Let's explore some of the main emotions that keep you from actually doing what you want to do.   What's Holding You Back from Getting What You Want? Fear Joy (Fear of Losing that Joy) Worry of Regret   Why Do We Avoid Doing What We Want to Do So often, we put off doing what we actually want to do. Whether that's going on holiday, changing career, or something else. Why do we do this? Often, we think we have all the time in the world to accomplish what we want to do, but I want to ask you: why are you putting it off? Time is scarce, my friends, and it's fleeting. So I ask you again, why are you putting off what you really want to do? Most often, we don't do what we want to do because of some pretty big emotions. Fear is one of the biggest reasons we don't do what we want to do. But did you know that joy can also hold you back?   What Would Happen if You Allowed Your Curiosity to Take Control? When you're happy with your lot in life, it can be difficult to move out of that comfort zone to try something else. I challenge this fear of losing joy with curiosity. What if what you want is truly amazing? Some of the other reasons you might not do what you want is because you're comparing yourself to other people doing the same thing. What would you tell your best friend in these circumstances?  Finally, I want you to think about whether the worry of disappointing others is part of why you're putting off doing what you want to do. And I want you to ask yourself whether you'll regret not doing what you want to do. It's time to get introspective. Do any of these feelings resonate with you? I want you to decide what you want right now. In a recent article, Barry Posen from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology concludes that Europe is capable of conducting major military operations against a potential Russian attack, and that these capabilities serve as an important deterrent. But others doubt that Europe will ever be able to stand on its own without substantial support from the United States. The ultimate unknown, however, might revolve around how much autonomy the United States is willing to grant to key NATO allies — and how much autonomy they will demand in exchange for greater burden sharing. On this edition of Sasquatch Tracks, Smoky and Jeff lead up by bringing Micah up to date on a recent field excursion of theirs, and Micah revisits a discussion with folklorist Thomas E. Bullard where they discussed the American tradition involving hairy bipeds. Then getting to the heart of the main topic at hand, we examine why an Oklahoma lawmaker has recently proposed legislation that seeks to establish laws related to hunting Sasquatch. In fact, it isn't the first time ordinances have been passed related to hunting, and potentially shooting Sasquatch (as well as some of their more mythical animal kindred).  While the idea of hunting what many already only take to be a mythical animal may seem nonsensical, we look at how the serious research community might be potentially affected by such legislation, as well as the creatures themselves. More fundamentally, we look at what other laws already in existence indicate about what would happen if one of the creatures were ever killed; what authorities would become involved, and where would the body likely be taken thereafter? Tis the season to have to respond to another low in internet -polemics,- and so we did, responding to JD Hall's show, which featured a picture he trolled from my social media feed, -James White is What Would Happen if Ignorance and Arrogance Had a Love Child.- Yep, that's the title, and the substance matched the same level of childishness. It is particularly worrisome that JD's memory is becoming twisted by his insistence upon being RIGHT about everything. He is now making things up as he goes along. In any case, we demonstrate the massive holes in his diatribe and continue to stand against his efforts to bully and slander others with impugnity.

Episode 226: “Nuke You Like A Hurricane” This week Host Dave Bledsoe has some ideas to avert the apocalypse of paying his bar tabs, mostly involving wearing a hat and hoping the bartender doesn't recognize him. (He's tried it before, didn't work) On the show this week, we look at some of the ideas for saving the planet from Climate Change, ironically enough, involving giant space hats. (Think. Huge. Hats.) Along the way we take the obligatory excursion to explain for the slow and dimwitted folk who don't understand science or indeed much of anything why you cannot nuke a hurricane. We also posit that the Jetsons ruined an entire generation, but this is hardly surprising to anyone who's ever watched the Jetsons. Once we get to the point, we look at all the various ideas to save humanity from its own stupidity when the global thermostat breaks. (Except for, you know, the ideas that would WORK but people find inconvenient.) Every single suggestion detailed in this show is one actual scientists have suggested using to solve the problem. (We cannot attest they were not drunk when they thought of them.) Finally, we wrap up with our highly scientific theory for what will actually be done by humanity to save themselves. We call it the Amity Effect. (Hint: We should have closed the beaches thirty years ago.)
