Beloved Vancouver actor Alex Zahara swings by the YVR Screen Scene Podcast studio to discuss his wildly entertaining turn as Uncle Howard (RIP) in Final Destination: Bloodlines and his own remarkable career on stage and screen. The funny and fascinating conversation covers a lot of territory: how Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein's critically acclaimed, blockbuster contribution to the Final Destination universe is a love letter to Vancouver; how he gets into character (a process that somehow involves primordial ooze); memorable roles from his career, including his 40 on-screen deaths; how he navigates the quiet times; and what it is about this topsy-turvy biz that keeps him coming back for more. MOVIE MIKE'S MOVIE PODCAST: Mike talks to Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky who directed Final Destination Bloodlines. They share stories behind the coolest deaths, how veteran stuntwoman Yvette Ferguson came out of retirement to become the oldest person ever set on fire on camera, the films that inspired them to become directors, and the episode of Goosebumps that Zach starred in as a kid! Final Destination Bloodlines is now available on digital and on 4K UHD on July 22! In the Movie Review, Mike talks about 28 Years Later starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland reunite. It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. Mike talks about what sets it apart in the franchise, why it’s one of the most beautiful horror films he’s watched and why it is what he describes to be as ‘butt drenching’. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me from Nowhere which is an upcoming biographical musical drama film about the iconic singer. This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we're bringing our epic Final Destination marathon to an end! After dissecting the first four films, we're now tackling what was thought to be the franchise's conclusive chapter, Final Destination 5 (2011), and the highly anticipated return, Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025). Get ready for more death-defying escapes and incredibly intricate demises! Final Destination 5 (2011) Directed by Steven Quale, Final Destination 5 revitalized the franchise with its ingenious premise and breathtaking opening sequence involving a collapsing suspension bridge. This installment cleverly plays with the established lore by introducing a grim new twist: if a survivor takes the life of someone who was not meant to die in Death's design, they can claim that person's remaining lifespan. This added a desperate, moral dilemma to the usual frantic escapes, culminating in a shocking reveal that ties directly back to the original film. Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025) Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, Final Destination: Bloodlines marks the long-awaited return of the franchise. This film takes a fresh approach by focusing on a new family, whose matriarch had a premonition in 1968 that averted a deadly structural collapse, saving many lives. Now, decades later, Death is coming for her descendants, and they must figure out how to break a bloodline curse that has been passed down through generations. This entry promises to shake up the established formula with a multi-generational storyline and delve deeper into the lore of Death's intricate plan. Join us as we discuss how Final Destination 5 brought a renewed sense of terror and cleverness to the series, and then dive into all the exciting details and potential new directions offered by Final Destination: Bloodlines. Spoilers start around 3:00.

The film introduces a gripping ensemble: Charlie Reyes (Teo Briones, Chucky) and Erik Campbell (Richard Harmon, The 100)—the tattoo-artist cousin whose gruesome MRI death ranks among the franchise's most talked-about kills. Bobby Campbell (Owen Patrick Joyner, Julie and the Phantoms) meets his end via a spring-launched vending machine, while Darlene (Rya Kihlstedt, Obi‑Wan Kenobi) is bisected in a lamp-post trap. The late Tony Todd returns as the enigmatic William Bludworth, delivering a final, haunting chapter to his character—one of his last performances before his passing. The Final Destination saga. Sarah Watt, Jeremy Downing and William Chen discuss Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025) and the original Final Destination (2000), as well as the sequels in between: Final Destination 2 (2003), Final Destination 3 (2006), The Final Destination (2009) and Final Destination 5 (2011). We begin by discussing the Health and Safety elements of the films, especially the 'Public Service Announcement' lurking under the surface of the majority of the grisly deaths in the series. Jeremy, Sarah, and William each reminisce about their experiences watching the films. We talk about the process that recent series directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein went through to land the job of the latest film. We celebrate our positive reactions to various moments from across the series, especially the fifth film. We honour the work of Tony Todd and the connections to Candyman (1992) in the series. We talk about the nebulous role of Death as a villain and the logic of the premonitions in each film. Jeremy and William talk through their top kills from the series. We discuss Ali Larter's character, Clear Rivers, the genesis of the original film as a television episode, the range of quality in the acting and the development of the audience's expectations over time.

Adding a lighter touch to the impending doom, Intern Manager Amy debuts a fun new segment called "What's in a Name?". Amy will present a plot synopsis, and Spencer and Sarah will have to guess which common movie title, paired with a year, it belongs to. Expect some surprising guesses and cinematic head-scratchers!
