Lisa Kudrow returns to Club Random for a second conversation with Bill Maher, and the Friends star proves once again why she's one of Hollywood's sharpest and most refreshingly un-Hollywood voices.Lisa reflects on The Comeback Season 3, playing a woman the industry keeps underestimating, her years at The Groundlings, and the acting teacher who taught her never to take rejection personally. Bill shares the most humiliating story of his sitcom career, working alongside Sam Kinison as drugs, chaos, and misplaced blame turned the set into a nightmare. The two compare disastrous early drug experiences, debate whether AI will reshape creativity or destroy it, discuss why Hollywood keeps making the same mistakes, and somehow spend ten hilarious minutes dissecting Spartacus. Oh—and did Lisa Kudrow just casually reveal that a Romy and Michele's High School Reunion sequel might actually be happening? Support our Advertisers: Get bugs out of your house with Pestie. Everyone knows the song. "Hang Down Your Head, Tom Dooley" became one of the biggest folk hits in American history. But the real story behind the music is far darker than the lyrics ever admitted. In the mountains of post-Civil War North Carolina, a love triangle fueled by jealousy, betrayal, disease, and old family grudges ended with a young woman buried in a shallow grave and a handsome Confederate veteran standing on the gallows. Tonight, we separate the legend from the truth and uncover the haunting story of Tom Dula and Laura Foster. Send us Fan MailThis is one of those episodes in life that descend upon you like a mosquitoe that just keeps buzzing around. You can either let it ruin your night's sleep or you can view it as an opportunity. I chose to turn it into an anecdote. By the way, there was a time, not long ago, when there were people called "operators." They were very helpful and were always available to help find a number or to reach a person. In time, the phone companies decided they could be replaced by on-line information. Then they started charging for on-line information. That is why some of you who are younger may be slightly confused by the "operator" aspect of this story.

It's important to be reminded of the realities that even one person in the world doing the right thing can make a big difference....On this episode we dive into a fascinating documentary that hit home in ways which we never expected as it now hits home for the masses on VOD Platforms. It's time for 'This Ordinary Thing'.A holocaust documentary explores the heroism, bravery and self-sacrifice of non-Jewish people throughout Europe who risked their very lives to hide Jewish strangers, a powerful reminder that one person can make a difference.Simply a cavalcade of true to life testimonials brought to life from some powerful readings by some of the biggest actors today with the images of the realities of the past staring us in the face,I had the pleasure of talking with director Nick Davis about the origins of it all and so very much more.'This Ordinary Thing' is on VOD platforms now.
Amy Griffin's bestselling memoir The Tell was celebrated by Oprah and Reese Witherspoon as a powerful story of recovered memories, trauma, and healing, until a lawsuit was filed more recently. Griffin's attorney has defended her and called the lawsuit bogus, saying “we look forward to exposing these meritless claims in court, as well as the deeply flawed New York Times reporting that is at the center of it. Owen Hanson went from a disciplined kid in Redondo Beach to a USC walk-on football player surrounded by celebrities, pro athletes, and power — before one bad decision became the rush he chased for years. In this raw conversation with Randall Kaplan, Owen reveals the true story behind **Netflix's The Cocaine Quarterback**, his rise from campus hustles to a global drug and gambling operation, his connection to the Sinaloa cartel, and the prison sentence that forced him to rebuild his life.Owen Hanson's story is not just a crime story — it is a story about ambition, insecurity, adrenaline, ego, consequences, and redemption.Randall Kaplan sits down with Owen for a gripping Part 1 conversation that begins with Owen's childhood in Redondo Beach, including his father's strict discipline, his parents' separation, and the early emotional wounds that shaped his identity. Owen opens up about feeling abandoned, learning not to cry, and channeling pain into sports, competition, and survival. From there, the conversation moves into Owen's earliest signs of entrepreneurial instinct — including a childhood gambling hustle with quarters and lunch bets — before tracing how those same instincts later became dangerous when