This week we talked to Chaney of Texas-based pop-rock band House Parties. While she isn't making music she can be found in the lingerie section of the thrift store looking for the perfect piece to incorporate into her grunge Tumblr aesthetic. Inspired by Haley WIlliams of Paramore she dreamed of being a badass woman on stage and that is now exactly what she's doing. The most recent release ‘Side Effect' was the first under Equal Vision Records touching on things we feel that don't fall plainly into standard emotions. House Parties is going on tour with Games We Play this spring and is excited to hear the crowd shout stuff back at them, lyrics or otherwise. We're back after a long break to discuss a band that appears to be currently on break, which is breaking all of our hearts - PARAMORE. With every new season and new episodes, we have to look at weird ways to express ourselves, like being a hype DJ to present the most depressing songs possible, or ranting about B.o.B. being a flat-Earth conspiracy theorist. Either way, we're delighted to be back and discussing the dad-manager band known as Haley Williams and Support...er, I mean Paramore! Tune in and find out why. If you follow me on IG, you are probably aware that we are pulling out of our private Christian school and homeschooling after Christmas. It has been a journey and I wanted to share this mostly for my own sake to remember my WHY when it inevitably gets hard. Hard is not the same thing as bad! And there will also be so much good. But I know that it will not be an "easy" task by any means, and this conversation is the heart behind our decision as a couple to choose different for our kids' education. These are conviction issues and so the content in this episode is obviously conviction-level stuff - so don't be offended if your conviction is different! That's ok. This is a personal decision only a husabdn and wife can make with God. But I pray it will bolster and encourage other families who are in the same spot we are. In a world dominated by overnight internet sensations and one-hit-wonders, emerging artist Ainsley Costello has her eyes set on creating a legacy that stands the test of time. A power house voice in the vain of Haley Williams or Pink, Ainsley's lyrics can also be delicately delivered. Costello's heartfelt and personal approach to lyricism translates into an easily digestible and heartwarming listening experience. At only 15, the Seattle native (now based in Nashville) released a strikingly diverse debut album titled ‘You Know I Am' – on the surface, a collection of country pop songs, but dig deeper and you'll unravel a multitude of diverse musical influences and lyrics that speak to all of the insecurities of today's teenage girls. In February 2020, Ainsley and her family relocated to Nashville, just as the world and the music industry shut down due to the Pandemic. But that didn't stop Ainsley, throughout quarantine she used her time to write new material and connect with dozens of Nashville "row writers" to hone and perfect her craft. Creating a body of work that speaks volumes for her young age Ainsley already has a catalogue of nearly 200 unreleased, and 24 published works. In 2021 Ainsley released a song each month, the equivalent of her second studio album and in 2022 she has released 5 more songs.Ironically, after moving to Nashville (the country music capital of the world), Ainsley began to pivot away from the country music that had originally inspired her. Realizing that Nashville was more than just country music her creativity cracked open. Her newest songs clearly have a more pop-rock leaning vibe. While many reviewers still hear elements of country tones in her voice, paired with the edgier music, some have started to describe her music as "country-punk" or "pretty pop." Inspired by Paramore, Kings of Leon and Caitlyn Smith (all hailing from Nashville) you clearly hear a unique sound emerging in her 2022 works. With a strong sense for live instrumentation others have described her music as a strain of LA/POP from the 90's and early 2000's. Another reviewer described it as acoustic college rock with a modern twist. With a dedicated and growing following it is clear that Ainsley is set on creating a career that stands the test of time.Ainsley began performing in school talent shows and musical theater productions at the age of 7. She has since gone on to study piano, guitar, vocal performance, and songwriting. She attended Tacoma School of the Arts as a freshman in high-school and shortly thereafter began traveling and touring the West Coast full-time. At just 15 Ainsley moved to online high-school (so she could tour) and simultaneously began taking classes at the prestigious Berklee College of Music Online. She graduated from high school at 16 and was formally accepted to the Berklee College of Music's Business Degree program shortly after. At just 19 years old, in May 2023 Ainsley graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors of Art in Music Business.Ainsley began performing live shows with a full band of adult professional-level musicians at just 13 years old. By the time she was 14 she could regularly hold down a 3-hour cover set. At 13 & 14 she was involved with unaired episodes of "The Voice" and "American Idol." At 14, Ainsley became one of Breedlove Guitars youngest endorsed artists and has since been endorsed by Mackie Sound and has strategic partnerships with Taylor Guitars and Sennheiser Microphones. To date she has performed over 200 shows in 20 states on festival, fair, and bar states alike.Ainsley Costello WebsiteSRTN Website

