A Story of Yoga and Love Troy was born in Trinidad & Tobago and has lived there for the majority of his life with the exceptions of attending the University Of Tampa, and his regular stints of travel and exploration. During his senior year at university, he participated in a study abroad program called Semester At Sea taking him to fifteen different countries and exposing him to a wealth of cultures and experiences. After graduating from university Troy traversed Costa Rica coast to coast on foot, has spent prolonged periods in silence, and has immersed himself in the study and practice of Yoga. With mindful, intentional movements Troy brings an intimate and powerful dimension to today's yoga class that helps bridge the gap between the pure essence of Yoga, and today's disconnected world. At the foundation of his teaching is not the breath, but one's relationship to the breath. He feels that it is essential we discover that no posture, no transition, no moment is ever the same; we discover what it means to live in the present moment—the only moment when we can know and feel Genuine Love.Troy's Website: https://troyhadeed.comTroy's Gifts: https://weidentifyaslove.com/?ref=MOIRASUTTON10% Coupon Code: MOIRASUTTON30 Day free trial @ www.beyondyogatv.com: https://beyond-yoga-online.namastream.com/product/6228/aboutFor the first 10 listeners a free e-book copy of my bookhttps://weidentifyaslove.com/products/my-name-is-love-by-troy-hadeed-ebook7 Days free on Gaia.com: https://www.gaia.com/lp/gaia-experience?utm_source=ambassador&oid=7&affid=1837Moira's Website: https://moirasutton.com/Create the Life you Love FB Community: https://www.facebook.com/CreatetheLifeyouLove1/Long Distance Healing: https://moirasutton.com/long-distance-reiki-healing-session/Support the Show.

From Sparks to Light - Inspiring Stories for Challenging Times
Elaine Leeder says she was always drawn to the dark side of life. As the daughter of a Holocaust refugee, she has spent the better part of her life trying to understand that darkness. The desire to make sense of that which seems so difficult led her on a journey into one of the darkest places in our society, our prison system. Elaine volunteers in a restorative justice program that offers both victims and offenders the opportunity to face one another, not as adversaries but as equals, to engage in conversations that have the potential to set them free. What she has learned through that work may surprise you. It is the topic of our conversation on the podcast this week. From inside the walls at some of California's most famous prisons, Elaine has worked with some of the most traumatized of individuals. Hurt people hurt people she reminds us. And yet it is in these conversations, through the power of restorative justice, that she has witnessed moments of profound transformation, for both the victim and those who have done the harm. Elaine Leeder is a Professor Emerita of Sociology and the Dean Emerita of the School of Social Sciences at Sonoma State University in California. Erin Hattamer grew up in a small town with a Roman Catholic upbringing. Couple that with the opportunity to perform in theater since 4th grade and you have all the ingredients of a successful comedian/writer/actor, right? Sort of. Erin is funny, but Erin is practical. And comedy is an unstable career. She attempted to find stability in other areas until an academic route to comedy presented itself. This added a seriousness to her craft, particularly while working on her creative non-fiction writing thesis about her eating disorder. Erin took a break stress and un-funness by viewing refrigerator organization videos on Tik Tok. On a whim, she posted a comedic sketch that earned over a 1 million views overnight on TikTok. Now, Erin is blazing a new path for an under 30 queer woman from Adam Sandler's home state managing mental health who is using her platform for funny, but also to let people from different communities know they're heard Oh, we deep dive into her Semester At Sea experience, the one I only got to see on MTV. #careerpodcast #blackwomenpodcast #lgbtq #comedy #tiktok #disorderedeating #mentalhealth TIK TOK Erin Hattamer INSTAGRAM @erinhatta --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wiseandwine/message

