I was considering this difference between happiness, which is temporal, and joy, which is a state of mind that can be present even in dark times. How are they different? How would one be able to tell the difference? SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are taking a colorful look at joy as we explore its meaning and presence, contemplating the idea, if joy were a color…When pure joy overflows and becomes so tangible you can reach out and touch, what color do you see? Maybe you're still waiting for that type of joyful overabundance to show itself in your life and that's okay. Want some good news? Joy resides inside of you and once you remove the barriers and unlock the resistance, it has room to activate in your life. Joy is defined as a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. When did you feel a strong sense of pride, love, or gratitude? Were you beaming? Eyes sparkling? Body radiating positive energy? Don't overlook these joyful moments thinking joy has to be a steady state to be real. These moments, when recognized and celebrated, will be motivation for more! I had a friend use the term, “if joy were a color..” when describing a social encounter where a person was communicating a recent win. She overheard this conversation and witnessed the winner so full of joy that she radiated a tangible experience. What a beautiful thought. Days, weeks, months, or even years can get messy and distracting. Our focus can be easily be misdirected and we can feel like we're barely getting by. Who has time for joy? George Bernard Shaw said, “This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.” Let's look at this idea from a few different angles… Dr. Jamie D. Aten shares What Is Joy and What Does It Say About Us? An interview with Dr. Pamela King on the meaning and depth of joy. Found at psychologytoday.com Over at compassion.com I found some differences between joy and happiness. Kendra Cherry asks and answers What Is Happiness? Defining Happiness, and How to Become Happier. Found at verywellmind.com On the Yale Youth Ministry Institute's Youtube Channel, I found more from Dr. Pamela Ebstyne King: Purpose & Joy CHALLENGE: Embrace joyful moments and notice the colors and unique feelings that lift your spirit. Don't stop there. Remove any barriers and negative thoughts to release pure joy in your life. I Know YOU Can Do It!
You look for happiness on the outside because your inherent nature is happiness. Wait, does that make sense? Even though you are made of happiness, you're looking for it on the outside. I don't get it. Here's the situation. Yes, happiness, better yet bliss, is your nature — but you're not looking at your inherent nature, so you think you don't have it. Thus, you feel you are missing something essential to you — your bliss filled essence is missing. So, you go looking for it. Watch Gurudevi's full discourse "What Is Happiness" here.

Email me at hello@franexcell.com with any questions or take aways! For more, head over to: www.franexcell.com/ What Is Happiness? What is happiness? Oof, big question! What is this big thing that so many of us spend our lives trying to find? Do you actually know specifically? How will you know when you have it? What happiness looks and feels like will vary from one person to another, yet we all feel like we're chasing the same thing. It can feel pretty elusive and hard to nail down. I could ask 500 of you what happiness meant to you and end up with 500 different answers! It's another part of our collective human experience that we may have never even thought to question or dig into. Like so many things. We walk around on auto pilot making assumptions based on our own maps of the world and think that everyone else thinks the same as us, or should think the same as us. But sometimes even that part isn't clear. What do we REALLY think? This is why I love digging into our own psyches. It's SO fascinating when you really look into the things we believe, think and feel. It's so subjective and can often be changed simply by daring to look a little closer and pick apart our unconscious programming and natural learned protection mechanisms. It's also entirely likely that me asking you this question today, and in 10 years time, and 10 years ago, would have completely different answers. And yet we can feel like we're chasing this elusive happiness without realising we might already have it. It comes down to perspective again. You might have something big going on that isn't ideal, but could you still be happy underneath it all? Can you have that not ideal thing going on and not judge it or transpose it over to all other areas of your life and still be able to say you're happy? To some people happiness might be joy, elation, laughter. To some it might look and feel like peace and contentment. To