Fashion besties-it's Friyyaayy!  This week, Holly dives headfirst into the hottest Spring 2025 trends you need to know. Whether you're a trend enthusiast or just trying to stay relevant, this episode is packed with style tips, insider knowledge, and plenty of laughs.   It's your RIGHT to look fabulous for the upcoming season!   LISTEN NOW!  And follow along on this week's Pinterest Board!   What You'll Learn in This Episode:    1. Slim Sneakers & Sporty Chic: Sneakers continue their reign, but this year it's all about slim silhouettes. Think lightweight styles like Pumas, Adidas, and boxing-inspired high-tops. Pair them with flowy skirts or romantic dresses for a modern twist. Sporty chic also takes center stage with bold motorsport-inspired graphics, silk anoraks, and track jackets. Sporty Spics is BACK.   Don't forget to keep an eye on collections from LVMH brands influenced by the Paris Olympics for high-fashion takes on this trend. Professional athletes are also in the fashion hot seat as brands are turning to them for strong brand influence.   2. Animal Prints & Stripes: (never gets old) Animal prints, including zebra, tiger, and snake patterns, are timeless yet reinvigorated for Spring 2025. Any of these prints as an accessory, such as a leopard-print shoe or scarf can instantly elevate your outfit and take it to the next level. Stripes are equally versatile, with bold options layered in contrasting widths and colors. Days of the boring horizontal striped t-shirt have new life again with this trend. Try layering different types of stripes for an unexpected play-on pattern. Designers like Proenza Schouler and Dior showcase this preppy-meets-edgy vibe beautifully.   3. Plaid and Preppy: Plaid remains a key player in the preppy fashion resurgence, but Holly's rule is clear: less is more. Opt for plaid as an accent rather than the focal point—think flowy skirts, tailored layers, or abstract plaid dresses as seen in Ralph Lauren's recent runway show.   Pair plaid with skirts, jackets, loafers, or oxford shoes to nail the preppy look. Men's neckties on women are making a huge comeback as well. When in doubt, try a plaid bag or scarf to add some color to your look. Think of it as a neutral that can go with anything.    4. Fringe & Ruffles: Fringe isn't just for country looks anymore. From leather jackets to car-wash-inspired fringe dresses (like Holly's burgundy stunner from Toccin), this trend adds drama to any outfit. Ruffles are another standout, seen in Zimmerman and Cynthia Rowley collections.   Be mindful of fit—ruffles can either highlight or overwhelm, depending on placement. For a twist, try an asymmetrical version- this usually compliments the body to draw your eye down to create a longer, leaner look.   5. The Jeans Conundrum: Baggy jeans, dad jeans, and slim-straight styles are all the rage, with brands like Proenza Schouler and Pistola Jeans leading the charge. Acid washes, barrel silhouettes, and wide-leg fits offer plenty of options for every aesthetic. Let us help you navigate the confusion and choose the perfect pair for your shape and style.   6. Bubble Silhouettes: This playful, voluminous shape makes a comeback in both sophisticated and casual designs. From Jonathan Simkhai's elegant bubble dresses to Reformation's more accessible bubble miniskirts, this trend is back from OVER 30 years ago and is super popular right now.   7. Accessories Galore: Welcome to the era of "excessive accessorization"! Glamour Magazine's term for this trend encapsulates stacked necklaces, statement earrings (check out brands like Lelet NY), and bold scarves. Bags also get a refresh—think oversized totes, sleek daytime bags, and timeless clutches.   Hot Tip: Remember, accessories are the key to taking your outfit to the next level.   Whether you're a minimalist looking for key pieces or a maximalist ready to go all out, Holly has all the styling tips and tricks to make these trends work for you.   Follow Holly on Social Media: • Instagram: @HollyKatzStyling • Podcast IG: @FashionCrimesPodcast • Pinterest: Holly Katz Styling • LinkedIn: Holly Katz Style • YouTube: Fashion Crimes Podcast   Your Spring Style Starts Here: We hope you are as inspired by these trends as we are.  Don't be afraid to mix and match pieces and take a risk with your personal style! Pierre Rougier, a distinguished fashion publicist and founder of PR Consulting, boasts a career spanning several decades. After studying political science in Bordeaux, Rougier honed his skills in Paris and London with Hermès, Yohji Yamamoto, and Maison Margiela before making his mark in New York in 1993. There, he directed communications while representing icons like Helmut Lang and Alexander McQueen. Establishing PR Consulting in1997, he catapulted emerging talents like Narciso Rodriguez and Nicolas Ghesquiere, then at Balenciaga, to prominence, also fostering brands like Proenza Schouler and Hood By Air. Renowned for discovering and championing young designers, Rougier continues to hold the opinion that a strong vision and sometimes counter-trending codes are often the precursors to a designer's success. Episode Highlights: Rougier grew up far from the front of culture, and though his interests in fashion were indirect at first until he moved to Bordeaux—a larger city—to study.  