From the genius who brought you Sarah Palin: Longtime Republican operative Steve Schmidt launched the Pass the Torch USA super PAC to replace Joe Biden on the ballot with anyone else. When they couldn't find anyone else, they ran businessman and Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips. Is that why so many centrist Democrats who call for an open convention, bypassing Black progressive Kamala Harris, use the rallying cry, “Pass the torch”? One thing is clear: the energy and organization used by Democratic Party elites and their megadonors to push Biden off the ballot at this late stage and bypass Kamala has never been seen before to address our nation's most pressing crises, from the climate crisis to kleptocracy. And the mainstream media won't tell you this because they're owned by conservatives working with, you guessed it, Democratic Party elites. Just take former Obama White House official Robert Gibbs, who was hired as an image-maker for David Zaslav, the anti-Biden CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery, who called for a new president and boasted about Republicans (the MAGA far-right) being welcomed on CNN. He also defended the disturbing CNN Trump town hall. So if you're wondering why CNN has become Trump propaganda, it's because of Zaslav. Given how wrong the polls were in 2022 and 2016, and the disifnormation that can pollute them, Biden/Harris have a strong chance to win this November. In this special bonus show, Gaslit Nation listeners share their questions and concerns for our nation. It includes a recap of the Oscars of Kleptocracy – the Republican National Convention. Our election wrap-up is the theme of Episode 24 - and we look at the results, the campaigns, the media coverage, and we point out THE headline that Winnipeg media has dared not utter. Hear what the result really meant about 34.00 in. And CTV gets spanked for their 'Decision Desk' faux pas and non-apology. First- Marty walked past the Glen Murray HQ windows around noon on the way to Enterprise Rent A Car at 283 Ellice, who provided an election day Spark and great pricing and service. What did he see? 7:00 Our top 5 headlines of the election campaign - Kenny is surprised at how on the nose we were right from the start. Plus, one more headline still in play because of a broken Murray promise. Then we take apart some often vapid statements of the local political science talking heads, who seriously devalued their standing in the public eye in this election. Hear the description of the Pembina Institute allegations by an independent media outlet. They were damn serious but aside from CBC (that broke the story), none of the corporate newsrooms dared spell out the scope of Glen Murray's misconduct (ie the word 'pelvis'). Spirited Kenny has an idea why the Pembina allegations stuck, even after one pillar of poli-sci said scandals from outside of Winnipeg wouldn't matter to voters. Marty talks about the Murray campaign on E-Day - robocalls galore; insider words about what went wrong; and what took their focus off of Gillingham. 27:50 Bartley Kives of CBC had a great story of the march to election day. We elaborate on the Bowman (non) factor, the rejection by voters of the union endorsements for Murray, the winning Gillingham strategy, the failed attempt of the elitists to recapture the 1990's, and the shame a whole lot of big money Conservatives should feel. 33:08 The heat map - where the votes fell around the neighborhoods. The obvious headline about the result we'd hear if this was Vancouver. A commentary by The Daily Scrum had smart and different observations about the CBC debate, some of which ties in with our coverage. They reflected on poor MSM coverage and the outsize influence of inaccurate polls and misleading headlines early in the campaign. It's tilting the playing field and works against voters but the perps aren't accountable. 43:54 Part 2 - TheJ.ca update 50:04 Let's talk about the media. Dan Lett wants to talk about voter suppression and disengagement? We talk about how the Free Press and a lot of other newsrooms should look in the mirror. Kenny has thoughts about another highbrow far-left columnist whose reason for supporting Glen Murray was- to spite the media investigating his misdeeds. With attitudes like that, the touting of "front-runner" Murray based on a garbage poll, pumping divisive narratives, entitled smarminess - trust in a lot of the Winnipeg media took a big hit. We analyze the subjects and issues we raised- especially the Caledon scandal that MSM almost all ignored. Yet it was important enough for Scott Gillingham to toss at Glen Murray in the CBC debate. 1:07:10 Hear CTV anchor Marilee Caruso's lecture that the Gillingham campaign was wrong not to concede, because the "Decision Desk" said Murray won. Kenny was watching online and has an excellent description of the on-set mayhem. Guess what? CTV never mentioned Caledon in the campaign. 1:15:09 An overview of the City Council results, and media failures. Why was the media so un-curious about ol' Glen? For TGCTS, history repeats itself. We will be back weekly, with 3 specific City Hall interviews being planned- starting with the new Mayor, Scott Gillingham.

