Your Kingdom Come, Pt. 1 | January 5, 2025Pastor Wes Morris Matthew 18:1-5 (GNT) At that time the disciples came to Jesus, asking, “Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?” So Jesus called a child to come and stand in front of them, and said, “I assure you that unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven. The greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven is the one who humbles himself and becomes like this child. And whoever welcomes in my name one such child as this, welcomes me.√ God's Kingdom is an upside-down kingdom. Matthew 5:3-11 (NIV) Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Matthew 6:9-10 (NIV) This is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.'√ Praying “Your Kingdom come” is asking God to rule over the world and in my life.Matthew 16:18-19 (MSG) You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out.And that's not all. You will have complete and free access to God's kingdom, keys to open any and every door: no more barriers between heaven and earth, earth and heaven. A yes on earth is yes in heaven. A no on earth is no in heaven. LIKE A CHILDI. WONDER - Living in the fullness and awe of God's presence and goodness. Colossians 1:27 (MSG) This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it's out in the open. God wanted everyone to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you.Hebrews 11:28-29 (NLT) Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. For our God is a consuming fire. II. HUMILITY - Laying down my pride and daily surrendering to God's will.Psalm 51:17 (MSG) Going through the motions doesn't please you, a flawless performance is nothing to you. I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered. The Way to Win | May 12, 2024 Pastor Wes Morris Mark 8:31-35 (GNT) Then Jesus began to teach his disciples: “The Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. He will be put to death, but three days later he will rise to life.” He made this very clear to them. So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But Jesus turned around, looked at his disciples, and rebuked Peter. “Get away from me, Satan,” he said. “Your thoughts don't come from God but from human nature!”Then Jesus called the crowd and his disciples to him. “If any of you want to come with me,” he told them, “you must forget yourself, carry your cross, and follow me. For if you want to save your own life, you will lose it; but if you lose your life for me and for the gospel, you will save it. ✓  Pleasing PeopleGalatians 1:10 (CEV) I am not trying to please people. What an empty life! The pursuit of pleasure is never satisfied.II Timothy 3:1-5 (ESV) But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. The Way to WinI. DIE TO SELF.Galatians 2:20 (NLT) My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.Romans 6:12-14 (GNT) Sin must no longer rule in your mortal bodies, so that you obey the desires of your natural self. Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin... Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes. II. FULLY SURRENDER TO GOD.Matthew 6:33 (NLT) Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.Ephesians 6:13 (NLT) Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground...Mark 8:35 (GNT) “If any of you want to come with me,” he told them, “you must forget yourself, carry your cross, and follow me. The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead. After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him.Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I love you.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said.A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. 1 Corinthians 3:16 (MSG) You realize, don't you, that you are the temple of God, and God himself is present in you? 1 Corinthians 3:1-23 (NKJV) “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2, I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3, for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4, For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? 5, Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but MINISTERS through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? 6, I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7, So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 8, Now he who plants and he who waters ARE ONE, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9, For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. 10, According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11, For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12, Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13, each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. 14, If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15, If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 16, Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17, If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. 18, Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19, For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; 20, and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”21, Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours: 22, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come—all are yours. 23, And you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.”

Join Tony and I for this heartfelt, transparent and honest conversation about homelessness, addiction and how the love of God redeems us no matter how far away we have gone. Tony is on staff at CU church and lives out his mission and heart for the homeless community. Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.' These two commands are pegs; everything in God's Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” Matthew 22:37-40 (MSG) You can connect with Tony on Facebook at Tony Comtois or on instagram at tony_comtois_3 For more information about CU church visit www.cuchurch.com To purchase Word Pictures with Meredith merchandise visit www.millsclothingco.com

Matthew 5:43-47 MSG "You're familiar with the old written law, 'Love your friend,' and its unwritten companion, 'Hate your enemy.' I'm challenging that. I'm telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that. 48 "In a word, what I'm saying is, Grow up. You're kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jcc-kikuyu/message

