've noticed a perception building that many people see all conversions being the same - the reality is that conversions are user defined and we need to set appropriate conversions for our business.High involvement purchases seldom convert on the first visit.Sometimes too much focus on the persona - not enough on the buying situation or type of product/service. Balance.(2) General consumer buyer behaviour- Traditional model - (1) Problem Recognition, (2) Information Search, (3) Evaluation of Alternatives, (4) Purchase Decision and (5) Post Purchase BehaviourDynamic Consumer Journey - at each stage of this process, users can take both shallow and deep "dives" to gather more information for the particular stage they are at in the journey. Users are often self qualifying themselves.(3) ShowroomingThe use of mobile devices to research products and services while in store.(4) Digital Marketing Strategy - RACE modelIf we have high involvement purchase - chances of getting customer to buy on first device and from a mobile device are slim. Therefore we need a strategy to try to turn these visits into leads - call to actions for sign ups, call backs or the use of advanced tagging with Google Tag Manager to build higher quality remarketing lists which can be used to close sales.CheersJoehttps://joedalton.ie/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

“Our brand means many things to many people.” As we cheer from the sidelines and the comfort of our couch on game day, it can be easy to loose sight of the fact that great American sports teams like the Minnesota Vikings are some of our most prominent brands. One thing these mega-brands can’t loose sight of is their fans. “Fans first and foremost,” said Vikings CMO Steve LaCroix during our recent chat. If you’re a Vikings fan, a brand builder, or both, you won’t want to miss this week’s episode. Ready? BREAK! About Steve LaCroix Now in his 15th season with the Minnesota Vikings, Steve LaCroix serves as the team’s Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer. LaCroix oversees all aspects of Vikings-generated revenues. He also leads the team’s radio and television programming, websites, digital and social media initiatives, merchandise and e-commerce operations, community and special events, marketing partnerships, advertising, branding, promotions, graphic design, fan relations and game day activities. He also played a significant role in the recent stadium transition team. LaCroix has led a variety of additional new initiatives, including the team’s introduction of an enhanced Norseman logo and new uniforms in 2013, the second uniform change under LaCroix’s leadership. The club has also brought radio and television broadcast rights in-house and started year-round weekly television and radio programming. The Vikings have had multiple full re-designs of vikings.com and opened Vikings Locker Room official retail stores across the Twin Cities. Fans have been treated to the introduction of Viktor the Viking, the official team mascot, and the Skol Line drum line. Under LaCroix, the Vikings sellout streak reached 144 games at Mall of America Field. A fellow alum of the University of Iowa and board member for the Marketing Institute here on campus, I was excited to welcome Steve to the On Brand podcast. As We Wrap … Before we go, I want to flip the microphone around to our community … With two Iowa Hawkeyes on the podcast this week, we had to give a shout to the (then) undefeated Hawks who are now Rose Bowl bound!