What does it mean to be white in America? What does it mean to be Black? Is it merely the color of our skin? How does the history of how different races have been treated by the law and by fellow Americans weigh on those labels? What would it be like to straddle both worlds? In "White Lies: The Double Life of Walter F. White and America's Darkest Secret," AJ Baime explains how an African-American man who looked white infiltrated the south to investigate lynchings and write reports for the NAACP. Baime explains how Walter White exposed the horrors of lynchings in a way no one else could, while also defining a new era of culture in New York City. Baime came of age as Jim Crow took hold, and sadly died before the Civil Rights movement would achieve its greatest legislative successes.Baime also describes the emotional journey he traveled to write this book, and why he says it is time for him to take a break from non-fiction!This is AJ's second appearance on our show. White Lies: The Double Life of Walter F. White and America's Darkest Secret by A. J. Baime A riveting biography of Walter F. White, a little-known Black civil rights leader who passed for white in order to investigate racist murders, help put the NAACP on the map, and change the racial identity of America forever Walter F. White led two lives: one as a leader of the Harlem Renaissance and the NAACP in the early twentieth century; the other as a white newspaperman who covered lynching crimes in the Deep South at the blazing height of racial violence. Born mixed race and with very fair skin and straight hair, White was able to “pass” for white. He leveraged this ambiguity as a reporter, bringing to light the darkest crimes in America and helping to plant the seeds of the civil rights movement. White's risky career led him to lead a double life. He was simultaneously a second-class citizen subject to Jim Crow laws at home and a widely respected professional with full access to the white world at work. His life was fraught with internal and external conflict—much like the story of race in America. Starting out as an obscure activist, White ultimately became Black America's most prominent leader. A character study of White's life and career with all these complexities has never been rendered, until now. By the award-winning, best-selling author of The Accidental President,Dewey Defeats Truman, and The Arsenal of Democracy,White Lies uncovers the life of a civil rights leader unlike any other.

Do I dare say it? "Fake News"? It's a term forever tied to our 45th President but it's not a novel concept. There has been a growing distrust of the media that you can trace back to 1972 when you had military leaders actively accusing the venerable Walter Cronkite of biased journalism that undermined the American conflict in Vietnam. Let's be honest, it goes back even further - one of the more iconic photos of the 20th century is Harry Truman holding up the headlines of the Daily Chicago Tribune which proclaimed "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN".As long as humans are....human (?) we will have biases that leak into our every being - imagine being a talking head with a vested interest in one side of the story and being tasked with proclaiming the inherent goodness of the other side. Yes it's different for professional journalists, but therein lies a big part of the problem. "Journalists" are a dying breed. Join me and media watchdog Matt Moseley as we discuss the very real problem of a corrupt media.
Bruford - Age Of Information (1980) I guess, if I'm going to call the Bowie band of 1975-1980 the best band of the decade, this group would come close to that. With the inimitable style of Jeff Berlin on bass and the wonderful Bill Bruford on drums, this album might have been the closest Prog came to the elusive jazz/pop hybrid bred into the bone for so many of the Prog hopefuls of the era. Jan Hammer Group - Don't You Know (1977) Can - I Want More (1976) Can was a sometimes impenetrable German Prog outfit. Their music in the early part of the decade wasn't something I could say I liked, even though I tried like heck. This was a single, which kinda makes sense. All Prog was catching a terminal disease at this juncture, but no one knew it. Renaissance - Flight (1983) I messed this song up on my show, but this is not a bad record. Renaissance had some great moments in the '70s, and if you are interested, go find Scheherazade and Other Stories from 1975. Like Close to The Edge, it only has three songs, but I think that record is their apex by a mile, and I like the other albums. This was from their last "Golden Era", Time-Line album, although it had been a while since they could get a record company to pony up the do-re-mi for an orchestra. Discogs: Renaissance was originally formed in London, UK, in 1969 by ex-Yardbirds vocalist Keith Relf and drummer Jim McCarty who wanted to explore a new sound blending elements of rock, folk, and classical music. Relf assumed the role of guitarist, and they were joined by bassist Louis Cennamo, keyboardist John Hawken, and vocalist Jane Relf. This lineup recorded the first self-titled album and most of the second album, Illusion (1971). A rapid series of personnel changes followed. Guitarist and composer Michael Dunford first appeared on Illusion. Before his departure from the band Hawken recruited new vocalist Annie