Life Group Leaders' Notes Title: How To Be Blessed When You Are SadKey Text: “Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4) As we start our new series called ‘How To Live A Blessed Life', we come to the first teaching that Jesus gave here in these beatitudes: Jesus said: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” In the modern world, some of the more popular paths to having a ‘blessed' life are through seeking pleasure, power, possessions and personal relationships. Yet so many people have acquired these, and are still not happy. Jesus' teachings, however, are the complete opposite to what many people consider the way to happiness. But Jesus said blessed are those who mourn. He promised that those who do will know great comfort in their lives. In what ways can this be true? God will comfort those who mourn for their sadness (Psalm 34:18, 147:3) God will comfort those who mourn for their sin (Proverbs 28:13, Psalm 51) God will comfort those who mourn for the state of the church and the world (Nehemiah 1:3-11) Apply 1. God will comfort those who mourn for their sadness (Psalm 34:18, 147:3) Clearly it is not a blessing to suffer grief. Yet the truth is that we can know blessings and comfort as a result of grief and mourning that we would not otherwise know. There are two very practical aspects to this verse: • Where there is sadness, you need to allow yourself to mourn. It is not good to suppress sorrow inside us, it needs to be let out or it will linger. • There is a relational aspect too: those who express their mourning can be comforted by someone. We were designed to need this, and there is no greater comforter than your Heavenly Father, who loves and understands you perfect. If we turn to God instead of away from God in our time of mourning, we can know great comfort and consolation. Matthew 5:4 (MSG) “You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.” Application - When you have something to grieve, do you find it easy to let it out, cry, and share it with God? Are there any sources of sadness bottled up inside you that you struggle to release? - Do you find it hard or easy to express your emotions to God when things have gone badly for you? 2. God will comfort those who mourn for their sin (Proverbs 28:13, Psalm 51) The Bible holds out a promise that we can be forgiven our sins, and released from the burden of them, but first we have to admit and repent of them. Matthew 5:4 (AMP) “Blessed [forgiven, refreshed by God's grace] are those who mourn [over their sins and repent], for they will be comforted [when the burden of sin is lifted]. Tears are a sign of mourning. True repentance means that when we come to God we are grieved for our sin. We are sad and remorseful about our wrong actions and attitudes. Such repentance is always a sign of a true spiritual awakening. Today, there is a great need for mourning about sin. Too many people try to brush away or excuse their guilt and shame. Application - Have you had a heart conviction of your own sin and repented of it? 3. God will comfort those who mourn for the state of the church and the world (Nehemiah 1:3-11) Mourning is something to be considered not only in terms of personal sadness and sin but also in respect to the spiritual state of the church and society around us. Both are closely linked. Billy Graham explained that the word mourning is to ‘feel deep sorrow, to show great concern, or to deplore some existing wrong.' It implies that if we are to live life on the higher plane, then we are to be sensitive, sympathetic, tender-hearted, and alert to the needs of others and the world. Graham explained that the opposite of mourning is insensitivity, lack of caring, unconcern, callousness, indifference. Nehemiah was deeply affected when he heard about the ruin of Jerusalem. Nehemiah 1: 3 They said to me, "Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire." The broken-down state of God's people and the nation deeply affected Nehemiah. This takes a level of maturity. He mourned for the state things were in. This was the starting point of the blessing of seeing the walls of Jerusalem rebuilt. As Christians it is time for us not to feel sad and helpless; it is time for us to mourn and cry out in intercession for the weak state of the church and the sinful state of the nation. Here are some of the ways that we can learn to mourn, if we want to see a new revival: - Mourn for wayward family members - Mourn for the multitudes who don't know Jesus Joel 3:14 says: Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. - Mourn over wickedness being portrayed as goodness Isaiah 5:20: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Whenever Christians truly mourn, comfort will follow. God will see our tears and hear our prayers and grant us success. This is what has happened before in Britain and many places. The Holy Spirit, the great Comforter will come when we are truly grieved and show this grief with our tears, prayers and sacrificial service. Application - Are you convicted to mourn for the state of the nation? - Do you know that when we mourn, we will be comforted.

1 Corinthians 2:1-2 (MSG) You'll  remember, friends, that when I first came to you to let you in on God's sheer genius, I didn't try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. 2 I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did—Jesus crucified.Luke 7:33-34 (NKJV) “For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.' 34 “The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Is Jesus a friend of sinners? 1. Levi, a tax collector. Luke 5:27-28 (NLT) Later, as Jesus left the town, he saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his tax collector's booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. 28 So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him.He is now known as Matthew = Yahweh's gift He became one of the 12 disciples. He wrote one of the gospels, Matthew.Luke 5:29 Later, Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi's fellow tax collectors and other guests also ate with them. When you meet Jesus you want to tell people!Matthew experienced and believed Jesus was a friend to sinners.2. Judas. The betrayer of JesusMatthew 26:49 (NKJV) Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Judas learned too late that Jesus was a friend to sinners.3. MeJesus befriended me when I was at my worst.Paul deals with the subject of how we are supposed to treat sinners.1 Corinthians 5:9-11 (NLT) When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin. 10 But I wasn't talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that. 11 I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don't even eat with such people. So we are called to be friends of sinners but not compromise. We want to be friends to sinners so that that they may be transformed and restored back to God. Proverbs 11:30 (KJV) The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life; and he that winneth souls [is] wise.Daniel 12:3 (NLT) Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.John 4…Jesus shows us the process. The story of the woman at the well.3 Things we can do to Reach Sinners John 4:3 (NKJV) He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4 And He must needs go through Samaria. He prayed and was led to go to Samaria.1. Pray and go where you're led.John 5:19 (NLT) So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.We can't be led by peoples needs.Jesus was led to the right person.Pray! Ask God where and to who he wants you to go.2. Make friends John 4:13-15 EXB Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give will never be thirsty. The water I give will become a spring of water gushing up inside that person, giving eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so I will never be thirsty again and will not have to come back here to get more water.” We are called to love people into the kingdom. 3. Look for an opening to go in for the killThe Holy Spirit will give you wisdom and empower you supernaturally if you will step out. This woman was transformed and the whole city heard her story. There is nothing like winning someone to Christ! So, what did Jesus do when he encountered sinners? He befriended them.He loved them.He ate with them.He related to them (built relational equity.)He corrected them from a heart of love. He saved them!1 Timothy 1:15 (NLT) This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save  sinners”--and I am the worst of them all.

DVD with Niyi Adekunle Monday 16th August The reality of the life in Christ 1 This week we would be talking about the reality of the Life in Christ. Friends, Zoe- the Life in Christ is real and tangible. When you look at the life of Jesus we can see how unique an abnormal his life was. His life was abnormal in the sense that it was out of the normal. His life was so out of the normal that we could see strange happenings before he was born. Angels came to announce his birth, wise men came from the east looking for him, shepherds had a supernatural encounter with angels, singing and informing them about his birth. His mother began to ponder in her mind what manner of child this was. As though it wasn't enough, at age 12 Jesus was found debating with doctors of the law about the scriptures. He had the ability two reason at the same level with doctors of the law. This guy was loaded! when he began his ministry, he was healing the sick, raising the dead, performing all sorts of mind-blowing miracles. He walked on water, and his disciples saw him calm the troubled storm by his words. Nicodemus affirmed that nobody had ever seen anything like that before. When Jesus was crucified, the Centurion who witnessed his death said "truly this man is the son of God". When he was buried, he rose from the dead on the third day. His Resurrection was so unbelievable, that the apostles could not just understand what kind of man Jesus was. This 33 year-old-man wasn't a normal person . Friends the life of God makes us "abnormal", because the life we have is from above, we are expected of God to live above normal lives John 3:7-8 (MSG) You know well enough how the wind blows this way and that. You hear it rustling through the trees, but you have no idea where it comes from or where it's headed next. That's the way it is with everyone ‘born from above' by the wind of God, the Spirit of God.” This scripture perfectly captures the way the life of everyone who is a Believer should be like. Our lives should be unpredictable, because we are born by the Spirit and our lives should be beyond human explanation. We should be taking advantage of this life in christ, but we are deficient in the knowledge of it. This is the reality of the life in christ and it should be our new normal. My Prayer is that as we understand this life, talk about it, and mediate on it, we would begin to leave in the practical reality of this life in Jesus name. God bless you, enjoy your week.