He started his work in fashion boxing Hermes products before moving to London, still employed at Hermes, learning English and partaking in '80s gay club culture there. Yohji Yamamoto employed Rougier to work a PR position, giving him his first taste of serious work and long hours associated with the industry. Using his London connections, he opened his own PR firm as the Antwerp Six were coming into the spotlight, and worked under Martin Margiela for four years, until he felt that his aesthetic and vision were too overwhelmingly connected to that one house. Moving to New York, Rougier worked as communications director for a company that held brands like Vivienne Westwood, Helmut Lang, and Michael Kors. Rougier speaks on learning that the antithesis of what's trending is always on the precipice of an arrival. He says the conversations in fashion are less now about what designers like and more about what designers find that works, and is successful.  Before the internet, there were few photos of shows and most people waited to see items in stores to determine the zeitgeist; now, Rougier says, the urgency of marketing makes everything “extremely transactional.”  He says it's fair to say that in fashion, elitism has trended out with a shift to exclusive community identities. Holly is hot off the runway at New York Fashion Week's Fall 2023 shows and filled to the brim with fresh fashion knowledge just for you! Your Favorite Personal Stylist attended several fashion shows to get the scoop on what designers are showing so you can get the very first, exclusive info straight from the runways!    Holly's NYFW adventures were something ‘extra' this year, thanks to the kindness of Fern Mallis, who is the queen of Fashion Week (she's the one who actually started it back in the 1980s.) This is her 30th anniversary of going to the shows and she was kind enough to let Holly pal around with her for one of the days!  #winning!!    FIRST STOP:  The Supima Cotton Design Competition. Globally recognized and acclaimed American fashion designer, Jeremy Scott, hosted the 16th annual Supima Design Competition, where eight finalists from the nation's leading design schools showcased exceptional individual creativity and design talent with eveningwear capsule collections created entirely with SUPIMA cotton fabrics and competed for a $10,000 prize.      SUPIMA, the non-profit luxury brand that promotes the use of American grown Pima cotton around the world, named Carla Pierini of Drexel University as the winner of the 2023 SUPIMA Design Competition.    HOT TIP:   Please be sure to check out Holly's Pinterest Board for this episode!    NEXT:  Thursday night, Holly went to the “Fashion Icons” series at the 92nd Street Y where Fern Mallis conducts her annual interviews with influential designers, models and people in the fashion industry. She was in a conversation with the imaginative Gabriela Hearst, where she detailed her route to a career in fashion and how sustainability practices are a way of life for her.    FUN FACT:   For those of you who watched the inauguration of President Biden, she designed the look for Dr. Jill Biden, that was made from all deadstock fabric (materials existing from available fabrics to minimize the impact on the environment) and was embroidered with all the flowers from all 50 states.    STOP NUMBER 3:  Designer Jonathan Cohen's Fashion Presentation: A presentation is a more intimate version of a fashion show. It's like a small party. You can meet the designer, touch the fabrics, talk to the design team and more. Born of parents from Mexico and San Diego, Jonathan is known for his artistic Mexican prints, patterns and colors. The laid-back ease of the San Diego surf culture and the modern city approach have manifested into what the brand has become. #GORGEOUS!    Also, Holly MAY OR MAY NOT have new boots arriving soon from his new shoe collection.    (have you looked at the pinterest board yet? now would be the time!)    HOLLY HITCHES A RIDE TO PROENZA SCHOULER! #winnniinnnggg As you should know, Proenza Schouler is one of Holly's go-to and favorite brands. The lines are sleek and modern, and very unique. The clothes are very simple this season with lots of flowy fabrics and neutral colors. You don't see anything else like it. And it's absolutely wearable.     They also have a slightly lower price line called Proenza White Label. If you're interested in trying it, this is a great option to see if you like the fit and the aesthetic of the brand without spending a ton.    THE SALLY LAPOINTE SHOW:  Holly has mentioned this brand before, but she has not seen Sally LaPointe show since she first started going to fashion week, about six years ago.    HOWEVER! This show, according to Your Favorite Personal Stylist, was the best one of the week. It literally took place on a sidewalk, taking over Crosby Street in NYC. This season's line has notes of streetwear, with lots of colored feathers, lime green, chain mail and metallics. The feather-lined and sequined ensembles are a staple in many party-loving downtown New Yorkers' closets.    