This episode of EV Musings explores the concept of renting electric vehicles (EVs) instead of owning them. The discussion covers short-term rental services like Zimble, which offers hourly EV rentals with home delivery, and traditional rental companies like Europcar, which provide both short-term and long-term EV rental options. The episode highlights the benefits of EV rentals, including cost savings, reduced environmental impact, and the opportunity for potential EV buyers to experience driving an electric car before making a purchase. We'll look at the big rental companies AND the smaller, more bespoke rental companiesGuest Details:Tom Middleditch - An experienced marketing and product development leader, Tom has been in the mobility sector for more than 15 years, and has worked for a number of brands in the leisure and business travel space. He joined Europcar in 2015, and today leads the B2B marketing activities. With a passion for greener motoring, in Summer 2023 he was appointed as Head of Electric Mobility. In particular, Tom's focus has been on widening awareness of the role vehicle rental can play in helping businesses and individuals reduce their environmental impact – whether that be changing attitudes to vehicle ownership or driving electric. Dispelling the myths around electric motoring is a central objective of this activity. Iceland has a stunning landscape with glaciers galore … but is more properly fire island. Lava, earthquakes eruptions and volcanoes dominate life and world headlines. Before Christmas 2023, an eruption forced people from their homes in the fishing port of Grindavik. One year and six eruptions later – the townspeople are back. But another eruption nearby is spewing lava across the car park of the famous Blue Lagoon. By the time you hear this podcast, that eruption could be over… or much worse.Yet despite all the risk and uncertainty, many Icelanders say they live here because of their volcanoes not despite them. About the episode: EV industry pioneer Sam Clarke, a record-holding entrepreneur with over two decades in electric mobility shares his journey from importing electric motorbikes in the early 2000s to founding a zero-emissions logistics company and advising on national EV infrastructure. We discuss debunking myths around electric vehicles and explore how the concept of 'grazing' can reset our expectations of electric vehicle charging. Guest Name: Sam Clarke Sam Clarke is a life-long entrepreneur, industry advisor, EV owner/driver for over 20 years and a multiple Guinness World Record Holder for EV driving. His EV journey started back in 2002 with electric motorbikes before founding a zero-emission logistics firm (Gnewt) which he sold to John Menzies Plc in 2017. He now works on national charging infrastructure needs for GRIDSERVE in particular leading on the £100M+ Government funded (ZEHID) eHGV Electric Freightway Project. He is also a founding member of The EV Café webinar and news channel. In 2015, Sam was a Great British Entrepreneur's Award winner. By 2022 he was made a GreenFleet EV Champion for services to the industry and in 2024 he was voted #1 in the Motor Transport Power Players 2 list and #14 in the greenfleet.net 1 top 100 most Influential list. He also holds two Guinness World Records for the longest distances ever driven in an electric car and van on a single charge 7 (569 and 311 miles respectively). In 2009 he founded the all-electric last-mile logistics business Gnewt which subsequently won multiple awards nationally and globally and was acquired by John Menzies Plc in 2017. During his tenure, he created the UK's largest fully electric commercial fleet, the largest privately-owned smart charging infrastructure and UK's most advanced private V2G (Vehicle to Grid) network. With Sam at the helm, the business was able to deliver over 10 million parcels in its first 10 years of trading 3, mainly in Central London, courtesy of a trail-blazing fully zero-emission fleet, the first of its kind anywhere in the UK. Most recently, Sam has extended his role from Board advisor at GRIDSERVE to become their Chief Vehicle Officer 4. His role is to drive forward mass uptake of electric vehicles through the creation of a net-zero EV leasing division, commercial charging infrastructure build-outs and support the nationwide roll out of high-powered Electric Forecourts and upgrade of the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway network that resides on 85% of the service stations nationally. In 2023 he led the successful bid for a £100M+ Innovate UK Government fund (ZEHID 6) whose purpose is to roll out eHGV charging infrastructure nationwide, the second largest award ever issued by Innovate UK to private enterprise. Sam is a high-profile member of the EV community, a regular public speaker for the industry and has previously been invited to speak at the Transport Select Committee in Westminster and at the European Commission in Brussels. He is also a founding member and Company Director/Shareholder of The EV Café Ltd 5. which is a popular webinar series discussing all aspects of EV adoption on regular weekly and monthly sessions. The EV Café has a number of high-profile sectoral sponsors including companies such as, but not limited to, The AA, Europcar, Bridgestone and Webfleet. If Janine was on TripAdvisor I would add five out of five stars. You want a more efficient, thriving business that allows you to choose when you work. Bring on the FREEDOM already! The only people who truly know how fab you are previous clients. You only want to work with lovely people who value you and in return you want to give them the best possible results. I'm going to come right out and say it; nobody is as good as I am at helping people with their service offers. Some clients need help standing out in their field and articulating their difference. Others want to package their expertise in a way that makes it obvious why their ideal clients would want it. No matter the price point. My way into it is always through their offers. What are you putting out in the world? How do people know you're what they need? That's the work I love the most. I also have a business degree, a post-grad diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and 15 yrs + working with brands such as EE, Orange and Europcar on proposition development (AKA offers). Some say they got nothing from their qualifications or corporate career. Personally, it's given me so much insight! I know how the big boys do it so I can see which bits us smaller bods can leave out and which bits we need to keep in. Janine https://janinecoombes.co.uk/