As conservatives prepare to go Target-free for June, it begs the question: how long will this go on? How long can it? Are people being inconsistent by refusing to shop at Target but continuing to shop at Walmart or Amazon? Or can we simply do the best we can with what we have to steward our money and resources? I see both sides of the argument and have been/am on both sides, so I want to examine both sides of the discussion and see how we can all avoid error on both extremes of leaning too hard into "boycott or you're in sin" or "we don't have to do anything different ever" regardless of how corporations behave. I think this is a valuable and important conversation for Christians to have, and it surely isn't the last time a corporation will serve a demonic agenda in this ever-present spiritual battle that wages on. With Pride Month right around the corner, it's important for Christian parents to be prepared to engage with their kids on this topic. Many parents avoid this conversation altogether or hope their kids won't notice - but is that really the approach we should take as we equip our children to live as salt and light in Babylon? They need more than our hopes that they will go one more year without asking hard questions about all the rainbows they are seeing. In this episode, I share the structure for the conversation and break it down in a way that will help you not dread this conversation with your kids, and dare I say even enjoy it as you get to share the beauty of God's design and truth with them. I break this down for ages 3-18 and will share tips that help you adapt it to your children. KEY SCRIPTURES Genesis 1:27 tells us God made humans male and female. Prov. 14:12 tells us that a way seems right to man but the end is death. Romans 1:18-38 gives a vivid picture of humankind refusing to acknowledge God and giving him proper glory. Throughout the Old Testament in places like Leviticus 18, Leviticus 20, Genesis, and later on in Judges, but also in the New Testament in Romans 1, 1 Corinthians 6, and 1 Timothy 1, it is made very clear that homosexual activity is sinful. In 1 Corinthians 6 and 1 Timothy 1, Paul lists homosexual activity along with numerous other sins: revelry, drunkenness, and all sorts of other sins, some of which are minor, some major; some less significant, some more significant; some even heinous sins. In Romans 1, however, Paul identifies homosexual sin as a more heinous sin, being that it is contrary to nature. Parenting isn't easy and mom guilt is real. There's no denying most cultural battles today are centered around children and what's best for them. One of the approaches parents are taking is gentle parenting. It's a method that eliminates discipline and focuses on raising independent kids through empthay and understanding. But is that the biblical view of parenting? Haley Williams discusses the biblical approach to parenting and why many lessons parents teach their kids have the possibility for the salvation message, forgiveness, and the hope of restored relationships. This is an encouraging episode and a great reminder for parents as we learn to steer our children in a culture that is growing increasingly hostile toward biblical parenting. Welcome to Roadcase!! We're so psyched to have uber-cool Raina Mullen on the show. Raina plays ripping guitar and lends her stellar vocals to Ghost Light, a relatively new jam band on the scene with their super compelling 2019 debut album, Best Kept Secrets. Proudly taking on the mantle of role model for women who rock, Raina, one of a fairly small club of women artist in the jam band community, relishes her position and seeks to inspire young female performers to push the limits of their musical abilities. Having met her bandmate Tom Hamilton while working at the famous jam-band nexus Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, Raina went on to join Tom with his American Babies project and now stands shoulder to shoulder onstage with her mentor in Ghost Light. It is a compelling combination of musical talents and fearless improvisation capabilities -- a quality that is equally distributed throughout all members of this amazing band. So hop aboard the Roadcase bus for this journey through time and space with Raina Mullen. It was a crazy weekend at Pebble Beach, as past guest Nate Lashley tip-toed around the lead, and hot-handed Jordan Spieth held the lead for awhile, until Alex's pick Daniel Berger closed