We're talking to writer Omar Morales today about his graphic novel Major Thomás now available exclusively on Comixology! With art by Serg Acuña and Mau Mora“A Mexican-American farm worker becomes a NASA astronaut and just as his dreams begin to blast off, he gets lost in the middle of a space war, marooned with crushing regret about his life choices.” But first, what were our first blush reactions to the comic? Is this being marked as a young adult book or is it for a broader audience? Was this comic created by an all-Latino creative team? How did Omar link up with his creative team? Did Omar's life inspire some of this comic? How did Latinos involved in NASA inspire this comic? Did Omar play against Tom Brady in high school? How did Omar get astronaut Jose Hernandez to write a forward for Major Thomás? What kind of back matter is included in the deluxe edition? Is a physical print release planned for Major Thomás? How did Major Thomás start off as a project? Is there a study guide for educators in this comic? What is Creators Assemble? Are libraries a great way to read comics both physically and digitally? Is this the perfect comic for a middle-schooler? Is the comic's title a David Bowie reference? Did songwriter Peter Schilling allow Omar to use lyrics from “Major Tom” in this comic? What message does Omar want readers to get out of Major Thomás? Does Omar have a second and third volume of the series planned? Is Alf hidden somewhere in this comic? What other Easter Eggs appear in Major Thomás? Is the character Lisa influenced by anyone in Omar's personal life? How is Oakland represented in the comic? How did the band Shiny Toy Guns inspire Major Thomas? Is this comic a mix between La Bamba, Lost in Space, and Guardians of the Galaxy? Did Omar have a soundtrack in mind for this comic? Does Major Thomas have Saturday Morning Cartoon vibes? Did Omar break a Guinness World Record in 2015 for largest comic in the world? Why did Omar decide to release Major Thomás as a graphic novel as opposed to single issues? What was the process like getting this comic published by Comixology? What fan fiction has Omar worked on? What was Omar's biggest obstacle in making this book? How did Omar contribute to Mad Cave Studios LA Strong anthology? What other projects does Omar have on the horizon?Check out Major Thomás on Comixology: https://a.co/d/gSm7ksiCheck out our Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ComicsandChronicCheck out our website: https://www.comicsandchronic.com/New episodes every THURSDAYFollow us on social media! Would you like to know a little secret about making great records? Who doesn't want to know a great secret! The origin story goes that Joe Solo discovered Macy Gray while she was working in a Beverly Hills diner and he decided to develop her career, vowing to work “however long it takes” until they made it big - a promise that took nearly 15 years to fulfill. Since then Joe has worked with the likes of Fergie, will.i.am, Erykah Badu, Shinedown, and Shiny Toy Guns and labels such as Atlantic, Epic, Universal, Sony, BMG, and Warner Brothers. A producer, songwriter and composer, Joe started out as a guitarist but his life trajectory was permanently altered when instead of a new guitar pedal his dad bought him a Tascam Portastudio for his birthday. Joe and Steve talk shop discussing the psychology of producing, the tricks they use to capture great takes, managing (and eliciting) a performer's emotion, and delivering constructive feedback. They talk about how the studio can be an instrument, and how certain sounds were achieved on classic records (like Pink Floyd's “Dark Side of the Moon”). Joe talks about the importance of listening to new music, and he and Steve touch on helping an artist find their own authenticity. Steve also gets Joe to share about his love of Hans Zimmer's music and the movie Interstellar (by his favorite director Christopher Nolan)… and we get to hear about that one time that Steve was on the set of Inception while the train was driving down the middle of a downtown street! Joe says “Composing exists in film to command a certain emotional response from the audience, it will always be the job of the music in a film to serve the story.” Joe has also helped many many independent musicians through his workshops and classes, and if there were one piece of advice he could give to every artist he meets it would be: “Never ever quit.” Guest: Joe Solo Website: https://joesolo.com/ Christy Nava – Soul Contracts EP (Produced by Joe Solo and Steven Leavitt) Listen on all-platforms! We had the pleasure of interviewing Ryan and Pony over Zoom video! Ryan And Pony is a brand-new project from two indie-rockers who have been kicking around the much-vaunted Minneapolis music scene for years.  