And then there were the thigh-high silver boots, and that was THE END for Holly. #TrueLove    (Sally doesn't know it yet, but the Holly Train is about to roll up in there to start her Sally LaPointe journey. JUSSAYIN')    LaPointe's clothing might appear slightly eccentric to the average person—she had crowds of pedestrians gathered around the outdoor show, causing a traffic jam.     THEN, THE PatBO SHOW:  The PatBO brand is another NYFW favorite. The designer, Patricia, is Brazilian. Her clothes are crocheted and beaded and very tropical. She makes beaded pants and flowy evening gowns that are like cruise and resort worthy. She also creates gorgeous swimsuit cover ups with unbelievable cuts, and the richest colors.    DELL SCOTT COLLECTION  Dell Scott is a magnificent designer from Philadelphia. This was a first-time show for Holly, and it was worth it. This designer has beautiful evening wear collection of dresses, both short and long, with beading and ruffles. She had few dresses that Holly absolutely loved.     One was a hot pink, very low cut with a vertical dress, with up and down ruffles. She styled it with a really wide black belt because the ruffles were vertical. It literally looked like a hot pink cotton ball.  The other was a very, very bold purple bright purple two piece top and skirt with a banded waist and the top was one shoulder crop top with a flower on the shoulder. #TODIEFOR    There was more, but you need to listen the full episode to get the true flavor of the week – as ONLY Holly can give. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the dynamic design duo behind New York–based womenswear brand Proenza Schouler, share their thoughts on the evolving fashion marketplace with Christopher Michael and how they've seen their work mature and scale with it. Their illustrious journey started 20 years ago at Parsons School of Design when they completed a joint senior thesis collection, which grabbed the attention of retail heavyweight Barneys New York. In their triumphant rise to a successful, prominent luxury label, they navigated social media noise and kept up with the breakneck pace of a never-ending, fast-paced global production cycle. Working in tandem has been vital to them, extending the emotional, creative, and practical support that buttressed Proenza Schouler's growth and longevity.  What's Contemporary Now? A celebration of individuality, keeping the work authentic to the brand's core values, and a broad embrace of all kinds of perspectives while also sticking to your vision and not just being a follower. Episode Highlights: Getting the name right: Pronounced Pro'ensa Skool'er, the name represents the combination of the designers' mothers' maiden names.  Origin stories: Born and raised in Miami, Lazaro fell in love with magazines and design early, ultimately abandoning pre-med to attend Parsons School of Design. Jack spent his early childhood in Japan before relocating to New Jersey as a teen, a "culture shock" that preceded his move to Parsons School of Design. Aha moments: The early influences that shaped Lazaro's interest in the fashion industry and Jack's focus shifting away from the visual arts in college. Becoming a brand: Pulling all-night design sessions as college students cemented the bond between Jack and Lazaro, in terms of style and approach to work.  Turning point: What ensued after the fashion duo was introduced to Julie Gilhart, who was running Barneys New York and became a champion of their first collection—conceived and designed as an award-winning joint thesis project. Early days bootstrapping: The team figured out all the design, manufacturing, pricing, marketing, and other functions that came to be known as Proenza Schouler. (A name they came up with within two days.) What has changed: Jack reflects on today's increased "noise" level in the fashion marketplace, the "endless list" of would-be designers online, and the need to differentiate. Lazaro contrasts today's hardcore business and branding orientation to the more artistic, playful environment that prevailed when they started. Big money, fast timelines: The accelerating breakneck pace of marketing, pre-collections, social media management, and merchandising strategy. Staying creative: Jack and Lazaro evolved a balance between their business and design functions, merging them without letting one take over the other. Then and now: The evolution of Proenza Schouler's editorial/design focus on surprise and innovation toward a sense of continuity and investment in telling the same story but in fresh, new ways. The sweet spot: Curiosity and clear-eyed self-criticism have driven Jack and Lazaro past stumbles from better to best, season to season.  Love-hate: The beautiful opportunity fashion offers to reinvent and extend constantly versus the stress of that never-ending grind of performing. Duo dynamics: Working as a pair has conferred emotional support, creative challenge, and the ability to scale, multitask, and adapt to today's fashion industry. Identity shift: A look at how Proenza Schouler has continued providing "urban clothes for intelligent women" as their customers' lives have morphed and matured.  Celebrating practicality, individuality, and diversity: New York's fast pace and changeability are woven into the Proenza Schouler brand's voice and identity.

