Scott began his greenkeeping career not long out of year 10 at school on Sydney's Northern Beaches in an era when it wasn't unrealistic to wear thongs and no shirt working in the hot summer sun out on course. Yes, this is Australia! Scott had the privilege of learning and working under some of, not only Sydney's, but Australia's leading greenkeeping professionals. After a long start to his career at Manly Golf Club under people such as John Odell, it was soon time to take the reigns for himself and he landed the superintendent's role at Mona Vale Golf Club, still on the Northern Beaches.Scott spent a number of years working on course before things would take a turn through some challenging times with committee members and he decided it was time to move away from Mona Vale and working directly with turf. Scott took on a role as a sales rep for an industry company which he would continue for many years learning lots of different things from "the other side". Eventually falling out of favour with the sales side of the industry Scott gravitated back to working hands on with turf but it was a bumpy ride before an opportunity presented itself to be a greenkeeper at Hamilton Island Golf Club in the Whitsundays of North Queensland. This chat has everything and them some in it. I went to Hamilton Island to sit down with Scott for this chat and he doesn't disappoint. We talk about everything from long lost types of machinery, reminisce about old colleagues and peers, discuss what it means to be a team on course, and then there's the travelling around the world for golf, a brush with Clint Eastwood working at Congressional for the US Open, and of course an insight into Hamilton Island Golf Club and the challenges of the current weather conditions. This is a wild and fun ride so get your six point racing harness on and strap in!You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - thegolfinggreenkeeper@gmail.comPeople and places mentioned in this podcast:Hamilton Island Golf ClubManly Golf ClubMona Vale Golf ClubTerrey Hills Golf and Country ClubSussex Inlet Golf ClubMollymook Golf ClubCongressional Country ClubCypress Point Club - Monterey Peninsula GolfPebble Beach Golf LinksPasatiempo Golf ClubDr. Alister MacKenzie - The Alister MacKenzie SocietyMarion Hollins - Marion Hollins Memorial ProjectSt Andrews LinksRoyal Troon Golf ClubCarnoustie Golf LinksBarnbougleEP.63 Keeper of the Greens - Brad HoleEP.70 Keeper of the Greens - Pat WilsonEP.127 Keeper of the Greens - Mark SpraggsEP.135 Steve's Random Special Guest - Mike O'Keeffe (Ohio State Program)

U.S. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania remains in a Pittsburgh hospital after a heart episode caused him to fall and injure his head on Thursday. After a 135-day budget stalemate, Pennsylvania finally has a budget. It's an agreement born of compromise, including the state withdrawing from a multi-state compact whose goal was to limit the emission of fossil fuels. Pennsylvania’s new state budget is bringing relief to nonprofits and social-service agencies after a months-long impasse put many on the brink. For more than four months, organizations providing homelessness, mental health, and addiction services operated without state payments. That led to some cutting programs or relying on emergency credit to make payroll. An Election Day poll book error left out third-party voters in Chester County and forced thousands to cast provisional ballots. The Chester County Board of Elections has established a timeline on its investigation. Health officials in Philadelphia are warning recent air travelers about a possible measles exposure earlier this week. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is teaming up with the state Attorney General to go after motorists who fail to pay tolls on the Turnpike. A new report shows the US Open golf championship held near Pittsburgh in June generated nearly $290 million for Pennsylvania's economy. It's the end of an era, as the U.S. Mint has officially ended production of the penny. The last of the one cent coins were struck Wednesday at the US Mint in Philadelphia, where the country’s smallest denomination coins have been produced since 1793, a year after Congress passed the Coinage Act. Why not? Because you can't afford to split the table at the club on Friday night." - Vivian TuVivian Tu pulls back the curtain on something most people never talk about: why hard work and even elite credentials aren't enough to build real wealth. She walks through the brutal reality of class barriers with stories from Wall Street, where they literally have different names for people who are technically good at their jobs versus those who were born knowing which fork to use. The Harvard example hits hard because it exposes how even at the peak of merit-based achievement, you can still be locked out of the rooms where wealth actually happens. Not because you're not smart enough or didn't work hard enough, but because you can't afford to split a dinner bill at the club. She talks about proximity to wealth as learning a completely different language, one that teaches you not just who to know but how deals get discussed, how real wealth presents itself, and the