Laura came from a family that had the military in their blood. Her father had been in the guards, and she wanted to follow his military footsteps but become a dog handler in the veterinary corp . However, when she joined the army in 2006, she was identified as having special awareness and sufficient confidence to become a member of the Royal Logistics Corp …. As a tank transporter! Laura was trained to Drive Oshkosh Trucks moving 62 Tonne Tanks across Europe.Laura was never trained to drive the tank but was taught to disable the tank if there was a compromise. Much to her disappointment she was never deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. She describes herself as a tracksuit soldier where she would take part in adventure training and skiing.Being a female in a male dominated world was difficult and it took an incident on a training exercise that assisted with acceptance. She was selected to undertake peace keeping duties in Cyprus where she would escort dignitaries in the buffer zone. Laura was barracked in the iconic Leda Palace Hotel .Laura started a family and decided to leave the military. She split with her partner and moved back to Devon. She was convinced by former colleagues to join the MPGS and started at Portsmouth and discovered that the MPGS had working dogs in Wattisham so applied and moved to Suffolk with her daughter and Cavalier King Charles. It was here that she met her partner. Her experience at Wattisham wasn't the best and she describes the atmosphere as filled with misogyny and decided leave the military to form her own business. She now has her own security business that specialises in providing working dogs to a variety of roles. She says that she has changed her rifle for a dog.Laura acquired a Dutch herder crossed with a Malinois called Nala. She describes the Nala as being a Ferrari compared to a Vauxhall Corsa. Chris Martin served in the Scotland, Edinburgh Mission from October of 2001 through October of 2003. Chris comes on and shares how his decision to serve a mission truly shaped his life. During his mission, he met J.K. Rowling his 2nd day in Scotland, broke a big toe during a football match, and destroying a Vauxhall Corsa's oil pan attempting to blow through a monster puddle. Chris also shares about his early retirement from law enforcement due to a heart condition that he learned of after an extreme physical fitness competition. Chris currently lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with his wife and their 4 children. Recorded April 6, 2023
Imagine delegating your decisions to a group of people online, some of whom are total strangers. Imagine sharing the most intimate parts of your life in order to get their approval. Imagine answering your personal problems in the same way a bank asks its shareholders to vote on corporate outcomes. This is the life chosen by Mike Merrill. Since 2008 - when he created 100,000 shares of himself and sold them at $1 each through his website, KMikeyM - he has asked his ‘investors' for advice on his choice of romantic partner, diet and body art. This is not for a TV show. It's not for a book deal. It's for real. In this conversation with Olly, Mike traces back his unconventional lifestyle to the DIY art scene in Portland,Oregon; his brush with corporate share-prices whilst seated at the front desk of a trucking company; and the anti-corporate activism with which he spices up his dates… ____________________ Meanwhile, Ollie Peart has decamped to Camberwell for this month's Zeitgeist, in an attempt to approximate the trend for ‘immersive' exhibitions. With a budget totalling £50. Armed with an Oculus headset, a projector and a hacksaw, can Ollie convince Olly of the merits of experiential art? And are interactive super-exhibits the future for museums and galleries? Warning: includes the return of Captain Spronk. _____________________ Elsewhere, we revisit a classic edition of the Foxhole, where Alix Fox advises a horny student on his three-times-per-night escapades. From the comfort of a Vauxhall Corsa. Finally, music this month comes from ethereal groovster Eliza Rose, and her ace new track, ‘Better Love'. _____________________ Support for this episode comes from: Listeners like you. Buy us a beer
Michele Menini served in the Scotland, Edinburgh Mission from November of 2003 through November of 2005. Michele starts his episode by giving us a walking tour around the Rome, Italy Temple ground, where he is the head gardener. As we get into the mission, Michele shares about his intent to keep a strong Italian accent as a great conversation starter, which worked really well. He tells fun memories from each area, including making a fake "Nessie" and floating it down the River Ness, fully renovating a member's bathroom, off-roading in the Vauxhall Corsa (and getting stuck) multiple times, and breaking down the door of his own flat when the keys were forgotten. Guest hosted by Andre Zinkovski. Michele currently lives in the countryside just outside of Rome, Italy, with his wife and their son. Recorded March 17, 2023
Make yourself a brew because this is a long one… Join me as I explain the Volvo 740 Turbo Saga. This car popped up for sale recently, and it took my back a few years to when I owned it - twice. My Volvo 740 Turbo Estate story includes a very ropey Ford Fiesta Zetec S, angry Brother Geoff, some left foot braking, Drew Pritchard in a Volvo teaching 3 dodgy dudes in dodgy tracksuits in a dodgy Audi S3 a lesson, a very-not-road-legal VW Caddy Pick Up Truck, a Mercedes W123 tow truck and a swing from a huge profit to a huge loss. There's also a story-within-a-story where I explain how I bought a Vauxhall Corsa for £85 at auction and got laughed at by everyone who was there. It's another roller coaster ride and this time it's 100% true!