Last week, your favorite personal stylist and our podcast hostess with the mostest, Holly Katz, shared EXCLUSIVE fashion news straight from New York Fashion Week 2023 in Episode 132. This week in Episode 133, she's back with an in-depth discussion on the NEW TRENDS you will be seeing in stores and online soon, and how to incorporate them into your own wardrobe.  Note to some of us of a certain age, these “trends” may not necessarily be “new” to you:  Moto jackets Cargo pockets Leather pants, shirts, shorts, tops, dresses, and blazers Viva Magenta dressing – Pantone's Color of the Year Tie Dye  Minimalist neutral  Deconstruction dressing Storybook dressing Pop Art on clothing MOTO JACKETS: If you have been a fan of the podcast, or a client of Holly's, you will know that the classic Moto jacket is considered a staple for anyone looking to zhoosh up their style. Wear casual with jeans, dress one up with a maxi dress, or even wear it over your shoulders with a more formal dress. Loving this! These jackets come in a variety of colors and embellishments, and never really go out of style. A moto jacket (or motorcycle jacket) is the one with large lapels, zippers and hits shorter at the top of your waist. The moto jacket is evergreen. Other leathers like a bomber jacket or other styles of leathers aren't always in style, but the moto jacket is. You can wear it for any season, day or night. Try one in a fun color.  Brands to Shop:  Iro | www.iroparis.com All Saints | | www.allsaints.com Nour Hammour | www.nour-hammour.com CARGO POCKETS As much as it pains Holly to say it: cargo pockets are back. #NOTOKAY. She has never liked this trend. Ever, Never. Ever. However, anything high-end designer with a cargo pocket is obvi an exception to Holly's "DO NOT WEAR" rule. Keep in mind that it is still a Fashion Crime to wear cargo shorts, or ugly camo cargo pants. #GIRLNO Of Note: Cargo pants add volume to your thigh area, so be aware that this style is not for all body types! If you are ready to try this trend, dress it up. Get some designer slacks and pair them with a blazer.  Or maybe silk cargos or faux silk joggers and dress it up with a heel. An oversized jacket with cargo pockets is also a great way to try this trend. Brands to Shop:  Marc Jacobs | www.marcjacobs.com Proenza Schouler | www.proenzaschouler.com Rag and Bone | www.rag-bone.com Heron Preston | www.heronpreston.com   EVERYTHING LEATHER: Leather is not just for jackets anymore. Every designer at NYFW had some version of leather (or faux leather) in their shows. Holly saw everything from soft draping leather, to structured blazers and long, plain, A-line dresses. Look for leather pants, leather shirts and shorts, blazers, tops, dresses and skirts.    Brands to Shop: Proenza Schouler | www.proenzaschouler.com Bibhu Mohapatra | www.bibhu.com   VIVA MAGENTA – COLOR OF THE YEAR: If you missed our “Color of the Year” episode, please go back and listen to Episode 127 - Viva Magenta | Pantone's Color of the Year. Literally, everything from the pink family was featured in all the shows that Holly attended. This pink trend, in various shades from the Color of the Year to bright neon, will be everywhere and isn't going away any time soon.   TYE-DYE: This is not your Grateful Dead T-shirt tie-die, people. The newer version is a lot more sophisticated. Designers at Zara and Proenza use ice dyeing on velvet maxi dresses and it. was. stunning. Ulla Johnson's Serafina Gown is made from prismatic silk twill, with a lightweight purple fabrication printed with shibori motifs.  There's also botanical dyeing, which Holly has seen quite a bit of lately, using real flowers and plants to create designs on clothes. What she loves about dyeing is the originality of wearing something that's very unique and unlike anything else. It's really an art form. Look into the tie-dye trend and see if there's something that you would be interested in. We also have a FABULOUS episode dedicated to the art of tie-die, featuring our Bestie Lindsay of Made by Keeper. Listen to Episode 76 here.   Brands to Shop:  Zara | www.zara.com Proenza Schouler | www.proenzaschouler.com Ulla Johnson | www.ullajohnson.com   MINIMALIST NEUTRAL: This really goes back to monochromatic dressing but with simpler, easy silhouettes. Pair some easy slacks, like a wide-leg, high-waisted pant that's comfortable with a bandeau top and a long cotton trench. Think of it as a long matching set.  Designers were showing muted colors like grey, sea foam, ivory, and the beiges.  See Holly's curated Pinterest board this week for images of this trend, and everything discussed today.  DECONSTRUCTION DRESSING: What is deconstruction dressing? It looks like one garment that was totally made up of pieces of other garments. Designer Thom Browne is well-known for this style, and many others have taken men's dress skirts and blazers and cut them into new items while maintaining their original elements. It may not be a look for everyone, much but one that will always leave you as a conversation starter!   Brands to Shop: Thom Browne | www.thombrowne.com Monse | https://monse.com/   STORYBOOK DRESSING: Think of the Grimm's Fairy Tales. In the old days, we called it Goth.  