John 2:1-11 ESV // 1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. Jesus replaces shame with joy. Jesus uses the available and the obedient. Matthew 5:3 MSG // You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. Jesus meets our lack with His abundance. John 10:10 ESV // The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. Jesus often invites us to participate in our own transformation.

Episode Summary: In this episode, we’re talking about how to find hope when things aren’t always as they seem. My guest, Lori Boruff, has been at the place where she felt hopeless, but then found the true source of hope, and has learned that even when life is difficult, things aren’t always as they seem. Quotables from the episode: I know hope because I’ve known what it was to be hopeless. Sometimes hope isn’t really lost, it just gets buried under the emotional rubble. We often think our way is best, but God’s way is blessed. Scripture References: Romans 15:13 NIV “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Colossians 1:21-22 MSG “You yourselves are a case study of what he does. At one time you all had your backs turned to God, thinking rebellious thoughts of him, giving him trouble every chance you got. (22) But now, by giving himself completely at the cross, actually dying for you, Christ brought you over to God’s side and put your lives together, whole and holy in his presence. You don’t walk away from a gift like that!” Recommended Resources: Hope In The Ruins – A Rescue and Recovery Plan For Hearts In Crisis by Lori Boruff Cell 121: Learning To Never Give Up on Yourself or Your Loved Ones in the Toughest Moments of Life by Rusty Boruff Free Download: How To Fight Fearful/Anxious Thoughts and Win Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety’s Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety’s Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award Social Media Links for Guest and Host: Website Lori Boruff / Website OneEighty / Facebook Lori Boruff For more hope, stay connected with Dr. Bengtson at: Order Book Breaking Anxiety’s Grip / Order Book Hope Prevails  /  Website  /  Blog  /  Facebook / Twitter (@DrMBengtson)  /  LinkedIn  /  Instagram / Pinterest / YouTube / Podcast About Lori Boruff: Lori Boruff knows the power of hope because she experiences it. Un$trapped: Biblical Wisdom on MoneyPart 1: Who is First?Matthew 6:24 (MSG) – “You can't worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you'll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can't worship God and Money both.Matthew 6:21 (NIV) – For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The First is Given by Faith on the FirstTHE FIRST…Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV) – Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.Leviticus 27:30 (NLT) – One-tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy.Malachi 3:8-10 (NIV) – “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?' “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.THE FIRST IS GIVEN BY FAITH…Genesis 4:2b-3 (NIV) – Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering.Genesis 4:4-5a (NIV) – And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor…Hebrews 11:4 (NIV) – By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings….Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) – And without faith it is impossible to please God…THE FIRST IS GIVEN BY FAITH ON THE FIRST1 Corinthians 16:2 (NLT) – On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don't wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once.Mark's Tithing StoryDue to poor decisions I had made, I had been at a point in my life where I did not have any extra money, and at times had to decide which bill I was going to pay and which one could maybe slip a little. I was using credit cards to pay bills, creating a wheel that kept on spinning into frustration and despair financially. I was a financial mess (which affected other areas of my life as well).I was giving to church, but not tithing. I gave a little each time I went, but it was out of what I had leftover, after making decisions on what to pay. It was never very much. The church I was attending began a challenge. The challenge was to tithe (yes, a full 10% of a person's income) for 90 days. Their challenge was that if a person's life did not change for the better within that 90 days, the church would give that money back. The numbers regarding my income and bills did not support doing this. I did not have enough money coming in to pay my bills. How could I possibly give away 10% on top of that. However, after thinking about it a lot, and praying for guidance (admittedly, my faith was not very strong then), I decided to give it a try. I had no intention of asking for my money back after the 90 days if things did not show improvement, but that option was there.I made it through the 90 days of tithing and made all of my financial obligations. I made changes in spending. I was able to earn a little more at work through assignments. My attitude changed, this time for the better. That was a turning point in my life…Now, my tithe to church (based upon my gross income, not my net income) is typically the first “payment” I make each month. Anything else I give is above and beyond the tithe. And I am blessed beyond measure….We are debt free again, and it is a freedom unlike any other. It opens so many doors and opportunities to give. God blesses the giver. My blessings have come in so many ways; from getting a grasp on anxiety, depression, anger, and PTSD issues to simply becoming more aware of the everyday sightings and hearings from God.

(Matthew 5:21-25 MSG) “You’re familiar with the command to the ancients, ‘Do not murder.’ I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother ‘idiot!’ and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell ‘stupid!’ at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill. “This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God. “Or say you’re out on the street and an old enemy accosts you. Don’t lose a minute. Make the first move; make things right with him. Jesus was crystal clear that His followers must live by a higher standard … His standard. His teaching always pointed to the importance of the intent of our hearts. Anger, verbal insults, careless words, and grudges all come from a troubled heart. But the real point isn’t even about holding a standard, but rather what is right for us to live in peace and righteousness, the best thing for us and everyone in our circles. As you heard Jesus’s words, did anyone’s face pop into your mind? Did these verses trigger an instance in your memory? Listen again to some of the key phrases in this passage: “The simple moral fact is that words kill.” … “This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Make the first move; make things right.” Let’s pray: “Father, thank You that You hold us to a standard, yet You have made provision by Your grace and mercy when we fail. Please forgive my words that have killed, do kill, and can kill. Teach me to make the first move to make things right. To let go and give both my hurts and my sin to You. As above, so below.”

