Spoiler alert: If the basics of fueling, hydration, sleep, and recovery aren't dialed in yet, that's where you should start!Vic and I discuss:Why caffeine is the most effective supplement for endurance performanceHow sodium bicarbonate might help during hard efforts, but why it's riskyWhether ketones live up to the hype, and why they taste like battery acidOther supplements like dietary nitrates, polyphenols, creatine, and collagenHow to safely and strategically approach supplements in trainingWhy the basics, including nutrition and hydration, matter mostKey Takeaways:Caffeine has the most consistent benefits, but dose and timing matterSodium bicarb and ketone esters may help some athletes, but come with GI concerns and a steep price tag Supplements are the cherry on top; focus on food, hydration, carb intake, recovery, and sleep firstAlways test out supplements in training and adjust based on tolerance

Send us a textTrail running defies easy categorization, and Jane Maus embodies this truth perfectly. From soccer fields to technical mountain ridges, Jane's athletic journey has been anything but conventional. In this revealing conversation, she takes us behind the scenes of her recent Black Canyon 100K experience, where stomach issues forced her to drop at mile 46 despite running alongside the elite women. Jane doesn't just race trails—she lives them. After relocating to Boulder from Salt Lake City, she now shares a house at 8,500 feet with professional runners Johnny Luna-Lima, Bailey Kowalczyk, and Chris Myers. This immersive environment has transformed her training, though she admits the intensity can be overwhelming. "Everything is running-focused," she explains, which proves beneficial when healthy but challenging during injuries or downtime. What sets Jane apart is her identity as a mountain athlete first and runner second. Her climbing background and comfort on technical terrain have shaped her racing success, most notably at last year's A-Basin Cirque Series where she took the overall women's win against a stacked field. That performance caught industry attention and ultimately led to her partnership with La Sportiva—a connection she initiated herself by reaching out directly. As a registered dietitian now working alongside renowned mountain sports nutritionist Vic Johnson, Jane brings professional insight to her fueling strategy, making her candid discussion of her Black Canyon nutrition failures particularly valuable. The conversation weaves through her mixed feelings about the sport's commercialization, her dream FKT attempts like the Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup, and how she maintains authenticity in an increasingly media-driven environment.Whether you're navigating your own relationship with running, curious about high-altitude training, or figuring out how to fuel your ultramarathons, Jane's thoughtful perspective offers both practical wisdom and inspiration. Follow her journey as she continues blending competitive racing with the pure joy of moving through mountains.Follow Jane on IG - @_janemaus_Follow James on IG - @jameslaurielloUltimate Direction just launched their new Race 6L & Ultra 12L vests! Yes, we are going to get this show on the road. Absolutely. No two ways about it. Welcome back, Mr. Fantastik. Right by your side. And this is going to be the first in a series of 30 podcasts from the book day by day with James Allen written by Vic Johnson. James Allen wrote the book as a man thinketh. If you have not put that into your reading library highly, highly suggest that you do that as quickly as you possibly can. A very short book that has mountains, a wonderful one. Great meat that will feed your mind fantastically. So we're going to rock and roll here with the first of the 30, and this is called accept. No limits. A person is limited only by the thoughts that he chooses as a man. Think of. Mr. Johnson's rights, are not limited to the life you now live. It has been accepted by you as the best you can do at this moment. Anytime you're ready to go beyond the limitations currently in your life. You're capable of doing that by choosing. Different thoughts or, you know, here@jamesfantastic.com. We don't believe in obstacles. We believe in opportunities to grow. And that's one of the aspects of choosing different thoughts. The other aspect that you know, we address all the time is worry, doubt, and fear. And@jamesfantastic.com. We have a saying worry, doubt, and fear. You are not welcome here. So our perspective on how we view everything in life is a determining factor in how quickly we grow and how much better enabled we are to serve. All of mankind. Johnson goes on to say, we each earned the income we do today because that is the amount we have limited ourselves to earn. We could easily earn 5, 10, 15, 20 times more. If we did not limit ourselves to the thoughts that we currently maintain, I give that a little bit of thought. We limit ourselves in so many areas of life, by the thoughts we choose the thoughts we entertain, the thoughts we continue to repeat hour after hour, day after day, you don't believe that this is true. Surely, you know, people who earn much more than you, who don't have your education skills, your intelligence, your capabilities. So