In this new episode of The Marketing Consultation, we are joined by Susan Willig, a marketing leader with significant experience in the healthcare sector, particularly in brand strategy and patient access. The discussion delves into the importance of early market positioning for startups and strategies for differentiating a brand in a crowded market. Susan emphasizes the necessity of establishing a strong value proposition early on. This involves understanding the target market and setting a solid brand strategy foundation, which guides all subsequent efforts and resource allocation. In a crowded market, creating memorable customer experiences, or "delighters," is crucial. Susan advocates for developing detailed Personas through both qualitative and quantitative research. This deep understanding empowers employees to better serve the audience, ultimately leading to more effective marketing strategies. Addressing the challenge of resource constraints, Susan recommends focusing on purposeful content creation and effective use of content calendars. She highlights the importance of behavioral change in marketing, ensuring content supports the audience throughout their journey. Susan shares her process of defining a compelling value proposition, which involves understanding current and desired behaviors of the target audience and clearly articulating how the product meets those needs uniquely. Consistency in messaging is vital, but Susan acknowledges the need for adaptation based on market feedback and new insights. The conversation also touches on personal branding, with Susan discussing its importance, which mirrors brand strategy principles. Understanding one's core competencies and communicating them clearly and authentically is key to building a strong personal brand. Overall, Susan's insights offer valuable guidance for healthcare marketers, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning, understanding the audience, and maintaining consistency while being adaptable.

Do you really need a roadmap?   Maybe, maybe not.   What if you have a road map, and it's the wrong one?  How will you know to pivot and go down a different path if you're following the wrong road map?   My guest on this week's podcast is Justine Fedak, and she cautions us, "maybe you're not getting what you want because it's part of your journey."   Maybe you have exactly what you need, albeit not what you thought you wanted, and that new road will be even better?   Ugh. I know, life is hard. It never goes exactly according to our plan.   That's why, although you work hard at it, it's exhausting at times, and exhilarating at times.   Maybe if your road map changes, you will become an "accidental expert", like Justine.   Who knows! How to Create a Compelling Tagline

Hello everyone, my name is Scott Seroka, Chief Brand Strategist and Principal of Seroka, a brand development and strategic communications agency specializing in the mortgage and fintech industries. I want to welcome you to my very first, of what will be a robust series of podcasts, and I also want to thank you for your interest in listening, as I know you have many options available to you. I’ll call this episode number one, and today’s topic will be focused on the five steps to creating a winning tagline. This topic is actually quite controversial, namely because there are quite a few different definitions of what a tagline is, authored by many great brand leaders from very well-known brands. In fact, if you were to google the phrase, “definition of tagline,” you would have quite a few different results, and quite a few different versions. What I’ve found in my research is that, for the most part, many of those definitions share common denominators that most people would agree with. So, let’s start here. Have you ever seen a tagline and wondered what in the heck it meant? Let me give you a few examples: · Adidas adopted the tagline, Impossible is nothing, which no one really understood. · FedEx actually had a tagline that read, Why fool around with anyone else?· FileMaker Pro, promoted the tagline, What’s your problem?· And, Blockbuster video had the tagline, No more late fees. The start of more. Now, each one of these taglines lived a very short life, anywhere from just a few days to a week because as soon as they were released into the wild, they were quickly met with ridicule and criticism. In my estimation, this is typically what happens when the desire to be cute and clever gets in the way of what a tagline is really meant to do: provide a memorable and succinct statement that sums up the essence of a brand. My point in sharing these examples with is this: If consumers need to stop and think about what your tagline means, it failed to do its job. Game over. Going to market with such profound or philosophical taglines simply creates brand confusion and hence, alienates the very people the brand wishes to attract. So, let’s talk about you and your company. I’m assuming you’re not a CEO who needs, or would benefit from having a compelling tagline that tells people exactly why they should be doing business with you, versus with your competition. I’m going to set the stage by breaking this down into two unique parts. The first part is defining what you do, and what I mean by that is defining your business model as well as your product and service offerings. The second part is focused on defining the essence of your brand. I want to cite two of my favorite tagline examples to support my points. The first one is Avis. Avis is a very well-known rental car company. What Avis does is rent vehicles. However, the essence of the Avis brand is going above and beyond, which was intelligently communicated through their tagline, We try harder. This happens to be one of my favorite examples because it is a very compelling tagline, and it tells customers that Avis will try harder than other rental car companies to make its customers happy. It is a brilliant example of how they separate themselves from other rental car companies. Another example is Apple. What Apple does is design and manufacture cool computers and electric devices. However, the essence Apple’s brand is challenging the status quo. They communicated this in their early tagline Think different. The bonus to this tagline was that it was also a call to action for consumers. Apple has stayed true to this brand since the beginning, and they have successfully&