(1 Corinthians 9:24-27 MSG) You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself. Paul used runners in a race as a metaphor for the Christian life. Notice he never mentioned the prospect of losing, only what must be done to win. A major mental and emotional dynamic of serious athletes is to constantly envision winning. For you to set and attain your goals in life, try to take losing off the table. Run to win. Train hard. Give it everything you’ve got. Stay alert. Envision winning. Why? Because we tend fulfill the personal prophesies that we create in our minds. Listen again to Paul’s inspirational speech: Everyone runs; one wins. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27 MSG) What do you need to let go of, or what do you need to start doing to race like you never have before? Declare these words from the scripture with me: I run to win. I’m after a gold medal that never tarnishes and fades. I will give it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I will stay alert and in top condition. (from 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 MSG) Let’s pray together: “Father, I desire to win any and everything that You intend for me to win in life. Teach me to think Your thoughts and live as one who desires to win and cross Your finish line. As above, so below.”

We talk the things of God We live the things of God We see the things of God We share the things of God Let me ask you: Where is your focus? What are you aiming at? What do you want to achieve? The answers to these questions will determine how serious you are about where you are going and growing in your relationship with Jesus Where you focus your attention, you create strength and momentum. Proverbs 4:25-27 (Amp) - Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.  *Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and *ordered aright.  Turn not aside to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil. *You go where you focus *Set your minds and keep them set The first law of success… is concentration to bend all the energies to one point[seeking first His Kingdom], and to go directly to that point, looking neither to the right nor to the left.  William Mathews Jesus said Matthew 6:33 “seek first…focus first” Ephesians 1:18 (Msg) - Your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is He is calling you to do; grasp the immensity[ontsaglike] of this glorious way of life He has for Christians. What truly astonishes me is the aimlessness of so many believing, professing Christians. There is really no determination, passion and willingness to press into focus on growth or to change. The 1st rule of focus is this: “Wherever you are, be there.” Be in touch, be in tune, be relevant, be in focus. Don’t be a present absentee. Focus suggests a point at which an image becomes clear. Jesus’ life is the focus point! Like those magazines that had that centre page with lots of lines squiggles and colours but if you looked at it long enough an image would appear. It’s a matter of clear focus. Mark 8:27 (NIV) - Jesus asks, “Who do people say I AM?”  They said, John the Baptist, Elijah, one of the prophets. Then Jesus asked a ‘focus question’. Mark 8:29 (NIV) - “But what about YOU?”  He asked.  “Who do YOU say I AM?” The answer to this question makes you either a true disciple or just a modern day Christian. Christian by name only. Your focus on Jesus will determine not only your values and lifestyle but your eternal destiny as well. A focused disciple knows this and therefore lives, acts and speaks differently. Here what a Genuine Focused disciple is like: God made you different, not indifferent. God made you extra-ordinary, not ordinary. God mad you significant, not insignificant. God made you competent, not incompetent. God made you effective, not defective. God made you efficient, not inefficient. God made you superior, not inferior. God made you responsible, not irresponsible. God made you an original, not a copy. The power of a focused life will prevent you from becoming double-minded.  Focus helps us make the right choices. Being bitter vs being Lukewarmness vs Give up vs get up. – He who falls down 7 gets up 8 Coping with evil vs overcoming Complaining vs Trying vs Peace vs strife. (Blessed are the peacemakers) Determination vs discouragement. Priorities vs aimlessness. More of God vs more of everything else. If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results. Disciples with focus succeed because they know where they are going – It’s as simple as that. 2 Timothy 2:4 (Amp) - No soldier, when in service, gets entangled in the enterprises of civilian life;  his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him. It began in Galilee after John preached a total life-change. Then Jesus arrived from Nazareth, anointed by God with the Holy Spirit, ready for action. He went through the country helping people and healing everyone who was beaten down by the Devil. He was able to do all this because God was with him. - John 14:12-14 (TPT) - “I tell you this timeless truth: The person who follows me in faith, believing in me, will do the same mighty miracles that I do—even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father! 13 For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to him. 14 Ask me anything in my name, and I will do it for you!” -Hebrews 11:6 (TPT) - And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him. - Acts 8:6 (TPT) - The crowds were eager to receive Philip’s message and were persuaded by the many miracles and wonders he performed. - Acts 8:35 (TPT) - Philip started with this passage and shared with him the wonderful message of Jesus. You have to be willing to give up what you don't have. And that's hard to do. You have to be willing to let your guard down. As I watch the Final Four, now with Virginia and Texas Tech playing for the championship, the players' intensity increases as time decreases. We feel the same when time isn't on our side. The intensity of the matter at hand grows. The frustration or disappointment in ourselves. We want more, yet we are still guarded; holding back, running away. "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me." ~ John 15:4 REFLECTION: What can you give over to God? How can you hide His words in your heart? Where can you go to be in His presence? Why are you waiting? Be present in His presence. Matthew 5:8 MSG “You're blessed when you get your inside world-your mind and heart- put right. Then you can see God in the outside world”. Just because you are highly favored, wonderfully made and God's beloved does not mean that you won't have days that blow chunks of hot tartar sauce. When we crazy stuff is happening, we are sometimes quick to say, “God is punishing me, or God is trying to get me back”. No baby His ways are not our ways and if something crazy is happening it is probably just another test; you know a pop quiz from God. Pass the test boo so you can qualify for the promotion. Learn to look forward to passing the tests because they are always followed by promotion. Let me give you my test taking tips to passing tests. Start from a posture of peace. Gather yourself, before you go off. Then open your mouth and remind yourself of how good God has been to you in the past. My granny once told me that if God did it once He will do it again. So you are feeling low, stressed, defeated, pressured, or maybe you are just plain pissed the heck off…. Stop and open your mouth and tell yourself about the time God helped you, saved you, blessed you, covered you, fed you, clothed you, healed you, loved you, right there in the face of the enemy. Remind yourself how God made a way just for you, out of nowhere, time and time and time again. Learn to encourage yourself, and then after you have thanked God for all that, ask Him about the trouble, I mean the test. Once you can get your heart and mind lined up with your spirit, you can then see God's hand leading you to the answers for that pop quiz. This is Tris no H reminding you that All is Well, so encourage yourself. Remember love is a verb. Oh yeah by the way, if God was trying to get you…… baby you would have already been got! Peace