Their debut album Moshi Moshi was recorded at a variety of Minneapolis studios including Flight Simulator, Flowers, Master Mix, and The Kill Room with Ryan producing.  John Fields mixed and Greg Reierson mastered the album.  Moshi Moshi is available on 12” blue vinyl LP, CD, digital download, and streaming services through Chicago’s Pravda Records. Ryan is a workaholic multi-instrumentalist who has been playing lead guitar in Soul Asylum since 2016. Pony is a flamboyant performer and artist raised by deaf parents.  Together they have made numerous albums and toured internationally leading The Melismatics.  On Moshi Moshi they fuse Dream-Pop, post-Punk, Brit-rock, EDM, and good ol' fashioned Rock ‘n’ Roll into a sound all their own;  irony, weirdness, and melody are at its heart.  Peter Anderson (The Ocean Blue, Run Westy Run, The Honeydogs) adds his killer drum skills to the mix.Ryan Smith and Pony (AKA Kathie Hixon-Smith) first met touring the U.S. in a minivan as indie-rocker Mark Mallman’s back-up band.  Both Ryan’s newly launched group The Melismatics and Pony’s band Hundred Flowers started making waves in the Minneapolis scene. Before long, they joined creative forces and Pony became co-front person in The Melismatics. The Melismatics went on to release seven studio albums and several singles, play Lollapalooza, have their music used in numerous TV shows, tour internationally, and build a devoted fanbase.  They also shared the stage with the likes of MGMT, The Von Bondies, Joan Jett, Plain White Tees, Shiny Toy Guns, The Jayhawks, and Soul Asylum.  After the Melismatics released their most recent album Rising Tide in 2013, the group started to slow down their rigorous touring schedule.  With this break in the action, the idea for a new project took shape and Ryan and Pony began working on new material.  The first track to come into fruition was “First Night,” a weirdly relevant song about rebirth. The duo continued recording songs for their debut album and playing local shows…Then Soul Asylum called.  Ryan joined the legendary alternative rock group as their new lead guitarist and in 2016 and became very busy touring and recording.  Soul Asylum released a new album in 2020, Hurry Up And Wait which quickly became their third highest charting album to date.  After that album was in the can, Ryan was able to focus on putting the finishing touches on “Moshi Moshi” and finally turning it in to Pravda – now here it comes! We want to hear from you! Quick-witted and refreshingly novel indie synth pop artist Liza Oppenheimer’s “Stink Eye” (co-written with and produced by Black Furrari) injects our currently dire social climate with some much needed pop-art (dare I say, comic?) relief. In the humorous “Stink Eye,” Liza is unapologetic about her contribution to her own personal failures. Communicating her dark vs. light inner monologue throughout the song’s dead-end journey. “The song is a love letter to failure,” says Liza. Liza’s joined the music scene with her 2020 debut EP “Best Foreign Language Film” (co-written and produced by Jeremy Dawson/MXMS, Shiny Toy Guns). Liza’s lyrics, driven by her unique attitude, make this EP (and Liza) a true original as evidenced on her song “Love Me.” “Love Me is a stream of consciousness” says Liza. “The song began as an email I planned to never send. Then it became a poem. Then spoken-word over music, thus the melodies were born. It may sound like a sad song, and it is, but it’s a comedy as well” says Liza. You don’t have to dig far to find the darkness that’s mixed with the laugh-out-loud inappropriateness in her lyrics. Listen to Liza Oppenheimer and you won’t know whether to laugh or cry, but you’ll know for certain, you are moved. ROBBY STARBUCK Spotlight Interview -- RIGHT NOW Podcast https://newrightnetwork.com/2019/09/grow-up-conservative-entertainment-right-now-nrn-robby-starbuck.html