some people it might be love and connection. To some people it might look like passion and purpose. To some it might be high levels of self esteem and pride. To some it might look and feel simply like acceptance. So what is it? Is happiness something that it's realistic to expect to feel all the time? Is happiness a fleeting feeling or a more general state? Is it a passive or active state? Meaning, do you have a responsibility in it or is it just something that happens to you? I often love doing a little deep dive into what certain emotions and feelings really look like for me. Without society's opinions and the opinions of other people. Really allowing myself to dig in and essentially create a map of that emotion according to me. I often find some surprises in there. What words do I associate with it? What feelings do I associate with it? Where do I feel it in my body and what does it specifically feel like? How much can I name about this emotion and its qualities? It creates some next level self awareness and real clarity over what you want and how you are going to achieve it. The kind of awareness that most people simply don't get to without the desire to what I call ‘seek to understand'. I mean that in the context of self, others, society and the world. The more you can question, be curious and understand yourself, other people, society and the world the more sense everything makes. I find mapping out an emotional state can also give me more of a map on how to reach it too. It takes away any judgement around perhaps not having it, or having it if it's something like anxiety for example, and replaces it with curiosity. When your filters are clouded by other people's and societies and cultural filters it's usually very difficult to really find what you're looking for. The waters are a little muddy. It can be clouded by what we think it ‘should' or is ‘supposed' to look like. There's so much nuance to the human condition, to our feelings, our thoughts, our behaviours and it's easy to assume we're all singing from the same hymn sheet but in reality we simply aren't. Our own experiences throughout our lives, particularly before we're 8 years old have shaped a lot of our expectations. I mean let's be honest, Disney and romcoms have a LOT to answer for here too! Do you know what makes you happy? Is that different to what brings you joy? Joy tends to be fleeting and happiness more long lasting. Let's look at this a different way. Do you know specifically what STOPS your happiness or interferes with it? Do you feel like other people or external things are required for you to be able to feel it? The reality is there is no one universally agreed upon definition of happiness. Different cultures have different words and expectations when it comes to happiness. If you compare America to Japan for example, happiness looks very very different. In America happiness is seen as more joyful, energetic and in Japan it's more calm and serene. So many people, when you ask what's important to them and what do they want for their lives, will say happiness or to be happy. So I believe it's really important to define what that is for ourselves. And to make sure we're super clear on the things that do make us happy so we can do more of that. Emotions are and will always be transient. They're moveable. You're not meant to feel just one thing all the time. The way I see happiness is that the underlying feeling of contentment and peace can still be there, even when things are a little more rocky. It's a sense of solidity. A sense of groundedness. A sense that everything is always going to turn out ok. A sense of calm and balance in my nervous system. That feeling of being able to do a big deep sigh and feel like all is well. Even if it's not 100% true at that moment. A sense of satisfaction and optimism. So you can see, I really don't think happiness is one thing. I think it's a combination of lots of things. So what is happiness? Happiness is entirely subjective and exactly what you decide it to be. And it might be closer than you have allowed yourself to realise. Fx