Psalm 139 (MSG) Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit?     to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there!     If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings     to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute—     you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark!     At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you;     night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you. Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;     you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!     Body and soul, I am marvelously made!     I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out,     you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,     how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;     all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared     before I’d even lived one day.   Psalm 91 (MSG) You who sit down in the High God’s presence,     spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, Say this: “God, you’re my refuge.     I trust in you and I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps,     shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you—     under them you’re perfectly safe;     his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,     not flying arrows in the day, Not disease that prowls through the darkness,     not disaster that erupts at high noon.

At one time you all had your backs turned to God, thinking rebellious thoughts of him, giving him trouble every chance you got. But now, by giving himself completely at the Cross, actually dying for you, Christ brought you over to God's side and put your lives together, whole and holy in his presence. You don't walk away from a gift like that! You stay grounded and steady in that bond of trust, constantly tuned in to the Message, careful not to be distracted or diverted. There is no other Message-just this one. Every creature under heaven gets this same Message. Proverbs 4:20-22 (MSG) Dear friend, listen well to my words; tune your ears to ‘my voice. Keep my message in plain view at all times. Concentrate! Learn it by heart! Those who discover these words live, really live; body and soul, they're bursting with health. 箴言 4章20-22節(CUV) 我兒、要留心聽我的言詞、側耳聽我的話語.都不可離你的眼目.要存記在你心中。因為得著他的、就得了生命、又得了醫全體的良藥。 God’s warning against listening to the wrong voices. 神提醒不要聽錯誤的聲音 Psalm 1:1-2 ( NIV) Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 詩篇 1章1-2節 (CUV) 不從惡人的計謀、不站罪人的道路、不坐褻慢人的座位、惟喜愛耶和華的律法、晝夜思想、這人便為有福。 Isaiah 8:19-22 (MSG) When people tell you, "Try out the fortune tellers. Consult the spiritualists. Why not tap into the spirit-world, get in touch with the dead?" Tell them, "No, we're going to study the Scriptures." People who try the other ways get nowhere-a dead end! Frustrated and famished, they try one thing after another. When nothing works out they get angry, cursing first this god and then that one, Looking this way and that, up, down, and sideways-and seeing nothing, A blank wall, an empty hole. They end up in the dark with nothing. How can I know the difference between these voices? 我怎樣能分別不同的聲音? Their character. 他們的特徵 John 10:10 (MSG) A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. 約翰福音 10章10節 (CUV) 盜賊來、無非要偷竊、殺害、毀壞.我來了、是要叫羊〔或作人〕得生命、並且得的更豐盛。 Psalm 36:1-2 (MSG) The God-rebel tunes in to sedition- all ears, eager to sin. He has no regard for God, he stands insolent before him. He has smooth-talked himself into believing That his evil will never be noticed. 詩篇 36章1-2節 (CUV) 惡人的罪過、在他心裏說、我眼中不怕 神。他自誇自媚、以為他的罪孽終不顯露、不被恨惡。 What I'm tuned into affects every area of my life. 我所聽到的會影響我生命的每一部份 Colossians 3:15-17 (MSG) Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ-the Message-have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives-words, actions, whatever-be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Stop letting the world mold and shape you. 1 John 2:17 NIV The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. James 4:4 MSG You’re cheating on God. Allowing him (Satan) to fill your mind with all the so-called beautiful things. He can't provide you anyway.   As a result,  you end up cheating on your Main Man, number one Lover, Jesus. Sister, you can't have two men.  You will love one and hate the other. Someone is going to get more attention, leaving one to be jealous. If you cheat too long, you end up with serving divorce paper to the Good Man, Jesus. Our bite in Romans instructs us to renew the mind. Change the way you think. Focusing on Godly values and attitudes. Transforming comes with spiritual growth. You will be able to know for yourself God’s will is for your life. His will is good, pleasing and perfect. When you change the way you think that you will be able to discern what God is saying. If you are in the same old pattern, habits, same people, and same thinking don't be mad at God when your circumstances still the same. He tells us that we have to renew our minds and be transformed. When we want a to get fit, for a new nice body. We begin to change your eating habits, and maybe even workout.  After implementing those changes that you see your body transforming. The same is true for our spiritual growth. When we want to get close with God, we have to implement some changes but from the inside. Checking your heart, praying, and reading His Word. Transformation comes with spiritual growth.     The Digest Are you still flirting with this messy, painful world? Are you still believing the lies Satan whispering in your ear?  HUSTLE & HEART,  WILL SET APART  CHAMPIONS LEAVE IT ON THE FIELLD! Romans 8:36-38 Common English Bible (CEB) 37 But in all these things we win a sweeping victory through the one who loved us.  INTRO: WATCHING SPORTS -  I don’t know how many times I’ve been watching sports with the love of my life Annette; whether it’s was baseball or football  and the game was supposed to be exciting with the anticipation of who’s going to win and I don’t know how many times I’ve heard Annette say "they don’t want it, they’re not hungry, what are they doing get in the game!" why because she felt they were putting their Heart & Soul into it, they were play their best! What will set the greats apart from the rest? The champions will pul there all and  leave it on the field, weather it’s in the boxing ring or on the field. Today we also have a mandate to give it all to God, to Live and Serve Him, His Purpose, His Mission and to do it with all our heart, strength and mind.  Today what sets us apart as more than conquerors in Christ is that we put our heart and soul into it, that what sets us apart from the rest! Scriptures on sports to win: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NLT - “Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 MSG “You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally.  26,27 - I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.”   Scripture on Discipline for the sports: 1 Timothy 4:7-10 CSB. “But have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness. For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance. For this reason we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.”