tiny cultural signals that separate people who grew up with money from those performing wealth. What makes this conversation valuable is how practical Vivian gets about navigating these realities. She explains how her own wealthy friends opened doors to opportunities she never could have accessed otherwise, from US Open tickets on a bank's dime to connecting with the right business managers and accountants. But more than that, she teaches you how to spot the difference between real wealth and fake rich, breaking down the fundamental truth that people with actual money aren't trying to impress you. This isn't about becoming bitter or cynical about class barriers. It's about understanding the game well enough to play it smarter, recognizing that the path to wealth exists for anyone but looks completely different depending on where you start and who you learn from along the way.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Despite being the child of two professional tennis players, Makenna Jones was never forced to play the game. Furthermore, she hated tennis as she never felt good enough, felt her standard was so high and didn't have fun playing the game. Ironically, when her family moved and she was without a soccer club, she decided to choose tennis. Makenna often felt tremendous stress and pressure to win every match which typically led to panic, negative thought spirals and very critical thoughts about herself. However, when she focused on having fun, her performance excelled. She played for five years at UNC Chapel Hill (2017-2021), earning a top singles ranking of #2 and a doubles ranking of #1. She won 4 ACC titles and 3 National Indoor titles. She also made it to the professional level reaching a career-high ranking of No. 236 in singles and No. 107 in doubles and played in some of the world's biggest tournaments, including the US Open, Wimbledon, Indian Wells BNP, and Miami Open. Makenna shares how her mindset played a key role in both her performance and her rocky relationship with her sport. It wasn't until she read the classic sports psychology book, "The Inner Game of Tennis" where she learned how to try less and let her body do what it already can do. Through her ups and downs, she has learned to get through struggle with grace, joy and gratitude. @kennajones14

Almost 2 years ago to the day Dan Evans and I chatted via Zoom- I was in New York, he in Stockholm. He was ranked around 35 in the world, getting ready to play the Swedish Open. That summer he won Washington, got to a career high 21, and had dazzled the tennis community with his play against Carlitos Alcaraz at the US Open and then again in China. Since that moment he has faced multiple injuries, incredibly difficult draws, and the mere reality of the pro tennis tour, where week in and week out every player, on any given day, is a threat. But he's also had incredible moments mixed into this challenging stretch including a remarkably fun ride in the Paris Olympics with Andy Murray, an epic win in the longest match in US Open history, and just this past grass court season, wins over Tiafoe and Tommy Paul in consecutive weeks. Dan and I had an earnest chat, and he pulled no punches. By going back in time we hit many of the tour's water cooler topics; the quality of this generation, ball quality, surface speeds and the absolute lack of stylistic variety amongst his peers. On this episode of The Adam Carolla Show, Adam kicks things off by sounding off on a bizarre story about a woman who discovered swastika-shaped tiling in her basement and is now suing the home seller for not disclosing it. Adam calls out the performative outrage behind her lawsuit and shares his own frustrations with the culture of virtue signaling. He also plays a clip from one of his recent vlogs, where he visited Home Depot and criticized the city of Malibu for its overly restrictive regulations regarding the cutting of pressure-treated lumber. In the news, Elisha Krauss joins Adam to cover the biggest trending headlines, starting with Ilhan Omar's explosive financial disclosures revealing a net worth of up to $30 million—despite her repeated claims that she is “not a millionaire.” They also react to the retirement announcement of one of the Democrats' longest-serving House members, and break down the viral moment when Polish CEO Piotr Szczerek snatched a signed hat from a child at the US Open. Szczerek has since issued a public apology, but Adam and Elisha question whether that's enough to undo the bad optics of the viral footage.Later, author Stayton Bonner and private investigator Joe Ford stop by to discuss The Million-Dollar Car Detective: Inside the Worldwide Hunt for a Stolen $7 Million Car. Joe and Stayton recount the incredible real-life heist of a 1938 Talbot-Lago T150C-SS Teardrop coupe—one of the rarest and most beautiful cars in existence—and the decades-long investigation that followed. They share how the trail went cold for years before Joe got a tip that reignited the search, leading to an international chase involving the FBI, Interpol, and a global crime ring. Along the way, Adam gets Joe's take on other legendary missing cars, including James Dean's infamous Porsche.Get it on.