Welcome to 1993. Autumn, to be exact. And how was it all looking?Well, it wasn't really baggy like 1990, or rave-y like 1991, but it wasn't Britpoppy like 1995. It was all a bit…well, who knows? Can we say, a bit of a pop hinterland? And were there any clues across our ever reliant pop culture landscape for how ‘93 had shaped up? Well in a year that saw the launch of two modern icons - the Vauxhall Corsa and QVC - actually, perhaps, we'll come back to them later. Not!Back to the hinterland then. We had the ever reliant and still relatively imperial Neil and Chris, resplendent in their dayglo uniforms marching to the Village People in Moscow. Or perhaps your CD single (with 6 extra dance mixes) was celebrating the glorious invasion of Europop of Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited and Haddaway. Or maybe you were, frankly too cool for school and had bunked off to the shimmering r'n'b from SWV, Janet and Eternal. And where was Indie? What even was indie in 1993?One thing is for certain, your musical tribe in 1993 was considerably, undeniably, very untribal. But isn't waiting for the Next Big Thing - and spotting the red herrings along the way - so terribly exciting? So if it's autumn ‘93, it's definitely time for NOW That's What I Call Music 26! And joining us for this excursion back 30 (!) years, none other than author and chief rock & pop critic for The Times Will Hodgkinson. Will selects his highlights from the wonderfully packaged 40 Top Chart Hits as well exploring the wider pop culture landscape of 1993. Along the way, we discover Will's inspiration for his, quite frankly wonderful exploration of 1970's pop ‘In Perfect Harmony' and how 1973 and 1993 really had a lot more in common than you may think. We also take excursions into some of 1993's other memorable musical moments, courtesy of Bjork, London's eclectic club scene and (unashamedly) Bowie's Buddha of Suburbia (with a real cameo from Will, no less!)Expect starring (and a few understudy) roles from Meat Loaf, The Shamen, Lawrence from Denim, Stakka Bo (only a bit Stereo MCs), Crustys, Frank Farian, Hacky sacks(!) and some illicit colour photocopying - you will be shocked! All of this and much, much more! And find out why the Spin Doctors (amongst a few others) will not be returning our calls. With any new technology that comes to the market, there will always be criticism – with electric vehicles (EVs) being no exception. From EVs ‘not having enough range' to ‘the battery taking ages to charge', people have a lot of inaccurate perceptions surrounding this particular vehicle genre. In response, the motoring experts at Vanarama have debunked five common myths that stop motorists from switching to an EV. Top five most common EV misconceptions, debunked Myth #1: They cost too much The truth: EV owners can save up to £3,108 per year Often people won't pick an electric vehicle for their next car as ‘it costs too much', however, did you know that you can lease an electric car for £149 per month? And that switching to an electric vehicle could save you up to £3,108 per year? This research was uncovered by Vanarama and is based on the following stats: Low-emissions zones could save EV owners £2,100 per year Low-emissions zones often referred to as LEZs, are there to encourage owners of highly polluting vehicles to stop driving through inner-city areas by charging them a fee if they do so. Vanarama's research found that EV drivers could save £175 a month through LEZ exemption, which equates to £2,100 per year and £8,400 per average total vehicle ownership (four years). Not paying for fuel could save EV owners £858 per year No longer needing to pay for fuel at a petrol station could save EV owners £72 per month, which equals £858 per year and £3,432 per average total vehicle ownership. The fuel savings, from. NimbleFins, include the cost of charging an EV (£342 per year), based on the average British driver's yearly mileage of 7,600 miles. Car tax exemption could save EV owners £150 per year Under the current rules, car tax doesn't apply to all-electric cars. This means EV owners could save £13 per month, £150 per year, and £600 per average total vehicle ownership from not having to pay car tax. These tax calculations are based on the UK's best-selling car of 2021, the sub-40k Vauxhall Corsa. Myth #2: The range on electric cars isn't good The truth: The average EV only needs to be charged every 10 days Whilst this may have been the case 10 years ago or more, the average pure electric vehicle now has a range of 197 miles on a single charge. With the average motorist driving 20 miles per day, this means you only need to charge your car every 10 days. However, if you're still worried about the range, there are some tips and tricks to squeeze more miles out of a single charge: Remove unnecessary items from the car – Naturally, the heavier the vehicle means the range will deplete more than if your car was lighter. Avoid high speeds – Always drive to the speed limit and take it easy when accelerating. Make the most of regenerative braking – Anticipate the road ahead and ease off the brakes to make your battery last longer. Myth #3: There aren't enough charging points The truth: There are 34,000 public electric charging points across the UK – and you can get one for free According to Zap-Map, as of August 2022, there are nearly 34,000 public electric charging points in the UK – which are spread across more than 20,500 locations. This is a 34% increase in the number of charging devices since August 2021. These figures show how many electric charging points in the UK there are that are part of the country's public EV charging infrastructure. However, they do not include the many charge points installed at home or at workplace locations, which are estimated to be more than 400,000. What's more, if you lease with Vanarama, you get a free charging point installed worth £1,049. Or if you're out and about, you can download one of the many charging apps which help you locate the nearest charging points. 15% of public charging points are free too, according to Zap-Map. Myth #4: The battery takes ages to charge The truth: You can fully charge an EV in just 30 minutes with a rapid charger Whilst the charging times depend on the car and whic...

Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558852/2024-chevrolet-silverado-ev-unveiled/ - Like Lightning, Silverado EV pricing starts at just under $40,000 before government tax breaks. Unlike Lightning, which uses a familiar F-150 ladder frame, the Silverado EV makes a clean break from its petrol-powered Silverado stablemate with an all-new platform based on GM's 800-volt Ultium battery skateboard and capable of fast, 350-kW charging. It's the same architecture that cradles the Hummer EV — GMC's first foray into the e-pickup space. - The retail strategy will initially target premium EV buyers who also have the coin for, say, a $105k Mercedes EQS EV. Pickups like the Silverado High Country have become prized by luxury items in recent years, though the RST EV will cost $40,000 more than a fully-loaded V8-powered High Country. - he high-voltage platform rivals the Porsche and Lucid Air luxury cars and can add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes at a fast charger. The Chevy's 400-mile range bests Lightning by 100 miles. - A flying buttress C-pillar — reminiscent of the 2013 Chevy Avalanche pickup — frames the 5' 11” bed that can be extended to 9 feet (10' 10” with the tailgate down) by dropping the Multi-Flex Midgate wall and window behind the rear, crew-cab passengers. It's not as radical looking as the angular Tesla Cybertruck, but it's distinct from traditional, boxy Silverados. The gate can be split 60/40 — or drop flat with storage for the removable window. The rear Multi-Flex Tailgate offers multi-functionality like walk-in steps or a work table. - The Silverado EV will be assembled alongside the Hummer EV at the Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, the plant retooled with an EV-focused, $2.2 billion investment. Original Source : https://eu.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/general-motors/2022/01/05/chevy-silverado-ev-brings-400-mile-range-bed-extender/9091520002/ HOW DOES THE 2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EV COMPARE TO OTHER ELECTRIC PICKUPS? - Chevy then plans to fill in the middle of the Silverado EV lineup with additional variants including the RST and Trail Boss, with prices ranging from $50,000 to $80,000 “or more” depending on equipment. - As for other electric pickups, the Ford F-150 Lightning will be available as a standard-range work truck for roughly $40,000, with extended-range versions starting at around $50,000 (all before options). The Rivian R1T will be priced from the high $60,000 to low $70,000 range to start, but the price can quickly escalate with options. The GMC Hummer EV pickup available at launch will be priced at more than $112,000, with cheaper versions coming in later years. When the Cybertruck was revealed, Tesla said it would cost between $40,000 and $70,000 depending on configuration, but like all Tesla prices, those are subject to change. GM later released a single photo showing it off in more detail. - We expect the Silverado EV Trail Boss to cost around $65,000 and it should be available along with other versions when the model is set to go into production next spring. · Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/559105/chevrolet-silverado-ev-trailboss-teased/ A $30,000 CHEVROLET EQUINOX EV SUV IS COMING - Forget the six-figure Silverado EV: the most exciting upcoming electric Chevrolet could be a far more attainable pair of SUVs. The automaker accompanied its electric pickup news at CES 2022 today with the confirmation that an Chevrolet Equinox EV SUV is coming, along with a larger Chevrolet Blazer EV SUV. - Both the Equinox EV SUV and the Blazer EV SUV will be arriving in the US in 2024, the former in the fall and the latter in the spring. - The Equinox EV SUV will be priced from around $30,000, Chevrolet says, plus destination and other fees, and before incentives. It'll be offered in both fleet and retail versions, too, including in LT and RS trims as Chevy showed off in its images today. As with the Silverado EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and GMC HUMMER EV, the Equinox EV will be based on GM's Ultium platform dedicated to electric vehicles. - What makes the news so important is just how strong a seller the existing Equinox is in Chevrolet's line-up, and among compact SUVs in general. It's the automaker's “second-highest selling brand nameplate” according to Steve Hill, Vice President at Chevrolet. NEW CAR REGISTRATION FIGURES SEPTEMBER 2021SMMT has released the UK's September New Car Registration figures and they are the lowest since September 1998. On the upside, it is the best month for battery electric vehicles. Tesla is the most registered, so a boat must have docked, with the Vauxhall Corsa being the top registered car year to date. On today’s podcast: Volvo XC40 Begins Production BMW ix3 goes in to production Citroen e-SpaceTourer and Peugeot e-Traveller available Jeep Renegade 4xe review Tesla to acquire German battery assembly maker What Does The Tesla Selfie Cam Capture? Tesla starts activating new charge port heater Tesla China Demand Is Higher Than Eve Electric car sales UK Lynk & Co’s compact SUV costs €500 a month All 2,200 Polestar 2 Delivered So Far Will Be Recalled Show #900 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 5th October. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. VOLVO XC40 BEGINS PRODUCTION "Volvo announced Thursday that production of its first fully electric vehicle, the XC40 T8 Recharge, has started in Ghent, Belgium." says Green Car Reports: "The electric SUV is bound for the U.S. starting late this year, and in terms of pricing, performance, and packaging, it’s shaping up to be one of the closest rivals yet to the Tesla Model Y. Volvo Cars North America told Green Car Reports and a group of journalists Thursday that while demonstration cars are likely to arrive at many dealerships in December, first deliveries won’t likely start until January. The Recharge was engineered and developed concurrently with the Polestar 2 by the same Volvo-led engineering teams in Sweden, and with the same designer, Thomas Ingenlath. Both models have 78-kwh (75-kwh usable) battery packs configured into a ‘T’ under the back seat and drive tunnel, plus front and rear 150-kw motors. Volvo promises a 0-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds for the 402-hp dual-motor vehicle, as well as an expected range of more than 200 miles." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1129821_2021-volvo-xc40-recharge-electric-suv-deliveries-by-january BMW IX3 GOES IN TO PRODUCTION "Unlike many other car makers, BMW has decided that the way to get punters in to electric cars is to make the electric bit a powertrain option – alongside ICCE, Hybrid and PHEV – in the belief that familiarity will be a bigger factor than novelty. That’s why the new BMW iX3, the BEV X3, is being built on the same production line as the ICE X3s in Shenyang, China. And production is now underway." according to CarsUK.net: "But despite production of the iX3 already starting, the UK is going to have to wait until summer 2021 for delivery, but if you do want to jump in to an iX3 you can order in the UK, despite the wait, but you’ll need quite deep pockets. The only models available to order are the iX3 Premier Edition which costs a thumping £62k, with the iX3 Premier Edition coming in at £65k." https://www.carsuk.net/electric-bmw-ix3-goes-in-to-production-but-still-wont-reach-the-uk-until-summer-2021/ CITROEN E-SPACETOURER AND PEUGEOT E-TRAVELLER AVAILABLE "Peugeot and Citroen are taking orders for their pure electric MPVs - the e-Traveller and e-SpaceTourer respectively. Both models share a platform and powertrain components, with a range of up to 143 miles on a charge quoted. Each use a 100 KW electric motor powered by a 50 kW battery. This is able to be charged at up to 7 kW AC or 100 kW from ultra-rapid DC charge points" according to Next Green Car: "The Peugeot e-Traveller seats up to eight passengers - two in the front with two rows of three seats behind - while the Citroen e-SpaceTourer seats up to nine. Retail customers will get an eight-seater configuration, but a Business trim is aimed at professional users, with three rows of three seats, alongside materials designed for added durability. Prices are available for Citroen's e-SpaceTourer, with Feel starting at £46,250 and Business from £45,600. Deliveries are expected to start in November." https://www.nextgreencar.com/news/9012/citroen-espacetourer-and-peugeot-etraveller-available-to-order/ JEEP RENEGADE 4XE REVIEW "Jeep’s first plug-in hybrid will certainly stir up some mild interest in certain circles – perhaps you’re a company car driver who likes a spot of greenlaning at the weekends? " says BBC's Top Gear: "first up is the Renegade 4xe (pronounced four-by-e, incidentally). You’ve got a 60bhp electric motor and 11.4kWh battery turning the rear wheels and a turbocharged 1.3-litre 4cyl petrol at the front that comes in two power outputs depending on trim level. It’s 4WD, but there’s no mechanical connection from front to back, it’s all achieved through electronic wizardry. It’s all very smoothly integrated and the car always keeps enough juice available to power the back wheels when the four-wheel drive is called upon. The Renegade 4xe will take basically whatever you throw under it right in its stride – a shame, because no one will ever use it. Jeep assures us hardcore trailheads will lap it up, but who wants to hold up a greenlaning party while you charge your batteries?" https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/jeep/renegade/13-turbo-4xe-phev-240-trailhawk-5dr-auto/first-drive TESLA TO ACQUIRE GERMAN BATTERY ASSEMBLY MAKER "Tesla Inc TSLA.O has agreed to acquire German ATW Automation, a supplier assembling battery modules and packs for the auto industry, a source familiar with the transaction said on Friday." according to a Reuters Reports today: "ATW, a subsidiary of Canadian ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc ATA.TO, was on the brink of liquidation due to a slump in orders, German media reported in September. ATS on Sept. 25 announced that certain assets and employees at one of its Germany-based units would be sold and transferred to a third party, without disclosing the name of the company. ATW, based in western Germany, has about 120 employees and has completed more than 20 battery production lines for international automakers, according to ATS’ website." https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-tesla-ats-automation-germany/tesla-to-acquire-german-battery-assembly-maker-source-idUSKBN26N2VG WHAT DOES THE TESLA SELFIE CAM CAPTURE? "A well known Tesla white hat hacker, known simply as “green” on Twitter (@greentheonly), has revealed — to some extent — what the Tesla selfie cam is watching out for. What’s the Tesla selfie cam? It’s a camera right behind the rearview mirror in a Tesla vehicle." writes CleanTechnica: "Elon Musk has said before that the selfie cam is not being used yet, and that it’s in the cars for when they become self-driving cars/robotaxis. Despite not being in use yet, though, “green” has identified what this sole interior camera is set up to watch and take notes about. Naturally, at a stage where the Tesla isn’t yet capable of 100% self-driving service unmonitored by a human, it could be useful to see if the driver’s eyes are closed or looking down away from the road. The system could then give a warning — perhaps a loud warning — that the driver should open their eyes or look up or else the car will pull over and park itself." https://cleantechnica.com/2020/10/05/what-does-the-tesla-selfie-cam-capture/ TESLA STARTS ACTIVATING NEW CHARGE PORT HEATER "Tesla has started activating the elusive new charge port heater in Model 3 and Model Y, but it’s unclear who has it in their Model 3." says Electrek: "Now Tesla Model 3 and Model Y owners are starting to receive an additional feature called “Charge Port Inlet Heater” in the update 2020.40. So far, only owners of recent Model 3 vehicles are reporting receiving the new features." Tesla Says: "Your car can now use the charge port inlet heater to help defrost the inside of the charge port. The charge port inlet heater can be activated in cold ambient temperatures by enabling preconditioning using the mobile app, activating the rear defrost button on the vehicle’s touchscreen, or preconditioning the vehicle using scheduled departure." https://electrek.co/2020/10/01/tesla-charge-port-heater-unclear-who-has-it/ TESLA CHINA DEMAND IS HIGHER THAN EVE "Tesla has seen a large rise in sales after introducing some price cuts for Model 3 in China. The price cut affected two variants from the MIC (Made In China) Model 3. The standard range plus version was reduced from ¥271,550 to ¥249,000. This is equivalent to a $3500 cut. The price cut for the long-range rear-wheel-drive version was of approximately $5000." reports Torque News: "Producing and delivering so many vehicles will definitely be an important logistical challenge and if Tesla is unable to keep up with the pace of orders customers will start becoming dissatisfied by long delivery times." https://www.torquenews.com/11663/tesla-china-demand-higher-ever-beijing-after-model-3-price-cuts ELECTRIC CAR SALES UK "The UK new-car market has suffered its worst September since twice-yearly plate changes were introduced, but as in previous months there was strong growth in the proportion of car sales that were electric or hybrid." says Driving Electric: "Pure-electric car sales went from 7,704 in September 2019 to 21,903 in September 2020 – a 184% increase. Year-to-date, 66,611 pure-electric cars have been sold in the UK so far in 2020, which is up from the 25,097 that had been sold by the same point in 2019. While the Tesla Model 3 sold strongly through lockdown, it has since fallen out of the overall top 10 most registered models. The Vauxhall Corsa (now available in pure-electric Corsa-e guise) took the top spot in July, slipped to fifth in August, but was back on top in September." https://www.drivingelectric.com/news/678/electric-car-sales-uk-near-7-market-share-september-2020 LYNK & CO’S COMPACT SUV COSTS €500 A MONTH "Car company Lynk & Co has finally