Creation is Born. God spoke, and it was. From the beginning of time, God had a plan. Life was born, and life was in God’s image. However, from the Garden we immediately see the need for Christ. The Garden is a foreshadowing of Jesus. Creation is Born Born | Week 1 November 27, 2016 | Joe Scruggs Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface. God Initiated Creation Planful Process It was very good. Genesis 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning and it was the sixth day. Genesis 3:1-7 (NLT) 1 Now the serpent was the shrewdest of all the creatures the Lord God had made. “Really?”, he asked the woman. “Did God really say you must not eat any of the fruit in the garden?” 2 ”Of course we may eat it,” the woman told him. 3 ”It’s only the fruit from the tree at the center of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God says we must not eat it or even touch it, or we will die.” 4 ”You won’t die!” the serpent hissed. 5 ”God knows that your eyes will be opened when you eat it. You will become just like God, knowing everything, both good and evil.” 6 The woman was convinced. The fruit looked so fresh and delicious, and it would make her so wise! So she ate some of the fruit. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her. Then he at it, too. 7 At that moment, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they strung fig leaves together around their hips to cover themselves. A choice was made and we repeat the same choice every day. Much of our activity is nothing more than a cheap anesthetic to deaden the pain of an empty life. Romans 8:22 (NIV) We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Romans 5:12 (MSG) You know the story of how Adam landed us in the dilemma we’re in—first sin, then death, and no one exempt from either sin or death. That sin disturbed relations with God in everything and everyone, Hope and deliverance are possible.

Christmas Eve Message Title: “All is Bright” In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. Luke 2:1-7 (NIV) So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. Luke 2:1-7 (NIV) While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:1-7 (NIV) Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12 (NLT) Light only works in the darkness. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 1:1-5 (NIV) In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5 (NIV) It wasn't so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin. You let the world, which doesn't know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. Ephesians 2:1-6 (MSG) You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience. We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, when we felt like doing it, all of us in the same boat. Ephesians 2:1-6 (MSG) It's a wonder God didn't lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Ephesians 2:1-6 (MSG) Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, he embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. Ephesians 2:1-6 (MSG) If you've never seen light… the darkness seems normal. There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 14:12 (NIV) For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Ephesians 5:8-14 (NLT) Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. Ephesians 5:8-14 (NLT) But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said… Ephesians 5:8-14 (NLT) “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light. Ephesians 5:8-14 (NLT) Light revels what you can't see. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine... Isaiah 9:2-7 (NLT) For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor's rod… The boots of the warrior and the uniforms bloodstained by war will all be burned. They will be fuel for the fire. Isaiah 9:2-7 (NLT) For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:2-7 (NLT) His government and its peace will never end. Isaiah 9:2-7 (NLT) “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” - C. S. Lewis

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV) Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV) Freedom Church exists to lead people into a NEW LIFE of freedom in JESUS. Message Title: “Crossing Over” Immediately after this… Matthew 14:22 (NLT) Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. Matthew 14:22 (NLT) Calling Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Ephesians 4:1-16 (NLT) However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ… Ephesians 4:1-16 (NLT) Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:1-16 (NLT) This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Ephesians 4:1-16 (NLT) Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching… Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:1-16 (NLT) He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:1-16 (NLT) Your calling will always be connected to the body of Christ… the Church. You didn't SIGN UP… you followed a CALL. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Matthew 14:23-24 (NLT) Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. Matthew 14:23-24 (NLT) Commitment When we know JESUS has called us… we can trust HIM even when the path doesn't make sense. Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. James 1:2-4 (MSG) You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. James 1:2-4 (MSG) Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. James 1:2-4 (MSG) What God wants to do through you, will always begin with what He wants to lead you through. About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It's a ghost!” Matthew 14:25-27 (NLT) But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don't be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Matthew 14:25-27 (NLT) Confidence Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. Matthew 14:28-29 (NLT) So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. Matthew 14:28-29 (NLT) Commitment to the calling… will always breed confidence. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Matthew 14:30-33 (NLT) Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” Matthew 14:30-33 (NLT) When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. Matthew 14:30-33 (NLT) Clarity  “It's time to step out of the boat into a place of uncertainty… because your uncertainty is the only place I move!” After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. When the people recognized Jesus, the news of his arrival spread quickly throughout the whole area, and soon people were bringing all their sick to be healed. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed. Matthew 14:34-36 (NLT) But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT) “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT) “For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours because you are precious to me.  You are honored, and I love you. Do not be afraid, for I am with you…” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT) “You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God— there never has been, and there never will be.” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT) “I, yes I, am the Lord, and there is no other Savior… From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done…” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT) “I am the Lord, your Holy One, Israel's Creator and King. I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea.” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT) “I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick.” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT) “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new.  See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness.  I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” Isaiah 43:1-19 (NLT)