Haslam. By 1972, when the Renaissance recorded their third album, Prologue, none of the original members remained though McCarty still wrote music for the band. By 1973 the lineup had stabilized with Haslam, Dunford, keyboardist John Tout, bassist and vocalist Jon Camp, and drummer Terry Sullivan. This lineup produced a string of relatively successful albums over the remainder of the decade. They had one Top 10 single in the U.K., "Northern Lights", from the album A Song For All Seasons (1978). By 1980 Sullivan and Tout departed leaving Haslam, Dunford, and Camp as the stable core of the group with various other musicians coming and going through the early and mid-1980s. The group released two albums, Camera Camera (1981) and Time-Line (1983) which were not well received by either fans or critics. Renaissance went into the studio to record a further album but found themselves without a label willing to release it. Material for this album as well as discarded tracks from the sessions for the previous three releases finally saw the light of day as Songs From Renaissance Days in 1997. [Ed: Which I gobbled up the day it came out, as there was no other domestic CD of this group available at the time.] Yes - The Revealing Science of God (1973) There are moments in this song that, to me, are just amazing, transcendent, and still cause chills maybe 40 years after the first time I heard them ("Getting over overhanging trees...") like almost all of Yes' epic side-long monsters. There's a reason Prog fans like me are filled with sadness that the people who made this magic for us cannot seem to just stop recreating or trying to recreate these moments with an ever-shifting group of lesser talents. The Beatles did it right. They just stopped, resisted the potentially lucrative urge to make themselves stand there again, together, and recreate sounds from which they had long ago moved past. I like this. There's a real fire that people might have forgotten these very young men possessed. King Crimson - Thela Hun Jinjeet (1981) So this might be #3. Tony Levin played on some later Yes albums, as well as Peter Gabriel (he plays the Chapman Stick, a strapped upright instrument with both tenor and bass strings). He also played with Paul Simon and hundreds of others. Robert Fripp played with David Bowie on his Berlin Trilogy, and Bill Bruford was amazing in Yes, his own band, Bruford, and...Genesis during a tour! Bowie and...Adrian Belew!! Who is here after stints with Talking Heads, Zappa, Tom Tom Club....it goes on and on, but I really like anything Bill Bruford played on. Bruford - Gothic 17 (1980) I've played stuff from Bruford's first record with Annette Peacock. This is in that funky, other-worldly combination of jazz and pop. I love Jeff Berlin's voice. I wish they had dome more records together. Go find "Joe Frazier" off this album. Whoo boy. Gentle Giant - Interview (1976) Genesis - One For The Vine (1977) Genesis at their peak. It's hard to believe it now, but this was composed solely by Tony Banks. The scope and drama, pathos, and virtuosity amaze me especially when one considers that he (and they) never created anything this beautiful again. Who was the best keyboard player in Prog? I think about it and Kerry Minnear comes to mind, as he really was the creative force in Gentle Giant. But neither he, Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, or any of the others, as good as they were, authored something as wonderful as this. Rush - Jacob's Ladder (1980) I don't care what you say. This album is peak Rush. After years of album/tour/album/tour, "The Spirit of Radio" captured their amazing musicianship, their cool humor, and the fact that you could be groovy in 7/8. I think of this record as the end of the beginning, but not in a good way. I played this in a band once. We were terrible. I had a tiny Casio keyboard (it was all we could afford) and I couldn't play the last bit on bass with anything resembling speed. Our drummer was great. Discogs: Rush's seventh studio album. The cover depicted the famous incorrect headline "Dewey Defeats Truman" on a newspaper in the bottom left corner. However, the Chicago Tribune (the paper that originally published the error) pressured the band to remove the headline. Some versions appear altered with either "Dewei Defeats Truman" or a blanked section. The billboards in the distance (mid-right) originally read "Coca-Cola." However, the cola company objected to the use of their logo and the cover was changed to display the band members names in a similar typestyle to the original logo. Trivia: The woman on the cover of this album is model Paula Turnbull. Contrary to rumor, the guy waving in the background on the cover is not one of the members of Rush, it's actually Hugh Syme, the art director of the album. UK - In The Dead of Night/By The Light Of Day/Presto Vivace and Reprise (1978) One of the first Prog supergroups, members of other big groups smooshed together. In this case, John Wetton of King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, Mogul Thrash, etc., Bill Bruford, the amazing Allan Holdsworth (Soft Machine, Gong) , and Eddie Jobson (Zappa, etc.) make a great album. Then Bill leaves, and Terry Bozzio (Zappa) records another record and a live album, and then...Asia. Joe Simon - Before The Night Is Over (1977) I don't consider The Moody Blues or Pink Floyd prog.