revealed the details of its hybrid ownership model, which lets people subscribe to its Lynk & Co 01 compact SUV for €500 per month, with the option of renting the vehicle to other Lynk & Co members to begin earning that fee back." writes The Verge: "The company’s 01 hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars will begin shipping to European members in April. The €500 membership fee can also be split between multiple individuals, allowing a group of friends in the same city to share a single car. The monthly fee includes insurance and servicing by the Volvo dealer network. (Digital keys can also be shared with Volvo, to let its employees retrieve your car and return it when servicing is complete.) The monthly fee doesn’t cover the cost of fuel or electricity, however. Paid memberships can be canceled with one month’s notice." ALL 2,200 POLESTAR 2 DELIVERED SO FAR WILL BE RECALLED "We have already told you that Polestar 2 cars are stopping in mysterious circumstances. Drivers either get an error message or nothing at all, and their cars stop working. Nothing is able to reboot them, and the vehicles have to be towed for repair. Some are waiting for more than a month. The Swedish publication Dager Industri discovered the reason and that the company will recall all 2,200 units of the Polestar 2 delivered so far." says InsideEVs https://insideevs.com/news/447089/all-2200-polestar-2-delivered-recalled/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles You can listen to all 899 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. Show #797 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 2nd June 2020. PORSCHE CHAIRMAN IS 'OPTIMISTIC' ABOUT POST-COVID-19 TAYCAN SALES "Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG Oliver Blume, who remains confident that Porsche will not only weather the current economic storms, but can come out stronger." Reports Roadshow by CNET: "Blume said that Porsche sales in the first quarter were down approximately five percent, admitting the overall impact on the first half of the year will be "maybe more heavy." However, he said, there are signs of light. "[We're] looking optimistic[ally] towards the future, and the response we are getting from the market. The order intakes are coming up, so it's too early to predict if we will have at the end of the year a 10% effect." However, the Taycan remains sold out for all of 2020 and, with its release in China, Blume is again optimistic. "I think it was a perfect start for Porsche to the electric era." https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/porsche-coronavirus-taycan/ FIRST ALFA ROMEO ELECTRIC SUV DETAILS EMERGE "One of Alfa Romeo's upcoming new SUVs will be the production version of the Tonale compact SUV concept that debuted at Geneva last year. According to Autocar, the Alfa Romeo Tonale will be joined by a new compact electric SUV to get the company's sales performance back on track. This will also be the automaker's first-ever electric production vehicle, though it won't be its first electrified model: when the Tonale launches in 2021, it will be offered as a plug-in hybrid." According to CarBuzz: "In terms of size, Alfa Romeo's electric SUV will be positioned below the Tonale and have similar proportions to the Audi Q2. The Audi Q2 isn't sold in the US, so Alfa Romeo's compact SUV could be too small for the American market. While the Tonale will share the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the Jeep Compass, the electric Alfa Romeo will be the first FCA car to use technology gained from the merger with PSA. It's expected to utilize a version of PSA's eCMP platform that underpins electric versions of the Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2008, Vauxhall Corsa, and DS 3 Crossback." https://carbuzz.com/news/first-alfa-romeo-electric-suv-details-emerge THE ELECTRIC BIKES THAT COULD GENUINELY REPLACE YOUR CAR "because of the coronavirus pandemic our hunger for owning electric bikes has been increasing so much that many cycling outlets are reporting that they can't get new stock fast enough. A recent survey of 20,000 motorists by the Automobile Association in the UK revealed that 40% of people intended to drive less in the foreseeable future. Meanwhile demand on the other side of the Atlantic appears similarly enthusiastic." Reports Techradar: "There are plenty of recent additions to the ebike marketplace, including the funky folding bike that is the GoCycle GX, the great Ampler Curt all-rounder or the beefy Specialized Turbo Vado 4.0 that can justify you leaving the car at home altogether. If keeping costs down is the main issue for you then something like the Gtech Sport or the Gtech eBike City are good value starting points." https://www.techradar.com/news/the-electric-bikes-that-could-genuinely-replace-your-car BYD ENTERS EV PASSENGER CAR MARKET IN COLOMBIA "After BYD announced an expansion to Europe, now the Chinese company is starting electric car sales also in Colombia. That's another market outside China, so maybe at some point in the future BYD will enter the U.S. too?" Says InsideEVs. BYD Tang BEV 600D: 82.8 kWh battery up to 500 km (310 miles) NEDC and up to 600 km (373 miles) at constant low speed 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4-4.6 seconds depending on version 0-50 km/h (31 mph) in 1.9-2.0 seconds depending on version all-wheel drive system output 360 kW (two 180 kW and 330 Nm electric motors - one per axle) https://insideevs.com/news/426366/byd-enters-colombia-ev-passenger-cars/ TESLA STARTS DIGGING AT GIGA-BERLIN "Now that Tesla received approval for foundation work from the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment, the work has now apparently begun in the usual rapid Tesla-tempo. A new drone video shows the first excavation works." Writes electrive: "“…we can say that Tesla has broken ground now”, the Twitter-user wrote to the uploaded drone video. Excavators started digging a large pit during the Pentecost weekend just past. As yet, no word from Tesla on this. As with the clearing, Tesla is carrying out all work at its own risk: If the entire project is not approved, Tesla must remove the foundations at its own expense. It is not yet clear when the building application will be approved since the hearings on the 370 objections to the building project could not take place as planned in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic." https://www.electrive.com/2020/06/02/tesla-starts-digging-at-giga-berlin/ FALLING COSTS BRING AUTOS, POWER ‘ON THE VERGE’ OF THE BATTERY AGE "With a steady run of design improvements, analyst are now projecting the price of battery-powered engines to be on par with internal combustion engines within three years. Elon Musk, founder of the electric car maker Tesla, has suggested that point could come even sooner, telling analysts recently that a coming battery announcement by the company will “blow your mind.”" Reports Washington Chronicle: "Even Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette, hardly a foe of fossil fuels, is touting the lithium-ion battery’s ability to soon be deployed across the U.S. power grid. “I think we’re on the verge of solving grid-scale batteries,” he said in an interview earlier this month. But battery evangelists, citing the technological advances made over the past decade, maintain shifting the world’s transportation sectors to electric vehicles, while logistically challenging, is more than possible. Tesla’s next big announcement was scheduled to take place this week in Texas or New York, with reports the company is already able to produce a battery at a cost on par with internal combustion engines, which would allow Musk to reduce the price of his already best selling Model 3 electric vehicle to compete with gasoline models." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/energy/article/Falling-costs-bring-autos-power-on-the-15306554.php SUNCOR CEO SAYS ELECTRIC VEHICLES COULD DISRUPT OIL DEMAND AS SIGNIFICANTLY AS CORONAVIRUS "The shift to electric vehicles and other low-carbon technologies could disrupt crude oil demand on a similar scale to the coronavirus pandemic, Suncor Energy Inc’s chief executive said on Monday." Says The Globe and Mail: "The comments are a stark prediction in an industry that frequently downplays the impact of electrification and points to forecasts of rising global oil demand to justify new investment and pipeline expansions. Canada is the world’s fourth-largest oil producer and the sector accounts for 10.6 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product. The sector also faces mounting pressure from a growing number of investors who screen companies based on environmental, social and governance guidelines. Norway’s $1 trillion wealth fund in May blacklisted Suncor and other large oil sands producers for producing excessive greenhouse gas emissions." https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/industry-news/energy-and-resources/article-suncor-ceo-says-electric-vehicles-could-disrupt-oil-demand-as/ FRENCH ELECTRIC VEHICLE MARKET SHARE AT 7.5% IN MAY, 9.2% YEAR TO DATE "France saw a plugin electric vehicle market share of 7.5% in May 2020, triple the May 2019 result, in a steadily recovering overall auto market that is down 50% year on year (YoY). The cumulative 2020 EV result stands at 9.2% share." Says Max Holland for cleantechnica: "the Peugeot e-208, Renault Zoe, and Tesla Model 3 were the favourites. There’s an additional boost to the long-standing cash-for-clunkers program, with owners of older polluting vehicles (roughly pre-2006 petrols and pre-2011 diesels) able to get a €5000 trade-in bonus when buying a plugin electric vehicle. The boosted trade-in bonus is limited to a maximum of 200,000 vehicles, and has an income cap that ensures 75% of French households are eligible to participate. The trade-in bonus is stackable with the above incentives, for up to €12,000 off the price of a new BEV." https://cleantechnica.com/2020/06/02/breaking-french-electric-vehicle-market-share-at-7-5-in-may-9-2-year-to-date/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK Critics say EVs are on the for the rich, so what do you view as ‘affordable’ prices? It was a case of ‘typical Saints’ this weekend, as they conceded a last minute equaliser at Arsenal, in a game largely dominated by Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men. Ben Stanfield (Host), Lucy Highnett and Glen De La Cour reflect on the 2-2 draw - with a mixture of disappointment and encouragement - before previewing the ‘must win’ against Watford, which is next up at St. Mary’s. Speaking of ‘must wins’, Adam Leitch left the Daily Echo earlier this week, after 18 years service. Adam discusses finally moving on, some of his lows/highs reporting on Saints, Nicola Cortese banning the Daily Echo and, of course, his famous Vauxhall Corsa! Show #610 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 14th October 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Welcome to new Patreon PRODUCER HAROLD PLOEG PORSCHE EXTENDS ELECTRIC SPORTS CAR MODEL RANGE WITH THE TAYCAN 4S It was only in September that the new electric sports car from Porsche celebrated its high-profile premiere on three continents simultaneously. Now, the company is already presenting the third version of the sports saloon with the Taycan 4S, says a press release today. The new model is available with two battery sizes. Following the Taycan Turbo S and the Taycan Turbo, the Taycan 4S is therefore the new entry-level model in the series. A single-deck Performance battery with a total capacity of 79.2 kWh comes as standard. The two-deck Performance battery Plus familiar from the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo is optionally available. The total capacity here is 93.4 kWh. On the UK Porsche configurator the range is from 198 miles to 289 miles for the Performance battery. Price starts at £83,367. https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2019/products/porsche-taycan-4s-electric-sports-car-entry-level-model-18901.html Fred at Electrek said: "The smaller battery pack results in a range of 407 km (253 miles), and the bigger one should result in 463 km (288 miles) on a single charge based on the WLTP standard. The Taycan 4S with Performance battery Plus becomes the longest-range version of the Taycan. Both versions of the new Taycan 4S can accelerate from a standing start to 100 km/h in 4 seconds and have a top speed of 250 km/h. Porsche says that the new version will start at $103,800 in the US with the smaller battery pack and $110,000 with the Performance battery Plus." https://electrek.co/2019/10/14/porsche-taycan-4s-new-entry-level-battery-pack/ evo.co.uk says: "Separating the 4S from its Turbo counterparts are a few subtle design tweaks, ranging from new 19-inch Turbo S Aero wheels, red brake calipers, marginally less aggressive front and rear bumper designs and slightly raised suspension. Six-piston caliper brakes with 360mm discs are fitted at the front, with four-piston, 358mm units at the rear. Porsche’s 4D Chassis Control can also be found, alongside the same three-chamber adaptive air suspension as on the Turbo and Turbo S. Perhaps the biggest draw of the Taycan 4S will be its price. Starting from £83,367, it seems no less than a bargain when stacked up against the Turbo and Turbo S, with £32,491 sitting between it and the Turbo, and a staggering £55,459 with the Turbo S. Order books open today, and first deliveries are expected in January 2020. Orders for the VW ID.3, the group’s recently unveiled compact electric model, are already covering the production planned until mid-2020, Diess said." Diess: "“We do not expect a deterioration in margins. Our advantage is that all our brands have the same platform for electric products and the same batteries that we buy in China,”" https://www.reuters.com/article/us-volkswagen-chairman/volkswagen-ceo-says-electric-car-shift-wont-hurt-margins-paper-idUSKBN1WT0PP?feedType=RSS&feedName=businessNews&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+reuters%2FbusinessNews+%28Business+News%29 SINGULATO MOTORS COMPLETES NEW ROUND OF FUNDING CLOSE TO $100 MILLION "Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Singulato