Title: Living a Godly Life   (2 Peter 1:1-2) (NLT) This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior. May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.   (2 Peter 1:3) (NIV) His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.   (2 Peter 1:4) (NIV) Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.   8 Qualities of a Godly Life   1. Faith   (Hebrews 11:1) (NLT) Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.   2. Virtue   (2 Peter 1:5) (NKJV) But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue,   (John 5:39-40)(MSG) “You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you'll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren't willing to receive from me the life you say you want.   (2 Peter 1:5) (NKJV) …to virtue knowledge,   3. Knowledge   (Psalm 119:66)(NLT) I believe in your commands; now teach me good judgment and knowledge.   (Proverbs 1:22) (NLT) “How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge?   (2 Peter 1:6) (NKJV) to knowledge self-control,   4. Self-Control   Self-Control: Increasing your ability to tell your sinful nature no.   (Proverbs 25:28) (MSG) A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out.     (2 Peter 1:6) (NKJV) …to self-control perseverance,   5. Perseverance   Perseverance: Steady persistence in your faith in spite of difficulties.   The highway to a godly life is called perseverance.    (1 Timothy 6:11) (NLT) But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.   6. Godliness   (2 Peter 1:6) (NKJV) …to perseverance godliness,   (Proverbs 13:6) (MSG) A God-loyal life keeps you on track; sin dumps the wicked in the ditch.   7. Brotherly Kindness   (2 Peter 1:7) (NKJV) …to godliness brotherly kindness   (Hebrews 10:24-25) (NCV)  Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds. You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing, but you should meet together and encourage each other.   (2 Peter 1:8) (NKJV) …and to brotherly kindness love.   8. Love   (2 Peter 1:8) (NIV) For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.   (2 Peter 1:9) (NIV) But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.   (2 Peter 1:10) (NIV) Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Title to message:  Loving the Unlovable (Isaiah 1:18) (NLT) “Come now, let's settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. If you will only obey me The Unlovable: 1.    Often use sedation to hide their frustration. 2.    Often use laughter to hide their loneliness. 3.    Often use intimidation to hide their insecurity.   (Matthew 5:47) (MSG) “If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that.” (Matthew 5:9) (MSG) You're blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That's when you discover who you really are, and your place in God's family. How to Love the Unlovable: 1.    Give them the benefit of the doubt. (Philippians 3:4)(NIV) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 2.    Speak well of them to others.  (Matthew 7: 1) (MSG) Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. (Ephesians 5:3-4) (MSG) Don't allow love to turn into lust, setting off a downhill slide into sexual promiscuity, filthy practices, or bullying greed. Though some tongues just love the taste of gossip, those who follow Jesus have better uses for language than that. Don't talk dirty or silly. That kind of talk doesn't fit our style. Thanksgiving is our dialect. 3.    Hope for their change of heart. (2 Timothy 2:22-26) (MSG) Refuse to get involved in inane discussions; they always end up in fights. God's servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the Devil's trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.   (Luke 2:8-10) “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.'”

Don't miss this compelling look at the very first relational story in the Bible. Within this incredible story lies absolutes that define how we read and interpret the rest of the Bible but most importantly how we live as followers of Jesus. Title of message:  Religion vs. Christianity  (Genesis 2:9) (NLT) The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  (Genesis 2:16) (NLT) But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—  (Genesis 2:17) (NLT) except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”  (Genesis 3:1) (NIV) Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?” (Genesis 3:2-3) (NIV) The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'” (Genesis 3:4-5) (NIV) “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:6) (NIV) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.   The gospel is: The transformation on the inside of you that causes a change of behavior on the outside of you.   Characteristics of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: 1.    Victimization 2.    Shame  (Romans 8:1) (NIV) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus   Characteristics of The Tree of Life:             1.    Innocence  (Matthew 18:3) (NIV) And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.             2.    Freedom (Galatians 1:6) (NLT) I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News (Galatians 6:10) (NIV) Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.   Religion vs. Christianity: 1. Religion is spelled DO.       Christianity is spelled DONE.  (John 5:39) (MSG) You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you'll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren't willing to receive from me the life you say you want.   2. Religion is man's attempt to reach God. Christianity is God's attempt to reach man.  (Romans 5:8) (NLT) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.   3. Religion focuses on the external (Matthew 23:26) (NLT) You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too.             Christianity focuses on the internal  (1 Samuel 16:7) (NIV) The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever.  (Hebrews 12:3) (MSG) When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!  Fear and insecurity are two pieces of evidence that I do not have my eyes focused on Jesus! – Perry Noble  (Job 3:23) (MSG) “What's the point of life when it doesn't make sense, when God blocks all the roads to meaning?”  Until I get to heaven, there are some things I will never understand.  Title of Message:  In My life  How to survive a fire in my life:  1.    STOP thinking earthly thoughts.  START thinking eternal.  (Job 42:2) (NLT) “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. “You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?' It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.  (Isaiah 55:8-9)(CEB) “My plans aren't your plans, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my plans than your plans. 2.    DROP the Reigns of Control.   (Proverbs 3:5-6) (NLT) Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Psalm 32:8) (NLT) The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. PICK UP the promises of God. (Jeremiah 29:11) (NLT) For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Proverbs 19:21) (NIV84) Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. 3. ROLL up your sleeves. Go Forward in Faith. (Ephesians 6:11) (NLT) Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. (Ephesians 6:14) (NLT) Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness. (Ephesians 6:15) (NLT)  For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. (Ephesians 6:16) (NLT) In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. (Ephesians 6:17) (NLT) Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Random acts of greatness pale in comparison to habitual acts of faithfulness. (James 5:11) (MSG) “Youʼve heard, of course, of Jobʼs staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That's because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.”

