Christin Cardone McClave knows firsthand the complexities of leading and selling a multigenerational family business. Host Laurie Barkman talks with Christin about her journey of navigating leadership roles at her family's third-generation business, CARDONE Industries. During her tenure as Chief People Officer and COO, she helped the company reach an impressive $1B revenue milestone. In May 2019, she played a pivotal role in the successful sale of CARDONE Industries to a leading global private equity firm. With extensive experience spanning Johnson & Johnson, family governance, and business strategy, Christin offers actionable insights into the emotional and strategic aspects of selling a family business. This episode delves into her process, including overcoming challenges, embracing transitions, and building a fulfilling work-life outside of the family business. About Edwin Aristor Edwin Aristor is a multifaceted individual whose roles span from father and husband to sales professional and men's retreat facilitator.  Currently working with Praxis Labs, Edwin is part of the go-to-market team, focusing on promoting an immersive learning platform designed to build inclusive leadership skills. The Role of Curiosity in Sales Curiosity is a deep, authentic commitment to understanding prospects and clients.  Edwin emphasizes the importance of accepting surface-level answers and engaging in deep discovery to unpack layers of business challenges.  Tune in and hear why authentic listening and asking probing questions are cornerstones of effective sales strategies. Sales Vulnerabilities and Growth Edwin shares a story of one of his coworkers learning why vulnerability in sales is necessary. Hear why openness fosters a culture of continuous improvement at 6:08. Practical Tips for Cultivating Curiosity Edwin discusses several actionable sales techniques to foster curiosity: Role-Playing in Sales: Regular role-play exercises on non-business topics can enhance one's questioning skills, which later translates into better business conversations. Sales Training and Personal Development: Investing in personal development programs can significantly boost one's ability to engage deeply with clients. Listening to Recordings: Reviewing past sales calls to identify missed opportunities for deeper questions helps refine one's approach. Effective Communication and Team Development For sales leaders, Edwin suggests exercises encouraging sales teams to engage in conversations unrelated to their primary sales agendas.  This practice can improve the team's ability to perform deep discovery and navigate sales objections more effectively. “The day that she became vulnerable is the day that she became powerful.” - Edwin Aristor.  Resources Edwin Aristor on LinkedIn edwinaristor.com Sponsorship Offers This episode is brought to you in part by Hubspot. In the face of disruption brought about by COVID 19, businesses throughout the world are finding ways to adjust not only for the sake of themselves, but for the sake of their communities. One of those businesses is Blue Delta Jeans, a clothing manufacturer in North Mississippi that is known for their high-end, custom blue jeans. When the pandemic became a reality in the United States, it forced Blue Delta CEO Josh West and his team to ask the question, “What's next?" The answer has brought about a transformation of their operations as they have transitioned much of their focus from clothing production to the production of face masks for frontline healthcare workers.Josh joins us in today's episode of The Weight to discuss his company's experience, socially conscious entrepreneurship, and his thoughts on how businesses leaders can find innovative ways to work toward the common good.Resources:Learn more about Josh's company Blue Delta Jeans here: https://www.bluedeltajeans.com/In this article from late March, Mississippi Today chronicles Blue Delta's transition from jeans production to masks.https://msbusiness.com/2020/03/blue-delta-shifting-from-jeans-production-to-masks/For Christian leaders working in the church, non-profit, and for-profit sectors, we've been paying attention to the work of Praxis Labs which focuses on redemptive entrepreneurship. The team talks to Jon Hart, Partner at Praxis Labs about his work with Praxis Academy, a week-long on ramp into the Praxis community of redemptive entrepreneurs targeting the under 25. For 5 years, this organization has encouraged college-aged entrepreneurs to more actively view their aspirations within the context of their faith, impacting 750 people, from 160 universities and 20 countries. Reminiscent of and deeply influenced by the 18th century Clapham Group of England, Praxis seeks to encourage thought and action around changing culture by producing superior alternatives that are also redemptive in both for and non-profit arenas. Jon explains to us how Praxis Academy is adding to the sea of vocational “hero stories” that influence our career decisions, or using his term, “vocational imagination” that include a wholistic view of Christianity because it’s just missing. University business programs spin the stories of wild success and wealth as a natural part of its cultural lore but too often the Christian marketplace hero stories have been viewed as less compelling. Jon steps us through how Praxis Academy is righting that view with thought-provoking content that includes mentorship and community. He also shares with us a few of his favorite “hero stories” of academy alum. You don’t want to miss this episode! Redemptive entrepreneurship is an integral concept to us, here at Faith Driven Entrepreneur.