It was the election that did not decide the presidency, and the biggest media debacle since “Dewey Defeats Truman.” The 2000 campaign between presidential candidates George W. Bush and Al Gore was shaping up as a cliffhanger. Pundits predicted that its outcome would hinge on results from a few key states - Ohio, Michigan, and most of all, Florida. On election night, television news organizations staged a collective drag race on the crowded highway of democracy, recklessly endangering the electoral process, the political life of the country, and their own credibility.Broadcast audio licensed from CNN/WarnerMedia, CBS News, NBC NewsContributors:Tim Russert, Washington Bureau Chief and Senior Vice President at NBC News (Garner Audio Archive) David Bernknopf, Former CNN Vice President, News Planning, 1980 – 2001Marcy McGinnis, Former Senior Vice President, Special Events News Coverage, CBS NewsBill Schneider, CNN senior political analystBeth O'Connell, former Executive Producer, NBC News Special EventsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
We’ve all seen the picture, a smiling Harry Truman holding up the Chicago Daily Tribune’s front page with the headline “Dewey Defeats Truman”. But as with most headlines, there’s a lot of story behind the big bold print. At the end of the day, it all really came down to overconfidence versus confidence, one side relishing in a supposedly insurmountable lead, the other – kickstarting a whistle-stop tour for the ages. One of the greatest upsets in Presidential Election history, how Harry Truman shocked the world, is on this episode of American POTUS.
We’ve all seen that famous photograph of Harry Truman holding up the newspaper declaring his defeat. Nowadays people have very little idea of who this “Dewey” guy even was. So what made it seem so obvious that he would win? Joe gives us the lowdown on this famous historical photo and the “obvious outcome” that … 133 – Fake News: Dewey Defeats Truman!Read More »
Welcome to Finance and Fury, the Say What Wednesday edition. This episode is all about answering the question – “What is going on with the US election?” You might think that there is a simple answer – that Biden is the president elect – hard to think he isn’t when we have the media calling him that so it must be true, right? Well he isn’t - to be clear – Biden has won nothing at this stage - whilst he has been called president elect by the MSM – and the associated press has called the election for Biden – this is rather deceitful – it isn’t up to them to call At this stage - unless a candidate concedes - the election remains in play until December 14th when states cast their electoral college votes and each secretary of state certifies that the vote is valid – all of this could end up at the Supreme court to decide – if this happens Trump has a decent chance of winning but until they weigh in – there should have been no official declaration of the election results – Again – whilst the media has called it – it is not up to them – but the media is trying to get it into people’s mind that biden is the president elect – even though he isn’t Biden even gave a press conference in front of a sign of the Office of the President elect – this office doesn’t exist – his PR team must have printed it out – So to recap - unless Trump concedes between now and mid-December – which isn’t likely - Biden hasn’t won anything, no matter what the media tells you So with this in mind – lets take a step back and assess what has occurred with this election and how it may play out from here – based around the legal standings and not just the media’s spin Because based around the presidents that exists due to previous dodgy elections – and there have been many – regardless of what you might be told - it is highly possible that Trump will end up winning the 2020 Presidential election At the moment - the MSM is trying to get people to ignore the voting irregularities not only with this election but past elections in the US - There have been few times in the past where an election has swung in the opposite direction from where the media has officiated – election of Truman was one – in 1948 Chicago Tribune ran a headline that Dewey Defeats Truman – which turned out to be not the case once the election was decided – as well as the 2000 election between Bush and Gore – where votes in Florida were thrown out due to them not meeting the legal requirements – which flipped the state and Bush turned out to win – as well as many cases in the US gilded age So what is going on with the 2020 election – First it is important to know how the US election system works – It is based on the Electoral College – not a popular vote – The Electoral College is the group of presidential electors required by the Constitution to form every four years for the sole purpose of electing the president Each state appoints electors according to its legislature, equal in number to its congressional delegation – where each state has a different number of electoral votes – Georgia has 16 votes, PA has 20, Texas has 38, CA has 55 – in total there are 538 electors and to get an absolute majority - 270 or more electoral votes are needed Why does this matter? Well – Biden is 20 votes above the majority – but the results of 6 states are currently