Robby Starbuck: I didn't go to a fancy film school, I had talent and work ethic. ABOUT ROBBY STARBUCK Robby Starbuck is a director, producer and the owner of RSM Creative. He has directed & produced music videos for Gucci Mane, Ty Dolla $ign, Black Veil Brides, Asking Alexandria, Transformers: The Last Knight Movie, Sarah Bareilles, Terminator: Genysis Movie, Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez, Akon, Smashing Pumpkins, The Sounds, Shiny Toy Guns, Metric, Yellowcard, Escape The Fate, Big Sean, Machine Gun Kelly, Eve, Snoop Dogg, MakJ, Krewella, Headhunterz, Mali Music, Pop Evil, Pierce The Veil, Dirty Heads, Matisyahu, Gabe Saporta, August Burns Red, Skillet, Matriarch, Times of Grace, Demon Hunter, Silverstein, Megadeth and many more! Robby Starbuck is a director inspired by dichotomy. Dark vs. Light, Good vs. Evil. If you're thinking about something he's thinking of what the opposite could be. This kind of thought process is embedded in the high gloss videos he's become known for directing. Not one to shy away from the critics or the fans he's immersed even what he does behind the camera into an art-form of it's own. After early success in his career and offers from production companies to sign Robby decided to start his own company RSM Creative in an effort to start his own powerhouse. As his company grows so does Robby. In 2010 alone he was named to OC METRO's Top 40 under 40 - with even more positive reinforcement SUBSTREAM Magazine ran a cover story on Robby as well. Robby Starbuck is represented exclusively by Paradigm for Feature Films, Commercial, Television & Reality by Paradigm Agency. Laure Scott remains his rep for all music videos. https://RSMCreative.com https://twitter.com/robbystarbuck https://twitter.com/GrowUpLive https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVEVXNtd3w2gN4K0qvXxE_A New Right Network • The Fresh Voice of New Media Get RIGHT NOW Newsletter: https://bit.ly/newrightemail Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/newrightnetwork Connect on Parler: https://parler.com/profile/newrightnetwork Also subscribe and listen on: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDpAcBxVpKGrLISSDfnfe6OUYka70p8Bf https://facebook.com/watch/251026622038112 https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/right-now-podcast https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#/ps/I5344qfnnxrlt7erwrky4q652zu https://open.spotify.com/show/7KzE93O1X4egXfX4z1xy3s https://pca.st/1r1L September 1, 2019 - Interview Spotlight, pre-recorded Hosted by New Right Network https://newrightnetwork.com New Right Network invites a range of inspiring freethinkers. Part 2 of this episode finds John and Scott taking a walk down Elm Street, getting Spaced and jumping sharks with Buffy. 00:01:00 - John remembers the good old days of New Line Cinema, and how the economy plus a few bad decisions have all but killed such a great company. 00:05:04 - The Dark Knight gets mentioned, leading to a condemnation of the Academy Awards and their recent behavior. 00:18:26 - John is excited about the documentary, Never Sleep Again. This leads to discussions about the Elm Street franchise, the remake and the potential effectiveness of dream sequences in Horror films. 00:41:22 - Why are all these movie studios going through financial bankruptcy? It could have something to do with their creative bankruptcy. 00:47:00 - Scott pulls his hair out over how much good TV there is to watch. Fringe gets brought up, as well as Vampire Diaries, shockingly. Also, we here at the podcast are head over heels for Edgar Wright's series, Spaced. 00:56:44 - If you love something, let it go. This applies to TV shows, especially ones that have become comic books. Buffy is discussed here. 01:04:05 - John closes this episode by guilting the listeners for emails and iTunes reviews. Also, Scott nearly chokes to death on his beverage. The following artists can be heard in this episode: Amanda Wyss & Heather Langenkamp & Nick Corri, The Divinyls, Clint Mansell, Glee Cast, Charles Bernstein, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Angelo Badalamenti, Craig Safan, The Goo Goo Dolls, Sinead O'Connor, Dramarama, Billy Idol, Shiny Toy Guns, Fatboy Slim, Slowdive, Alan Silvestri and 213.