it out to win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro [Am] (1:41). The PGA of America announced that range finders will be allowed at the PGA Championship, and Alex and Michael are a little wary of this idea (8:59). Plus the Monday Qualifiers return to full force as the Korn Ferry Tour season gets started (11:39). The PGA Tour heads to the Genesis Invitational, and past guest Willie Mack III is in the field (12:30). The guys share some of their early favorites, and keep an eye on the Twitter accounts for Alex and Michael for their full cards on Wednesday (13:24). In Tuned In, Alex watched the now infamous Brittney Spears documentary, and isn't that impressed (15:44). Meanwhile, Michael is listening to the new Haley Williams solo album, "Petals for Armor." Food Network's Spring Baking Championship is starting up again on February 22 at 9PM ET, and host Ali Khan rejoins Alex to talk about life during Covid and everything else (19:41). As the NFL season is now officially over, attention turns to college basketball and March Madness being right around the corner (56:24). Valentine's Day was Sunday, and as Alex and Michael #AlwaysEndWithFood, they share what they made for their significant others, and Michael gives some steak cooking tips (58:48). The term "Pro All Life" has exploded onto the scene surrounding the abortion discussion - especially amongst Christians. But is this term truly pro ALL life? Or is there more to what's being said when someone proclaims they are pro-all-life? I examine what the Bible says about life and what our response should be as Christians. We're back for our second conversation with Haley Williams! In this episode, Haley shares her personal experience with the Enneagram. In sharing, she explains what she has come to learn about the truth behind this personality test. Haley discusses the turning point of coming out of a world wrapped up in the mindset of this test through explaining the history, motives, and goals behind it. As always, we end by comparing the promises of the Enneagram with the promises of the Gospel. You may have guessed it, but one is far better than the other! This week, we interview special guest Haley Williams from the Kindled podcast. Haley provides wisdom filled advice and explanations for our questions on feminism, motherhood, and the public vs. private. vs. homeschool education systems. Beginning our conversation by discussing all Haley is involved in, we ask her if she feels in any way empowered by the feminist movement. After providing a brief overview of the feminist worldview in comparison to a Biblical worldview, Haley states she "believes in women too much to believe in feminism." -- Amen to that sis! So good! We then transition into discussing Haley's advice for women who desire to be mothers someday. The greatest piece of advice she share for preparing for motherhood is to prioritize your relationship with the Lord and seek to spend time in His word. Lastly, we asked her advice, as a mom, on whether she would have her children attend public, private, or home school. In this portion of the conversation Haley gives incredible advice for college students in the public education system. We hope you enjoy this edifying, encouraging, and insightful conversation as much as we did!
The first episode of Kindled's Christianity & Culture series! In this episode, we ask the questions "Who is God?" and "Who is man?" and compare a biblical with a secular worldview answer to those questions. Jeff Medders, author of Humble Calvinism and other books, joins host Haley Williams. Shownotes at www.KindledPodcast.com
Get to know my new favorite band: The Aces. Comprised of sisters Alisa and Cristal Ramirez, Katie Henderson, and McKenna Petty, The Aces grew up in Provo, Utah where they started the band in their early teens in Katie’s garage. After one of their moms cold-called a recording agent by finding his number on Google, they signed with Red Bull Records where they released their debut album When My Heart Felt Volcanic in 2018, and later joined 5 Seconds of Summer for their Meet You There Tour. They’ve also gone on their own North American headlining tour, where they performed on Seth Meyer's Late Night Show and SXSW. This May, they announced the release of their second studio album, Under My Influence, which dropped Friday July 17th. In this episode, The Aces and I talk about what it was like to grow up in one of the most conservative Mormon towns in the United States, our everlasting love for Haley Williams, how they’ve set out to re-define the idea of the girl band, and why this new album is a step in a more honest and real direction for the band. Welcome to the Education Mini-Series! In this introduction, Haley gives a preface to this 3-part mini-series in which you'll hear from 6 women who, along with their husbands, have all chosen different routes for educating their kids. You'll hear from two who chose public school, two who chose homeschooling and two who chose private school. As believers in Jesus, we