Motors received a capital injection from Japan’s Itochu Corp amounting to nearly $100 million on October 12, according to Reuters." according to PanDaily.com "Singulato could receive an additional “few hundreds of millions of dollars” from Itochu if the Chinese startup meets certain conditions. To receive the potential extra funding, Singulato would have to speed up development of its first model, a fully electric sport-utility vehicle called the iS6, and make proper preparations for an IPO, one of the people said. A Tokyo-based spokesperson said the Japanese company had recently made an additional investment in Singulato, but declined to specify the amount except to say it was a minor investment. Previously, the total funding of Singulato exceeded 17 billion yuan (~$2.4 billion). The company’s investors include Legend Star, Till Capital, Intel Capital, GX capital and other major financial and strategic investors." https://pandaily.com/singulato-motors-completes-new-round-of-funding-close-to-100-million/ GROUPE PSA REAFFIRMS UK ELECTRIFICATION STRATEGY "Speaking at the Automotive EV Conference (hosted by Three6Zero) held in Coventry on 8 October, UK Head of Electric Vehicles & Connected Services for Groupe PSA, Helen Lees discussed the brand’s electrification strategy, the future of the EV sector in the automotive industry and addressed investment and market potential." says Automotive Purchasing and Supplies: "In just two years, 15 new electrified vehicles will be launched across all brands in the Groupe PSA portfolio. These include a variety of passenger cars that are already available to order, new DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE, DS 7 CROSSBACK E-TENSE, all-new Peugeot e-208, 3008 SUV HYBRID4, all-new 508 HYBRID, Vauxhall Corsa-e and Grandland X Hybrid4. These will be joined later in 2020 by all-new Peugeot e-2008 and new Citroën C5 Aircross SUV Hybrid, whilst Groupe PSA will also extend its battery electric (BEV) offering on its award-winning LCV product from 2020 starting with the Citroën Relay and Peugeot Boxer." https://www.automotivepurchasingandsupplychain.com/news/18358/15/Groupe-PSA-reaffirms-UK-electrificaiotn-strategy-at-Automotive-EV-conference LABOUR PARTY PLEDGES TO BAN SALE OF NON-ELECTRIC CARS BY 2030 "A Labour government will aim to end the sale of cars with internal combustion engines by 2030, as part of its plans to tackle the climate emergency. The party is to begin talks with the car industry and trade unions to explore the policies needed to achieve the goal. It says it wants to help an “under siege” industry switch to electric car production." says The Guardian: "It comes as measures to phase out the internal combustion engine gathering pace across Europe. Earlier this month, Denmark called for a plan to phase out diesel and petrol cars and allow a ban on their sale by 2030. It was backed by 10 other EU countries." https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/13/labour-pledges-to-ban-sale-of-petrol-diesel-cars WHAT IS MILES PER POUND? From Parkers website: "The Parkers miles per pound (mpp) figure is a new and simple way of comparing the cost to run all cars on sale in the UK today. And it's really simple - using official 'real-world' fuel consumption figures and constantly updated energy and fuel prices, we can show you how far all cars can go for the pound in your pocket. We devised the mpp figure as a way of demystifying the running costs of Electric Vehicles (EVs) because above and beyond their range, and how long they take to charge, there is little uniformity in how carmakers express just how much energy they use. In a nutshell, with this figure you'll be able to directly compare how much any car costs to take on a journey. For EVs that means how much the electricity costs, and for other cars, that'll be how much petrol or diesel you need to pump in at the filling station. This will help potential owners understand the overall running costs of a car in real-world terms that are simple to understand." TESLA IS THE MOST GOOGLED CAR BRAND IN THE USA Marketing Daily has reported that a new study shows that Tesla is the most Googled car brand by Americans, with more than 2,240,000 searches on a monthly basis. The model that is the most searched for is the Model 3, with around 673,000 searches per month" reports CleanTechnica: "UK. Tesla came in at #4 on the list, with 246,000 Google searches. The Model 3 is the most searched car at 74,000 searches. Italy. Tesla came in at #5 on the most searched car brand list at 246,000, with 40,500 of those searches being the Model 3 (#1 among all cars). Germany. In the first of our Premier League specials, Steve Crossman goes behind the scenes at Aston Villa ahead of the new season. Learn how Jack Grealish's Mum was more worried than he was when he was attacked by a Birmingham fan, why Tyrone Mings knew he'd 'made it' when he upgraded his Citroën Saxo to a Vauxhall Corsa, why manager Dean Smith 'had to' sign over 10 players this summer and how we've all been pronouncing Conor Hourihane's name incorrectly. If that isn't enough we also catch up with club captain James Chester and new signings Jota and Matt Targett. Joining Steve throughout the pod is Villa legend Dion Dublin.
The boys try some of their homebrew cider as well as discussing some new Japanese cars that are coming as well as the new all electric Vauxhall Corsa, yeah I know... gripping stuff!

[audio] LEAKED EMAIL REVEALS POSSIBLE RECORD TESLA DELIVERIES IN Q2 2019 "A recent email from Tesla CEO Elon Musk to all employees states that the automaker may be on track to have the best quarter of all time in terms of deliveries. If you thought that the Silicon Valley automaker couldn't easily top 2018 Q4 numbers, you may want to think again." reports InsideEVs: "Our good friends over at Teslarati first discovered the "alleged leaked" email via Chinese social media and stock trading website." "From: Elon Musk Date: Wed 5/22/2019 10:45 PM To: Everybody As of yesterday, we had over 50,000 net new orders for this quarter. Based on current trends, we have a good chance of exceeding the record 90,700 deliveries of Q4 last year and making this the highest deliveries/sales quarter in Tesla history! In order to achieve this, we need sustained output of 1,000 Model 3’s per day. Almost all parts of the Model 3 production system have exceeded 1000 units on multiple days (congratulations!!) and we’ve averaged about 900/day this week, so we’re only about 10% away from 7000/week. If we rally hard, we can do it! Thanks for your great work, Elon" https://insideevs.com/news/351085/tesla-model-3-q2-delivery-potential-leaked/ CONSUMER REPORTS: TESLA'S AUTOMATIC LANE CHANGES POSE SAFETY CONCERNS "Consumer Reports...has claimed that the latest version of the semi-autonomous driving feature poses "serious safety concerns," making automatic lane changes that are overly aggressive and don't properly anticipate human behavior. In tests, it would frequently cut off other drivers, pass on the right and have trouble anticipating fast-moving vehicles approaching from behind." says