Holly saw it all: old-school 1990-2000s Gothic! Yes, you heard it right. It's painful: Rave pants with chains, bonnets, dark makeup, Victorian-style boots, Peter Pan collars just like the Adams Family, petticoats, and layered dresses with really large collars. As she has said before: the 90s are back. Ugh!    Holly has already warned you that if you're seeing this trend for the 2nd time around, it's okay if you want to wear ONE element of a trend. Moderation, people!! For many of us though, this is a trend we are seeing this again and might bring back some not-so-great college outfit memories. Tread carefully!   POP ART CLOTHING: NYFW was full of models walking down the catwalks wearing art-inspired images on clothing. And just like art, style is subjective. This trend must make sense for you and your lifestyle.  It will be interesting to see what you like out of these trends - and how the stores will be interpreting the trickle-down effect to the middle-American customer. Let us know what you like and if you try one of these new trends! We'd love to hear from you! LOVE us, FOLLOW us, SHARE us, DM us! OMG: Our “Very Best Gay of the Podcast,” Mr. Nolan Meader, is BACK this week!    Since it's summer and everyone is sending us “Out of Office” replies (RUDE!), Holly and Nolan decided to shoot the shit about what they have been up to lately, what fashion adventures they will be having next – and for the first time ever – a list of Holly and Nolan's Personal Fashion Crimes!!   Yes, it can happen to even the best of us.    As Nolan loves to say: “Style is a journey. We are constantly evolving our style and tastes, and that is OK. However, it is still fun to make fun the of dumb stuff we do sometimes.”   This week's episode starts with a recap of Nolan's fabulous fashion life. He is a busy working gal about town (NYC), styling people near and far (Milan), managing fashion events, eating desserts… you know, important stuff!   LISTEN HERE!!    Of course, along the way, they do get a bit side-tracked here (look, a squirrel!) with a story about a trip to one of Nolan's favorite designer showrooms: Markarian.    This designer combines timeless design with modern grace, and her clothes are TO.DIE.FOR. They are very dressy designs, and once Holly was in the door, it was game-over shopping!   Other fun events of recent weeks include celebrating up-and-coming designers at the NYC Fashion Group International (FGI) annual “Rising Stars” event. One of our Podcast Besties and past guests, Julie Lamb, was awarded the Rising Star Award for Jewelry Design.    (If you missed that episode, jump over to EP 93 | Julie Lamb NY.)    This daytime event, and dinner afterward with Fashion super stars like Global Fashion Ambassador Ken Downing and more, was a spectacular celebration with the true fashion insiders of NYC!    Finally, Holly and Nolan finally move on to their own Personal Fashion Crimes of late, poking a lot of fun at themselves. What are Fairy Gay Mothers for anyway?? Amiright??   In the words of the legendary Joan Rivers: “When you can laugh at yourself no one can ever make a fool of you.”   Nolan's Top Personal Fashion Crimes:   A bronze/rust colored silk trench coat with crystal trim embellishments. Drinking 8 glasses of cognac when you don't drink cognac and have an 8:00 a.m. styling appointment the next day. Shopping drunk resulted in a very expensive purchase. As a reminder for fans of the podcast, Nolan has a “Coat Problem.” (Not a Coke Problem!)   “The moral of the story is: do not irresponsibly spend money while you're still drunk from the night before unnecessarily on a distressed leather trench coat, because how many times am I really going to wear that?” – Nolan Meader, Coat Addict   Splitting the crotch out of some very expensive pants at a fashion show, and having to continue on to other events afterward, literally with his ass hanging out. Buying something that everyone has - and that you think you must have - but it looks like shit on you. His crime was a Marine Serre Half-Moon turtleneck. Holly also tried multiple times to call Nolan out on his favorite green sequin turtleneck which might or might not make him look like Aquaman, but he would not have it. At all.  Constantly buying new dress shoes when he only wears his one favorite pair. Don't buy shit you will never wear, or do not need… Like his “Eiffel Tower” rhinestone black blazer, maybe!?   Holly's Personal Fashion Crimes:   Wearing an amazing sequin trench coat combined with too many other statement pieces: she wore it with a patterned dress from Japan, printed Gucci boots AND a fringe leather piece all at the same time. TOO MUCH. A hot pink and black bandage dress (a style from the 80s) with a cut out detail reimagined by Proenza Schouler. Damn- hate to see this go. Nolan insists it will be sold on The RealReal asap.  Gucci Horsebit Clogs. Nolan says: “You look like a Mennonite working on a farm.” No. Her ostrich feather BCBG eggplant purple vest. We can't even find an example of that one. Nolan said it was too chicken-esque. Her honeymoon travel outfit: a bright pink Lilly Pulitzer suit with gold lame trim. It had so much gold thread that she couldn't even get through the metal detector at the airport. (TBH: Nolan was only in the 7th grade at the time, and Holly didn't have a stylist yet.)   