LifeBlood NURTURE: We talked about a semester at sea, how the program works, the potential lifelong benefits of participating in it, and how it's possible to take part even if you're not an undergraduate student! We discussed Scott's childhood experiences, how he got the opportunity to study abroad and the impact that had on his life, how he found his way from being a Professor to leading a study abroad company, and the role perspective plays in his life. We talked about the potential impacts that an experience seeing different countries and interacting with different people has on a young person, how it's a unique time to have experiences like this, and the profound impact it can have. We discussed the comparative nature of the program, how one gets to immerse themself in a new culture, then reflect, talk and learn from peers before getting to go and have a similar experience in a different part of the world, and to get to do this in a lot of different countries. We talked about how our current world is characterized by divisiveness and having the opportunity to meet and live with people from different cultures has the potential to change that for the better with Scott Marshall, President and CEO of Semester at Sea, a ship-based multi-country study abroad program for gap-year, undergraduate, grad students as well as families. Developing a global mindset is an important part of educating young people in our interconnected world. An essential part of this process is to travel and learn in different contexts. This is exactly what Semester at Sea does. University students spend a semester taking their courses on a ship while traveling to ten different countries on three continents. Their classes take on a new life as the courses are embedded in the context of the countries that they visit. My guest in this episode discusses how this program works and the impact it has on the students and their teachers. Scott Marshall is the President and CEO of the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE), a non-profit organization that administers the Semester at Sea study abroad program. With a background in business and education, Scott has experience in several aspects of this program and it's aim to develop global engagement. He also taught students on the ship prior to becoming CEO and is a passionate traveler, having visited more than 80 countries. Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, acclaimed photographer Phillip Van Nostrand has already led an extraordinary life. His background as an Evangelical Christian speaks to his passion for mentoring young people and a long-held belief that there is nothing more important than inspiring others to “live out their dreams.” He credits the program “Semester At Sea,” as a college student at UCSB for igniting his lifelong passion for travel and “Engage Summits” for introducing him to the world of luxury weddings and events. Much of our delightful conversation focuses on these glamorous and exciting twin passions. He has great expectations for 2021, but, thoughtfully, takes time to talk about “the gifts” he received during this past troubling year. With all my best wishes to you, Phil, and to my audience, here’s to a spectacular New Year! Stay safe, healthy and hopeful as we look ahead to the future. All my best, -Doug

"I feel like I've grown so much in these past five months that I'm still me, just a better version" — Corey Miller Exercise science major, Corey Miller couldn't decide where to study abroad so she decided to study abroad everywhere. Yes, that is an option, and it comes in the form a ship. That ship is called the M.V. Odyssey, and it comes in the form of a program known as Semester at Sea. You could honestly break this interview up into 11 parts, or at the very least least four different continents. Buckle up for this 30 minute adventure around the world, and don't forget your life jacket!
Julie Alagna gives a great interview discussing everything you need to do to sign up for and succeed in a Semester at Sea. There isn't another interview like this out there, I checked.
What is Elijah Wood's favorite music festival? "Make your life a story worth telling." Today I’ve got my good friend Adam Braun on the show, and I’m excited because I’ve been able to be a part of his story over the last 5 years of building his charity, Pencils of Promise. I met Adam through a mutual friend, Reid, and after a couple beers, we set off to what has become a synchronous business partnership. As we talk about later in the podcast, one thing I saw in him when we met was a mixture that is rare: a bleeding heart for the cause, and the amazing mind to build a business. He invited me to come to Laos to shoot and build branding imagery for the organization when he had built one school. Now fast forward 5 years and we just got back from Ghana together and celebrated the ground breaking of the 200th school. I feel so grateful to have been able to be a part of the movement. Adam’s new book called “The Promise of a Pencil” comes out this week. I’m excited about the release as it’s going to be an amazing one about finding your purpose, with 30 lessons and stories on how to do that. Not only is his story great, but if you find yourself in a place where you are searching for your purpose, it will be a great read. Adam really discovered his purpose after he was on the Semester at Sea boat that was hit by a 60 foot wave and they barely made it out alive. Now he sees living life with purpose as the most fulfilling way to live. I always describe Adam as the guy you talk to for 5 minutes and you want to go change the world. He’s a highly inspiring individual and is on a mission to create a new space at the intersect of the non-profit and for profit space he calls "For Purpose," which we talk a little bit about in the podcast. Get pumped to want to get off your butt and change the world! "The longer time that you spend being content, satisfied, and comfortable, the less exposure you have to self-discovery." Some things we learn in this podcast: The impact of growing up in Connecticut with a fascination for finance and wall street What it's like getting into the hedge fund game at 16 years old How working with Bain Capital helped mold his creative entrepreneurship How a life threatening Semester At Sea kickstarted a life of purpose Why meaning and purpose are core to success and a creative How to apply business skills to social enterprise The origins of Pencils of Promise To turn things we take for granted, like a birthday, and make an opportunity to change the world. Why an organization like Pencils of Promise can fuel a creative career even more than commercial shoots. Connect with Adam: Instagram | Twitter | Website | PoP