Engadget: "The outlet argued that companies should need to provide public evidence of a semi-autonomous system's safety before it's made available to buyers. It also contended that Navigate on Autopilot is more trouble than it's worth -- it's akin to "monitoring a kid behind the wheel for the very first time," CR's Jake Fisher said. While Tesla was still ahead of rivals on autonomy, CR thought that it was safer and more relaxing to perform lane changes yourself." https://www.engadget.com/2019/05/22/consumer-reports-tesla-navigate-on-autopilot-risk PURE-ELECTRIC VAUXHALL CORSA-E LEAKED AHEAD OF 2020 RELEASE "A pure-electric version of the next-generation Vauxhall Corsa is coming, as previewed by this leaked official image. When it goes on sale in the UK in early 2020, the Corsa-e will be the first new product produced by Vauxhall since it came under the ownership of Peugeot-Citroen (PSA). It will also launch the brand’s strategic push towards the electrified and all-electric market." according to AutoExpress: "The Vauxhall Corsa-e will sit on the same underpinnings as the recently-released Peugeot e-208. That means it should have a range of 211 miles, a 50kWh battery pack and a 134bhp electric motor driving the front wheels. Charge times should be identical, too, with an 80 per cent top-up taking 30 minutes using a 100kW fast charger." https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/vauxhall/corsa/102657/pure-electric-vauxhall-corsa-e-revealed-with-211-mile-range MERCEDES-BENZ EQB SEEN IN CAMOUFLAGE "Mercedes-Benz EQC, which recently entered production, is just the first of many new all-electric cars under the new EQ brand. The German manufacturer is busy at work, developing also the smaller Mercedes-Benz EQB, which was recently caught in camouflage by walkoARTvideos on streets." reports Motor1.com: "The EQB is related to the Mercedes-Benz GLB, which besides the all-electric cousin, will get a plug-in hybrid version too. Rumours say that EQB could be rated at 500 km (310 miles) of range under WLTP, while the GLB EQ Power will have up to 62 miles (100 km) of all-electric range." https://uk.motor1.com/news/350861/mercedes-benz-eqb-spy-video/ RENAULT TO PRODUCE CAR-SHARE READY ZOE EV FOR FLEETS "Vulog, the supplier of shared mobility technology, announced a partnership with Renault, which will result in production of car-sharing ready vehicles." pick up InsideEVs today: "Starting immediately, Renault will be able to produce ZOE equipped with Vulog’s car sharing hardware directly on its assembly line. In effect, fleets interested in car sharing are now able to order ZOE equipped for car sharing from the start, instead of retrofitting the car afterward and save some cost, we assume. The partnership between Renault and Vulog suggests that car sharing is now popular enough to incorporate it on a production line." "By the end of 2019, over 2,500 Renault ZOEs equipped with Vulog’s car sharing technology will be in market, initially in northern Europe, South America and the United Arab Emirates." https://insideevs.com/news/350855/renault-produce-car-share-ready-zoe/ TEXAS LOOKS TO BOOST FEES ON EV’S TO FUND HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE "Texas is considering whether to impose additional registration fees on electric and hybrid vehicles, following nearly half the states that already impose higher fees on battery powered vehicles to compensate for lost gasoline taxes used to maintain roads and highways." says the Houston Chronicle: "The bills in Texas are unlikely to get through the legislative session, which ends Monday, but the issue is almost certain to resurface as Texas and other states wrestle with depleted highway funds as cars become more fuel efficient and federal gas taxes remain unchanged from their levels 26 years ago. With electric vehicles representing 2 percent of U.S. vehicle sales last year, lawmakers look to revamp the way the nation pays for its transportation network." A Green Car Reports Twitter poll last week timed well with this story as I've just seen the results: "The largest group of respondents agreed that per-mile fees seemed fairest, with 42 percent of our respondents choosing that option. Some commenters noted that many states already require safety inspections which record vehicle mileage, which could be used to track the mileage. The second-largest group, at 29 percent, favored the approach that most states seem to have taken (those states that try to raise highway funds from EVs at all, anyway), registration fees." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/energy/article/Texas-other-states-look-to-boost-fees-on-EV-s-13877118.php https://www2.greencarreports.com/news/1123208_how-should-ev-owners-pay-for-road-maintenance-twitter-poll-results HE BUILT AN EV IN HIS GARAGE. 10 YEARS LATER, HYUNDAI IS GIVING HIM $90 MILLION "The story of Croatia-based Rimac Automobili, which just might be the most unlikely of success stories. That’s because the company was established in 2009 by then-21-year-old Mate Rimac, who built an electric car in his garage." reports ThomasNet: "Ten years later, Rimac is all grown up and employs 500 workers. The automakers will dump about $90 million into the electric vehicle maker and also plan to establish a strategic partnership where they’ll collaborate on high-performance EVs" https://news.thomasnet.com/featured/at-21-he-built-an-ev-in-his-garage-10-years-later-hyundai-is-giving-him-90-million/ HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC INDIA LAUNCH ON JULY 9, 2019 "Hyundai will launch its first all-electric model in India, the Kona Electric, on July 9, 2019." The trial date has not been set, and experts say it could be months away." writes SFGate.com: "Ghosn insists he is innocent and says he was targeted in a "conspiracy" by others at Nissan Motor Co Nissan, which is allied with Renault SA of France, has seen profits nose-dive amid the fallout from Ghosn's arrest." https://www.sfgate.com/news/crime/article/Former-Nissan-chairman-Ghosn-appears-in-Tokyo-13878054.php MEANWHILE...NISSAN IS THINKING ABOUT BATTERIES "Data from Nissan shows the batteries used by its Leaf electric car will outlast the vehicle by 10-12 years, said Francisco Carranza, managing director of Renault-Nissan Energy Services. Nissan monitors everything from charging patterns to battery degradation on the more than 400,000 Leafs it has sold in Europe since launching the first generation in 2011." reports Autonews Europe: "Based on the average of life of a car at 10 years, Carranza put the battery life at 22 years. “We are going to have to recover those batteries,” Carranza told the Automotive News Europe Congress here on Wednesday. Nissan has been looking at ways to boost revenue from electric cars for itself and its customers as traditional revenue streams dry up in the switch from combustion cars to electric cars. “Aftersales revenue will massively suffer from electrification,” Carranza said. https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/nissan-looks-ways-use-long-lasting-ev-batteries COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