A video titled "What Is Happiness?" was released on ALLATRA TV in December 2019. In this short video, we will talk to the participants of that conversation about their understanding of what true happiness is. As Igor Mikhailovich Danilov said, "True happiness is Life eternal. True happiness cannot end. And since it cannot end, it means it can exist only when a person gains Life eternal. That's exactly what true happiness is. Thank you!" Do you have a hard time finding the mental and emotional space to just enjoy the pleasures of life and have fun? Do you mostly push through your endless daily tasks, trying to ignore stress, anxiety, maybe even anger? Many people feel that this is the most challenging period in their lifetime, which is why fun and pleasure are not at all on their radar. However, studies have shown that if we live this way long term, we are not only overall less productive, we are also shortening our life expectancy. There is a biological reason why we have countless neurons that are all designed for us to experience joy and pleasure. But how can we make use of them if we are always living in a state of struggle and never recharging our system with the things that make our minds and heart truly happy? Are we even allowed to have fun when the world seems to be falling apart? Well, this is what my next guest Dr. Michael Rucker has been writing about in his new book, “https://www.amazon.com/Fun-Habit-Disciplined-Pursuit-Wonder-ebook/dp/B09JPGPNQL (The Fun Habit: How the Pursuit of Joy and Wonder Can Change Your Life)”. Father. Husband. Organizational psychologist and behavioral scientist. Recovering entrepreneur. Fitness enthusiast with mechanical parts. VW Bus aficionado. Seeker. Traveler. Future astronaut. The story about myself that I tell in my book The Fun Habit starts in 2016, when the tools that I had built as a student of positive psychology suddenly failed me during one of my life's most difficult stretches. Finding myself unhappy, a bit lonely, and burnt out, I began to critically evaluate modern approaches to happiness. I quickly realized how much misinformation is out there. Years of research coalesced as The Fun Habit. The Fun Habit is an action-based approach that helps you critically examine your pursuit of happiness and make adjustments using evidence-based practices to invite more fun and joy in your life. I was asked to do this episode on happiness, and I thought this would be easy. I know a lot about that... what it is and how to have more! For sure! And, given the heaviness of my last episode… a welcomed relief. Well, my goodness was I incorrect in my perception. Not only is this one of my longest podcasts, but what I present here is not cookie-cutter nor like much of the superficial happiness "crap" you find out there. Laughing here yet good googly serious.Ok, so yes, it is work to be happy given current society and world circumstances where so much is stacked against you/us (literally intentionally working to bring our vibrations down, down, down). Everything is positioned to shrink you as well as not to feel good physically and emotionally. So, it is so important to be aware, to battle it with peace (interesting juxtaposition), and I offer how to be in it yet not of it. Literally, to be happy in the midst of it.I LOVE the Just Be Practice at the end. In yet another tour de force from third time guest, we talk about responsibility, who and why we are and self awareness. www.scruffymonkey.co.ukAlso, Paul and Jesse are on Twitch, so go and give them a follow: https://www.twitch.tv/bigjesse https://www.twitch.tv/paulnewtonmagic -------------------------------------------------------------------------- SponsorsThis isn't really a sponsor as they haven't paid for an advert, it is just a shout out to friends of the show Paul Spicer aka Middle Aged Gamer Guy and Brad Burton with their show Nerdcon! In this episode, we will talk about what happiness is, what it means to you, and how we experience happiness in our lives. We'll also get into how we are brought up to experience happiness and what happens when someone steals your happiness. So what is happiness? It means different things to different people. To one person, happiness might be a good job and a nice house. To another person, it might mean having a dog or cat. For some people, it's the feeling of being in love. And for others, it's the feeling of being in nature or traveling. It can mean a lot of different things! How do you experience happiness in your life? How are you brought up to experience happiness? What was your parents', siblings', or environment? How did your environment teach you happiness? One thing that's important to remember is that sometimes someone else can steal your happiness by making negative comments or getting upset with you while you're happy. This can put a damper on things—instead of focusing on the thing that made you happy, now you're focused on the other person's hurt feelings! This is called "hijacking"—when someone takes over your thoughts and feelings for their purposes. However, I do wanna let you know and I am excited to announce that I am presenting at the American Dowsers Society at Plymouth University in June. I am doing a live presentation and workshop :) Tickets are available. Message me if you are interested. First come first serve. Here is the information! Hope to see you there! https://dowsers.org/convention-and-conferences

