In this episode of CISO IT, host Jason Kikta, CTO of Automox, brings you insights straight from the floor of Microsoft Ignite. After meeting with customers, partners, and countless IT pros, one message came through loud and clear: reliability and consolidation matter now more than ever.Jason breaks down why teams are exhausted by tool sprawl, frustrated by unreliable platforms, and ready to reclaim time by eliminating manual, repetitive work. From the renewed demand for a unified operational view to the rising expectation that software simply works, this conversation explores the real-world pressures facing IT in 2025.He also dives into the industry's growing shift toward automation and agentic AI, including how MCP servers are expanding what's possible for modern IT environments – and why progress, not perfection, remains the guiding principle for practitioners everywhere.Whether you're fighting tool fatigue, navigating evolving IT stacks, or exploring the next wave of AI-driven operations, this episode offers a grounded, practitioner-first perspective from one of the most influential events of the year.Tune in for insights from the Ignite show floor and a candid look at the future of IT operations.

SQL Server 2025 was released this week. The announcement came at Ignite and the PASS Data Community Summit with keynotes on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. While there are some things to look forward to in the release (What's New) and some highlights from T-SQL Tuesday this week, it seems that this release wasn't a very exciting one. On one hand, I blame all the Microsoft Fabric focus, which seems to distract from the core product that powers the databases at many organizations.  The SQL Server blog from Microsoft has had relatively few posts this year, highlighting a few things. The Fabric blog gets more posts, which is something I've seen at Database Weekly as well. As I curate the content during my week, I find a lot more Fabric-focused content than SQL Server-specific posts. That contributes to a lack of excitement for a new version of SQL Server. Welcome to the Find Your Fierce Podcast, where you will discover your fierce, unlock an unstoppable mindset, build unbreakable courage, and completely transform how you show up every single day. I'm your host, Jill Allen, and I'm so glad you're joining me today. In this episode of Find Your Fierce, I'm joined by someone who means the world to me — my daughter, Harper. It's been a few years since she was last on the podcast, and I'm beyond excited for you to hear her thoughts on discipline, leadership, and staying true to yourself in a world full of distractions. Harper is a driven senior who's not only crushing it in cross-country, basketball, and track, but she's also got a wisdom about her that constantly amazes me. Honestly, she teaches me something new every single day. In this conversation, we dive into what it really means to show up consistently — even when no one's watching or clapping. Harper opens up about how she handles pressure, what she does when motivation dips, and how she leans into the small, everyday habits that make a big difference. These are the quiet wins that no one sees, but they matter the most. It's all about leading with purpose, staying grounded, and keeping your "why" at the forefront — even when the easy path is staring you in the face. Here's a sneak peek of what we talk about: 2:05 — From freshman year to her senior year: the highs, the challenges, and everything in between in both athletics and academics. 6:10 — What keeps Harper going when motivation is low and no one is cheering her on. 9:40 — How she deals with comparison, perfectionism, and those internal voices that can sometimes be her biggest roadblocks. 13:20 — Why she chooses the harder, narrower path and how she stays true to her calling, even when shortcuts look tempting. 17:05 — Leading through empathy, building relationships, and holding herself (and others) to a higher standard. 21:15 — How she stays emotionally, physically, and spiritually grounded, even with a jam-packed schedule. 24:30 — Harper shares her favorite quote, her go-to habits, what she refuses to compromise on, and the advice she'd give her younger self. Key Takeaways: Leadership is built through relationships, connection, and showing up consistently, not just titles or accolades. -Jill Your quiet wins matter: what you do when no one is watching shapes your character and your future success. Staying grounded in identity, faith, and purpose helps navigate pressure, comparison, and burnout. -Harper Check out my favorite health must-haves HERE! Their fall concert, whose theme is “Ignite!,” takes place 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at South High School in Minneapolis.Maren says: This is an incredible group that is 140 voices, all non-auditioned, but incredibly professionally sounding. There's percussion, there's a string quartet happening. There's some great jazz arrangements that are happening. There's all six-part harmony of all these women's voices raised in song. And I don't know about you, but we're living in a rather divided time right now, so a little bit of harmony would actually be soothing to my soul.— Jen MarenCelebrating Latinidad on screenFilmmaker Maxie Rockymore is looking forward to the inaugural Serpentina Arts Film Festival at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25. at The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis. The free event promises a range of styles of short films, all created by Minnesota-based Latin filmmakers. The theme is “Celebrating Latinidad Through Short Films.”Rockymore explains why this film festival is important to her: When people share stories, and share other people's stories, that's when we connect and realize that we are all one. That's what filmmaking, I think, does for people.— Maxie RockymoreHoliday jazz with heartAaron Lohmeyer is an associate professor of music education and jazz band director at Winona State University, and he wants people to know about the holiday album release of a Winona band that's also a family affair. H3O Jazz Trio is the work of Eric Heukeshoven and his sons, Max and Hans, with wife Janet Heukeshoven as a frequent musical guest. They celebrate the release of their second album, “Combo Carols,” at the Steele County Historical Society in Owatonna at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. The songs are mash-ups of holiday carols and jazz standards. The trio also holds jam sessions at Two Fathoms Brewing in Winona on the third Sunday of every month.Aaron says: One neat thing about the H3O trio is that their jam sessions also function as a fundraiser for area nonprofits. So it's not only a family band, but it's a band with a mission, and their commitment to give back to the community through music is really unique.— Aaron Lohmeyer