have the great privilege and responsibility of teaching our kids about Jesus and praying God uses our instruction to open the eyes of their heart unto salvation. As for academic education, I believe we have a number of faithful options when it comes to how our children are educated. There are any number of models and methods and many, many different ways people have done it over the years. But for the sake of brevity, we're broadly exploring the big three - public, private and homeschool. The point of these interviews is not to offer a prescription for your situation or tell you WHAT to think but rather help you with HOW to think about this important decision. It's what I have wanted as my own husband and I have had these conversations. To hear some real, boots-on-the-ground experiences, questions and answers and encouragement to do the best with what we have and know today, trusting our great God to bring the harvest as only He can. I pray it blesses everyone who listens, helping you to put this decision in perspective and put your hope in Jesus alone. I know I need this reminder daily! Charlena Ortiz teaches us how she's learned to trust Jesus as her sustainer, sought the unforced rhythms of grace in the pursuit of her dream, and discovered patience with herself and with Him in the process. In this episode, Charlena offers a helpful question to ask yourself if you're still trying to figure out your dream. And she explains how we might gain clarity on the lies we believe and, instead, turn up the volume on what is true—based on Scripture. You'll also discover how your dream can become a tool for personal transformation and why that's so important. That rings true to my experience as well. I like to say that it's not so much about what the dream is but about what God's going to do with you in the process! An introverted extrovert, Charlena has developed a conviction of helping women break through barriers. After studying Business and Marketing in college and becoming a certified coach with a focus on Positive Psychology, she moved to Silicon Valley with her husband and started her coaching practice. After years of coaching, she founded Grit & Virtue, a personal development company for modern-day women, a place where women can thrive from a holistic perspective. While today her main focus is on taking the company to new heights, she also makes time to coach clients, speak, and write about all things personal and professional growth. Charlena lives in beautiful Colorado with her husband, boxer dog and soon to be rainbow baby girl. To all the doers and dreamers, Haley offers the important reminder God gave her that “I am not my work.” This episode is a real and honest look at how we go about building our God-shaped dream and what to do when you aren't sure how to begin. Haley talks about starting before you feel ready (and why it's a good idea to just take the leap). You'll discover the value of trusting God with the outcomes, understanding your need for grace, finding your approval in Him alone, and allowing Jesus to change you from the inside out as you pursue your dream. Hear why your dream has less to do with your skills, abilities, and desires and more to do with your willingness to be transformed in the process of pursuing it. Haley also shares about investing time, money and energy into building a course only to get a “not yet” response from God about moving forward. Her vulnerability will draw you in and – I hope – help you remember that you're not alone when things don't go exactly as you planned. Despite the difficulty she's faced, Haley offers and holds fast to the advice to “start before you're ready” because you never know what God will do with your obedience. We live in an age of immense influence. Everyone has the capability - and practically everyone is - an influencer. With instagram, facebook and Twitter in our fingertips, we both find ourselves having influence and receiving influence from all manner of individuals who believe all manner of things. Slap the label "Christian" and the words "Jesus" up next to what is posted and said and shared, and you have a recipe for either total awesomeness or total disaster. How are you discerning what you are consuming online? Do you know what you believe about the myriad of modern issue our culture and even pop Christian culture is speaking into and defining for us? Do you know whom to believe? This episode is about the ultimate, final and only authority of Scripture to tell us what is true, who we are and what is good. Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

In this episode, I’m opening up about my recent course launch and sharing how God has used an outcome I didn't expect to bring about the result I needed most. I'm sharing how I'm learning we can trust God with the result He is bringing about in our hearts and lives. In fact, how it is often the story we most fear that delivers the growth we have most fervently prayed for, and how God will use every means necessary to bring us near to Him.