The ladies discuss whether women are less happy than they used to be because of unrealistic expectations about life created by social media. Women already feel pressured to “have it all”, but does the content on social media make us feel like we're not doing enough or falling behind those who appear to be living their best life? How do we define happiness and what do we really need to be happy? Is it possible to be happy all the time and would quitting or taking a break from social media help achieve this? Are the relationships we have on social media authentic or does liking, following, and comparing ourselves to the curated and filtered view of other people's lives fuel our own unhappiness? In this episode, Monah, Nushy Rose, and Sophie Hannah explore our complicated relationship with social media and look at how we can all take charge of our own future happiness.--------------------------------------- FOLLOW THE CONVERSATION #EthnicallySpeakingInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/unitedmelanincoYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/UnitedMelaninGroupTikTok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8H5Jx9b/Twitter: https://instagram.com/unitedmelanincoFacebook: https://facebook.com/unitedmelanincoLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/unitedmelaninco/Get in touch with us: ethnicallyspeaking@unitedmelaningroup.com---------------------------------------- LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE https://www.inquirer.com/philly/health/we-arent-as-happy-as-we-used-to-be-heres-what-could-help-20180122.html(Article – We aren't as happy as we used to be. [J] Hi everyone, I'm Jessie [A] And I'm Alayna.[J] And we're excited to introduce our new podcast Positively Happier![J] We'll be sitting down to explore the question - what exactly makes people happy? We will be inviting guests along the way to have honest conversations about their stories and insights, chatting about the path to leading a happier life.[A] In between those chats, we'll also post some short minisodes that look at simple habits we can adopt to help look at the glass as half full a little more often.[J] In our research, we've found happiness generally comes down to 4 main keys:Close RelationshipsJob Fulfillment/Passion for hobbyHelping OthersHealth[A] Throughout our episodes, we'll be taking a closer look at the elements that make up those 4 keys to happiness. We want to share tips and tricks that others have found, experiments to test out those theories in our own lives, and inspiring stories from others who are leading happier lives.[J] You may be wondering - why us? What inspired us to get together to talk about finding joy and happier lives?[J] The answer to that question is simple, BALANCE. Throughout my entire life I've felt as though I've had a ton of happy moments, and when you string them all together you can see that I've had a very positive and happy life overall. However, for as long as I can remember the ups and downs have been what weighs on me the most, and after having my daughter, the pursuit of finding a better balance and a happier daily existence with less stress was more important than ever. Guiding her through the ebb and flow in her own life through leading by example in ours is at the top of my priority list, and what better way to do that than by learning alongside all of you![A] And I decided to jump on board to join the fun!Jessie and I have known each other for almost 30 years. We met on the schoolyard in junior kindergarten and have been best friends ever since. We've been there for each other through all the ups and downs - elementary and then high school drama, first crushes, boyfriend breakups, marriages, first babies. Great and terrible jobs. A move to the other side of the country (and then back). Late nights and early mornings. Through. It. All. [J] I would say we are both generally pretty positive people - but with really busy lives, young kids, and the balancing act of working full time and maintaining relationships - it can sometimes get tough to see the bright side in every situation.[A] That's why we're excited to get together monthly, chat with some super interesting people, and put some of these happiness theories to the test. There's always room for more joy in our lives.[J] Sound good? Hit subscribe to get a dose of happiness in your Podcast player every month. [A] And follow along with our journey to happiness and updates on new episodes on Instagram at @PositivelyHappierPod. [J] We want to hear from you! Have an idea for a topic we should cover or your best tip for staying happy? Send it on over to positivelyhappierpod@gmail.com . We'll share our favs on upcoming episodes.Chat with you soon!
In the Season 1 finale of Millennial Mama, Sanchi talks to Katerina a Life Coach & Happiness trainer on what it means to find yourself and the importance of having a life's purpose.
