"This holy ascetic had been living a whole sixty years in the desert when the monk Paphnutius visited him. His hair and beard reached down to the ground, and long hair, as white as snow, had grown all overy his body during his years of nakedness. His appearance was cadaverous, unearthly and awe-inspiring. Seeing Paphnutius, he called him by name and then recounted to him his life in the desert. His guardian angel had appeared to him and taken him to that place. He had for a long time only eaten earth, which was hard to find in the desert, and, after that, when he had survived an intensive struggle with diabolical temptations and when his heart had become utterly established in love for God, an angel had brought him bread to eat. And besides that, through God's gracious providence, a palm tree grew up at one side of his cell, that gave good dates, and a spring of water began to flow there. 'But especially,' said Onuphrios, 'my food and drink are the sweet words of God.' To Paphnutius' question about his receiving of Communion, the hermit answered that the angel of God brought him Communion every Saturday. On the next day, the old man told Paphnutius that it was the day of his departure from this world; then he knelt down, prayed to God and gave his spirit into God's hands. Then Paphnutius saw a heavenly light that illumined the body of the departed saint, and heard a choir of angelic hosts. He buried Onuphrios' body with honour and returned to his own monastery, there as a living witness to narrate to the brethren, for their edification, the wonderful life of the man of God and the greatness of God's providence towards those who give themselves wholly to His service." (Prologue)   The Great Horologion adds that Paphnutius intended to stay in the place where Onuphrios died, but soon the palm tree withered and the spring dried up, which Paphnutius took as a sign that he was meant to leave that place and return to live with the brethren.

Our journey through Mark's Gospel takes us to one of the most profound moments in Jesus's ministry – the Last Supper with his disciples. In this tender yet pivotal setting, Jesus establishes what Christians now celebrate as Communion, transforming ordinary bread and wine into powerful symbols of his sacrifice.As we explore Mark 14:22-28, we unpack the rich theological significance behind Jesus's words: "This is my body" and "This is my blood of the covenant." We examine the various interpretations Christians hold about Communion – from Catholic transubstantiation to Protestant symbolism – while connecting Jesus's statements to his other symbolic "I am" declarations throughout scripture. This careful analysis helps us appreciate the memorial aspect of Communion as we remember Christ's sacrifice.The conversation deepens as we discuss the covenant Jesus established that night, connecting his words to Jeremiah's prophecy of a new covenant and looking ahead to its future fulfillment in the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Jesus's reference to drinking wine "new in the kingdom of God" points to the Millennial Kingdom where believers will celebrate with their risen Lord.Perhaps most poignant is Jesus's prediction that all his disciples would abandon him, despite Peter's passionate insistence otherwise. Ready for His Return: Living as Christ's Bride Summary The return of Jesus is imminent—nothing else needs to happen before He comes for His church. This reality is rooted in the promise of Scripture, where Jesus will descend with a shout, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God, calling His people to Himself. This event, often called the rapture, is not the same as the second coming, but a distinct moment when Christ comes for His bride, the church. The language and imagery used in the New Testament draw heavily from the ancient Jewish wedding tradition, where the groom pays a price for his bride, leaves to prepare a place for her, and returns unexpectedly to take her to be with him. Our relationship with Jesus is a covenant, much like a marriage, sealed by His blood. We are called to be a pure and prepared bride, set apart from the world, living in the grace that enables us to walk in holiness. The process of preparation is not about earning salvation, but about living in readiness—working, serving, and cultivating intimacy with Christ. Just as the Jewish bride did not know the exact hour her groom would return, we too must be vigilant, keeping our spiritual lamps filled with oil, which represents intimacy with God. The parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25 illustrates the importance of being ready. Five were wise, keeping oil in their lamps, while five were foolish and unprepared. The oil is not knowledge or religious activity, but a deep, personal relationship with Jesus. When the bridegroom came, only those who were ready went in with him. This is a call to examine our lives: Are we living in daily intimacy with Christ, or are we distracted and unprepared? The Jewish wedding culminates in a joyful celebration, just as the rapture leads to the marriage supper of the Lamb—a seven-year celebration in heaven while tribulation unfolds on earth. After