why do they earn more than you? It's a matter of choice of thoughts. I like to share this story from several decades ago. There was this CEO of, I guess, about a $300 million company at the time. And he couldn't get out of his way. And sometimes even though he had problems tying his shoes. I just couldn't figure it out. I'm sure you have had many instances along with that same category. It doesn't matter. It's, you know, it's, for me, it's, it's not a jealousy or envy factor. It, I guess is amazing and amusing at times. So let us take the next step. Let us say, Hey, I can do a lot better than this in all of my services. And I am worth far more than I'm currently being incompetent. So here's a great story. This is the story of George Dan Zik. And Cynthia Kurzy wrote about this in her book on stoppable as a college student, George studied, very hard and always late into the night. So late that he overslept one morning arriving 20 minutes late for class. He quickly copied the two maths problems on the board, assuming they were the homework. It took him several days to work through the two problems, but finally, he had a breakthrough and drop the homework off on the professor's desk. The next day later on a Sunday morning, George was awakened at 6:00 AM by his excited professor since George wasn't late for the class. He hadn't heard that the professor announced that these two unsolvable equations on the board were mathematical minds, teasers that even Einstein hadn't been able to answer, but George Dansik working without any kind of thoughts of limitations had solved. Not. But two problems had stumped mathematicians for thousands of years. How about that folks? How about that? Okay. There was no doubt, no worry, no fear. George jumped in with both feet and said, Hey, well, let's see what's going on here. You see, he didn't look at it as an option. He looked at it as an opportunity to grow. So I hope that you will choose to change your perspectives when the speed bumps and the potholes of life come along. We'll just say, Hey, it's another opportunity to grow. Bob Proctor tells us to keep reminding ourselves that you have tremendous reservoirs of the great potential within us, and therefore we are quite capable of doing anything we set your mind to. All you must do is figure out how you can do it. Not whether or not you can. And once you made up your mind to do it, it's amazing how your mind begins to figure out how to get it done. So what is the project that you're working on? What, how do you want to grow? Where do you want to go check us out at James? fantastic.com. We have some fantastic products, no pun intended. #056 Episode 56 brings you another personal development great- Bob Proctor. I was first introduced to Bob back in 2006. Vic Johnson from AsAManThinketh.net, another person in the personal development space released a program called Claim Your Power Now. It featured Jim Rohn, Bob Proctor and a few others. It was while listening to these CD's that I discovered the amazing teachings of Bob. Bob showed up in my life in 3 significant ways. One through the Claim Your Power Now program, then with his collaboration with Mary Morrisey on the Working With the Law program based off of Raymond Holliwell's book of the same name and then in the move The Secret. Even though Bob is going go to be 87 next week, he is still going strong. In fact I just participated in a weeklong online seminar with Bob a few weeks ago!So the goal of this episode is to share with you the magic of Bob Proctor and what he can do for you.We will learn - A little bit about Bob's background, his teachings and work, what he has studied intently for the last 50 years, some of the ways he has influenced my lifeBob is really a mindset coach if you will. He has spent the bulk of his career studying how the mind works and why people do what they do. Bob like me was greatly influenced by two books. Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich and Wallace Wattles book The Science of Getting Rich. It was Earl Nightingale who became his greatest mentor and really set him on the path of being a personal development great. Continue with me on this journey and subscribe! Also, invite your friends to join the conversation as well so they can be a part of the fun. Let's inspire and grow with each other. Sammy Hagar catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about his new album, Lockdown 2020. The album was recorded in quarantine with his bandmates in The Circle that includes Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham, and Vic Johnson as they run through covers of their heroes, peers, and his own Van Halen catalogue. The Red Rocker talks about tackling the scream on The Who’s "Won’t Get Fooled Again" and regretting writing such a high vocal part for Van Halen’s "Dreams". He also discusses the way Van Halen’s “Right Now” still speaks to today’s environment and tells us about sharing music with Eddie Van Halen during the guitarist’s final months, the talks they were having for a reunion, and his willingness to be part of a tribute show. This is a great way to kick off the new year! Michael Anthony is my first guest of 2021. The Circle with Sammy Hagar, Vic Johnson, Jason Bonham and Michael have a new