Welcome back to The Strategy Hour everybody we hope you are excited about today’s episode because we sure are! Today we are chatting with Haley Williams about selling a business when you realize that you might not love what you are doing. This is an experience Haley had with a project she had been running for the last seven years only a few months ago! This can obviously be quite a difficult process and that is what this chat is all about. Making tough choices that are the best for you. It took some time but Haley found the clarity she needed to feel good about her decision and has not looked back since. There are a number of choices that are available to us as business owners when these feelings arise. One of the options is to just shut down the business completely, which is quite drastic but is sometimes necessary. The second option is to think about changing the way you work and how the business runs and the last is to let go of it and have someone else buy and take care of it. The last of these is what Haley did and she found it was a lot about letting go of the identity she had come to correlate to her business and realizing that she was more than that part of herself. Even at TCC, we are also slowly finding our way through this dynamic and learning to value ourselves beyond the work we put into our jobs. So come along for this important journey and hopefully you can come out the side inspired and ready for any necessary changes. Thank you for listening! Today you get to hear from my FAVORITE person in the world - MY HUSBAND! I thought it would be a hoot to interview him on all things regarding being married to an entrepreneur. After all, he's had a front row seat to my journey the last 7 years, so I think he knows a thing or two what it's like! These episodes are my most favorite to record, because it's just us hanging out, chatting, while on recording, which seems to always make for some of the most hilarious conversations. This episode is loaded with practical advice and stories from our own marriage about communication, expectations and growing towards each other instead of away from one another.
Do you ever get TOTALLY SCHOOLED by the Holy Spirit? Like, you ask God for wisdom, and He delivers and just spanks you with insight. Ouch, Lord. I get it. That happened for me Wednesday night. So I interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this straight from heaven. JKJK. But like, kind of serious. Because I do believe this was God's kindness to give my thick skull the insight I needed on some questions I've been asking. And because we're friends, and His goodness is worth sharing, I'm telling you all about it. I hope you like preaching, because this episode ventures in soapbox. But it ain't my soap box. This, friend, is about the gospel. And whose kingdom you're building.

Welcome to another episode of Making It with Chris G where we have Conversations with people in the world of entertainment who are making it, from behind the scenes to the spotlight. Sharing their stories and insight to help you get one step closer to Making It. Kevin Lyman is the founder of Vans Warped Tour and 4Fini. From his days in college he got involved in helping with and organizing events and live concerts. He’s built such a name for himself in the late 80’s and early 90’s that got him to a point where he was working over 300 shows per year. That eventually led to him working the first four years of Lollapalooza. Throughout his journey he’s met and bonded with several artists, and after working Lollapalooza, he was inspired to start a festival that does it in a different way. That was when he started Vans Warped Tour in 1995. It actually wasn’t till he was 33 years old when he started his business, but he brought 13 years worth of experience and relationships along with him. Today in 2017, Vans Warped Tour is the longest running music festival and tour in the world. Kevin Lyman has put on many other successful festivals and events such as Taste of Chaos. He’s also a serial entrepreneur from having run and sold a Brewery, Hair Dye Company with Haley Williams from Paramore, a coconut water company, and much more. He’s someone that’s passionate about giving back to the community and empowering young people. We talk about branding, longevity, entrepreneurship, the future of our next generation, and much more. "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." - James 1:27 When I read the raving recommendations from Bob Goff, Katie Davis and Esther Havens, I knew I had to interview Bethany Haley Williams and read her book. Why Pay For Feedback – Episode 068 Why would you ever pay for feedback? Can't you get that for free from most of your fans/listeners/family? I was reading the comments on a blog post the other. As a disclaimer, I rarely do this. Most trolls that comment on blog posts do so anonymously. They are rarely knowledgable about the subject. And they typically offer little constructive criticism. We discussed the trolls in episode 051 “Why I Ignore Podcast Critics”. This particular blog post was in reference to a colleague. The commenter questioned why anyone would ever pay for feedback (coaching) when they could get plenty of it for free. This misguided individual obviously doesn't understand the value of coaching. Believing your listener can give you quality feedback on your podcast is like believing David Ortiz, home run leader of the Boston Red Sox, can get feedback on his hitting from the guy with a Bud Light in his hand sitting three rows up behind the on deck circle. Is Tiger Woods getting advice on his swing from the two duffers sitting beside the 3rd green? I don't think so. Here are five myths about coaching. 