Lessons learned today? Everyone has their own style. What we wear in fashion. A fashion crime occurs when your individual style has a trainwreck with fashion.    (We know that feels like a math equation. Try to keep up.)   So, what is next for our favorite personal stylists? A lot of fashion events, and a lot of travel to Europe: London and Paris to start.    Stay tuned for these adventures and more!! And don't forget: our 100th episode is coming up and we have a mind-blowing special guest. Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez speak to BoF's Lauren Sherman about their journey from one-time fashion wunderkinds to seasoned entrepreneurs, navigating a series of ups and downs. Fresh out of fashion school — armed with approval from then Barneys New York fashion director Julie Gilhart, who bought their Parsons senior thesis collection in 2002, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who helped them stage their first show in 2003 — Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez followed early 2000s American fashion's script for success. They took investment quickly, produced buzzy runway shows and an ‘it' item in the form of the PS1 bag, and began launching new categories and distribution deals — but struggled to achieve sustained commercial success. “By 2018, the board of directors was quite large and in charge and we weren't. That's when, I guess, shit hit the fan,” said Hernandez.  So, 15 years after its 2002 launch and on the brink of bankruptcy, McCollough and Hernandez bought Proenza Schouler back from private equity firm Castanea Partners, installed fashion turnaround veteran Kay Hong as chief executive, and positioned the brand for growth in 2020, just before the pandemic hit. It appears their strategy is working: Proenza Schouler broke even in 2021 and is on a path to profitability in 2022.  On the latest episode of The BoF Podcast, McCullough and Hernandez join BoF's chief correspondent Lauren Sherman following her feature, “The Nine Lives of Proenza Schouler,” to chat about their experience so far — and the brand's next chapter. Matthew Herman talks with Jess about what inspired him and co-founder David Kien to create Boy Smells, a buzzy brand that makes "genderful" candles, perfumes, and underwear. Matthew, a former fashion designer for brands like Proenza Schouler and Nasty Gal, shares the story of his fragrance company's mega-rise during the pandemic, tells us about the time collaborator Kacey Musgraves popped up in his DMs, and explains why beauty is embracing gender inclusivity better than the fashion industry.Episode recap and sponsor promo codes: fatmascara.com/blogShop the products mentioned on this episode: shopmyshelf.us/collections/35177Private Facebook Group: Fat Mascara Raising a WandSocial media: @fatmascara, @jessicamatlin, @jenn_editSubmit a "Raise A Wand" product recommendation and be featured on the show: email info@fatmascara.com or leave a voicemail at 646-481-8182 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. NYFW Wrap Party with Holly and Nolan

Straight from New York Fashion Week: There is no intro that will do this episode justice: THIS. IS. EPIC. In case you have been living under a rock, Holly and Nolan attended #NYFW last week, and managed to see just about every angle of it - from top designer shows to after parties to the #VMAs and even a #MetGala after party!!! Their asses were dragged all over town - from all the #COVID tests they had to take to all the amazing shows they got into!   Here is the list of designer shows attended – and this week, we spend ENDLESS time discussing IN DETAIL, because they were so freaking fabulous: #KateSpade (presentation) #Patbo #OscardelaRenta (presentation) #CynthiaRowley #ProenzaSchouler #Monse #Bulgari #FrederickAnderson #DennisBasso  #Naeem Khan #NY Mens Day featuring:  Fried Rice The Stolen Garment A. Potts Collection Carter Young It was so amazing to see all of this City back online again...  All of the designers, fashion editors, famous people, models, DJs, music artists, influencers, new designers, new brands, old friends and literally all of New York City.  (One of Holly's favs was Botox the Dog, look it up!)   All was going along swimmingly, until Nolan crossed his legs and audibly SPLIT THE ASS OF HIS PANTS OUT at the Frederick Anderson show. #CandaceBushnell was there, as well as some of the #Hermès heirs, and a sprinkling of fancy schmancy NYC socialites - all whom heard the whole deal. But not to be defeated, afterward, our Nolie then walked down Park Ave with his neon boxers hanging out, because he is NOT going to miss an after party. “It was funny, but it also sucked.” – Nolan Learn about all of the outrageous venues the designers chose to present this year: from a skate park in the rain at Chelsea Piers, to the #MeatpackingDistrict and #BatteryPark to #LittleIsland on the Hudson River, and even #RockefellerCenter – all gorgeous and fun settings that added spectacular layers to the art and fashion of the week.   