in question - Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona – where the margins are very close and some irregularities have occurred – this is 79 votes in total – What are the claims – that voter fraud occurred – but this doesn’t exist – but election fraud does – every election likely has some element of fraud to it or at the very least – glitch related The Heritage foundation has 1,298 proven cases of election fraud – with 1,121 individuals being criminally convicted, with the rest being convicted in civil court – There may have been fraud that occurred this election – but at the very least there are irregularities – despite what the media is saying – many have been proven Lets go back – on the night of the election – Trump was ahead by what appeared to be an insurmountable amount in Michigan and Pennsylvania – 8 points or hundreds of thousands of votes, was up by more than 600k votes in PA in a state with 6m total votes with 85% of the votes counted – he also had a massive position across Georgia, Wisconsin – again – what would be considered enough to be called – as many other states with that margin had been called for Biden – like WA, NY, CA ,etc. Then overnight – when the poll counting was meant to be closed – the gaps all of a sudden disappeared and by the end of the next day of counting – these states had flipped – This alone is a possibility – mail voting results did favour Biden – but in the states with the strictest vote counting requirements – especially when it comes to mail in ballots – like Florida – which had Biden slightly wining – ended up being off by 4 points of 400k votes So this turn in the results did raise some eyebrows - Election integrity is important – we will go through a summary of the claims soon – but I would think that if an election’s results are in question then this should be taken seriously – There are recounts and audits in states that account for 79 votes - to determine if votes that were received after the election deadline were counted as well as verify the results – underway in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona - Any one of those states could see Biden end up losing – if he loses even 10,000 votes in some of these states due to some technicality – like the ballots arriving after the deadline - Trump could be declared the winner The BBC did a good article about “Vote Rigging: How to spot the tell-tale signs” back in 2016 – These include- there are too many votes, you have a high turnout in specific areas, large numbers of invalid votes, results that don’t match, delays in announcing results – keep these in mind as we go through the irregularities that exist - As there are many irregulates – too many to run through in detail but I will give the overview – Many oddities – hundreds of signed affidavits across these states – republican poll watchers were turned away from viewing the electoral process – where each side and an independent is allowed to view the counting of ballots – however they were turned away once the next day counting of votes started across the country In Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia, poll workers were caught on videoexpelling poll watchers despite knowledge of a court order preventing them from doing so – this is part of the lawsuit filed – because this raises the obvious question — why don’t they want anyone watching them? They boarded up the windows from letting anyone see in – and even after the courts then ruled that this was illegal – they did let the poll watchers back in – but they were only allowed 6 feet from the poll tables positions – so they moved the voting back 10 feet – it does sound suspicious – There were also a number of dead people apparently voting – similar to what happened in the Nixon election – these were enough to change anything – but a lot of these dead people passed away weeks if not years before they would have received their ballot Dominion voting system – either through software glitches or through human interference - 6,000 votes were flipped from Trump to Biden in one county in Michigan – this is true and has been verified Under state laws – Michigan and the other states that flipped from Trump to Biden don’t have any regulations that forces individuals to look at the computer tabulations compared to the paper ballots that they came from for verification purposes – Now – 6,000 votes might not sound like a lot – and you are right – when compared to the popular vote – but this repeated in two or three counties could flip one state – adding 10-20 votes to one candidate – that is where there are razor thin margins in some of these states Also - in one county in Wisconsin - 19,500 votes were switched from Trump to Biden in another so-called glitch -Then there is another similar “glitch” in Georgiathat saw an unspecified number of votes go to Biden that were once again meant for Trump Can you see the pattern here? These could have all been mistakes or technical difficulties – however every glitch seems to be going towards the Biden camp – because as it stands – I haven’t been able to find one report of a glitch going in the opposite direction Votes counted and turnouts – This election saw the highest number of votes in US history – Biden got more votes than Obama – this is a little