This set may put you in a trance. Full of enormous vocal house and trance tracks that deserve much attention. "Counting down the minutes 'til tonight." Enjoy! Track List (57:12) Till Tonight (Original Mix) - Laidback Luke feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn: Former graffiti artist turned DJ, Laidback Luke, from the Netherlands, turns in a massive tune with the vocal power of Jonathan Mendelelsohn. Jonathan had one of my fave tunes, with Wamdue Project, last year with Forgiveness. Check out my previous mix of the same title, Forgiveness. Come Back (Original Club Mix) - Chicane: The new single to launch the new Chicane album titled 'Giants'. This is essentially a rework of the Paul Young 80's song 'Come Back and Stay'. I'm a big Chicane fan and have already featured two other recent singles on past sets, Hiding All The Stars and Poppiholla that I hope are also on the new album. Major Tom (Adam K & Soha Club Mix) - Shiny Toy Guns: Peter Schilling recorded it originally but it is the David Bowie character that made it famous. Shiny Toy Guns has a knack for recording exciting cover songs and is perhaps also best known for the songs in the Lincoln car commercials. U R Everything (Main Mix) - Chuck Love feat. Colette: The Minneapolis based DJ turns out a smooth house track with a vocal by Colette that seems to work perfectly. "You you you you are are are everything..." I dare you to try and get that simple lyric out of your head! Anthonio (Fred Falke Remix) - Annie: Norwegian singer Annie says this tune is about a holiday affair between her and the title character. As always, Fred Falke doesn't disappoint. "Oh Anthonio it's been nearly one year since our Rio... Was I ever more than  just a face in the crowd? Did you even know my name? Did you ever really care?" I Remember - Deadmau5 ft. Kaskade: Progressive house at it's best with two of my faves. Note, Deadmau5 sounds like "dead mouse". "Hold to the love that you know You don't have to give up to let go. Remember how you pulled me through. I remember." At The Edge Of This Mountain (Club Mix)  - Mango and Aqua Diva: "I heard you cry for a distant love that will never come back." A simple song that copies that progressive sound that seems to be flourishing. But I still love it. Stars Collide (Timothy Allan Remix) - Damien S. feat. Femke: Easily one of my fave tunes on this set. Find the equally great Loverush UK mix on my previous set Hiding All The Stars. Choice (Dennis Sheperd Remix)- Michael Angelo Feat. Marcie: "Sometimes we hold on too long. Sometimes we cling to things that really are hurtful. Sometimes we don’t see what’s obvious. Sometimes we don’t know we have a choice." Vocal trance at it's best! I Feel Love (Original Mix) - Rhythm Masters, MYNC, Wynter Gordon: You know the original by Donna Summer. What else can be said. Just perfect! Amazing Grace (The Sharp Boy's Extended Club Mix) - Boy George feat. Ana Lains: I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a Boy George tune. Sharp Boy's turn a very good original mix into a stomper house tune. Throw in that Ana vocal sample and Boy himself and it's suddenly fantastic. Could be a fave of the year. "It was just was just another ordinary day. How could you know your life was going to change? You need amazing grace." Acapella (Dave Aude Remix) - Kelis: I had ignored this tune for a few months. I'm not much into R&B, Kelis is exactly that, and I admit to a prejudice toward most popular singers. However, my friend Nandi introduced me to this remix and I couldn't help but to fall in love with it thanks to Dave Aude.

The eleventh episode of Couch Surfing, is over-stuffed with equal measures of both pain and pleasure. John loses a little piece of his soul, having watched Hostel Part 2. After a twenty minute rant about the works of Eli Roth, John and Scott go into joyous praise over Martian Child. They talk about the news of Bryan Singer having another go at Superman, which leads into a discussion about Kate Bosworth, followed by Scott getting a homework assignment. John suggests his casting of Chris Evans in Y: The Last Man. Scott expresses his love for the works of Amy Sherman-Palladino, but expresses mostly disgust with The Return Of Jezebel James and lead actress, Parker Posey. Thankfully, the two of them seem to be madly in love with Lauren Ambrose, so it balances out. Rob Thomas is bringing his show Cupid back to ABC, but he's also been hired by The CW to revamp the iconic, teen drama series, Beverly Hills 90210. Confusion and morbid curiosity ensues. Plus, answering e-mail from Wichita, Kansas. The following artists can be heard in this episode:  The Dust Brothers, Say Hi To Your Mom, Ministry, John Carpenter, Sigur Ros, Guster, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Aimee Mann, Stars, Christian Burns, Smashing Pumpkins, Mika, Elvis & JunkieXL, Dashboard Confessional, Shiny Toy Guns, Marvin Gaye, John E.