A Different Approach To Pricing & Positioning Architectural Services with Janine Coombes | 002

In this episode of Architecture Business Club, host Jon Clayton speaks with service positioning expert, Janine Coombes, to discuss different approaches to pricing and positioning architectural services. Acknowledging common charging methods such as percentage of build costs, fixed price, or by the hour, they address the potential of learning from other service sectors. Janine stresses the importance of selling the benefit rather than the service. She urges architectural service providers to emphasize the outcome of their work rather than the service itself. They also delve into the concept of 'niching', carving out a specific corner of the marketplace to establish a unique proposition. The episode also broaches the delicate topic of handling pricing proposals.Today's Guest...Janine Coombes is a service positioning expert who helps coaches and consultants to earn drastically more from their 1:1 services without slogging their guts out or moving to a more complicated business model. She has an extensive background in business and marketing including working with big brands like EE, Orange, and Europcar. Janine also has a business degree, a post-graduate marketing diploma (CIM Dip) and for the last 7 years has been helping small, service-based business owners to position and sell their offers. She regularly speaks on stages like Atomicon, You Are The Media, and MarketEd.Live. She's a skilled writer and one of the most creative content creators out there.Episode Highlights...00:00 Introduction to Architectural Services Pricing00:27 About the Host and the Show00:59 Introduction to Guest Speaker - Janine Coombes01:12 Janine's Background and Expertise02:01 Janine's Unusual Hobby03:00 Pricing Strategies for Architectural Services03:28 The Importance of Positioning and Niching03:35 Common Mistakes in Pricing Services06:38 How to Present Services to Potential Clients11:02 The Art of Sending a Fee Proposal26:49 The Benefits of Niching30:49 Final Thoughts and Wrap Up33:41 Preview of the Next Episode34:02 Closing Remarks and Contact InformationKey Takeaways...

And on the other hand, she learned how to use pragmatic diagnostic tools for personality and competence development, studied for two and a half years alongside her self-employment to complete her Master of Science degree, and successively built up her company.Together with her husband Martin Nimsky, she founded the "Institute for Intrinsic Competence", which has set itself the task of enabling people to access their innermost potential, to find out about blockages and to dissolve them, so that they can live their individual talent. However, she is not only booked for leadership trainings to build up relationship competence at C-level or coaching for board members, but also for strategy conferences in which she gives impulses for vision and mission development and adapts and moderates them to the orientation of the company. In doing so, she accompanies companies from a wide range of industries, such as white goods, automotive, engineering, credit unions and financial services companies, real estate, horticulture and mobile homes, as well as food retail.Beate Nimsky now puts all her knowledge, enthusiasm and energy for action into successfully building up the biotonus network and running the biotonus Corporation USA. Her personal motto is: BAM - Business Anders Machen (Business Done Different).

In this episode I'm joined by marketing expert Janine Coombes. Janine helps small businesses create simple marketing that works, using the processes she honed in her 15 years working with big brands like EE, Orange and Europcar so you get more results from the marketing efforts you put in. In this interview, you'll hear how difficult Janine found the transition from corporate life to running her own business, the mindset challenges she had to overcome, including battling the feeling that to be a good mum she had to replicate her own Mother's experiences, and how she still has a wobble whenever a new opportunity arrives in her business. We chat about the importance of being authentic in our businesses, Janine shares her tips for focusing on the fundamentals of business strategy and the aha moment that changed her life and led her to not only become more intentional in her life and work but to fronting her own band! This was such a fun interview to record with Janine, grab a pen and paper to write down all the great nuggets she shares, and I hope you enjoy listening to it.