mixed with money, status, and the need to belong. The episode also dives into Owen's rise at USC, where he became a walk-on football player during one of the most iconic eras in college football. Surrounded by celebrities, athletes, parties, and status, Owen explains how access became power — and how that power slowly turned into a criminal network.Randall and Owen then unpack the expansion from campus dealing to a sports betting business, then to international money movement, cartel connections, Australia, cocaine, laundering schemes, and the moment everything began closing in.Timestamps00:00 - The moment Owen realized he was in too deep00:42 - How a USC athlete became connected to the Sinaloa cartel01:52 - The childhood wound Owen says shaped everything07:00 - The 11-year-old hustle that revealed his future instincts10:54 - The line between strategy and manipulation16:47 - The USC setback that sent Owen to Tijuana21:08 - The first lie that gave him the rush he chased for years23:16 - How Owen became the only non-scholarship player to make the USC football team25:11 - Inside the USC football celebrity machine36:16 - The gambling customer who changed Owen's life forever42:38 - The million-dollar-a-day offer that pulled him overseas1:36:39 - How prison became the beginning of Owen's redemptionAbout Owen HansonOwen Hanson is a former USC athlete, entrepreneur, public speaker, and the subject of the Netflix documentary “The Cocaine Quarterback”, produced by Mark Wahlberg. After walking on to the USC football team during one of the most iconic eras in college football, Owen's life took a dramatic turn as he became involved in illegal sports gambling, drug trafficking, and cartel-linked money movement. He was ultimately sentenced to 21 years in federal prison and served 10 years before being released early. Today, Owen speaks publicly about the consequences of his choices, the psychology of addiction to risk and status, and the difficult path toward accountability, growth, and redemption.About Randall KaplanRandall Kaplan is a serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist, professional coach, and the host of In Search of Excellence. In honor of Pride 2026, Harley sits Em and guest referee Brie Montoya down to tell them the story of forgotten San Francisco promotion Incredibly Strange Wrestling! In 1995 a group of untrained wrestlers in a transmission repair shop put on bootleg lucha libre masks and adopt names like The Man From M.O.N.K. and Chango Loco, fighting each other between sets from local punk bands, while fans hurl corn tortillas at their head. Within a few years they'll be featured in The New York Times and Teen People, tour Europe, attract members of Green Day and Limp Bizkit to their shows, and draw the ire of the Church of Scientology. How did it all happen?
This week on the Rick Flynn Presents worldwide podcast is another edition of our ongoing "Strong Women Series" featuring author and award-winning film maker PAULINE STEINHORN.This true story of a Jewish mother and daughter is a testament to courage, devotion, and the fragile thread of hope that sustained them. Amid cruelty and terror, they also encounter moments of humanity.Throughout it all, both cling to memories of the River Kamienna, where they once danced, played music, and believed in a future. For Bronia and Hajuta, the river is more than a memory. It is a promise that one day they might return home."Seldom do writers on the Holocaust have access to diaries from both a mother and her daughter. With these materials in hand, Pauline Steinhorn crafted a wonderful book about her mother and grandmother, retelling, often in their own voices, the story of their struggles." -Dr. Michael Berenbaum, Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies, American Jewish UniversityContact: www.PaulineSteinhorn.netBuy this book wherever books are sold including Amazon & Barnes and Noble

Bill Maher sits down with Jeff Dunham, the world's most successful ventriloquist and one of the highest-grossing comedians of all time, for a conversation that goes well beyond comedy. From their Johnny Carson debuts to decades spent on the road, the two swap stories about success, audiences, and the strange realities of show business. Jeff shares what it's like performing the same act in places as different as Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv, while Bill weighs in on modern politics, free speech, and the cultural shifts that have transformed comedy. Along the way, they get into Gen Z's aversion to capital letters, the disappearance of common sense, and why comedians with props still don't get the credit they deserve. Spencer Pratt joins Bill Maher on