this, the church returns with Christ, presented in glory. Communion serves as a reminder of the price Jesus paid and the promise of His return. Each time we partake, we remember that we are His, and He is coming back for us. The question remains: Are we prepared for His coming? [16:56] - Intimacy with Christ: The True Oil The parable of the ten virgins teaches that the oil in our lamps represents intimacy with Jesus, not mere knowledge or religious activity. Only those who cultivate a personal, ongoing relationship with Him will be ready when He comes. Intimacy is built in the quiet, hidden places—through prayer, worship, and time in His presence. [32:29] - Communion: Remembering the Price and the Promise Every time we take communion, we remember both the price Jesus paid for us and the promise of His return. The cup is a symbol of our covenant and a call to continual preparation. It is a reminder that we belong to Him, and He is coming back to take us to Himself—so we must live in a state of readiness and devotion. [38:47]

A recent story from NYC documents two slaughtered chickens that were found on an Upper West Side median, following a recent similar case close by on Broadway and West 92nd Street. The NY Post reports that this “has activists worried they were killed in an animal sacrifice ritual.” Headless goats, chickens, and pigeons have also been found in Texas and Florida, respectively Galveston beach, a Tampa cemetery, Cape Coral, the Courtney Campbell Causeway - and other locations too.Most of these cases are tied directly or indirectly to Santería, an Afro-Caribbean religious practice that developed in Cuba during the 19th century. As a mixture of Yoruba religion from West Africa, Spiritism, and even Catholicism - like Voodoo -  it involves animal sacrifices. Contrary to popular belief or personally bias belief, the US SCOTUS ruled in Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye v. City of Hialeah (1993) that certain animal sacrifices were legal. One opinion on the case reads: “Our review confirms that the laws in question were enacted by officials who did not understand, failed to perceive, or chose to ignore the fact that their official actions violated the Nation's essential commitment to religious freedom.”It's also ironic that Catholicism, a universal religion of people who drink symbolic blood and eat symbolic flesh, is the partial basis of Santería - and Voodoo; both condemned by the largely Christian west. The Corpus Christi and Transubstantiation are based on the concept of sympathetic magic, that life itself is in the blood, and that this force belongs to God as per Deuteronomy and Leviticus. Drinking the blood bestows life, i.e., it is a medicinal remedy, though of a more spiritual variety. That is despite the Bible itself being filled with and overflowing with animal blood, from Genesis to Revelation, and the fact Christians, far more than any other group, are considered the largest consumers of pork alone, not to mention other meats. And unlike HALAL or KOSHER dietary rules, Christians have none for the slaughter of their meals. Around 100,000 cattle are slaughtered daily in the US for the luxury of meat, along with 25 million chickens and 350,000 pigs. The worst part, estimates are that approximately 1/4 of all US meat is wasted annually. What's worse, religious animal sacrifice or gluttonous animal sacrifices that go to waste? Although Christians maintain the blood and flesh rituals, many distance themselves from the idea, while the Jewish custom of Kapparot involves the slaughter of a chicken and public sins. Animal sacrifice for strictly religious purposes and in honest faith - not to mention the symbolic nature of such sacrifices as they relate to the carnal self - are one thing, but the ritualized nature of abortion and body/organ harvesting is another.In South Africa it is common for some children, especially albino ones, to be sold or kidnapped for body parts and organs. Albinos are believed to contain good fortune within their body and blood. As Daily Mail reports: “those who believe in black magic and traditional medicine claim their fair skin and eyes can bring good fortune and cure afflictions.” Be it for religious rituals, health, or profit, Planned parenthood was also doing something similar as per undercover videos and singer like Azealia Banks performed live chicken sacrifices in her closest. In the last 15 years there have been multiple stories about Chinese-made infant flesh pills being smuggled into Korea. All throughout Europe during the 16h-17th centuries, without doubt, “many Europeans, including royalty, priests and scientists, routinely ingested remedies containing human bones, blood and fat as medicine for everything from headaches to epilepsy.” And as with Countess Elizabeth Báthory, who believed the blood of young women would protect her skin, Stanford scientists have found that “old mice given infusions of blood plasma from young mice outperformed old mice who got plasma from old mice.” In the 1960s the rubella shot was manufactured with a virus grown from human fetal cells, taken from an abortion case. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements.