We do have to take a moment to discuss Holly's PRIMA DONNA COMPLEX during the week. At the Monse show, she flat-out refused to give up her front row seat when some “manager” asked her (DUH).  But some poor saps did get moved, and then #ParisHilton and #NikkiHilton sat down from her...like 3 seats down. Paris - with her GARGANTUAN diamond engagement ring. Really, it was completely blinding. Holly is still talking about it.   Holly also lost her composure – but only for a second – while standing in line for a show (AFTER ON-DEMAND COVID TESTING, and registration, etc.) - and was cut off just as it was their turn. But, with one little Karen-esque scene, they all ended up with tickets to the VMAs, so you are welcome. I mean, it really was her best work.   Did we mention yet (only 3 times) that Holly and Nolan ended up at the #VMAs? It was BE-YOND, and then Nolan dumped his friends and got to go backstage and found better seats without the rest of the crew. Not that we are mad or anything. We were just 80% happy for him.    #BustaRhymes and #DojaCat ended up being favs of the night.  Be sure to check out Holly and Nolan's “David and Moira” moment. For the VMAs, Nolan says he ‘looked like a pimp' and Holly had a fashion identity crisis, which in the end, ending up being one of their better fashion moments after all. But there was some painful banter getting there.  OK, that's a wrap. As Holly says: “We had a great time, we met some new people. We reconnected with old folks that we knew. We have some new fans of the podcast. We have some newer friendships. So, it was great!”   LINKS DISCUSSED:  NYFW: https://nyfw.com/home/ Kate Spade: https://www.katespade.com/ Patbo : https://patbo.com/ Cynthia Rowley : https://cynthiarowley.com/ Proenza Schouler : https://www.proenzaschouler.com/ Monse: https://monse.com Bulgari: https://www.bulgari.com/en-us/watches/mens Frederick Anderson: https://www.frederickandersoncollection.com/ Dennis Basso: https://dennisbasso.com/ QUOTES: “The party was black tie, which is a big departure for me, because I'm a 95-year-old woman from Palm Beach on the inside. So, to go to a party that doesn't even start until 11, which is after my bedtime? I was just watching NCIS and drinking espresso to make it.” - Nolan   #KateSpade #Patbo #OscardelaRenta #CynthiaRowley #ProenzaSchouler #Monse #Bulgari #FrederickAnderson #DennisBasso #NYFW #HollyKatzStyling #StyleByNolan #Fashion, #FashionStyle #FashionShows #FashionWeek, #FashionCrimesPodcast #FashionPodcast #FashionStylist #NewYorkFashionWeek

075 Joseph Altuzarra: Finds Fashion's Perfect Balance

You get the sense, when you speak to designer Joseph Altuzarra, that he is that perfect combination of creativity and commerce. That as a French American, he has an innate sense of style coursing through his veins. While his American roots give him savvy business sense and a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” attitude. From a young age, Joseph - who was raised by his French Basque father and Chinese- American mother - has always believed in the transformative power of fashion. A self-taught designer who got a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Art History from Swarthmore College, his approach to this sartorial art form has always been focused on how the clothes someone chooses to wear tell a larger story. It can be the story of who that individual is or it can be one about the person they hope to become. That clothing telegraphs a message to the world about how we see ourselves. As luck would have it, Joseph landed an internship in the design studio of Marc Jacobs in 2004 and he went on to work with Proenza Schouler before getting tapped by Riccardo Tisci to join him in Paris and become the designer’s first apprentice during his tenure at Givenchy. Then in 2008, Joseph returned to New York to strike out on his own. And from the moment he launched his signature brand, his work stood out from the other fashion collections being shown at New York Fashion Week. His sexy, sensual aesthetic that wove together elements of his multicultural heritage into his designs did not fit into the American Sportswear approach of many of his peers at that time. But standing out from the crowd served Joseph well. He was honored with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in 2011 and the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear Design in 2012. He was then named the winner of the US Woolmark Prize in 2013 and in 2014 he nabbed the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Suffice to say, Joseph, with his accolades, his brand collaboration with Target, and his stint as a judge on the first season of the Amazon Prime television series “Making the Cut” turned Altuzarra into a household name. And now with his label well established in the fashion industry, Joseph is thinking about where he wants to take things from here. In our conversation, we discuss what the future holds for this talented designer as he looks at his career from a post-pandemic perspective. A viewpoint that has been changed by the arrival of his daughter Emma and a desire to lead a balanced and intentional life. But one that will always have fashion at its heart.