The Lawyer's Edge

Lisa Sawyer Derman is the Founder and CEO of Five Springs Infused Bourbon, a bourbon brand that blends Kentucky roots with modern, mixable flavor. Before launching Five Springs, Lisa spent more than 30 years in the global spirits industry, building and leading some of the world's top alcohol brands. Her career includes serving as Chief Operating Officer at Stoli Group, Head of Legal at Absolut, and the Head of the North Division at The Macallan. Drawing on her legal background and executive leadership experience, Lisa launched Five Springs in 2024 with three distinctive expressions—Vanilla Maple, Honey Sage, and Blood Orange—crafted to be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails. Five Springs is designed to make bourbon more approachable and inclusive for a wider range of drinkers and is currently available online nationwide and at retail in multiple states. WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS EPISODE ABOUT BUILDING A BOURBON BRAND Launching a spirits brand is nothing like selling a typical consumer product. The industry is heavily regulated, the three-tier system slows everything down, and it can take years before a product reaches a shelf. After spending more than 30 years as a lawyer and senior executive in the global spirits industry, Lisa Sawyer Derman knew the legal, operational, and financial pieces she would need to get right. Instead of starting with a big marketing push, she tested the product at home, refined the formulas with her family, and proved the concept in two markets before expanding. Her background in deals, regulation, branding, and operations helped her avoid costly mistakes and build a bourbon brand designed to be more approachable and mixable. In this episode of The Lawyer's Edge, Elise talks with Lisa about moving from legal roles into business leadership, launching in a highly regulated industry, learning from founders she worked with along the way, and how she used three decades of industry experience to shortcut the hardest parts of alcohol startups and launch a bourbon brand built for today's drinkers. 2:26 — How a summer mentor pulled her into alcohol beverage law 6:36 — Moving in-house and shifting from legal to deals and operations 11:39 — Using regulatory experience to reduce startup risk (labels, formulas, distributors) 15:05 — Kitchen experiments lead to the infused-bourbon concept for cocktails 18:59 — Testing before investing: launching first in New Jersey and Kentucky 23:35 — From behind-the-scenes lawyer to founder as the face of the brand 26:13 — Handling skepticism in a crowded category and staying with the strategy 29:33 — Advice to younger lawyers: training, mentors, specialization 33:26 — What she tells lawyers who want to start a business 35:49 — Trust your instincts instead of assuming anyone else knows better than you Mentioned In Legal Spirits: How One Lawyer Turned a Legal Career into a Bourbon Brand Five Springs Infused Bourbon | Instagram Get connected with the coaching team: hello@thelawyersedge.com The Lawyer's Edge SPONSOR FOR THIS EPISODE Today's episode is brought to you by the Ignite Women's Business Development Accelerator, a 9-month business development program created BY women lawyers for women lawyers. Is menopause more than just mood swings, night sweats, and weight changes? What if this transformative life stage also unlocks a hidden immune wildfire—turning on or worsening autoimmune conditions? In this episode of the Paloma podcast, we unravel the surprising connection between menopause and autoimmune disease, diving deep into how the drop in estrogen and shifting hormones could reshape your immune landscape. Based on insights from Paloma Health, we'll explore how declining ovarian hormones can influence T cells, inflammation, and the potential onset or flare of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Here's what you'll hear:The science behind how estrogen loss during menopause impacts immune regulation—and why that matters. Why some autoimmune symptoms may *emerge* around menopause, even if you've never had one. Why others might actually feel some relief — and how inflammation and hormone therapy play both roles. Important strategies for managing immunity during menopause: what to track, which biomarkers to test, and how to partner with your healthcare team. Whether you're navigating menopause and worried about autoimmune risk, or already living with an autoimmune condition and wondering how this hormonal shift will affect you — this episode shines a light on the immune-hormone crossroads many don't talk about.

I've experienced my fair share of turmoil in life, both business and personal. What that has taught me is that chaos and friction are the biggest indicators that change is necessary. In this episode, I'll share what you can do to mitigate friction and achieve the transformation that will take you one step further on your journey. Here are 3 Key Takeaways:Embrace the Chaos: Depending on what experiences you've had, you may not take kindly to chaos. My encounters, however, have led me to understand that I must first embrace the disorder and identify the root of the chaos. Instead of desperately fighting or rejecting the chaos, acknowledging it as a symbol of change is the way to go.Team Communication is Key: When I'm facing chaos, I prefer to communicate with my team and discuss how we can collaborate to reduce the friction. I've found that this leads not only to effective solutions but also builds a stronger knit and more optimal network which prevents problems from reoccurring. Master Your Methodology: I focus on seamless integration of sales and marketing to streamline my business operations. A well-executed marketing strategy ensures your audience knows, likes, and trusts you, simplifying the sales process and driving revenue. I always say excellent marketing without ample work in sales is like walking away from a gold mine.Ready to Master Your Mindset, Mission, and Message? If today's episode spoke to you, don't just listen—step behind the curtain and join the Journey Feed.