surprising – but it can be explained by the hate for Donald Trump when compared to the support for Biden – as that was hard to see anywhere However – there are some irregularities between historical turn outs in some certain swing states that ended up turning Biden - One example of this is 90% turnout in the State of Wisconsin – which would not only be the highest level of turnout in American history In comparison – this was close to the 92% average that we get in Australia where voting is mandatory The interesting thing is that voter turnout has historically been 60% in this state Wisconsin isn’t alone - Compare this turnout to Cleveland in Ohio, a culturally comparable city but with much stricter rules in counting votes – this had a 51% This is an important city to draw a contrast with Milwaukee in Wisconsin – which saw an 84% voter turnout – because both are a Democratic stronghold, have similar demographics – the only major differences are the legislation and enforcement for counting votes – Ohio has historically been the king maker of the US – no president has won the election without Ohio in 14 elections, dating back to 1960 – where there was again a lot of irregularities between Nixon and JFK – however biden bucked this trend in 2020 Because when you look at other swing states – like Ohio or Florida that are contested were in line with their historical voter turn outs around 45% and 77% respectively (2% more than in 2016, or 2008) - But not 30% more than the historical average in turnout that was seen in the states that flipped to Biden over the days following the election – which does seems statistically improbable In addition - A broad study conducted by Judicial Watchfound that 353 counties across 29 states had turnout exceeding 100 percent of registered voters. Eight of these had turnout exceeding 100 percent across the entire state: Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont – all blue – this can be explained by people moving and not updating their addresses – however it is still a large gap to make up This study was limited to 37 states publishing their voter registration data. This means that, of the 37 states that Judicial Watch had access to, 78 percent of them had turnout exceeding 100 percent. Discrepancies between votes for the senate, house and the president – Normally about the same – however – there is some suspicion based around the number of comparative Biden-only ballots – Unlike here – in the US they vote for all levels of Government in the election – house, senate and the president In this election - Tens or hundreds of thousands of voters marked their ballots onlyfor Joe Biden – not it is not unusual for people to take an outsized interest in the Presidential election – this occurs in most elections across all states – where the president gets more votes than say a senate cantate – however – what is unusual is the magnitude and in which states this applied - 450,000 people only voted for Biden with no other votes to other party members in a handful of swing states Let’s look at Georgia - In Georgia, there was only a difference of 818 votes between Trump and down ticket Senate races – historically in line with the margins – however – Biden received over 95,000 more votes than the Dems Senate candidate on the ballot deep red states like Wyoming did not see a massive number of Biden-only ballots - were a mere 725 more votes for Biden than the Democratic Senate candidate in the state In total – there are five states with very abnormal levels of Biden-only voting - Pennsylvania at 98,000, Georgia with 95,000, Arizona with 43,000, Michigan with 115,000 and Wisconsin 63,000 Where this gets even more interesting is when comparing this to the Senate and House results - It just seems weird that republicans won seats off the Dems in the house and likely kept a majority in the senate – but yet lost the presidency Republicans won 28 out of 29 competitive House races and flipped three state legislatures, but were somehow unable to win the presidency – To put this into context – apparently Joe Biden receive more votes than Barack Obama - who had a clean sweep of both house and senate in 2008 – but Biden was unable to flip a single state legislature and the Dems lost seats in the house and failed to get the predicted majority in the Senate Late Mail in ballots being counted (technically illegally against state laws) – after the deadline of 8pm on November 3rd Claims and witnesses and as well videos of late mail in being received – whistle blowers from USPS saying they were order to take all ballot in – even if they were received the next day – this goes against what is allowed This is all here say – so to be taken with a grain of salt – but it could confirm the vote count irregularities However - the US Supreme Court’s Justice Alito passed an order that the State of Pennsylvania to segregate any ballots that arrived after 8PM on election night – of which there were 10s of thousands – so this could easily flip the state back to Trump – as it did with Bush in 2000 – if it does – Biden has a bare minimum of 270 – so if one more state flips back – then Trump wins Lets go back to the BBC article about the tell tale signs of a rigged election - there are too many votes (check), you have a high turnout