1. I've Never Heard Of You Myth: There is no value of an opinion from someone nobody has heard of. Truth: You've never heard of some of the most powerful, well-paid coaches in the world. How about Hank Haney or Sean Foley or Notah Begay? All three have served as a swing coach for professional golfer Tiger Woods. How about Jim Presley or Elnar Diaz? They are the hitting coaches for the Major League Baseball Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore had 211 home runs in 2014. 25 more than the 2nd team. The Major League Baseball Detroit Tigers hit .277 as a team in 2014. Ever heard of Wally Joyner or David Newhan? Both hitting coaches. Would you pay Brett Manning to coach you? Taylor Swift has. Keith Urban and Haley Williams of Paramore have as well. Most people have never heard of Brett Manning. Just because you have never heard of the coach, that does not mean they are not able to offer you valuable input and advice. 2. I Can Do It Myself Myth: I know what I am supposed to do, so I can do it myself. Truth: Your coach can see things you cannot. Business coaches. Quarterback coaches. Vocal coaches. Violin coaches. Writing coaches. Speaking coaches. Coaches are everywhere. Unless you are in the industry, most people have never heard of these coaches. These instructors are well educated and experienced in the profession. They help the greats become even better. 3. Coach Just Wants Money Myth: The coach is only in it for the money. Truth: No coach does it simply for the money. Most every coach loves to teach. They get great pride by seeing their clients succeed. Coaches who coach only for the money rarely last. If clients are not improving and succeeding by using the coach, words gets around. Do you homework on a coach. Find people that have used their services. If the coach has helped others succeed, there is a good chance they can help you as well. 4. Positive Feedback = More Money Myth: The coach will only give you positive feedback, because they want you to come back again and again. Truth: Constructive criticism is really the only way to improve. A Pollyanna view will never get results. A coach that only gives you positive feedback is rarely helping you get better. If you are not getting better using a coach, you should stop using those services. Tiger's swing coach doesn't stand next to Tiger saying, “Great swing. Keep it up.” I can get my nephew to do that for me. If that is the sort of feedback you want, then by all means use your fans and family. If you truly want to improve, hire a coach. When I coach my clients, I typically look for 3 things they are doing right and 3 things they can improve upon. You cannot improve your show by simply removing the bad stuff. You need to replace it with good stuff. Let's find the good stuff, so we can do more of that. That content can replace the areas that need improvement. 5. Who Pays For A Bad Review? Myth: Nobody wants to pay to hear they are horrible. Truth: Sometimes the truth hurts, but it is necessary. If you want to improve, you need to know where the rough spots are. You are not paying for a bad review. You are paying for the truth. If you don't want to know if you look fat in those jeans, don't ask. However, if you are truly concerned about your look, and you don't want to go out of the house wearing a bad Christmas sweater, find someone who will tell you the truth. A good coach will give you an honest assessment of your show. Someone who has worked with various shows over many years will know the pieces that make a successful show. That coach can help you implement ideas and tactics to reach your goals. Nothing beats the experience of a winner. A good coach is a powerful tool for you. Most people don't know what they don't know. A solid coach can help you identify areas that will help you propel forward. Some people are not comfortable jumping headfirst into the coaching pool. It is a big step. Maybe that is you. If you would like to dip your toe in water, Dave Jackson and I do a show together called “The Podcast Review Show”. Take a listen to the show to see how our coaching styles differ. You can hear how we both work with our coaching clients. You can also get details about getting your show reviewed. Whether you use one of us or another coach, the important part is that you get some objective feedback to help you improve. Find someone with experience to mentor you through your creative process. You will be amazed at the progress you make with your art. I'd love to help you with your podcast. Post any questions or comments you might have, or e-mail me at Erik@PodcastTalentCoach.com.