Not even a country wide winter storm could stop the kickoff of Fashion Month! And thank goodness because we all needed something good. New York didn’t disappoint with Proenza Schouler acting as a particularly bright spot and Jason Wu giving us some covet worthy coats. Rebecca Minkoff was consistent offering her usual easy to wear dresses and bags, but this time with vegan leather options. This week’s Style Snacks is entertainment jam packed with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s pregnancy announcement, Kim and Kanye’s divorce, the SATC reboot missing even more key characters and the Cruella movie trailer drop. Not to worry, some fashion news happened too – John Legend x Sperry debuts, Alexander McQueen becomes the first in Vestaire Collective’s “Brand Approved” program and a fashion exhibit is actually happening in real life in Paris. www.runwaywalkscurrenttalks.com https://www.instagram.com/runwaywalkscurrenttalks/ https://twitter.com/RunwayTalks https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW7W32h_5l7nnlrL1vazjlw/featured

Melling always wanted to work in fashion, and with a bit of luck, good timing, and the smart decision to dress for the job she wanted, not the job she had, she landed the coveted title of a fashion assistant at Vogue early in her career. But that was only the start of her journey toward creating her own consulting business and co-founding fashion brand La Ligne.

A fashion executive is catching flak, Singles Day was a hit (again), and the Proenza Schouler boys bought back their company. Is calling out individual counterfeit buyers going too far? Why is Canada's favorite songstress launching a kids' fashion line? (Why NOT, thought?) Marc Jacobs is bringing back the collection that got him fired, and the next trend in skin care feels so apocalyptic. Come hang out! The Style That Binds Us
Daniella Kallmeyer of KALLMEYER New York on How-To Inherently Know Your Customer

The Style That Binds Us

Daniella Kallmeyer is the Owner/Designer of KALLMEYER New York. She got a Bachelor's Degree at London College of Fashion, majoring in Fashion Design & Technology. She interned/worked at LUCA LUCA, Proenza Schouler, McQ Alexander McQueen and Alice & Olivia before starting her own line in 2011. Daniella's family is from South Africa. Her grandmother, a dressmaker, lived in New York and therefore,  Daniella spent a lot of time there growing up. She always knew she was going to end up living in NYC. From her travels, she has paid attention to the way people present themselves and how they behave. She understands the way people work inherently and how wearing a garment contributes to someone's identity.   Working with Lee McQueen of Alexander McQueen taught her perfectionism is important no matter how many times it takes to get to the final product. She worked on McQ which had a smaller team within Alexander McQueen. Her experience at McQ was more isolated and controlled which helped her take luxury consideration of design and transform it into a relatable context. Lee would come and review the textile work or the colors, references, inspiration, sketches, drapery, etc. She was able to take the inspiration from the couture collections of Alexander McQueen and translate it to the everyday woman for McQ which was a lightbulb moment for her to know how important it is to give this option to people.    She started her experience in the fashion world with LUCA LUCA. There was an intimacy to his design and the way the details & quality mattered. Having this as her first experience in this world, educating herself and understanding the industry was extremely influential. She payed attention to the interactions Luca had with others in the showroom, design studio and the store which explained to her early on why fashion and designing in this way matters.    Next, she interned with Proenza Schouler when they were a relatively small brand. Seeing the level of detail and uninhibited creativity catapulted her into a whole new level of desire to be a part of this world. Getting hired at Proenza had a lot to do with having worked at Alexander McQueen since they knew she was coming from an environment with that kind of challenge and authentic design process.    Growing up when she stayed with her grandmother, there was a sewing machine on the kitchen table and they'd get to fix up things or make changes, sew skirts, etc. She had an excitement and passion around these memories. She remembers laying her sister on this huge sheet of white paper and tracing her out. This was her first experience making a pattern at age eight. They had black and gold lame fabric laying around the house and she ended up using that to make a flat paper doll dress. For her graduation, she put together a collection with 21 looks. She always knew she wanted to be a designer, but it was a different kind of decision to start her own line after having experiences working for established brands.    Every good business comes from a need to fill a space and a lack of something. In her early twenties, she felt there was something missing in the contemporary accessibility space. She wanted a brand with international sophistication. A garment you can wear in front of your grandparents, best friends, business partners, interviews, first dates, etc that was accessible from both price point and lifestyle perspective, but that had a sense of personal grandeur with class, sophistication and timelessness.    Price point starts with aesthetic. How many places can they wear this? What does it mean for them to wear it in both a casual and formal way? Can it be both? Is it too much or too little of something? She understands construction and quality from her background because of the tai --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/delia-folk8/support