in specific areas (check), large numbers of invalid votes (based on the computer glitches), results that don’t match (check – based around the senate, house and legislative results), delays in announcing results (check – didn’t call the states trump was ahead in for days) – so based around the BBC in 2016 – there are some signs that the election was rigged – but I guess this only relates to African nations – as now they turn a blind eye I bet that you probably haven’t head of any of this – there has been some massive suppression of claims of election fraud – Go back to 2016 – claims were made openly that Trump stole the election – he was a Russian asset – and that the Russians were somehow voting in the election – this was fine to report on at length But this time around – even though there are some irregularities which should be questioned – be it just computer glitches – or electoral fraud – this time around you cannot question it – if you do you are a conspiracy theorist and you get blocked on Twitter – even though Trump being a Putin puppet was a massive conspiracy the media perpetuated on the people of the world for over 3 years – where a lot of people still believe this In summary - Trumps still has a chance to win – It is a possibility – might be small now – but the media is setting up the narrative – that if he wins it will be a coup Regardless – things are going to get messy – Either Biden wins – or trump wins – but either way 50% of the US population won’t accept the results – This is bad – as it is the breaking of the country further – it was already divided – people may blame trump for this – but who gives him the image that he has? He doesn’t do a great job himself – but remember – he isn’t a life long politician – he has been a businessman in the services industry his whole life – from hotels, apartments, golf courses, restaurants – all about providing a service and selling these services – he is a braggart – and speaks in platitudes – which is where his lies come from But since when did personality matter for the outcome of the people? As long as a leader creates a good outcome – does it matter he hits twitter at 2am spouting off some misspelt tweets – the MSM would make you believe it does He may be hated as a person – and this is understandable - but he has provided a good result for the American people – whilst at the same time being the focus point of the MSM and powerful tech monopolies to divide the population through pointing out his personality flaws But back to the election - I personally think this result may come down to the Supreme Court’s justices – which are currently 6-3 Republican to Democrat - Roberts may absolve herself – but the conservatives still hold the 5-4 majority – especially with how Joe Biden stood against Clarence Thomas – the second African American to ever be nominated to the court the ultimate arbiter in court rulings on elections favours Trump – doesn’t mean he is certainly going to win – but provided he doesn’t concede - the odds do favour him for winning a second term – will find out come December 14thwhen states cast their electoral college votes and the supreme court makes a ruling I hope this helped to clarify things. Our fifth episode in our series on the presidency features A.J. Baime and his book, "Dewey Defeats Truman: The 1948 Election and the Battle for America's Soul." Baime explains how President Truman revived his political fortunes with the most aggressive campaign in American history. He embarks on a "Whistlestop Tour" pledging to visit every county in the country. The "common man" president insists that victory is inevitable, even though the newspaper pundits considered him a goner. Baime describes Truman's personal strength in willing himself back into contention, as he argues in favor of Civil Rights, the recognition of Israel, and pledges to fight for everyday people. Especially in an era where COVID has precluded traditional campaigning, Truman's inspirational story is a reminder that politics is about people.AJ Baime is available on social media @facebook/AJBaimeAxelbank Reports History and Today is available on Twitter and Instagram @axelbankhistoryHere is a schedule of release dates for episodes as part of our series on the presidency:***September 29th: James Poniewozik - "Audience of One: Donald Trump, Television and the Fracturing of America"***September 29th: Steven Levingston - "Barack and Joe: The Making of an Extraordinary Partnership"***October 6th: Stephen Knott - "The Lost Soul of the American Presidency: The Decline into Demagoguery and the Prospects for Renewal"***October 13th: Lindsay Chervinsky - "The Cabinet: George Washington and the Creation of an American Institution"***October 20th: A.J. In 1948, Harry S Truman looked like a sure loser. He’d inherited the presidency soon after becoming Roosevelt’s vice president, and the media quickly concluded he was in over his head. So how did this quote “little man from Missouri” pull off the political upset of the century? Author A.J. Baime talks about the election in his book, “Dewey Defeats Truman.”
Scott and Matt join the Professor to discuss Truman's political stunner in 1948 that left the press and Washington's elite scratching their heads as to how they could have missed this one so bad.
