- Her svikter EØS-utvalget.

Mathilda Joubert is Director of Excellence and Innovation at the Sheridan Institute for Higher Education and lectures in creativity, school improvement, leadership, management, and research methods in both the Faculties of Education and Business. So often we hear of the need for problem solving. But what about developing skills in identifying new problems? In this interview, Mathilda breaks down what it means to be purpose driven in the way we think about problem solving. Mathilda explains that with the right knowledge about the differences between creativity and eccentricity, anyone can benefit from creative thinking to develop solutions to real problems that add real value. This interview will help inspire teachers who are looking for that edge to create dynamic classrooms with approaches to innovation that really mean something. For more information on Mathilda's work, check out this article where she describes methods for developing innovation in science classes. It's inspiring work. Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is one of Australia's highest profile child and adolescent psychologists. He's a prolific author and broadcaster, with regular appearances on Australian television and radio. He also specialises in corporate mental health, families and the seemingly ever-present issue of adolescent use of technology and its effect on mental health. In this discussion, I talk with Michael about a recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper about a call for banning phones in schools. Now, you might already have a strong view about this and wonder why the point is still being argued. But Michael brings insight into the debate based on extensive research and experience. In fact he was asked by a former NSW minister for education to conduct a review and write a report into the non-educational use of mobile devices in NSW schools. I started by asking Michael why he had such a high level of conviction about a ban from the first bell, until the last. Access the report on non-educational use of mobile devices in NSW schools. https://education.nsw.gov.au/about-us/strategies-and-reports/our-reports-and-reviews/mobile-devices-in-schools/review-into-the-non-educational-use-of-mobile-devices-in-nsw-schools#Findings_45 Read the SMH article here. https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/high-school-phone-ban-more-urgent-than-ever-amid-pressure-on-teens-20220809-p5b8dp.html Find out more about Dr Michael Carr-Gregg's work at https://michaelcarrgregg.com This podcast is brought to you by Sentral. Dr Pete Stebbins has over 20 year's experience as keynote speaker and facilitator. He's a published author of books on leadership, resilience and change, and also a guest psychologist on Australian television's Channel 7. I caught up with Pete to work through some of the key points of the most recent edition of his book, titled "Leading Flourishing Schools, Building HIGH CAPACITY School Culture". It's a title that's filled with promise, and followed up on the very first page with a quote that's, well, quite confronting. Pete's thesis centres around the idea that school culture can have a massive effect on the capacity of staff and students. And, that the odd unicorn encounter can make a life changing difference to any school student. I started by asking Pete about what he really means by the notion of capacity, why it's so important, and how it can impact wellbeing and the performance of teams in schools. Yong joined me on the podcast in July 2021, and it's great to have him back on the show in the lead up to the 2022 Sydney Morning Herald Schools Summit, where he'll be giving a keynote address.Yong's theme this year? Learners without borders: new conditions of learning and teachingI caught up with Yong before the summit to dive into some of the ideas he'll be presenting on. Like last time, Yong brings inspirational thinking to the challenges facing education, and he does so with passion and good humour. Rob Edwards has been inspiring audiences for decades with his message that encourages people to look after themselves…first. And that is, in a way that ultimately benefits others. A little bit like putting on your own oxygen mask first, before helping others. In the world of education these days, the pressure and expectation are certainly mounting to the point where it's easy to forget about looking after yourself, …. which then affects other things in our lives such as how effective we are as teachers and how we interact with our families. Rob brings a wealth of experience from interacting with just about every industry you can think of, and he does so in a way that's practical, easy to listen to and entertaining. Rob will be speaking at the 2021 Western Australian Primary Principals conference. I caught up with Rob in the lead up, to find out a little more about what educators can do to make sure they're looking after themselves.

James has engaged with hundreds of innovators over the years and worked extensively with organisations to explain how innovation happens, and how people can be more innovative. He's also just recently launched a podcast with Professor Ian Hickie called Minding Your Mind, which explores the complex world of mental health. James is presenting at the 2021 Western Australian Secondary Schools Executives Association conference on the subject of overcoming barriers to education. STEM education is still a challenge, and probably will be for a while. Some schools have got strong STEM programs, whilst others have technology programs that do STEM-like projects, and there’s everything else in between. My guests today are Malyn Mawby and Nikki Shires, both STEM educators and advocates for girls’ involvement in STEM education. In this discussion we cover just how to sell the value proposition of STEM to young people and what kinds of innovative approaches are needed to keep the vision alive, realistic and relevant for an unknown future. I started by asking them how they got there, and why we still think about STEM as a thing. This podcast is brought to you by Sentral. To find out more, visit the website.https://www.sentral.com.au
Part 2 with Jason Potts, RMITWhere does Bitcoin come from? Jordana Hunter is a researcher at the Grattan Institute, an Australian public policy think tank based in Melbourne. She’s about to embark on research which addresses the age old issue of ‘time’ in education. Do teachers have enough time for the core part of their jobs, that is, teaching and learning? And is the profession sustainable, given the increasing demands placed on teachers and schools to teach a whole lot of other things....like general capabilities, technology, citizenship, health, and the list goes on. Jordana presented at the 2021 Age Schools summit in Melbourne on the complex issue of time as a precious resource for teachers. I caught up with Jordana before the summit to get deeper insight into this important research.Have your say in the Grattan Institute Survey!https://mailchi.mp/grattan/education-surveyThe Grattan Institute is currently investigating how teachers can find enough time in the week to focus on the types of high impact teaching activities that can really make a difference to student learning – like planning great lessons, helping struggling students, providing feedback and improving professional practice. Grattan researchers want to hear from teachers and school leaders about how they currently spend their time at school and the changes that might be possible to find more time for these high impact activities. Grattan will shortly launch a survey of teachers and school leaders so that you can let them know what you think. You can sign up to receive a link to the survey by going to: https://mailchi.mp/grattan/education-survey
Jen Buchanan is an educator with truly global experience. Having worked in a variety of contexts, she brings a wealth of insight when it comes to helping schools consider what the future of education might look like. It can be a confronting process. As Jen explains from her own experience, things like having to unlearn, or let things go, can often be a part of making the next steps towards a more innovative, or high impact future. Our conversation starts by taking a brief look back at Jen’s time at Green School, in Bali, where the direction of the learning programme is clear: and that is, towards an education revolution.

If the idea of a ‘hackathon’ gives you the impression of blokey tech nerds huddled around computers in basements eating pizza and drinking beer...you’d be fairly close to describing reality. At least that’s what Sarah Moran found out when she was invited to one some years ago. Apart from the fact that there weren’t many women at these events, it was hard for Sarah to see why anyone would attend one of these events. This led her to reimagine what a hackathon could be like... bring the concept into the light and ultimately create what is now known as Girl Geek Academy. Its purpose is clear...to fix the hole in the tech pipeline by teaching women, girls and families across a range of different industries including games, startups, 3D printing, making, design, tech, drones, space and aviation. In this discussion you’ll hear Sarah describe her journey, and how Girl Geek Academy is helping young women achieve and thrive in the tech space. If you’re looking for inspiration and enthusiasm, you’ll find it here. Sarah’s got loads of it.Connect with Girl Geek AcademyGirl Geek AcademyThis podcast is brought to you by Sentral.