Club Random for a conversation that's equal parts mayoral campaign launch, Los Angeles postmortem, and classic Spencer Pratt reinvention tour. Spencer explains why losing his home in the Palisades fire pushed him to consider a run for mayor, lays out his ideas for homelessness, public safety, and city government, and makes the case that he might be exactly the unconventional leader Los Angeles needs—or at least the one willing to talk about it the most. Along the way, Spencer reflects on life after The Hills, receiving death threats, protecting his family, losing a thriving crystal business during the pandemic, and finding a new sense of purpose while somehow turning nearly every conversation into a campaign stop. Watch this episode ad-free by joining the ITBR Patreon! patreon.com/ivorytowerboilerroom-----To kick off Pride month, I'm joined with writer and historian Hugh Ryan whose new book "My Bad: A Personal History of the Queer 90s and Beyond" is the central subject of our conversation! We first get into a discussion about his informative and humorous podcast "Queer History 101" that he co-hosts with performer Peppermint (who should return to The Traitors, but that's a conversation for another episode)! Peppermint and Hugh work so well together because Peppermint is an expert at the current political moment for trans and queer folks, which balances Hugh's slightly more introverted (his terminology haha) historical research. Definitely listen to it after hearing our conversation! We discuss how Hugh's book combines personal memoir with cultural history and how his cover (featuring an ancient Greek statue and cassette tape) represents the analog to digital transition that happens from the 1990s to the early 2000s. The 90s was the last pre-digital era, and Hugh argues that 90s nostalgia among Gen Z and millennials stems primarily from remembering a time before we all were living in a constant age of connectivity (when everyone had their cell phones on them at all times). Hugh talks about what it was like growing up in the 90s where queer life existed in physical spaces like the gayborhood (featuring bars, bookstores, and clubs). What can we learn from Hugh's book about how to live in a digital world while also recognizing the importance of physical spaces? Bill Maher welcomes legendary singer-songwriter Paul Anka for a conversation packed with stories that sound almost too wild to be true. From helping bring The Beatles to America before Beatlemania exploded, to partying with the Rat Pack in steam rooms full of Vegas showgirls, to learning of JFK's assassination while performing behind the Iron Curtain in communist Poland, Anka has lived a life that reads like historical fiction. But this isn't just Hollywood lore and old Vegas chaos. Bill and Paul dig into the craft of songwriting: why the simplest melodies last forever, what made Frank Sinatra both magnetic and impossible, and how Barry White could seduce a room with a single note. Anka also opens up about reinventing himself with his cult-classic Rock Swings album, surviving massive cultural shifts across generations, and why true artists never stop evolving. Bill Maher sits down with Black Eyed Peas frontman and tech innovator will.i.am for a wildly unpredictable conversation about AI, creativity, and the future of humanity. From teaching AI and “agentic systems” at ASU to debating hallucinating chatbots and whether aliens are already here, will.i.am challenges Bill's fears about technology while admitting the next decade could get chaotic if humans don't become more humane. The two also get into cancel culture, why the Black Eyed Peas pulled “Let's Get Retarded” from streaming platforms, China vs. America, and generational anxiety. Will also opens up about the panic attack that changed his life after smoking weed in 1993 and why education, not outrage, is the real solution to inequality. In 1959, a quiet missionary village in Papua New Guinea became the site of one of history's most astonishing UFO encounters—where a priest and his flock not only witnessed a hovering craft but exchanged waves with the humanoid figures aboard.EPISODE BLOG PAGE (includes sources and full transcript): https://weirddarkness.com/PriestAndUFOFEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: The English and Americans aren't the only ones with vampire problems – in China they have a nasty vampire that is also a master of disguise. (Jiangshi, The Vampire) *** Papua New Guinea had an avalanche of UFO sightings in the late 1950s – and one of the most infamous involved a priest and his parish. (Father William and the Flying Saucer) *** “It looked like a baby's body with long arms and legs.