Title of Message:  To give me life.   (John 6:51) (NLT) I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”   (Proverbs 16:25) There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.   (2 Corinthians 5:17) “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”   (Proverbs 16:25) There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.   The Death Trap 3 Levels of Death Trap   Level 1: Drifting   (Hebrews 11:24-25) (ASB) By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to share ill treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;   (Luke 21:34) “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.”   Level 2: Deception    (John 5:39) (MSG) You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you'll find eternal life there.  But you miss the forest for the trees.  These Scriptures are all about me!  And here I am, standing right before you and you aren't willing to receive from me the life you say you want.   (Revelation 3:1-2) “I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.” Level 3: Dying (2 Corinthians 1:8-9) “We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death.” How do I avoid the death trap?   Avoid the death trap by:   1. Renewing your vision for life. (Philippians 3:13-14) “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” 2. Making a decision to live. (Deuteronomy 30:19) “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”   (John 16:33) (NLT) Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” 3. Exposing the enemies of life. (Hebrews 12:1) “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” 4. Protecting life with accountability.   (Ecclesiastes 4:8-9) “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!” 5. Sustaining life by living for God. (Romans 8:13-14) “For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,   (1 Corinthians 15:55) (NLT) “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”   (1 Corinthians 15:57) (NLT) But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud, “I call to you, to all of you! I raise my voice to all people. You simple people, use good judgment. Keep your distance from such a woman; absolutely stay out of her neighborhood.    (Proverbs 5:7-14) (MSG) You don't want to squander your wonderful life, to waste your precious life among the hardhearted. Why should you allow strangers to take advantage of you?  Why be exploited by those who care nothing for you?   (Proverbs 5:7-14) (MSG) You don't want to end your life full of regrets, nothing but sin and bones, Saying, "Oh, why didn't I do what they told me? Why did I reject a disciplined life? Why didn't I listen to my mentors, or take my teachers seriously? My life is ruined! I haven't one blessed thing to show for my life!"   Sin grows in the dark.  Sin dies in the light.    (Daniel 11:35) And some of the wise will fall victim to persecution. In this way, they will be refined and cleansed and made pure until the time of the end, for the appointed time is still to come.   (Proverbs 5:15-17)  Drink water from your own well—share your love only with your wife. Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone? You should reserve it for yourselves. Never share it with strangers.   (Proverbs 5:18-20) Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a loving deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love. Why be captivated, my son, by an immoral woman, or fondle the breasts of a promiscuous woman? What captivates you?    How to affair proof your marriage:   1.    Pray together 2.    Date each other 3.    Talk openly about sexual temptations 4.    Stay accountable 5.    Praise one another   (Proverbs 8:32-33) (NLT) “And so, my children, listen to me, for all who follow my ways are joyful. Listen to my instruction and be wise. Don't ignore it. (Proverbs 8:34-36) (NLT) Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home! For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord. But those who miss me injure themselves. All who hate me love death.”

(Revelation 1:18) (NLT) “I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”   (Revelation 3:1) “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.   (Revelation 3:2) Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.   (Revelation 3:3) Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.”   Title of Message: Live Again   The Causes of Spiritual Death: 1. Unrelenting trial and temptation.   (Psalm 143:3-6) “The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in darkness like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed.”   2. Attacks from others.   (Psalm 109:3) “With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause.”   3. Personal tragedy.   (Psalm 61:2) “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to a rock that is higher than I.”   4. Guilt and shame.   (Psalm 38:4-5) (NLT) My guilt overwhelms me—it is a burden too heavy to bear. My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins. (Psalm 38:6-7) (NLT) I am bent over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with grief. A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken. (Psalm 38:8) (NLT) I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart.   (John 5:39) (MSG) You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you'll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren't willing to receive from me the life you say you want.   (Revelation 22:17) “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!' And let him who hears say, ‘Come!' Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.”   How do you live again?    1. Respond to the invitation.   (Isaiah 55:1-2 NLT) “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it's all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.”   2. Renew your relationship with God.   (Isaiah 55:3 NLT) “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.”   3. Repent of everything that is in the way.   (Isaiah 55:6-7 NLT) “Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.”

The title of Message: The Chase to The End.   (2 Chronicles 16:9) “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”   (Galatians 5:7) “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?”   (Revelation 1:3) “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”   7 principals of chasing to the end. 1.  Chase with your first love (Revelation 2:4-5) …“You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.”   2.  Chase with faithfulness   (John 16:33) “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” 3.  Chase with a Balance   (Revelations 2:14-15) “…You have people there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and by committing sexual immorality. Likewise you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.”   4.  Chase without Immorality   (Revelations 2:20)  “Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.” (2 Timothy 4:3-5) (MSG) “You're going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food—catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They'll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages. But you—keep your eye on what you're doing; accept the hard times along with the good; keep the Message alive; do a thorough job as God's servant.”   5.  Chase with Zeal   (Revelations 3:2) “Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.”   6.  Chase with respect toward the Word of God   (Revelations 3:8) “I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”   7.  Chase with repentance   (Revelations 3:15) “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!”   (Revelations 3:17-18) “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.”   (Revelations 3:19-20)  “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”

Title of Message: The Vow of Partnership     For more help in your marriage: help@freedom-church.org   Week 1:  I Vow that God will be my #1 PRIORITY and my spouse as #2. Week 2:  I Vow that I will always PURSUE my #2. Week 3:  I Vow that our marriage will be a PARTNERSHIP.   (Genesis 2:24) “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”   The Big Idea: Perspective determines behavior.   What's the difference? Contract is: an agreement based upon mutual distrust          Covenant is: an agreement based on mutual commitment      (Malachi 2:14) (MSG) “…You fill the place of worship with your whining and sniveling because you don't get what you want from God. Do you know why? Simple. Because God was there as a witness when you spoke your marriage vows to your young bride, and now you've broken those vows, broken the faith-bond with your vowed companion, your covenant wife.”    Three areas of making our marriage about We and not Me:   1. I am here to serve, not to be served (Matthew 20:28) “…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."   (Ephesians 5:21) “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ” 2. Combined effort rather than equal effort. (1 Corinthians 13: 4,5,7) (MSG)  “…  Love never gives up.  Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love doesn't strut, Doesn't have a swelled head, Doesn't force itself on others, Isn't always "me first," Doesn't fly off the handle, Doesn't keep score of the sins of others, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.”    (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10) (NLT) “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”    3. We are on the same team (Ephesians 5:28,29) “In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church”   The Characteristics of a Covenant Marriage:   1.    I am here to serve, and not to be served 2.    Combined effort rather than equal effort 3.    We are on the same team (1 Corinthians 13:13) (The Message) “Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly.”