Author A.J. Baime joins host Sarah Fenske to discuss his new book, "Dewey Defeats Truman: The 1948 Election and the Battle for America’s Soul." The book explores how Truman shocked the media, the political polling experts and his opponents by winning election to the seat he'd inherited three years before with the death of Franklin Roosevelt.
SPEAKERS A.J. Baime Author, Dewey Defeats Truman: The 1948 Election and the Battle for America's Soul In response to the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, this program took place and was recorded live via video conference, for an online audience only, and was live-streamed from The Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco on July 16th, 2020.
Join us for a virtual conversation with best-selling author, A. J. Baime, to discuss his latest book, the thrilling story of the 1948 presidential election, during which Truman mounted a remarkable comeback and staked a claim for a new course for America. On the eve of the 1948 election, America was a fractured country. Racism was rampant, foreign relations were fraught, and political parties were more divided than ever. Americans were certain that President Truman's political career was over, his own staff did not believe he could win, nor did his wife Bess. But win he did. Baime sheds light on one of the most action-packed six months in American history, as Truman not only triumphs, but also oversees watershed events: the Marshall Plan, the creation of Israel, the origins of the Cold War, and the first desegregation of the military. Not only did Truman win, he succeeded in guiding his country forward at a critical time with high stakes and haunting parallels to current events. On the eve of the 1948 election, America was a fractured country. Racism was rampant, foreign relations were fraught, and political parties were more divided than ever. Americans were certain that President Harry S. Truman’s political career was over. “The ballots haven’t been counted,” noted political columnist Fred Othman, “but there seems to be no further need for holding up an affectional farewell to Harry Truman.” Truman’s own staff did not believe he could win. Nor did his wife, Bess. The only man in the world confident that Truman would win was Mr. Truman himself. And win he did.How did he do it? A confluence of factors that resemble those of today. According to A.J. Baime, today's guest and author of Dewey Defeats Truman, 1948 was a fight for the soul of a nation. We discuss some of most action-packed six months in American history, as Truman not only triumphs, but oversees watershed events—the passing of the Marshall plan, the acknowledgment of Israel as a new state, the careful attention to the origins of the Cold War, and the first desegregation of the military. Not only did Truman win the election, but he also succeeded in guiding his country forward at a critical time with high stakes and haunting parallels to the modern day.

Finale: The Reagan Years (Pantheon Books)From the author of the acclaimed novel Watergate, comes a galvanizing new novel about the tumultuous administration of the most consequential and enigmatic president of modern times. Finale takes readers to the political gridiron of Washington in 1986; the wealthiest enclaves of southern California; and the volcanic landscape of Iceland, where the president engages in two almost apocalyptic days of negotiation with Mikhail Gorbachev. Along with Soviet dissidents, illegal arms traders, and antinuclear activists, the novel's memorable characters include Margaret Thatcher, Jimmy Carter, Pamela Harriman, John W. Hinckley, and even Bette Davis, with whom the president long ago appeared on screen. Several figures including a humbled, crafty Richard Nixon; the young, brilliantly acerbic Christopher Hitchens; and an anxious, astrology-dependent Nancy Reagan become the eyes through which readers see the last convulsions of the Cold War, the AIDS epidemic, a clash of ideologies, and a political revolution. At the center of it all but forever out of reach is Reagan himself, whose genial remoteness confounds his subordinates, his children, and the citizens who elected him.Thomas Mallon is the author of nine novels, including Henry and Clara, Dewey Defeats Truman, Fellow Travelers, andWatergate. He is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review, and The Atlantic, and he was the recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Vursell prize for exceptional prose style. Well, the US election has come and gone, and I for one will miss it. I won't miss the partisan attack ads, I won't miss the superPAC ads, but, I will miss reading fiverthirtyeight.com every day. In episode 31 we tackle the US election, the future of US elections and the unwillingness of some (we're looking at you pundits, and you FOX news) to accept reality. We don't mean on political opinions. We mean you know, like how polls can be accurate and Nate Silver can figure out results, or say climate change, or evolution, well, you get the idea. We bring in some history of course (Dewey Defeats Truman!) as well as our usual dash of science fiction. We hope you enjoy episode 31