album out called Lockdown 2020. We discuss the record.... -The cover songs they did -How Sammy approached the songs -What is relationship was like with Eddie Van Halen when he died -Joining V.H. in the 70's and more. As if Michael wasn't enough to kick off the new year, I brought in another heavyweight, Ozzy Osbourne. This is a classic interview I did with Ozzy around the release of the live Black Sabbath album, Reunion. It's fun to look back and listen to Ozzy talk about a number of topics, all before the MTV show "The Osbourne's". Today on the BOMB (Best of Morning Bull), we had flashbacks from the past 5 years of the show! Rob gave away free tanning after one night stands...believe it or not. This got us into questioning Rob on how and why he did that & how it worked out. Back in 2016 HBO acquired the show Sesame Street and this led to them letting go of 3 personalities. We discussed what impact this would have on us!! Sammy Hagar and guitarist Vic Johnson joined us a few years back to talk their show that took place at Art Park featuring the two of them and John Bonham's son Jason on drums! Early in March we found a crate of Russos LPs in our production studios and pulled out a few jams to play for you. Russo wasnt happy with us so we spoke with him on the phone to clear it up. Little did we know he would turn us on to some other GREAT records in 'Russo's Records'! NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell spoke with us in 2019 at Jim Kellys golf tournament and gave us some thoughts on the league, Jim and the Bills. In 2017 we brainstormed what we would do with million dollar lottery winnings and Rob & Bull had some really interesting ideas on what and WHO to spend it on. Everybody knows Rob has done and continues to do some 'odd' things so in fitting with tradition he told us a story in May of 2017 about how he got rejected after giving a woman a tennis ball in exchange for a date. A few years ago we played a game with contestants for 'Pretenders' tickets which included 3 lies and one true McCoy! Instruments are heard EVERYDAY, but we wanted to challenge ourselves by trying to guess classic rock songs with NON-traditional instruments...thinsg you'd never expect to be used. Jason Pominville was traded from the Sabres just about a decade ago. However, when he was traded back to Buffalo in 2017 we caught up with him and asked him his thoughts on the return, his passion for hockey and Buffalo & what he expected from the season. ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast!
We dive into the vegan diet and running with Arizona based nutrition coach, Vic Johnson. He shares his experience with athletes who live the plant-based lifestyle.
As COVID-19 sweeps its way across the planet, everything is changing in a way that is beyond anything we've ever experienced. Today I sit down with my good friend Vic Johnson to chat about how athletes can stay positive, proactive, and productive during a global pandemic. We talk training, creating your own "epic", pandemic shopping food choices, core routines, and more. Vic is a plant-based mountain ultra runner, future dietitian, and handsome, compassionate human. App State football legend and LT Vic Johnson joins us in the Lounge for his BGP debut! This episode is terrific. Vic is working hard training for Pro Day and he tells some awesome stories and shares his great outlook on his career and best memories.
Humans are highly adaptable beings with bodies that always organize towards health. When we are younger, we experience more resiliency and, frankly, can get away with more in terms of what we put into our bodies. Yet over time, they will ask more of us, and if we don't listen, they will break down to the point where we must look closer at our choices. For athletes, performance is one of the first areas we will see the reflection of a poor diet. Calorie deficits, combined with the physiological confusion created from consuming processed foods and an overabundance of nutrition information, leave many athletes lacking confidence in their nutrition choices. Many will throw their hands up and give up altogether. That's where our guest today comes in. Vic Johnson has been plant-based since his high school years on account of a challenge from his mom to try a vegan diet for one week. Vic was a cross-country and track athlete. When his coach caught wind of his nutrition changes, he expressed his concern for Vic's health, thinking that he would not be able to get the appropriate nutrients required for an athlete. Vic agreed that if his performance suffered, then he would consider changing his diet again. Almost two decades later, Vic has yet to change his diet. Very quickly, he felt the benefits of plants on performance and now dedicates his career to assisting athletes in finding the right foods for them. He relies heavily on science-based research and is on the cutting edge of information as he works in the Prandia Lab at Northern Arizona University studying the effects of nutrition on athletes. Vic is a wealth of information, and we are grateful that he is with us for this episode. Thank you so much for your support. Torg and Elliott had an interview with Sammy Hagar and Vic Johnson to talk about The Circle's new album Space Between.