13: A Non-Traditional Franchise Financing Option, With Guest Ron Feldman

Franchise Secrets Podcast

If you’re looking at funding options as a new franchisee and are struggling with the franchise financing options available to you, we’re here to tell you there are options. You can certainly go a traditional route through a bank, but sometimes it just isn't possible. Luckily, there are more non-traditional routes available to you. In this episode, I talk with Apple Pie Capital Chief Development Officer (CDO) Ron Feldman about the ins and outs of financing, franchise validation, resources available to you—and more. Ron started in the franchise industry when he and his wife purchased into The Goddard School Franchise. He has also worked as the Chief Development Officer at FRANdata and was the Chief Brand Strategist with Siegel Financial Group. Ron gives us insight into his unique and extensive background in franchising that you don’t want to miss! Outline of This Episode [0:41] Ron Feldman Introduction [5:53] What is Apple Pie and how is it different? [11:21] What does Apple Pie look for in emerging brands? [13:50] Definition of an emerging brand [18:20] Resources for franchisees [21:55] How do you look at item 19? [24:00] Validation is absolutely critical to the process [30:42] Successful franchises and what to look for [35:40] Combining brands and resources [42:57] Why you need a professional team surrounding you What is Apple Pie Capital and how is it different than traditional lending? I first came across Apple Pie Capital when I had already launched two of my franchise locations with Sola Salon Studios—and then the SBA refused to finance the 3rd. Our lending partner was gone. I was an established franchisee with an established brand but was suddenly forced to find a different option. This is where a non-traditional franchise lender became my solution and could be yours as well. They provide a unique online platform that is a streamlined and simple solution for someone in the franchise industry to source funding. One of the top lenders in the business, their focus is to lower barriers to entry. They do so by handling everything from start to finish, beginning with one easy online application, then laying out all of your options. They actually want to help you achieve your goals and to grow smartly. They are one of the few lenders who only work in franchising.  Why the difference between a “start-up” and “emerging brand” matters when it comes down to Franchise Financing If you’re looking at buying a franchise but want to jump in on an emerging brand, there are some things you should consider. First, you want to invest in an emerging brand and not a start-up. For the purpose of this explanation, a start-up is a franchise that has fewer than 25 franchise units. An emerging brand is considered a franchise with 25-100 units open and running. If a franchise has sold over 100 units, they are likely no longer relying on the franchise fees for their overhead costs (which is crucial).  So why does this matter? You need to give a particular franchise time to become a proven brand. Apple Pie is more willing to lend you money faster than any other lender—but they also need a way to measure their investment. If a franchise has 10 or more years of operating history or they have 25 units open for 3+ years APC considers them an emerging brand that they’re willing to dive into with you. Keep listening to our conversation as we cover the details, and talk about some of the resources available for new franchises. As an emerging brand, you’ll want to take advantage of networking opportunities As an emerging franchisor or someone who’s bought a new franchise, you’re going to have a lot to learn. Some great opportunities for learning come from conferences geared towards franchisees. The International Franchise Association hosts a conference geared exactly towards those just starting out in the market. So if you’re newer in the industry, this one is a great place to start. A couple of other resources that Ron and I both recommend include the UnConference and the Springboard conference. They are founded and hosted by some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry. Events like these can be a great way to learn from others what to do, what not to do, and a way to make lasting connections. Keep listening for another great way to learn the ins and outs of franchising. The importance of the validation process for the potential franchisee One of Ron’s favorite quotes is by Anthony Martino, “franchising is simple, as long as franchisees make money”. While funny, it’s completely on the nose. Apple Pie Capital utilizes research from FRANdata as well as their own personal experience to validate the franchise you’re buying. They’re able to get a lot of data that you as the franchisee don’t have access to. Likewise, you need to be diligent with your own validation process, which we cover more in-depth in this podcast. You need to reach out to current franchisees and question them about every part of the process. Ron shares that they got more calls from prospective franchisees for The Goddard School when they sold than any of the 10 years they operated it. Listen to the rest of the episode as he explains why this was so smart and the right questions to ask. We recently hosted a webcast conversation between Jessica Korthuis, Founder and Chief Brand Strategist at SOHUIS, and Elliot Susel, Lean Startup Co. Faculty Member, to discuss how you can incorporate lean into your marketing and brand strategy. In