HAPPINESS COMES FROM GOOD RELATIONSHIPS Harvard University has been conducting the Study on Adult Development for more than 80 years. It includes Harvard undergrads from the 1930’s and disadvantaged Boston youths from the early 1940’s—and their children. The purpose was to find out what makes happy and health lives. The ongoing study has tracked the lives of thousands of people in over a hundred dimensions including their lifestyle, health, careers, psychology, relationships, and financial success. The study confirms something you probably already know. Dr. George Vaillant, who directed the study for more than 30 years, said that “The warmth of relationships throughout life has the greatest positive impact on ‘life satisfaction.’” In short, Vaillant said, “Happiness is love. Full stop.” Happiness doesn’t come from money, your education level or your social status. Happiness comes from good, high-quality relationships. The Harvard study shows that good relationships don’t just bring happiness. With good relationships, you’ll be healthier, feel better and live years longer. It is simple. To achieve happiness in life, develop good, strong relationships. Everything else is a distraction. WHAT IS HAPPINESS? What is happiness? Happiness is a deep satisfaction with life. It is lasting, deep fulfillment. Happiness is the fulfillment of our human nature. Back in the late 1980’s, I was a young Marine officer learning how to fly jets in south Texas. A big part of our training was learning how to land on aircraft carriers. You have to fly a very precise, three-dimensional path at exactly the right angle to a small spot on the carrier deck. If you do it right, the tailhook on your airplane grabs a cable on the deck and you go from 140mph to a full stop in about 2 seconds. For a year, we practiced carrier landings on runways as part of every flight. Some flights were nothing but practice carrier landings. Every single landing was graded in detail. It was a grueling and often humbling process. Finally, the day came to fly out to the aircraft carrier to get our carrier landing qualification. You are alone in your airplane. From 20,000 feet, the aircraft carrier looks like a grain of rice on your kitchen floor. The pressure is enormous. Your career depends on making the landings. That’s assuming you don’t make a mistake that gets you killed. The first landing was a blur. You get through the pressure and land on the carrier deck because you’ve practiced it so many times. When you’re under pressure, you fall back on your training, on your habit patterns—an important lesson to remember. After that first landing, there was an overwhelming feeling of fulfillment. After six landings, there was another overwhelming sense of fulfillment when they told me, over the radio, that I was carrier qualified. Fulfilled because I fought through fear, stress and uncertainty to pass the test. All that practice and hard work changed me. It changed my relationship with myself. Fulfilled because we—the students who qualified and the instructors who taught us—accomplished something difficult together. We bonded through that process. You’ve probably had these moments in life in which we worked really hard for something, accomplished it, and felt fulfilled. It could be a lot of things like: Getting a well-deserved promotion or professional certification Climbing a mountain Running a long-distance goal race Having kids that grow into good people. Achieving a goal weight Ending substance abuse Completing a big hobby or household project The more difficult the challenge, the more you suffer to achieve it, the more fulfilling it is. Easy wins aren’t as meaningful or fulfilling. Tough wins are. Often, fulfillment comes from just spending time with people that you love. Late night college discussions. Walks on the beach. Having a meal together.
How to find inner #happiness? How to #enjoylife? How to overcome drug addiction? Which steps stages should be implemented at the governmental level in order to build spiritual and mental well-being? Answer to these and other questions you will find in the interview for #allatratv with the participants of the 63rd Session of Commission on drugs which was held in Vienna. Everyone feels that they were born to be happy. Sometimes people get confused and making the wrong choice, a person can use drugs. An important task is to provide high-quality psychological support to drug addicts, assistance in socialization. The microclimate of the family plays an important role in solving this problem because it is the platform on which a person relies at the beginning of life. We must create conditions for the formation of happy families and creative society. It is very important that everyone knows the meaning of his life and understands the importance of investing attention in useful things, helping people, developing talents and abilities. This makes life more diverse and interesting. It is very important to restore spiritual and moral values in the world society so that the problem of drug addiction disappears. The last time a random question popped into your mind, what did you do about it? Why not just curiosity, but following that thought can make you smarter. How do you feel when you learn or create something in the 'real world' through touch or contact, vs learning or creating something on a computer screen? Does modern sensory meditation give us some insights into why one may feel more 'calming' or satisfying than another? And why creating in the 'real world' may fulfill you more than online. What is happiness? Some people think there are many forms. Not just the smiling, laughing kind. How focusing on a task, following ones heart, and expressing your deepest self in any way that makes sense, can make you just as 'happy' as laughing with a friend. Hate being wrong? Most people do. But we learn through being wrong, there may be opportunity to show your inner strength to others... making them think highly of you even because of your mistake.Support the show (https://www.doingmisterrogers.com/)