My guests today are Sammy Hagar and his longtime guitarist Vic Johnson. What really needs to be said about Sammy Hagar, one of the all time greats of rock and roll vocalists- From Montrose, Van Halen and his own solo career to everything in between he is one of the most identifiable voices ever, and even now at at age 70 he's still kicking ass. As a huge Van Halen fan myself (Edward Van Halen is the reason I play guitar today, he was such a big influence on me) it was great to sit with Sammy and talk about guitarists, songs, his new concept record (Space Between) with The Circle (with Vic Johnson, Jason Bonham and Mike Anthony.) We also talk about a few Van Halen stories, Montrose, what Sammy looks for in a guitarist and how Vic Johnson got the gig. Vic, a great guitarist in his own right also was a member of the Busboys and shared a couple great stories as well. This interview took place at Sammy's studio in Northern California in Aug. 2018.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-riff-raff-with-shane-theriot/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
In this episode we talk about several concerts from the past couple weeks. We kick it off with talk about Sammy Hagar and the Circle in Tulsa. Sammy, Michael Anthony, Vic Johnson and Jason Bonham brought the rock of VH, Sammy, Zeppelin, Chickenfoot, and Montrose. We then get into a full report of our experience at ATT Stadium in Dallas seeing Metallica bring a massive show to the masses with great opening sets from Avenged Sevenfold, Local H, and Mixmaster Mike. After Dallas we traveled to Fort Smith for the Reliance Code CD release show at the Sound Room that also featured great sets from Screaming Red Mutiny, Vague Vendetta, and The Revolutioners. We also celebrate this release by playing one of RC's new songs. Next up we talk about the experience of seeing Iron Maiden up close and personal, and how Bruce, Steve Harris and the band are one of the best you will ever see. Ghost opened the show, and yes we loved it. Then we end it with talk about Collective Soul, Our Lady Peace (huge praise for Raine and the band), and Tonic playing the Zoo Amp in OKC. Thanks for listening, and please share!
Michelle Dyer wants everyone to think in multiple sources of income. Being a freelancer can be very hard. It’s not like a 9 – 5 where you can have a clear career path and most educational institutions don’t cover the “how to freelance” part of the art training. In a world where you bounce from job to job having multiple sources of income can make a huge difference in how you approach projects. When you’re not as worried about one gig paying all of your bills you have the freedom to take jobs that are more important to you and not just because you need the money. Michelle knows this first hand and from her own experience in the arts created a resource to help actors get side jobs that allow them to continue to act and work on their craft. MEET MICHELLE: (http://www.advanceyourart.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/MichelleDyer.png) In 2002 Michelle Dyer got on a plane to NYC with two suitcases and never looked back. Her eclectic background of performance, White House Intern, and now a full-time businesswoman has made her a natural candidate to inspire others to have a “side hustle” to be smart, pay the bills, and save money while going after their dreams. She created Survival Jobs for Actors when she had just arrived back into town after a gig, and didn’t want to go right back out on the road. After asking around for temp agency recommendations, she thought – there must be a better way [to find a survival job] – and thus Survival Jobs for Actors was born BOOKS: The Automatic Millionaire, Expanded and Updated: A Powerful One-Step Plan to Live and Finish Rich by David Bach (http://amzn.to/2jc4O6J) The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke Paperback by Suze Orman (http://amzn.to/2ip4z7H) The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom: Practical and Spiritual Steps So You Can Stop Worrying Paperback by Suze Orman (http://amzn.to/2ikWspi) RESOURCES: Bryan Tracy (http://www.briantracy.com/) Bob Proctor (http://www.proctorgallagherinstitute.com/) Jim Rohn (https://www.jimrohn.com/) Vic Johnson (http://www.vicjohnson.com/) http://www.actorsfund.org/ (http://www.actorsfund.org/) http://www.actorsfund.org/services-and-programs/al-hirschfeld-free-health-clinic (http://www.actorsfund.org/services-and-programs/al-hirschfeld-free-health-clinic) CONTACT: http://survivaljobsforactors.com/ (http://survivaljobsforactors.com/) BONUS: This podcast is brought to you by Audible.