Jessica and Elliot’s conversation, they discuss: - What companies should do before making the decision to rebrand. - Tools and exercises that can help you execute a successful brand strategy. - How to validate the brand strategy you implemented actually worked. And much, much more… Jessica Korthuis started her first company with her husband after her corporate dream job was eliminated. She didn’t have a ton of experience helping entrepreneurs brand themselves but she had a lot of experience in marketing communications and a can-do spirit. “We built this super-crappy website and then poof, we just started our first agency,” Jessica said. The agency grew organically to include such clients as TED Women, Red Bull and Stanford University, but was completely bootstrapped. “It was this absolutely scrappy thing,” Jessica said. Through the local business ecosystem in Orlando, Florida she learned about Lean Startup, which is where she got involved in helping entrepreneurs brand themselves using Lean Startup tools. Jessica admitted that she was naive at that early stage of her business, but that was both a strength and a weakness. On the one hand, she said, it helped not to know how much work was in front of them, but it was also scary. Her biggest takeaway from starting with so little knowledge is that sometimes the best thing to do is to, “Just start.” Once she was deeper into the process, Jessica saw the value in Lean Startup methods and began to use it, suggesting founders should learn who your early adopters are going to be and determine your minimum viable product (MVP) as early as possible, but “Don’t try to slay the dragon all at once,” she said. I had a chance to recently sit down with Re Perez of BRANDING FOR THE PEOPLE. I've known of Re for a couple of years through our mutual relationship with the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. At this past conference I brought home some of his marketing materials and promptly reached out to see if he would be a guest on the show and he agreed. It was great talking to a brand strategist. I think you will learn a lot of general branding and marketing information from this episode in addition to many valuable tips for effectively marketing to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Happy listening! Here are some links derived directly from today's episode: BRANDING FOR THE PEOPLE. Also, check out when the next webinar is here. My book: No, wait… You do look gay! The 7 Mistakes Preventing You from Selling to the $830 Billion LGBT Market. Listen to the episode by clicking the play button below! Would you prefer to read the transcript than listen to the episode? No problem! Read the transcript below! AUDIO TITLE:  Episode #44 – An Interview with Re Perez Jenn T Grace: You are listening to the Gay Business and Marketing Made Easy Podcast, Episode 44. Intro: Welcome to the Gay Business and Marketing Made Easy Podcast where you'll learn how to do business with and market to the LGBT community in an authentic and transparent way. We're talking about the $790 billion lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender community. We'll help you grow your business, gain market share and impact your bottom line. And now your host - she's an entrepreneur, a marketing maven and an advocate for the LGBT business community. Jenn, with two N's, T. Grace. Jenn T Grace: Well hello and welcome to episode number 44 of the Gay Business and Marketing Made Easy Podcast. I am your host, Jenn Grace. I am delighted to be talking with you today as I always am. We are in the middle of October right now and it's starting to really get a little bit crisp around these parts up here in New England. I absolutely love it. I love the fall, I'm excited about it, and I just figured I would share that with you. I just got back in from an early morning run, and it was just gorgeous, and the leaves crunching under your feet which can also be equally as gorgeous as they can be a hazard to not falling on the ground which I did not do but I feel like it's in the back of my mind that I am waiting for it to happen one of these mornings. But it is what it is. I want to just talk about a couple of things before I get into today's episode which is in interview with Re Perez of Branding for the People. And I had just an awesome conversation with Re and we talked about his role as a Chief Brand Strategist as well as the CEO and Founder of Branding for the People. Which is an NGLCC certified LGBT-owned business. And he just shares so much good information about how he came to starting his business, what those 'ah-ha' moments looked like that made him want to start it and kind of guide him in that path of doing so. And then because he is a personal branding expert, we really got to talk about some really interesting things that I think are going to help you be a more effective marketer, or either an effective LGBT person marketing to other LGBT people, or a more effective ally. So I'm really excited about that, so I'm looking forward to getting your thoughts on this. So we will get into the interview in just a moment. Of course we do you know I always like to make a couple of announcements. And today's announcement- so today is, as this is being released, it is October 16th, and I am just a couple of weeks away from running my half marathon. And I am feeling quite confident at this point which has been kind of touch and go throughout; whether or not- you know some days I was like, "Oh I don't think I can do this," other days I'm like, "I've got it.
